(To my normal followers) don't worry I won't make a portal to blood hell, I basically don't care about it at all (to my horny weirdo followers) we gotta make that portal NOW

Progress on APOCRYPHA Burnbook!
I've been implementing some really cool stuff in the last week, including my first CG! Angelica (left) and Francine (right) are the main characters, and together they're going to investigate some weird paranormal activities occurring at their boarding school!
It's been fun working on sprites and how they interact with dialogue. Finding a good mix between text and communication through imagery is a hard one โ I'm sure every VN writer has had to find their own balance for themselves.
Anyways hope this is a fun preview of things to come!

Been meaning to post about movies I've watched recently and like
The substance (2024) is like, good? As far as mainstream horror is concerned it's quite coherent and different from usual offerings.
Some of it is very "babies first misogyny (upper class)(also tech startups are ontologically evil)" but connects age and the value of women in a misogynist society in important ways. I've been trying more horror stuff recently and as far as grossout materiel, the prosthetics weren't that intense. Far more horrific and worthy of observation is the film's focus on misogyny both internal and otherwise
There's a part of me that really wishes it became a slasher film at the end but I think it adds to the poignancy of it all that the audience gets coated in blood after calling for Elisabeth's death. Very Carrie esque, but for some reason the next thing that comes to mind is our GOAT Benjamin Lay, who as we all knew took to the yearly Philadelphia Meeting of Quakers in 1738 and splattered attendees with imitation blood to protest for abolition. The blood of misogyny is on your hands, etc
My only other thought is that I'm bothered that the movie only ever focuses in on food as a negative, either in the mouth of the sleazy producer or as a gluttonous apartment-ruining binge for Elisabeth. I know it's part grossout, part depicting her crashing out, but it feels weird to point out how gross food can be in a movie about age regressing bc you want to be svelte for the camera again
Anyway I give it a solid 7
#the substance#movie review#film review#society be normal to women challenge level: impossible#Benjamin Lay somehow
