for context, mikazuki is injured to the point that he doesn't even have his physical form so he's just sword (literal) and manba (or ur starter sword) is wielding him bc he's a tenka goken and mr touken ranbu himself

for mikazuki, it's incredible to see how much manba has changed while for him he doesn't really think he could change due to how much he's seen but for manba he's basically telling mikazuki that no matter what happens or how mikazuki changes and whatever he's seen or knows, he'll still protect that because that's apart of mikazuki's own story.

just in turn on how much mikazuki has watched manba, manba has also watched him back in return

KIWAME MANBA

manba asks to go on kiwame because he wants to get stronger; just in the beginning a way for him to further distinguish himself from Chougi. Wanting to be seen as his own person and not as a different person that he's made after but isn't at all. So he goes to places where the stories of the Yamanbagiri blade slaying the Mountain Witch are told and instead finds that they are different from what he remembers that he has believed that there is no way that he would've slain the mountain witch and is not a spiritual sword at all.

then his 2nd letter elaborates that where he went, what's being told is instead the other way around and it spins his own entire world and understanding of everything around, on him feeling like in actuality, he may have overwritten Chougi's original existence and applied the Yamanba legend to the both of them

though ultimately, he spends longer time by his 3rd letter and finds that people have told multiple versions of their story where there are some versions where it's him that slayed the Yamanba, or stories where it was Chougi that did. He realizes the ambiguity of them all and comes to the conclusion that he shouldn't worry about being a replica or whoever slayed the yamanba and to care about protecting the present and the citadel...

not base game, but worth to note that Musou Manba encounters a man that wielded him and was very proud to have him and tells Manba to not speak down to the masterpiece of Kunihiro that he wields

citadel lines after kiwame... hes more self assured and confident... :) and states with confidence that he's a masterpiece and his resolve to prove himself even without spiritual powers is even stronger....!!

still ratlling him and mikazuki just because there's still some form of "its okay if we sacrifice ourselves or if something happens to us as long as we can protect the citadel/history" always

Manba is just so filled with love and care for the citadel and the care that others (the citadel, saniwa, his brothers, etc) shows for him and how he cares for them in turn is just so very clear... Love Manba-chan so so much and Yamanbagiri Kunihiro.. you are a masterpiece

very much adore how despite pre-kiwame manba having a very low self esteem and general despondant personality to everyone else; the only other toudan that he isn't like that and talks to w care is yamabushi (and horikawa in their sparring interaction)

vs his recols w sohayanotsurugi, who is also a copy (him to a tenka goken; oodenta!!) who doesn't let the fact that he's a copy affect him as much like manba's and instead carries a "well, that's fine!" and gets along nicely w oodenta too, and it is sweet how he gives manba something to think about on how he can make his own story and that theme continues onto his interactions w mikazuki during the great invasion and as a theme and motivator for him during kiwame

and then there's his recol w nansen which is like. them both mutually going "whats with this guy......" and also showing manba and how he doesn't even want people seeing his face nor being called beautiful just bc he feels as though people would be calling him beautiful due to him looking similar to chougi rather than him, and even if that isn't the case, he'd probably wonder why him just because he feels as though he's a copy even if he does have pride on being kunihiro's masterpiece but also doesn't know what people would expect of him specifically

but even pre-kiwame there is still some confidence, though also it's clear on how much he doesn't really value his own self-being and even embraces having scars or being injured because if he was chipped or imperfect in any way, then that'd be a distinction between him and chougi (and would be why he keeps his cloth tattered and dirty)

a massive distinction to me between manba and chougi is their recol lines though, manba is fine with doing chores like horsekeeping and tending to the fields while chougi complains about it... manba also shows a deal of care when it comes to other swords even if he doesn't want or can really deal w such affection or care being given back to him because he doesn't feel like he himself deserves it

ubu manba w chougis recol..... manba truly didn't intend to do any of that since at least for him he's just doing (what he believes) to be the few things that he would be able to do (he's simply caring and despite being among the more reclusive and quiet swords, he is still one of the ones that tends to look out for others the most even if he's not outward about it, he does it in ways that he wouldn't be noticed or more of a quiet "I care, but please don't perceive me either bc I'm a copy) and grpping my fist. even when he's confronted or talked to, he's not the type to lie either.. hes simply very honest and straightforward even if hes shy ab it

though even without kiwame, through the anniversary lines, even ubu manba gaint some confidence about what he himself can do and that he has a clear appreciation about what having a human body and seeing things like fireworks and wishing well for the saniwa :)

GREAT INVASION

the lines manba says in ubu and kiwame are kinda similar but also there's a clear confidence w how kiwame manba talks to mikazuki (hes more self assured) and also does admit at kiwame that he does tend to get easily bothered and affected by mikazuki's words even until now.

*mikazuki says this to all the starter swords regardless, so it's not too much of a manba thing and just as a more starter toudan is clearly the most trusted and relied on toudan in general to protect the saniwa and citadel.

at this point, manba finds a resolve so his lines are more or less the same during ubu and kiwame, i'm rather certain the voiced dialogue would be voiced slightly differently though.

great invasion for every starter in general makes me go oouuuuu but manbas.... my story isn't complete in a citadel without you (mikazuki)

ofc this one also does show a glimpse to how mikazuki himself also doesn't feel too much about himself and his own regards of safety and how he's fine to martyr himself to protect history (and the saniwa) and just in his own disconnect of being a very old sword, he's seen a lot of history and seen the humans that wielded him and around him make the same very human mistakes, which this is both a factor to his own carefree but also rlly roundabout personality and attitude

also kiwame manba does specify time spent with mikazuki, which I like to also think sometimes mikazuki would lose track of time and just to show how much time they've spent with each other and supposedly how much both of them would treasure that and how manba simply considers that his own story is not complete without mikazuki.... he isn't here to save mikazuki, but hes here to protect the honmaru *with him in it

anyways, i think its interesting how both of them are literal opposites personality and worldview wise. But also very similar. they both care a lot . Yesod still cares so so much. Rolands been through a lot. I assume w the loss of his wife and friends? i assume there's friends. plus living in the city for a long period of his life while the librarians all did grow up in the city (most of them did anyways) at this point i wouldn't be surprised if their more accustomed to time in lobotomy corp and the outskirts.

I think Roland and Hod's interactions are very sweet.. and Hod saying Angela seemed most comfortable with Roland.. their besties :)

Though to be fair Roland is the only one that doesn't react to Angela with disdain or "shes a machine"

Hod being more sympathetic? to others and saying that even with Roland's motto she can't agree with it because even after all that it's still complicated but she can't bring herself to truly hate Angela .. She probably can get what she did since she also betrayed the Wing before. Guilt or what-not

Hod's called Kind and she worries about being a good person due to her past of snitching to the Head and getting her old colleagues killed
