HELLBENT x EP3
1.King  2.Unspoken 3.Harambe 4.Groundhog’s Day hellbent’s third ep from late last year is a thrashy headbanging ripper. bone up on this one now cuz these guys have a new release coming up this week with a release show in toronto at smiling buddha. in just 4 tracks, this ep covers a pretty wide range of grooves as these dudes flip their sound around from gnarly thrashing to doomy moshing to grungy riffing but always keep it mean with full dgaf vibes. so if you like to rip, thrash, mosh, or bang ur head til ur dead, this band could def get you on your way to any or all of those truly righteous objectives.   favourite track: king

DIE HEXE x COVEN
1.Tough Love 2.Black Crown 3.Unrest 4.Distress 5.Buried 6.Coven  7.Comanche
die hexe just put out their new ep “coven” in february 2017 and, for me, its the hypest release in the toronto hardcore scene so far this year. die hexe is a band with a specific vision and that’s probably the first thing you notice when you see or hear them (also tied for first-thing-you-notice-about-die-hexe: music is good, musicianship level is high, nice hair). the whole record plays like it’s actually just one long track with songs being bridged seamlessly by ominous interludes. die hexe isn’t your conventional mosh and groove hardcore band. die hexe is all artistic and brooding (that you can also mosh and groove to). die hexe is dark and intense. listening to die hexe makes me feel worried and uneasy like these guys live in a bleak and cruel world and i hope they’re ok. it’s really very good. so if you like intense vibes of desperation and appreciating fine artistic expression, adjust to mood lighting and put on die hexe. (or if you just wanna rip a couple cool tunes, check them in whatever way you like to enjoy music. all methods are appropriate)
favourite track: whole thing (sorry)

MOURN x WAGING VVAR
1.Soul Seeker 2.Death Sentence 3.Narcissist 4.Null 5.Waging VVar
mourn’s “waging vvar” crushes from start to finish with mean, sneering, pulverizing riffs determined to put a frown on your face, so prepare to be pissed. this ep has been lurking around since way back in march 2016 and if this is the first you’re hearing of it, prepare to be double pissed: you could have been banging these chunky tunes for the last year+.
mourn reminds me of when i really liked “unbroken” by a perfect murder in 2005 but slower and heavier and better and now. so if you like an old band that went bad and want to replace them with a new band that is good, or if you just like slow sludgy sledgehammer jams, get on mourn.

COLD SHOULDER x T.O.H.C
1. Days Misspent 2. Mob Mentality 3. Guilt 4. Devotion
most suitable inaugural TOHC post is a post about a toronto hardcore band whose ep is titled “T.O.H.C”; cold shoulder.
cold shoulder put this ep out back in october 2016 and it’s very solid. it’s cold shoulder’s first and only release so far but it plays with the kind of effortless fully-formed tightness that sounds more like a band that has been around for tiiime. like a veteran band that can just crunch out top notch tunes easy breezy because they’re cruisin along in their established formula. solid.
the 4 songs on this ep are all over 3 minutes long but cold shoulder gets to the point quick and keeps it hype with punk beatz, swapping vocalists/backups and mosh riffs that hit hard. so if you like groovin to a moshy groove and shouting along to catchy vocals over quick-tempo’d hypeness, you prob wanna get this one onto your thing that you play music on.
