Downfall of Númenor, and Flight of the Faithful

Elendil, Isildur & Anárion fleeing Númenor. Watercolor I made entirely in raw sienna, in series of darkening washes.

'I had to study you first, and make sure of you. The Enemy has set traps for me before now. As soon as I had made up my mind, I was ready to tell you whatever you asked. But I must admit,' he added with a queer laugh, 'that I hoped you would take to me for my own sake. A hunted man sometimes wearies of distrust and longs for friendship. But there, I believe my looks are against me.'

Just got a new knight! I sure hope his unwavering loyalty, mindless devotion, and tendency to kneel before me to kiss the palm of my hand before he commits atrocities in my name doesn't awaken anything in me.

even though my url may suggest otherwise, my hottest faramir take is that i actually really love the changes made to his character for the films

goddd the way the metal armour is a cage that forcibly replaces the hood he can hide under. the way he’s trapped playing mind games with the person closest to him because they can’t be honest with each other until they’re both burning alive. the way he’s always forced back to minas tirith, a dead white corpse-city that doesn’t have any trees, the site of his neglect and trauma. the way aragorn takes that all away and lets him go live in ithilien instead.

compelling reasons in favour of the blond boromir agenda:
1. sets him apart from denethor and faramir and emphasises the similarities between them. a physical symbol of the way that he is strikingly different in nature from both of them, and how in comparison he is less like the men of númenor than they are
2. representative of how he seems ‘more like the swift sons of eorl than the grave men of gondor’. also amusing to think of the rohirrim using this to claim him as basically one of their own warriors
3. makes him physically exceptional in his own primarily dark-haired culture. you know he’d be turning heads all his life
