The Shauna Travis grief tether is so intense and interesting, I really hope it’s further explored in Season 4.

I mean this picture alone is them watching pieces of their loved ones burn on the same funeral pyre. Their grief is uniquely mirrored in that they both lose two people that meant everything to them (Travis loses his dad and brother, Shauna loses her best friend and her son) and they both feel at fault for these deaths. It’s a kind of loss and guilt so specific and isolating that only the two of them can truly understand it. Yet, their ways of coping are vastly different: Shauna channels her pain into anger and confrontation, while Travis retreats into withdrawal and numbing. On paper, they’re the most obvious choice to lean on each other since they have experienced the same kind of pain, yet their opposing ways of coping keep them apart.

Travis’s line about feeling like he can’t show his grief because Shauna’s outweighs his is so meaningful. And I can’t stop thinking about how, in the original script, Shauna breaks down crying and vomits on the floor the moment she learns about Travis’s death. There’s a depth to this dynamic that hasn’t reached its full potential yet.

I love that Nat and Van having an unspoken bond and being childhood friends is basically made up by the fandom and yet we all talk about it like it’s 100% canon
