WHIPLASH IN CHILDREN: RECOGNIZING AND TREATING INJURIES IN YOUNGER INDIVIDUALS
Accidents and injuries are unfortunately not uncommon in childhood, with falls, collisions, or car accidents frequently leading to various types of harm. One such injury that is often overlooked, especially in younger individuals, is whiplash. Whiplash is a neck injury resulting from forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck, akin to the cracking of a whip. Despite the fact that itâs frequently associated with vehicle accidents, it can result from a variety of other situations, such as sports incidents, physical abuse, or even amusement park rides.
In children, the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of whiplash can be slightly different than in adults due to their unique anatomy and physiology. This blog post will walk you through the process of recognizing whiplash in children, understanding the potential complications, and exploring the various treatment options available.
WHAT IS WHIPLASH?
Whiplash is a non-medical term often used to describe a range of neck injuries resulting from or related to a sudden distortion of the neck associated with the extension. It is also called neck sprain or neck strain, caused by a sudden force that results in an unrestrained, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck and head, much like the cracking of a whip, hence the term âwhiplashâ.
THE VULNERABILITY OF CHILDREN TO WHIPLASH
Contrary to common belief, children are not just small adults. Their bodies are still developing, and their anatomy is distinctly different. This, coupled with their lifestyle and certain activities, makes them more prone to injuries, including whiplash.
Childrenâs heads are disproportionately larger compared to their bodies. This increased head-to-body ratio can increase the whip effect on the neck during sudden movements or impacts, causing more pronounced injury.
RECOGNIZING WHIPLASH INJURIES IN CHILDREN
Recognizing whiplash in children at Trident Health and Chiropractic in Spartanburg can be challenging, as they may not always be able to communicate their symptoms effectively. It is essential for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to be vigilant for any changes in a childâs behavior or physical condition following an accident or injury. Common signs and symptoms of whiplash in children may include:
Neck pain and stiffness
Children may complain of pain or discomfort in the neck area. They may find it difficult to turn their head or experience stiffness when moving their neck.
Headaches
Children may experience frequent headaches, which may be persistent or intermittent.
Changes in behavior
Whiplash can cause irritability, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep patterns, and mood swings in children.
Fatigue
Children may feel tired or fatigued more easily than usual.
Dizziness
Some children may experience dizziness or lightheadedness following a whiplash injury.
Sensory disturbances
Whiplash can sometimes lead to sensory disturbances, such as tingling or numbness in the arms or hands.
COMPLICATIONS OF WHIPLASH IN CHILDREN
While many children with whiplash recover within a few weeks, some might continue to have chronic neck pain and other long-lasting complications. Chronic symptoms can cause children to miss school and other activities, which can be emotionally challenging.
Additionally, if left untreated, whiplash could potentially lead to early-onset arthritis in the neck. This is why recognizing the symptoms and seeking immediate medical attention is crucial to prevent long-term damage and ensure a full recovery.

DIAGNOSING WHIPLASH IN CHILDREN
If whiplash is suspected, itâs crucial to seek medical attention immediately. The doctor will perform a thorough examination, which might include:
Medical History:Â This includes details about how the injury happened, the childâs symptoms, and any past neck or head injuries.
Physical Examination:Â The doctor will check for physical signs of injury, such as tenderness, and assess the childâs range of motion and reflexes.
Imaging Tests:Â In some cases, the doctor may order imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs to assess the extent of the injury and rule out other conditions.
TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR WHIPLASH IN SPARTANBURG
When it comes to treating whiplash in children, a comprehensive approach that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of the injury is crucial. Here are some common treatment options:
Rest and activity modification:Â Initially, children with whiplash may require rest and limited physical activity to allow the injured tissues to heal. Gradually, a healthcare professional may recommend gentle exercises and stretches to improve range of motion and promote healing.
Physical therapy:Â Physical therapy exercises and techniques can help strengthen the neck muscles, improve range of motion, and reduce pain in children with whiplash.
Chiropractic care:Â Chiropractic care can be an effective treatment option for children with whiplash. Chiropractors are trained to evaluate and treat musculoskeletal injuries, including whiplash. They may use gentle spinal adjustments, manual therapies, and other techniques to help alleviate pain, improve mobility, and promote healing.
Counseling and support:Â Whiplash injuries can have emotional effects on children. Counseling or therapy sessions can help children cope with the psychological impact of the injury and provide support during their recovery.
LONG-TERM PROGNOSIS AND PREVENTION FOR WHIPLASH
The majority of children with whiplash recover within a few weeks to months with appropriate treatment. However, in some cases, children may continue to experience symptoms like neck pain and headaches for a year or more, a condition known as post-concussion syndrome.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE SAFE FOR KIDS?
Kids see Chiropractors all the time, and itâs highly recommended. Chiropractic care is safe for humans of all ages. Chiropractors focus specifically on gentle, non-invasive adjustments to the spinal column. When vertebrae in the spine become misaligned, they cause extra pressure on the nervous system which can cause unnecessary pain, aches, and develop into serious problems if not addressed.
Especially with children, spinal health is extremely important to promote natural healing and properly develop as they grow. We recommend children of all ages see a chiropractor in Spartanburg on a regular basis, even with no signs of pain or discomfort, to ensure they are growing and developing properly.

COMMONS REASONS KIDS SEE CHIROPRACTORS
Kids are active. Playing with friends, engaging in sports, and growing rapidly puts a lot of pressure on the spine. Chiropractors can help kids manage pain and discomfort, improve their athletic performance, and keep them growing healthy and strong.
Here are some of the most common reasons kids see chiropractors:
Chronic ear infections
Bedwetting
Allergies
Asthma
ADD/ADHD
Scoliosis
A childâs spine might become misaligned without their awareness, causing them to feel pain or discomfort. Kids are not always aware or alert enough to recognize a condition developing. Even if a child is in pain, they may not be able to communicate it to you, which might seem like grumpiness, acting out, or continuous crying. Problems with the spine, in addition to causing a slew of other childhood problems such as colic, ear infections, and ADHD, can also be responsible for a range of issues.

HIP PAIN TREATMENT IN SPARTANBURG
HIP PAIN TREATMENT IN SPARTANBURG
Hip pain is a common problem. Our chiropractic team is here to help you alleviate hip pain and eliminate it altogether. We work with you to find the root cause of your hip pain and build a customized care plan to get you on the path to optimal health.
Hip pain usually occurs on one side and can be caused by a variety of things. Sometimes, the cause of hip pain is never found and the pain fades after a few days or weeks. A strained muscle dislocated joint, bone spur, inflammation (e.g., bursitis), nerve irritation (e.g., sciatica), or injury to some other structure in your hip area can cause hip pain.
COMMON CAUSES OF HIP PAIN
There can be a lot of reasons youâre experiencing pain in your hip. Regardless, itâs best to seek help from our Chiropractic team in Spartanburg to find the cause and treat it before it gets worse.
Muscle strain
Muscle strain is a common cause of hip pain. It can be caused by overuse or repetitive motions, or by a sudden, traumatic event. Muscle strain in the hip can lead to pain, stiffness, and swelling in the area.
Dislocated joint
A dislocated joint is when the bones in your hip move out of place. This can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty moving.
Bone spur
A bone spur is a piece of bone that sticks out and can cause pain in the hip. It can happen when someone has done too much exercise or if theyâve fallen on their side.
Inflammation (e.g., bursitis)
Inflammation is a localized physical response to injury or infection, in which the bodyâs white blood cells and chemical mediators accumulate in the affected tissues. Inflammation can cause pain and swelling if not treated.
Nerve irritation (e.g., sciatica)
Nerve irritation in the hip, also known as sciatica, can cause pain, tingling, and numbness in the hip and down the leg. It is often caused by a herniated disk in the lower back that presses on the sciatic nerve.
HOW CHIROPRACTORS TREAT HIP PAIN
Chiropractors in Spartanburg use a variety of techniques to adjust the hips, depending on the cause of the pain. If muscle strain is the cause, they may use massage or other hands-on techniques to help loosen the muscle and relieve the pain. If there is a dislocated joint, they will adjust it back into place. If there is a bone spur, they may use a chiropractic instrument to gently break it up. If there is inflammation, they may use ice or heat therapy, or recommend over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. If there is nerve irritation, they may use spinal manipulation or adjustments to relieve the pressure on the nerve.
The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to realign your hips and spine to spark natural healing and relieve pressure on the nerves. In most cases, this drastically helps relieve the pain in your hips and allows your body to start healing properly.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY IN SPARTANBURG
WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE?
Myofascial Release is a chiropractic treatment that helps to improve the function of muscles and connective tissues. It does this by lengthening and softening the tissue. Myofascial Release has been shown to be an effective treatment for a variety of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
This is a common and effective treatment option for many people, as it can help to improve range of motion, flexibility, and strength. Myofascial Release is often used in combination with other chiropractic treatments, such as spinal manipulation and massage. Myofascial Release is a safe and effective treatment option for many people.
HOW DOES MYOFASCIAL RELEASE WORK?
Myofascial Release Therapy is performed with the hands-on application of gentle, sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. During treatment, we use a special type of scraping/massage tool that helps to release the fascia. This Myofascial Release technique is also called Graston Technique.
We will find any restrictions in your Myofascial tissue and work to release them by applying the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to the tissue. The goal is to help lengthen and re-align the collagen fibers so that they can resume their normal healthy state.
Myofascial Release treatments are usually gentle and relaxing. You may feel a sense of release and decreased pain in the areas treated. It is not unusual to experience increased range of motion and improved mobility following Myofascial Release therapy. Myofascial Release treatments are usually performed in a series of sessions in order to achieve the maximum benefit.
WHAT DOES MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY TREAT?
Mayofascial Release treatments can be an extremely valuable option in your care plan. The following areas can often become tense because of myofascial tissue and be relieved with this type of therapy:
Arms an shoulders
Hips, calves, quads, and feet
Head, neck, and jaw
Lower back
BENEFITS OF MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY

ROTATOR CUFF TREATMENT IN SPARTANBURG
WHAT IS A ROTATOR CUFF?
Your rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that attach your shoulder blade to your upper arm bone. The rotator cuff helps lift your arm and rotate it inwards and outwards. The rotator cuff is made up of four muscles: the Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis.
This is a major joint that is used in a variety of motions on a daily basis, which is why an injury to this area can be so debilitating. When any of the muscles or tendons in the rotator cuff are damaged, it can cause a lot of pain and limit your mobility. Small injuries may seem insignificant, but can develop into more painful and serious problems if left untreated. This is why itâs vitally important to seek help when youâre experiencing any form of pain in your shoulder.
WHAT CAUSES ROTATOR CUFF INJURIES?
There are a few different ways that you can injure your rotator cuff. One of the most common ways is through overuse. This generally happens with athletes or people who have jobs that require repetitive motions of the shoulder and arm. Other causes of rotator cuff injuries include:
Direct impact to the shoulder
Falling on an outstretched arm
Lifting something heavy with your arm extended overhead
TYPES OF ROTATOR CUFF INJURIES
There are a few different types of rotator cuff injuries that range in severity. The most common type is tendinitis, which is when the tendons in the rotator cuff become inflamed. This is often caused by overuse or repetitive motions and can be treated with rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medication. However, if the tendinitis is left untreated, it can lead to a more serious injury called tendonosis. Tendonosis is when the tendons in the rotator cuff begin to break down and degenerate. This is a much more serious injury that often requires surgery to correct.
Another common type of rotator cuff injury is bursitis. Bursitis is when the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the rotator cuff become inflamed. This is often caused by repetitive motions or direct trauma to the area. Bursitis can be treated with rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medication. However, if the bursitis is left untreated, it can lead to a more serious injury called impingement syndrome. Impingement syndrome is when the rotator cuff becomes trapped or pinched in the shoulder joint.
ROTATOR CUFF INJURY SYMPTOMS
There are a few different symptoms that you may experience if you have a rotator cuff injury. The most common symptom is pain in the shoulder that radiates down the arm. This pain is often worse at night or when you try to move your arm in certain ways. You may also experience weakness in your arm and difficulty moving it in certain directions. Another common symptom is a reduction in your range of motion.
HOW CHIROPRACTORS IN SPARTANBURG TREAT ROTATOR CUFFS
If you are suffering from a rotator cuff injury, a chiropractor can provide you with pain relief and rehabilitation exercises to help you heal. Our chiropractor in Spartanburg will first perform a thorough evaluation of your injury to determine the cause and extent of the damage. Once they have identified the problem, they will begin treatment.
Chiropractors often use a combination of treatments to help heal rotator cuff injuries. This may include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, ice or heat therapy, and electrical stimulation. The chiropractor will also prescribe a series of rehabilitation exercises to help you strengthen and stretch the muscles in the rotator cuff. These exercises can be done at home or in a gym and are designed to help promote natural healing of your shoulder and rotator cuff.
The best part about using a chiropractor in Spartanburgto treat your rotator cuff is that itâs an all natural solution. That means no medications and no invasive procedures.

INFLAMMATION TREATMENT IN SPARTANBURG
CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR INFLAMMATION IN SPARTANBURG
Inflammation is a natural bodily process that occurs when the immune system responds to infection or injury. It is characterized by swelling, redness, heat, and pain. Inflammation is necessary for healing, but can sometimes cause more harm than good if it persists for too long. There are many different causes of inflammation, including infection, autoimmune disorders, trauma, and exposure to toxins.
HOW DOES IV THERAPY HELP WITH INFLAMMATION?
IV therapy is becoming an increasingly popular way to help reduce inflammation throughout the body. By delivering a high concentration of anti-inflammatory medications directly to the bloodstream, it is possible to achieve faster and more consistent results than with traditional oral medication. Additionally, IV therapy allows for a customizable treatment plan that can be tailored specifically to each individualâs needs. It is used to treat a variety of conditions, including dehydration, malnutrition, and chronic pain. This can help to improve overall health and prevent small issues from turning into bigger ones.
Another great way to treat inflammation is with Dry Needling. Dry Needling treatments are all natural and help reduce pain, movement issues, and stimulates your muscles. This technique can be extremely beneficial in your care plan.
HOW DOES ULTRASOUND THERAPY HELP WITH INFLAMMATION?
Ultrasound therapy has been found to be an effective method in reducing inflammation. When ultrasound waves are applied to the inflamed area, they cause the tissues to vibrate. This vibration loosens and separates the cells, which allows blood and other fluids to flow more freely. The increased blood flow carries away toxins and other waste products. This in turn helps to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive treatment, which makes it a safe and popular choice for people who want to treat inflammation without medication.
GET INFLAMMATION TREATMENT IN SPARTANBURG
At Trident Health and Chiropractic, we are proud to offer Inflammation treatments using both ultrasound therapy and IV therapy. WHAT IS ARTHRITIS?
Generally, people experiencing any type of arthritis experience several different symptoms including:
Localized pain in the affected joints
Stiffness and reduced range of motion
Swelling and redness
There are two primary types of arthritis:
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused by wear and tear on your joints. Over time, the cartilage that cushions your joints can break down, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis, affecting millions of people in the United States.
This is very common and generally becomes worse over time and as you age. It can start out mild and develop into more pain and discomfort over time without properly treating or managing the symptoms.
Chiropractic care can significantly help reduce the pain, swelling, and stiffness of your joints that are suffering from Osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis

This is known as an autoimmune condition, and can not be treated with traditional chiropractic care. This usually requires medication from a medical doctor in order to manage.
HOW CHIROPRACTORS TREAT ARTHRITIS
Although there is no actual cure for arthritis, Chiropractic care has been proven to be extremely effective in helping mitigate and manage the symptoms. poor stress response and mood regulation
cognitive issues or âbrain fogâ

WHAT CAUSES ADRENAL FATIGUE?
There are four primary triggers for HPA-D:
Perceived stress:Â Emotional and psychological stress.
Glycemic dysregulation:Â High and low blood sugar, or alternating between the two.
Circadian disruption:Â Sleep deprivation, too much light exposure at night, not enough exposure to daylight, shift work, and frequent travel between time zones.
Inflammatory signaling:Â Inflammation caused by poor diet, physical inactivity or overtraining, gut dysfunction (SIBO, dysbiosis, gut infections, leaky gut, etc.), autoimmune disease, and many other modern sources of inflammation.
Some important things to note about adrenal fatigue:
Adrenal fatigue is not recognized the medical literature. But, that doesnât mean that itâs a myth. In our experiences, adrenal fatigue is definitely a real thing. Hereâs data to back that up: Fatigue makes up more than 20% of all guest contacts in primary care or 18 million visits in the US. 75-90% of primary care visits have been reported to be stress related. Conventional medicine is often at a loss of how to care for these guests.
WHATâS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADRENAL FATIGUE AND ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY?
While the diagnosis of adrenal fatigue is not accepted by most doctors, adrenal insufficiency is a real medical condition that occurs when our adrenal glands cannot produce enough hormones. Adrenal insufficiency is caused by damage to the adrenal glands or a problem with the pituitary glandâa pea-sized gland in the brain that tells the adrenals to produce cortisol.
A person with adrenal insufficiency may be dehydrated, confused, or losing weight. He or she may feel weak, tired, or dizzy, and have low blood pressure. Other symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Adrenal insufficiency is diagnosed through blood tests, and can be treated with medications that replace the hormones the adrenals would normally make.

10 MYTHS & MISCONCEPTIONS ON NUTRIENT IV THERAPY SIMPLY EXPLAINED
Thereâs no shortage of research reporting the experience and effectiveness of IV nutrient treatment. Youâve probably come across news stories on IV nutrient therapy or reports on celebrities receiving vitamin B12 injections. However, what may grab the attention of readers isnât always the whole truth and it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.
FIRST, LETâS DEFINE WHAT IS IV (INTRAVENOUS) NUTRIENT TREATMENT:
Simply put, itâs a safe and effective method of supplying the body with natural vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly through the bloodstream. Nutrient IVs are similar to those found at your local hospital. These natural nutrient infusions are administered using a small IV (intravenous) injection. This method ensures that all nutrients are absorbed at the cellular level to enhance your energy level, improve your overall mood, and help prevent future health conditions caused by stress, poor nutrition, and dehydration. While it is safe and standardized, it is a medicinal practice that is frequently misunderstood and has developed numerous misconceptions and myths.
Here are the facts to 10 common misconceptions and myths you might have heard of about nutrient IV treatment:
MYTH #1: NUTRIENT IV DRIPS ARE NOT SAFE
FACT: It is as safe as IVs found at your local hospital, and doctors endorse it.
MYTH #2: VITAMIN IV THERAPY IS TOO PAINFUL
FACT: Discomfort levels vary from person to person. Liquivida Lounge uses a smaller needle than whatâs used in childrenâs hospitals.
The entire process is relatively painless for most people. It can be a little painful if you tend to experience discomfort with needle insertion. But overall, IV nutrition therapy is comfortable and is not toxic to the body. In nearly all cases, once the immediate benefit of the treatment is felt, minor discomfort is greatly outweighed by the benefits experienced- both short and long-term.
MYTH #3: IT DOESNâT HELP REDUCE COMMON COLD SYMPTOMS
FACT: It can be your preventive measure against the common cold.
MYTH #4: IT IS LESS EFFECTIVE THAN INGESTING THE VARIOUS NUTRIENTS
FACT: By the time you start consumption, some foods have lost their nutrients. Additionally, the body can sometimes waste nutrients.
The traditional approach to getting nutrients into the body is by ingesting them in pills or by eating normally, but itâs not as effective as you might think- even if you eat healthy. Your bodyâs gastrointestinal tract can sometimes fail to absorb the vitamins and minerals into the bloodstream, turning them into waste. Even when your bodyâs digestive system is working properly, nutrient-rich foods inadvertently lose vitamins and minerals when prepared and cooked a certain way. Scientific American reports that cooking vegetables lowers the vitamin levels found in them naturally. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that vitamin C levels in tomatoes decline by 29 percent when cooked for 30 minutes at 190 degrees F.
MYTH #5: IT TAKES A WHILE TO FEEL THE EFFECTS
FACT: It can take the body anywhere from 12-48 hours to digest solid foods completely. IV therapy is an immediate way for you to feel the effects of all the essential nutrients, compared to when ingested. Once the IV is inserted, the vitamin infusion goes directly into the bloodstream. The body then uses the vitamins to perform and facilitate many essential functions, including regulating metabolism, creating red blood cells, and maintaining the immune system. You may feel the physical effects, such as increased energy, right away depending on your nutritional and hydration levels. In some cases, you may even see better skin complexion and improved mood for subsequent days.
Aside from using an IV, an injection is another quick and effective way to get the full effects of vitamins. For instance, many people, especially athletes, often receive B12 injections since itâs another fast way to feel the vitaminâs full benefits. These can include increased energy levels, increased metabolism, and overall improved mood among others.
MYTH #6: IT DOESNâT HELP IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC ILLNESSES
FACT: Studies support the benefits of IV infusions with Vitamin C in cancer patients. Living with a chronic illness is never easy. Standard treatments for conditions like cancer often have painful and debilitating side effects. While IV nutrient treatment is not a substitute for these treatments, it is a complementary solution that can help improve the quality of life for people with serious illnesses or even allergies.
The National Cancer Institute reports that breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy who received intravenous (IV) vitamin C had a better quality of life and fewer side effects than those who did not receive it. In addition, fibromyalgia patients report having reduced symptoms due to IV treatment. Fibromyalgia Researcher David Katz, MD says that about four out of every five people with fibromyalgia receiving an IV treatment of vitamin B, vitamin C, and other nutrients helps ease their symptoms, including pain and fatigue. While research on the effects of IV nutrient treatment on managing chronic illness must continue, it is very promising for enhancing the quality of life overall.
MYTH #7: IT IS NOT SUITED FOR ACTIVE, HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
FACT: Not only can IV therapy be used for many types of health problems, but it can also mend sore muscles, boost the immune system, help with post-workout muscle recovery, dehydration, chronic fatigue and much more.
Not all IV nutrient treatments are the same. In fact, there are many types that address specific needs. While some help treats cold symptoms or side effects of chronic illnesses, others can help with more common ailments, such as migraines, exhaustion, stress, and memory loss. Whatever your need may be, IV nutrient treatments can target it by using specific infusions to alleviate your present condition. By undergoing consistent IV therapies, conditions can be lessened or completely eliminated.
MYTH #8: ITâS ONLY NEEDED ONCE
FACT: No one eats protein once; other nutrients are no different. You should be consistent with your IV nutrient treatments to empower your lifestyle.
Some IV nutrient infusions apply to one-time use, such as after a night out using a hangover fix. However, IV nutrient treatment as a practice is focused on maintaining optimal levels of nutrients in the body. In order to do that effectively, regular administration of IV infusions must occur. As mentioned before, the body may not always get the proper amount of nutrients needed to perform essential physical and mental functions. IV nutrient treatment is a reliable way to ensure that youâre not missing out on essential nutrients your body craves. You could receive iv infusion therapy every day, but you should tailor it to your bodyâs demands. Consistent nutrient IV treatments will ensure stable (reliable) results in your overall health.
MYTH #9: IT TAKES UP TOO MUCH TIME
FACT: Liquivida Lounge provides a private and soothing ambiance, so you can relax the mind while you replenish the body. You may think that IV nutrient treatment could take too long, but the session generally lasts for 30 to 45 minutes. While making time in your schedule may be difficult, doing an IV nutrient treatment takes even less time than going to the gym or preparing a meal. Itâs a quick, effective, and relaxing practice to add to a healthy lifestyle or health regime.
MYTH #10: ITâS TOO EXPENSIVE
FACT: Treating ailments can be more costly than taking preventive measures.
When you hear about celebrities getting IV nutrient therapies and B12 injections, you probably think itâs expensive and high maintenance. On the contrary, IV nutrient therapies and vitamin injections are affordable for most budgets since they are most effective when done regularly. Itâs always a good idea to ask for special offers or discounts if you intend to make intravenous infusion treatment a regular part of your lifestyle.
Very often, nutraceutical deficiencies that have been left unchecked for long periods of time are the cause of acute and chronic illnesses. These illnesses have a price, too. Nutrient IV treatment will get your body rebalanced as quickly and efficiently as possible. Although IV nutrient treatments may continue getting attention and making headlines, remember to consider all the facts. Now that you know about the process and benefits of IV nutrient treatments, take advantage of these high-performing treatments, and give your body the fuel it needs to function properly.

WHAT IS A BULGING DISC & THE TOP TREATMENT OPTIONS
A bulging disc occurs when the soft cushioning material between the vertebrae of your spine starts to push out, which can cause pain and discomfort in other parts of your body. This condition is known as a herniated or bulging disc. Depending on where it is located, a bulging disc can cause nerve impingement, back pain, neck pain, and even numbness or tingling in the arms or legs.
Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options available for those suffering from bulging discs. A chiropractor in Spartanburg is often used to help strengthen the muscles around the spine and improve the range of motion. Exercises may include stretches, core strengthening, or yoga.
WHAT IS A BULGING DISC?

SYMPTOMS OF BULGING DISC IN SPARTANBURG
A bulging disc can cause several different types of symptoms depending on where it is located in your spine and what nerves are affected by the pressure. Some common symptoms include:Â
âą Lower back painÂ
âą Neck painÂ
âą Tingling or numbness in limbs or other parts of the body Â
âą Muscle weakness or stiffness in certain areas  Â
âą Difficulty bending or moving certain parts of the body  Â
âą Pain that radiates down into your legs or arms  Â
CAUSE OF BULGING DISC IN SPARTANBURG
The most common cause of a bulging disc is aging. As we get older, our bones and muscles naturally become weaker as wear and tear take their toll over time. This weakening can cause the discs between our vertebrae to not hold up as well as they once did, leading to a bulging disc.Â
Here are some of the cases of Bulging Discs:
Age-related Wear and TearÂ
As we age, our spine discs naturally become weakened due to general wear and tear. This weakening can cause them to bulge outwards when too much pressure is put on them. The most common type of age-related bulging disc occurs in the lower back (lumbar region). Other types may occur in different parts of the spine.Â
Injury or TraumaÂ
Injury or trauma to the spine can also cause a disc to bulge outwards. The most common types of injuries that can lead to a bulging disc are falls, motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries (especially contact sports), and heavy lifting. In some cases, even minor incidents such as sneezing or coughing can lead to a slipped disc if there is already existing weakness in that area due to age-related wear and tear or another underlying medical condition.Â
Underlying Medical ConditionsÂ
Some underlying medical conditions can increase your risk of developing a bulging disc. These include obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis (when one vertebra slips over another), and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spaces within your spine). If you have any of these underlying medical conditions, itâs important to talk with a chiropractic doctor at Trident Health & Chiropractic in Spartanburg about ways to reduce your risk of developing a bulging disc.Â
Lifestyle Factors   Â
Certain lifestyle factors can also increase your chances of developing a bulging disc. Poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption can all contribute to weak muscles that put extra strain on your spine and make it more likely for you to develop a bulging disc. Being overweight can also put extra pressure on your spine that increase your chances of developing a disc issue as well.Â
TOP TREATMENT OPTIONS OF BULGING DISC IN SPARTANBURG
Alternative Treatments
There are also alternative treatments that can be used to help relieve symptoms associated with bulging discs such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and yoga/stretching exercises. Chiropractors at Trident Health & Chiropractic specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the musculoskeletal system such as bulging discs.Â
Chiropractors use manual adjustment techniques, massage therapy, ultrasound, electric stimulation, and other treatments to help reduce pain and restore mobility in the affected area. Additionally, chiropractors may provide advice on lifestyle changes that can help prevent future issues or flare-ups
Dry Needling
Dry needling involves the insertion of fine needles into trigger points of the affected muscles surrounding the bulging disc. This technique aims to release tension, reduce muscle spasms, and promote healing by increasing blood flow. Many patients in Spartanburg have reported significant pain relief and improved flexibility after undergoing dry needling sessions.
Vitamin C Drips
Vitamin C drips, administered intravenously, have gained popularity for their potential to accelerate the bodyâs healing processes. Vitamin C is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its role in collagen synthesis, which can aid in disc repair. By receiving vitamin C drips, individuals with bulging discs can support their bodyâs natural healing mechanisms and potentially experience faster recovery times.
Stretching and Flexibility Exercises
Stretching exercises targeting the affected area can help reduce muscle tension and improve flexibility, relieving pressure on the bulging disc. Incorporate stretches that focus on the lower back, hamstrings, and hip flexors to alleviate pain and enhance mobility.
How Hot and Cold Therapy WorksÂ
Hot and cold therapy can be used to treat bulging discs by reducing inflammation and providing temporary relief from pain. The heat increases blood circulation, which helps relax tight muscles in the affected area. This can reduce pressure on the disc, leading to less pain. On the other hand, applying cold compresses to the affected area can reduce swelling by constricting blood vessels. This can also help numb the area so you donât feel any discomfort.Â

CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUES: PROVEN METHODS TO ALLEVIATE ARTHRITIS PAIN

Arthritis is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide, causing chronic pain, stiffness, and limited mobility in the joints. While traditional medical treatments can be effective, many individuals seek alternative approaches to manage their arthritis pain. Chiropractic care offers a natural and holistic option that focuses on the musculoskeletal system, providing potential relief and improved quality of life.
Chiropractic adjustments, the cornerstone of chiropractic care, aim to restore proper joint alignment and function. By aligning the spine and other affected joints, chiropractors can alleviate pressure on nerves, reduce inflammation, and improve overall joint mechanics. This approach may provide pain relief, increase joint mobility, and enhance overall well-being for individuals living with arthritis.
With its patient-centered approach, chiropractic care emphasizes collaboration between the chiropractor and the individual seeking treatment. By empowering patients with knowledge and offering personalized care, chiropractors can help individuals actively manage their arthritis pain and improve their overall quality of life.
3 TYPES OF ARTHRITIS THAT CHIROPRACTIC CAN HELP WITH
Chiropractic care can be beneficial for various types of arthritis. While chiropractors do not cure arthritis, they can help manage its symptoms and improve the overall well-being of individuals with arthritis. Here are three common types of arthritis that chiropractic can assist with:
OsteoarthritisÂ
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis and occurs due to the breakdown of cartilage in the joints. It commonly affects weight-bearing joints such as the knees, hips, and spine. Chiropractic care can provide relief for individuals with osteoarthritis by focusing on improving joint function and reducing pain. Chiropractors at Trident Health and Chiropractic in Spartanburg use techniques like spinal manipulation, massage therapy, and exercise programs to alleviate stiffness, enhance joint mobility, and strengthen the surrounding muscles. By restoring proper alignment and reducing joint stress, chiropractic care can help individuals with osteoarthritis maintain an active lifestyle and manage their pain effectively.
Rheumatoid ArthritisÂ
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation in the joints. It commonly affects the hands, wrists, feet, and ankles. Chiropractic care can be beneficial for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis by addressing joint mobility and reducing inflammation. Chiropractors may use gentle techniques like mobilization, stretching, and low-force adjustments to improve joint function and reduce pain. Additionally, they may recommend lifestyle modifications, nutritional guidance, and stress reduction techniques to support the overall management of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. By promoting joint health and enhancing the bodyâs natural healing mechanisms, chiropractic care can play a valuable role in the comprehensive treatment plan for rheumatoid arthritis.
Psoriatic ArthritisÂ
Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that affects individuals with psoriasis, a chronic skin condition. It causes joint pain, swelling, and stiffness and commonly affects the fingers, toes, wrists, knees, and ankles. Chiropractic care can help individuals with psoriatic arthritis by addressing joint misalignments and reducing inflammation. Chiropractors may employ techniques such as spinal adjustments, massage therapy, and exercise programs to improve joint mobility, alleviate pain, and support overall joint health. They may also provide recommendations for lifestyle modifications and nutritional guidance to help manage the symptoms of psoriatic arthritis effectively. By taking a holistic approach, chiropractic care can contribute to the well-being of individuals with psoriatic arthritis.
CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUES IN SPARTANBURG FOR ARTHRITIS PAIN
Chiropractors use various techniques to address arthritis pain and related symptoms. The choice of method depends on the individualâs condition, preferences, and the chiropractorâs expertise. Here are some common chiropractic techniques that may be used for arthritis pain:
Spinal adjustments
Spinal adjustments, also known as spinal manipulations, are the primary treatment method used by chiropractors. These manual techniques involve applying controlled force to specific areas of the spine to restore proper alignment and joint function. By improving joint mobility and reducing nerve interference, spinal adjustments may help alleviate pain and improve overall spinal health.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a specialized technique performed by trained chiropractors and other healthcare professionals. It involves the insertion of fine needles into specific trigger points within muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles, dry needling is rooted in Western medicine and focuses on addressing musculoskeletal issues and pain.
IV Therapy Vitamin C
IV therapy involves the direct infusion of nutrients, including high-dose vitamin C, into the bloodstream. By bypassing the digestive system, this method allows for faster and more efficient absorption of nutrients, ensuring optimal bioavailability. Vitamin C, known for its antioxidant and immune-boosting properties, has been widely studied for its therapeutic potential in various health conditions, including arthritis.
Mobilization
Mobilization techniques are gentler than spinal adjustments and involve using repetitive, low-velocity movements to gradually increase joint mobility. These techniques are often used when spinal adjustments may not be appropriate or tolerated by the patient. Mobilization can help reduce pain, improve joint range of motion, and promote better joint function.
Soft tissue therapies
Chiropractors may employ soft tissue therapies to address arthritis-related pain and muscle tension. These techniques include massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy. Soft tissue therapies can help relax muscles, reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and relieve pain in the affected areas.
Active exercise and stretching
Chiropractors may prescribe specific exercises and stretches to individuals with arthritis. These exercises aim to improve joint stability, strengthen supporting muscles, increase flexibility, and enhance overall function. Active exercise and stretching can assist in managing arthritis symptoms and preventing further joint deterioration.
Adjunctive therapies
Chiropractors often complement their treatments with additional therapies to optimize results for individuals with arthritis. These may include heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and low-level laser therapy. These adjunctive therapies can help reduce pain, promote tissue healing, decrease inflammation, and improve overall comfort.
Lifestyle recommendations
Chiropractors may provide guidance on lifestyle modifications to support arthritis management. This can include advice on ergonomics, posture correction, nutrition, weight management, and stress reduction techniques. These recommendations aim to reduce stress on the joints, enhance overall well-being, and improve the bodyâs ability to manage arthritis symptoms.
HOW CAN CHIROPRACTIC CARE IN SPARTANBURG HELP THOSE WITH ARTHRITIS
Chiropractors deliver a gentle, non-invasive, non-addictive therapy called chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints in the body in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve the function of both the affected joint and the nervous system. By increasing joint mobility and improving your nervous system function and spinal health, your body has the ability to better manage symptoms caused by osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Chiropractic care may offer some benefits for individuals with arthritis, although the effect can vary from person to person. Here are some ways chiropractic care may help those with arthritis:
Reduced Pain and Discomfort
Improved joint mobility and flexibility
Posture correction
Increased Activity and Lifestyle
Decreased InflammationÂ
CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR ARTHRITIS PAIN IN SPARTANBURG
Chiropractic care provides a valuable and natural approach for individuals seeking relief from arthritis pain. Through spinal adjustments, mobilization techniques, and soft tissue therapies, chiropractors aim to improve joint alignment, enhance mobility, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate pain. By incorporating lifestyle modifications and exercise recommendations, chiropractic care promotes overall well-being and empowers individuals to actively manage their arthritis pain.
What makes chiropractic care particularly beneficial is its patient-centered approach. Chiropractors take the time to understand each patientâs unique needs, tailor treatment plans accordingly, and educate individuals about their condition and self-care techniques. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of empowerment and encourages patients to actively participate in their healing process.
While chiropractic care may not be a cure for arthritis, it can play a significant role in pain management and improving quality of life. Its non-invasive nature and focus on natural healing make it an attractive option for those seeking alternatives to traditional medical interventions.

ATHLETIC OVERTRAINING & PERFORMANCE
IV THERAPY FOR ATHLETES
One way we help Athletic performance is through IV Hydration Therapy.
As your body trains and performs, it increases its demand for proper nutrients to heal and restore muscles. Our IV Therapy drips help deliver high amounts of key nutrients directly to your bloodstream so you can bypass the gut and get your body the ingredients it needs to perform at the highest level.
PREVENT ATHLETE OVERTRAINING IN SPARTANBURG
The key to recovery is to reduce or stop anything more than moderate physical activity for some time. How long depends on symptoms severity and how long youâve been overtraining. Focus on gentle activities for recovery such as walking in nature, yoga, or massage. Address any underlying stress-induced HPA-Axis dysregulation, inflammation, gut dysbiosis, nutrient depletion, hormone imbalances, and oxidative stress. Get plenty of sleep and nap during the day. Ensure you do not restrict calories or diet once overtrained. Your body needs an adequate supply of macronutrients especially protein and micronutrients.
WHAT IS OVERTRAINING SYNDROME / BURNOUT?
Overtraining syndrome occurs when an athlete doesnât adequately recover after repetitive intense training, and can include fatigue, declining performance and potential injury. Itâs admirable to train hard to succeed in your chosen sport. Logging many miles, spending hours at the gym and working hard day after day can certainly help you achieve your athletic goals. But too much training without sufficient recovery can hinder your progress â and even lead to a decline in your performance.
There are two classifications for too much exercise: overreaching and overtraining.
Overreaching is muscle soreness above and beyond what you typically experience that occurs when you donât sufficiently recover between workouts. Overreaching usually happens after several consecutive days of hard training and results in feeling run down. Luckily, the effects of overreaching can be easily reversed with rest.
Overtraining occurs when an athlete ignores the signs of overreaching and continues to train. Many athletes believe that weakness or poor performance signals the need for even harder training, so they continue to push themselves. This only breaks down the body further.
SYMPTOMS AND WARNING SIGNS OF OVERTRAINING
It may be hard to know when youâre overtraining. âItâs natural and expected to feel fatigued after challenging training sessions,â Dr. Goolsby says. âBut feeling like you arenât recovering between sessions or experiencing overall fatigue and difficulty pushing yourself during workouts can be indicators of overtraining.â
TRAINING-RELATED SIGNS OF OVERTRAINING
Unusual muscle soreness after a workout, which persists with continued training
Inability to train or compete at a previously manageable level
âHeavyâ leg muscles, even at lower exercise intensities
Delays in recovery from training
Performance plateaus or declines
Thoughts of skipping or cutting short training sessions
LIFESTYLE-RELATED SIGNS OF OVERTRAINING
Prolonged general fatigue
Increase in tension, depression, anger or confusion
Inability to relax
Poor-quality sleep
Lack of energy, decreased motivation, moodiness
Not feeling joy from things that were once enjoyable
HEALTH-RELATED SIGNS OF OVERTRAINING
Increased occurrences of illness
Increased blood pressure and at-rest heartrate
Irregular menstrual cycles; missing periods
Weight loss; appetite loss
Constipation; diarrhea

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF NECK PAIN & THEIR COMMON CAUSES

Most of us experience neck pain at some point in our lives. It can be caused by a number of things, including poor posture, muscle strain, or a pinched nerve. Depending on the cause, neck pain can be acute or chronic, and vary in intensity from mild to excruciating.
If you are one of the millions of people who suffer from neck pain, you know that it can be both frustrating and debilitating. Neck pain can have many different causes, so it is important to understand the different types and their common causes. This will help you to better manage your neck pain and improve your quality of life.
2 MAIN TYPE OF NECK PAIN IN SPARTANBURG
There are two main types of neck pain: Acute Neck Pain and Chronic Neck Pain.Â
Acute Neck Pain
Acute neck pain is the most common type of neck pain. It is usually caused by something minor, like poor posture, sleeping in an awkward position, or strained muscles from overuse. This type of neck pain is usually short-lived and resolved within a few days or weeks. However, if your pain persists for more than a few weeks or is accompanied by other symptoms like numbness, tingling, or weakness, it is important to see a Chiropractor doctor at Trident Health and Chiropractic in Spartanburg as you may have a more serious condition.
Chronic Neck Pain
COMMON CAUSES OF NECK PAIN IN SPARTANBURG
There are many different things that can cause neck pain. Some of the most common causes include:
Muscle Strain
Muscle strains are often caused by repetitive motions or sudden movements that overload the muscles in the neck and shoulders.Â
Neck Sprain / Strain
Neck strain is often caused by poor posture or repetitive motions such as typing at a computer keyboard or staring at a screen for long periods of time. This type of neck pain is typically characterized by muscle stiffness and soreness. Treatment for neck strain typically includes hot/cold therapy, gentle stretching exercises, and massage.Â
Degenerative Diseases
Arthritis is the most common degenerative disease that affects the neck, but there are others as well. These diseases cause the vertebrae in the spine to deteriorate, which can lead to nerve compression and severe pain.
Herniated Discs
The discs act as cushions between the vertebrae in your spine. A herniated disc occurs when a disc ruptures or leaks fluid into the spinal canal. This can cause nerve compression and lead to neck pain.
Pinched Nerves
A pinched nerve occurs when too much pressure is placed on a nerve by bones, muscles, or tendons. This pressure can cause irritation and inflammation of the nerve, resulting in neck pain.Â
Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical spondylosis is a degenerative condition that occurs when the discs in the neck begin to deteriorate. This deterioration can lead to the narrowing of the spinal canal and compression of the nerves, causing neck pain.
Whiplash
HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE IN SPARTANBURG HELPS WITH NECK PAIN?
Chiropractic care is a type of alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including neck pain. Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to adjust the spine and other joints in the body.Â
Hereâs a look at how chiropractic care can help relieve your neck pain.
Chiropractic Adjustments
One of the main ways chiropractors help relieve neck pain is through chiropractic adjustments. Also known as spinal manipulation, chiropractic adjustments involve using your hands or a small instrument to apply pressure to the joints in your spine. This pressure helps align your spine and relieves tension in your muscles and ligaments.
In addition to providing relief from pain, chiropractic adjustments can also help improve your range of motion and increase your flexibility. This is especially beneficial if you suffer from stiffness or limited mobility due to your neck pain.
Therapeutic Exercises
In addition to chiropractic adjustments, many chiropractors also recommend therapeutic exercises as part of their treatment plans. Therapeutic exercises are designed to stretch and strengthen the muscles in your neck, shoulders, and upper back. These exercises can help improve your posture and decrease the strain on your spine. They can also help increase blood flow to the affected area, which can speed up healing.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a minimally invasive treatment option for those suffering from degenerative disc disease. It works by gently stretching the spine and targeting the affected discs to reduce pressure, improve mobility, and relieve pain.
This therapeutic approach targets the damaged discs by creating a negative pressure within them that encourages herniation reduction and hydration. Through gentle stretching of the spine, this type of therapy can help patients experience a significant reduction in nerve-related pain and other symptoms associated with degenerative disc disease.Â
For some individuals, regular spinal decompression treatment can provide long-term relief after just a few sessions. Those with especially severe cases may need more intensive treatments over an extended period of time to achieve significant improvement. Ultimately, Spinal Decompression Therapy offers an effective solution for those suffering from debilitating pain caused by degenerative disc disease.

WHAT CAUSES A PINCHED NERVE & HOW CHIROPRACTIC CAN HELP
A pinched nerve, also known as a compressed nerve, is a common condition that can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms. These symptoms can include pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness. A pinched nerve occurs when too much pressure is applied to a nerve by surrounding tissues such as bones, muscles, tendons, or cartilage. This pressure can be due to various factors, including injury, poor posture, arthritis, or a herniated disc.
Chiropractic care in Spartanburg is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to treating pinched nerves. By performing adjustments and other therapies, chiropractors can help relieve the pressure on the affected nerve, reducing pain and improving function.
Chiropractic adjustments involve the use of controlled force to realign the spine and other joints in the body. This can help to alleviate pressure on nerves that are being compressed by surrounding tissues. Chiropractors may also use other therapies, such as massage, and stretching to help reduce inflammation and improve circulation in the affected area.
WHAT CAUSES A PINCHED NERVE?
Pinched nerves can occur in various parts of the body, including the neck, back, wrist, elbow, and knee. There are several causes of pinched nerves, including:
Poor Posture:Â Poor postures, such as slouching or hunching over a desk or computer, can cause muscle imbalances and spinal misalignments that can put pressure on the nerves. This can lead to conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, or cervical radiculopathy.
Repetitive Stress:Â Repetitive activities, such as typing or playing sports, can cause overuse injuries that can irritate and inflame the nerves. This can lead to conditions such as tennis elbow, golferâs elbow, or trigger finger.
Degenerative Changes:Â Degenerative changes in the spine, such as herniated discs or osteoarthritis, can cause bone spurs or disc protrusions that can impinge on the nerves. This can lead to conditions such as sciatica, spinal stenosis, or radiculopathy.
Injury:Â An injury or trauma to the body, such as a fall or car accident, can damage nerves and cause them to become pinched. A sudden impact can cause the nerves to become compressed, leading to pain and discomfort.
Arthritis:Â Arthritis can cause bone spurs or other abnormalities that can put pressure on nerves. This can occur in the neck, back, or other areas of the body, leading to pinched nerves.
Obesity:Â Being overweight can put extra pressure on nerves, leading to pinched nerves. This is particularly common in the back and legs, where excess weight can compress nerves and cause pain and discomfort.
Pregnancy:Â During pregnancy, the weight of the baby can put pressure on certain nerves, leading to a pinched nerve. This is commonly seen in the lower back and legs.
Trauma:Â Traumatic injuries, such as whiplash or a fall, can cause acute nerve compression or inflammation that can lead to pain and dysfunction.
SYMPTOMS OF A PINCHED NERVE
The symptoms of a pinched nerve can vary depending on the location of the nerve and the severity of the compression. Some common symptoms include:
Pain:Â A pinched nerve can cause pain that may be sharp or dull, localized or widespread. The pain may be intermittent or constant, and it may be aggravated by certain activities or positions.
Numbness or Tingling:Â A pinched nerve can cause numbness or tingling in the affected area. This may feel like a pins-and-needles sensation or a loss of sensation.
Weakness:Â A pinched nerve can cause weakness in the affected area. This may make it difficult to grip objects, walk, or perform other activities.

HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE IN SPARTANBURG CAN HELPÂ
Chiropractic care at Trident Health and Chiropractic is a natural and effective treatment for a pinched nerve. Chiropractors are trained to identify the root cause of the pinched nerve and develop a treatment plan to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to reduce pressure on the nerves and improve their communication with the rest of the body. Here are some ways in which chiropractic care can help alleviate the symptoms of pinched nerves:
Spinal Adjustments:Â Chiropractors use their hands or a small instrument to apply gentle, precise forces to the spine and realign the vertebrae. This can reduce the pressure on the nerves and improve their mobility and communication with the rest of the body.
Spinal Decompression:Â Chiropractors may use spinal decompression therapy as a treatment option for patients with conditions such as herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal stenosis. Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that involves the use of a traction table or device to gently stretch the spine and alleviate pressure on the spinal discs and nerves.
Soft Tissue Therapy:Â Chiropractors may use massage, stretching, or other manual therapies to loosen tight muscles and fascia that can contribute to nerve compression. This can improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
Postural Education:Â Chiropractors can teach patients how to maintain proper posture and body mechanics to prevent further nerve compression. This may include ergonomic modifications, exercises, or lifestyle changes.
Lifestyle changes:Â Chiropractors may also recommend lifestyle changes to help prevent pinched nerves from occurring in the future. This may include weight loss, improving posture, and changing repetitive movements that may be contributing to the pinched nerve.
Rehabilitation Exercises:Â Chiropractors may prescribe specific exercises or stretches to help patients regain strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the affected area. This can improve nerve function and prevent future injuries.

TEXT NECK: IMPACT OF LOOKING DOWN AT OUR PHONES

We now spend a significant amount of time on our cellphones, computers, and tablets. According to studies, people spend about four hours each day gazing at their smartphones, equating to 1,400 hours per year. And, as we are scanning through our latest email, texts, or Whatsapp or Facebook updates, we are unconsciously putting our necks into an overstressed forward curve.Â
The term âText neckâ was coined by US chiropractor Dr. Dean L. Fishman to characterize this frequent condition. The main highlight is what does text neck entail, and how does it impact your health? Meanwhile, this article will walk you through the fundamentals of the condition and how to manage and prevent it. To begin, you should know more about your cervical spine so that you can better grasp everything.
THE CERVICAL SPINE
Your cervical spine is a fancy name for your neck. Itâs made up of seven small vertebrae and is the most movable and flexible part of your spine. It makes it so your head can move up and down and turn side to side. On top of that, your cervical spine has a natural lordotic curvature, which means it bends inward at your neck gently.Â
It helps even out the backward or kyphotic curve of your thoracic spine and helps balance the weight of your head evenly. Since your cervical spine is highly flexible, itâs also more vulnerable to pain and damage. And, one frequent source of this damage is text neck.Â
This is why chiropractors and doctors from Trident Health and Chiropractic do advise people to come for a check-up when they notice discomfort around their cervical spine region.
THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF TEXT NECK
Text neck is a term that describes the pains and discomforts around the neck and is caused by staring down at your phone, tablet, or another wireless device for an extended period. Looking down at your phone exerts strain on the front and rear of your neck, thereby increasing the risk of spinal disc bulging. And it appears to be becoming more common. Of course, bending your neck to glance down is a common position that occurs while not texting.Â
The issue with texting is that it adds another activity that encourages us to look down, and it tends to be done for considerably longer lengths of time. Itâs very troubling because young, growing childrenâs cervical spines could sustain an irreparable injury, resulting in lifelong neck pain.
Even if you have never heard of text neck, you must have probably experienced it. After gazing down at a game for too long or watching an episode of your favorite series, the tightness and tinge of pain creep up your neck and upper back. You probably donât realize how many times a day you look down at your phone to respond to an email, send a text, or look for directions. And all of those small motions can add up to be a tremendous ache in the neck and eventually lead to significant problems.
According to multiple studies, the weight carried down the spine increases by 10 pounds for every inch forward you hold your head. Looking down strains the front of the neck and leaves a space in the back. This is particularly problematic since it can cause intervertebral discs to move backward, increasing the risk of disc bulges. It also puts a strain on the back of the neck, as the muscles on the rear are constantly contracting, attempting to pull and hold the head in this forward posture.Â
Muscle strain and soreness in the back of the neck result as a result of this, and it doesnât end there. Text neck also causes tightness in the front of the neck and chest, causing discomfort or malfunction in the shoulders and middle back.
THE IMPACT OF TEXT NECK ON YOUR HEALTH
Generally, what a text neck can do to you is pains around the region of the neck. However, it doesnât stop there because there are other problems it could cause. Letâs have a look at them below;
1. STRUCTURAL BACK AND NECK PROBLEMS
As your posture deteriorates, the muscles in your upper back stretch out, and the muscles in your front body weaken, your neck moves forward, and your head feels ten pounds heavier. Tech neck can induce fear and respiratory problems in addition to structural back and neck problems. Maintaining a forward-rolled posture has a significant impact on your respiration.
2. NECK STRAIN
Using your mobile phone or laptop too much can put a lot of strain on your neck. A forward head position causes the muscles behind your neck to overstretch and the muscles in the front to shorten excessively. This is not only where most people store their tension, but it can also cause neck tightness, stiffness, and discomfort.
3. SHOULDER PAIN
You may also have shoulder pain in addition to the ache in your neck from texting on your smartphone. Because smartphones are so small, many people stoop their shoulders to hold their phones in one hand while texting with the other. Hunching over your keyboard can also be caused by poor ergonomics while sitting in front of your computer. You should stretch your shoulders out to give them a break and exercise forward, and backward shoulder rolls regularly.
4. HEADACHES
You may also get headaches if you look at your computer monitor with your head too far forward over your shoulders or if you look at your mobile phone display with your head tilted down. Either of these positions will cause your head to be unbalanced, resulting in headaches. Instead, try raising your phone to eye level and changing your seat so youâre sitting upright and your computer monitor is at eye level.
5. STIFFNESS
Inflammation and stress to your connective tissues and neck muscles can result in your tissue stiffening or hardening, thereby limiting your neckâs rotation.
6. WEAR AND TEAR ON THE SPINE
The more people rely on their handheld electronic gadgets, the more their postural health suffers as they move into their default posture for long periods every day. It can lead to degeneration, wear, and strain of the cervical spine over time. It could also necessitate spine surgery.
7. LONG-TERM COMPLICATIONS
Long-term complications, similar to whiplash injuries, could include tension headaches, herniated discs in your cervical spine, and neck sprains. Initially, your muscles will have to work hard to keep your head upright. When your muscles contract, they put extra pressure on your discs, causing them to wear down faster. Your weaker discs may expand or even explode as a result. If a ruptured disc compresses one of your nerves, you may have arm weakness, pain, or numbness, which may necessitate surgical intervention.
8. ABNORMAL CURVATURE
If left untreated, the forward bending caused by staring at your screen could become permanent. In addition, if you do not exercise caution, you may develop an irreparable hunchback appearance.
EXERCISES THAT COUNTERACT THE EFFECTS OF TEXT NECK
Although you may not be able to avoid glancing down at your phone, there are exercises you can take to relieve some of the tension in your neck and back and prevent larger problems from developing.Â
Also, because individuals are so dependent on their phones, they lose a note of their posture since they are mentally immersed in their work. If you spend a lot of time in the text neck posture, you must spend at least as much time, if not more, in the opposite position to keep your neck balanced.Â
These exercises help to loosen up tight muscles in the chest, restore postural alignment, and improve muscular stabilizer action. Meanwhile, you can visit the chiropractor from Trident Health and Chiropractic in Spartanburg to help you with these exercises. Letâs have a look at them below;
1. CHIN TUCK
Chin tucking is a simple exercise that may be done at your desk, at a stoplight, or even at a work meeting. This easy stretch can help you become more aware of your spine while also strengthening the muscles in your neck, which will help you pull your head back into alignment.Â
To do so:Â
Begin by sitting tall in a chair with your chin parallel to the ground.Â
Draw your head and chin back softly, as if youâre producing a double chin, without tilting your head in any direction.Â
Make sure your head isnât pushed back. A stretch should be felt along the back of your neck.
Imagine a cord pushing your head higher and actively elongating your neck, as if you were a robot.Â
Push the base of your skull away from the base of your neck with your hands.Â
Hold this position for three deep breaths while keeping your jaw relaxed.Â
For a better result, release your chin forward and repeat the action.
2. EXAGGERATED NOD
By drawing your shoulders down and back and boosting neck mobility, the exaggerated nod counterbalances the downward/forward head position. To do so
Sit with your head directly above your torso in a proper upright posture. Yes, nod your head to check the strength and flexibility in your topmost neck joint (your skull connecting to your cervical spine).Â
Maintain a little double chin by holding the bottom of the nod.Â
Do not nod so forcefully that you lose your breath or your chin becomes stuck in your throat.Â
Hold for 10 seconds before releasing carefully.
3. CHEST OPENING
The goal of this exercise is to induce a slow and moderate lengthening of the chest and shoulder muscles, which is particularly efficient in counteracting the effects of a stiff neck. Youâll need two six-inch yoga blocks or two stacks of books, each six inches tall, to complete this practice.
Place your hands behind your head and sit or stand.Â
Squeeze your shoulder blades back and open your elbows out to the side.Â
In the front of your chest, you should feel a stretch.Â
Raise your head and shoulders backward gently to tilt your upper middle back to accentuate this.Â
Hold for 10-20 seconds before releasing carefully.
4. SPINAL DECOMPRESSION/POSTURAL CORRECTION
Decompression of the Spine helps to relieve pressure on the joints and nerves. This is accomplished by widening the gap between your vertebrae or the gap between your vertebrae and nerves.Â
Begin by sitting on the edge of your seat for this exercise.Â
Separate your legs and turn your feet out at a 45-degree angle.Â
Then, with your palms facing front, hang your arms lightly at your sides.Â
In a neutral stance, sit up straight.Â
Return your head to a position where it is directly over your shoulders.Â
For a better result, take around 10 deep breaths in and out and repeat the process.
5. BOW POSE
The bow pose opens the shoulders from the front and strengthens them from the back, which helps combat slouched shoulders.Â
Lie down on your stomach with your chin on the ground and your hands on each side.Â
Bend your knees and bring your heels as near as you can to your buttocks.Â
Grab your outer ankles with both hands as you reach backward.Â
Lift your heels toward the ceiling as you inhale, lifting your chest, thighs, and upper torso off the mat.Â
Lift your heels higher while maintaining your tailbone pressed against the mat to increase the stretch.Â
Draw your shoulders away from your ears and look forward. Hold this stance for ten breaths.Â
Exhale and slowly lower your thighs, followed by the rest of your body, to the floor.
HOW TO PREVENT TEXT NECK
Below are ways you can prevent text neck;
ADJUST THE WAY YOU HOLD YOUR PHONE
Bring the screen up to eye level to avoid slouching forward or raising your head too high. Maintain a neutral spine with your ear in line with your shoulders instead. This will prevent you from maintaining a forward-head posture for too long.
TAKE BREAKS FROM YOUR PHONE
Even if itâs only two to three minutes every hour, taking frequent breaks from the screen can help. My first recommendation for preventing and alleviating text neck is to break the habit of looking down, but most people are unlikely to do so.Â
Instead, chiropractors advise that people try to intentionally disconnect from their phones. Use a sticky note or set a reminder on your phone or computer. These minor details can make a big difference.
DOWNLOAD THE TEXT NECK APP AND GIVE IT A SHOT
In most smartphones, thereâs a Text Neck app that gives you real-time feedback on your posture via a green or red light. A vibration or buzzer reminder is also available to alert you when youâve reverted to old habits.
PRACTICE YOGA FOR 10 MINUTES
Yoga is the most effective treatment and prevention for neck and back pain because it improves movement patterns, develops body awareness, and involves breath practice. Neck pain is caused by a muscular imbalance, such as tight rhomboids, which can be corrected with daily yoga sessions. The activities listed above, as well as 10 minutes of yoga per day, can make a difference.
TREATMENT FOR TEXT NECK & NECK PAIN IN SPARTANBURG
The effect of text neck on the body is something that shouldnât be overlooked because it can cause other underlying issues in the body if left untreated. Itâs advisable to visit Dr. Kyle Garbart or the chiropractor in Spartanburg if you notice you feel pains around your cervical spine region. However, some exercises have also shown to be very effective in treating this condition, and the ones outlined above are all very effective if done properly.
