Attention: There are lots of wonderful trollhunters fanfics that exist that may not be listed here. I apologize if I may have forgotten your’s or simply don’t know about it. I also apologize if you believe you are in the wrong category. I just made this off the fly. You’re welcome to add it to the list in a reblog.

Alternate Universe/What-ifs/Fix its

Blue Moon Rising by Eclipsia. In Progress. Currently one of the longest fics in the fandom. Canon pairings. Alternate Universe where an Amnesiac Half-Changeling Jim works for the Janus Order and accidentally becomes the Trollhunter. A redo of Trollhunters canon with a much sassier Jim. Here.

Labyrinth by Ch4rl13Sm1th. @ch4rl13sm1th. Complete. Jlaire. Another half changeling Jim that is going through Troll puberty and gets taken under the wing of Strickler. It’s very sweet and funny and Jim ends up becoming the Goblin King, so if you like the movie Labyrinth you’ll get a kick out of this. Here.

The Fantastic Upheaval Series by a3rie. What-if series where Barbara discovers a troll in her basement, leading her to learning about troll society. Strickler and Draal are hilarious in this. Barbara’s also pretty darn badass. Here.

Text Ya Later, Trollhunter by lovevalley45 @lovevalley45. A texting fanfic where everyone is on group chat and it is hilarious and chaotic and just plain fun. Shipping galore. One of my favorite texting fics. Here.

Nana’s Troll Husband AU by Im_the_king_of_the_ocean @im-the-king-of-the-ocean. AU series where Nana married a troll and their son married a sorcerous and it’s all super fun and a rollercoaster of angst and fluff. Here.

Withhold by Paw_07. An Unbecoming AU where Jim using a frying pan against Bular and it just gets better from there. Seriously, if you’re in this fandom and you haven’t read this, you really should. There is so much golden moments in this fic I might need to open a mine. Here.

Eclipsing Daylight by EarthboundJedi. @earthboundpenguin. Another AU where instead of two weeks, Jim spends six months in the Darklands and is both emotionally and physically scarred by it. If you like angst, then hop aboard this feels train of a fanfic.Here.

Under Sunlight by quietpagan. An AU where a young Jim rescues a certain six-eyed troll from turning into stone in his backyard. It is so cute and adorable and the characterization is truly well-done. Not completed yet and it hasn’t been updated in a few months but what is there is worth a read. Here.

Becoming The Mask by moonlit_wings. Holy cheese, @magic-and-moonlit-wings, definitely recommend this fanfic because its one of the only ones out there right now with actual Changeling Jim. This isn’t regular ol’ cinnamon bun Jim but actual Changeling Jim who knows he’s a Changeling and it’s just pure awesome. Here.

If The World Was Upside-Down by lazypolymath. In an alternate universe where, back during the war between humans and trolls, humans were almost completely wiped out, Jim is still chosen as the first human Trollhunter. Pretty good. Def rec. Here.

Unbecoming by curry-llama. Super good fic and the writer is friendly too. Unbecoming episode au where Merlin doesn’t fix things so Jim is left to figure it out. Lots of drama and oh it’s awesome. Here.

Self Determination by appending_fic @appendingfic. Canon divergent fanfic series. Goes places canon does not. At one point they fight nazis. If you like the writer’s other works you’ll like this. Here.

Summer Happy Fun TIme by Ch4rl13sm1th and Eclipsia. Arcadia Beach wasn’t the most popular tourism destination on the Big Island, but it did have one thing that set it apart from the rest. Jim just wanted to spend his summer underneath video games and teenage angst. It’s not like he could enjoy the sun anymore anyways. And then his mom brought two trolls home. Then, somehow, he got roped into being Trollmarket’s new junior Life Guard. Maybe his summer wouldn’t be so bad after all. Here.

Post Season 3

Changes by Eclipsia. One-shot. Complete. Jim and Claire deal with the changes in their life after the battle. (Slightly Post Season 3 Finale). Jlaire fic. Very cute. Here.

Down the Road by @im-the-king-of-the-ocean. The adventures of the New Heartstone Expedition headed to New Jersey and everyone left behind Arcadia, told to each other by text updates sent via new magical phones (courtesy of Merlin and Blinky). Def rec. Here.

Strong for Us by HayaMika. Everything finally catches up to Jim all at once and he’s struggling to control himself. Good one shot. Hits you in the feelz. Here.

Adjustments by Werepirechick. @chillahead-bridge. Good fic that focuses on Jim after season 3 as he gets used to being a half-troll and how it affects his relationships. Here.

Arcadia or Bust by P-Artsypants. @p-artsypants. Turns out New Jersey’s Heartstone wasn’t as big as they thought. Time to turn the bus around. Very fun. Another rec. Here.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Trollmarket by Sailorfish. Series of fics that deal with pre and post season 3. Good dialogue. Characters are pretty in character too. Def rec. Here.

OC Centric

What Falls and What Grows by quietpagan. @quietpagan Another fic by this awesome writer. It’s an OC changeling Trollhunter fic and pretty long. Not finished yet but the writing is wonderful. One of the few OC-centric fics I follow honestly. Here.

Burning Bridges by xerios. It’s about an art student wanders into the back area of the museum, loses their midterm to goblins and gets a job offer. Bular/OC. Here.

A Night Owl’s Guide to Trolls by Lusey. @zonbiconbi. Ongoing. An artist accidentally gets into the world of Trolls. Takes place during Jim’s time in the Darklands. In character cast. Def rec. Here.

In Over my Head by TheWriter’sMistress. @decemberfame Ongoing. It’s about a girl called Winona Williams who moves to Arcadia Oaks, California with her Aunt Barbara and cousin Jim. It’s pretty good. Go check it out. Here.

Character Centric

In the Dead of Night by OhLook Balloons. @ohlookballoons It’s a Bular redemption fic. Bular AU where he doesn’t jump out of the canal and instead floats off to a new adventure. Lots of fluff. Def rec. Best Bular fic out there. Here.

The Night Doctor by Eclipsia. Mostly Barbara POV. Set in same universe of Love in Strange Places. Barbara is a doctor who is frequently visited by a strange changeling boy who is oddly familiar. Here.

Young Atlas by cornerandchair. Jim had never really considered the weight he bore or the implied curse that came with a nickname like “Young Atlas”. Now he thinks he understands, and he knows what he has to do. Season one Jim-centric one shot. Here.

Trollhunters who aren’t Jim

Light Clad by Ch4rl13Sm1th. Can’t rec enough. In my opinion it’s the best Trollhunter Claire fic out there. Lovely visuals and a good take on the story. It goes with Labryinth, which is from Jim’s side. Here.

Changing Light by 1_My_Life_Is_Kaput_1 @eurydykakaput Love, love, love this story. The main story line is Jim finding out that his stepdad, Walter Strickler, is the Trollhunter and a Changeling. Here.

Days in the Sun by seagullandcroissant. @seagullandcroissant. Otto Scaarbach finds the Amulet of Daylight and becomes the next Trollhunter. It’s a beautiful disaster. Go read it. Here.

Hodgepodge by Eurydyka_Kaput @eurydykakaput. Roleswap with changeling!Barbara and her son Jim. Strickler is human and Draal is the Trollhunter. Def rec. Here.

Dawn’s First Light by Eclipsia. One shot but part of a series. She’s the Trollhunter. He’s the enemy. But love has blossomed in stranger places. Trollhunter!Claire. Jlaire. Here.

Traitor by im_the_king_of_the_ocean. Barbmura. Trollhunter!Barbara. They write Barbmura really well. Like, if you’re looking for Barbmura, 9 times out of 10, this writer’s got you covered. One of the rarepairs I like because of the author. They’ve got more. Check out their other writings too. Here.

Any Other Way by Trolololoz @trololololololooz. Seriously good artist and a big Jeves writer. Trollhunter!Steve. Jim/Steve goodness. My favorite jeves writer. Check them out. Here.

Dark/Angst

The Sunwarrior: Origins by IncognitoPhenomenon. If you’ve seen any of @infographicisminetocommand‘s awesome Toby-angst art, you’ll know about Sunwarrior!Tobes. It’s only a few chapters in but they definitely capture the essence of el Tobio. Here.

Fallen Too Far by Eclipsia. Morgana!possessed Claire/Jim. Based on Daylighteclipsed’s idea. Jim can’t bring himself to kill her. Even though Morgana and Claire have merged he still believes he can save her somehow. So he falls. It’s dark and will only get darker from here. Here.

Rage on against the dying light by mysterytwin. Good. Pre-season 3. “You are the first human Trollhunter,” they tell him, but they never say why. Def rec. one-shot. Here.

Lasting Repercussions by Em_the_lion. During his escape from the Darklands, Jim is touched by the power of the Decimar Blade. And though, with the help of his friends, they are all able to escape through the bridge, the Trollhunters may find that the mysterious weapon may have more serious effects than they could ever imagine… Picks up near the end of “Homecoming”. An au in which Blinky, Aaarrrgh!, and the rest of the gang arrive to Jim’s aid just a few seconds too late. Probable Troll!Jim. Def rec. Looks interesting. Here.

What Makes a Man by Etheostoma. Jim doesn’t quite know how to define his relationship with his history teacher. Gunmar is dead and his armies have been vanquished–and now one Walter Strickler co-habitates with his mother and washes his laundry. A chance encounter with Jim’s father during an afternoon out brings out long-ignored emotions in both of Barbara’s men, and Jim and Walter realize they have more in common than a connection to Trollkind and an affinity for flatware fencing. Lady of the Lake by Eurydyka_Kaput. Morgana!Barbara. It’s short but good. I enjoyed how deliciously angsty it was for everyone. Here.

Fluff/Hurt/Comfort/Family/Friendship

It’ll be Fine by estelley.bear. @estelleybear. Very sweet friendship fic. Claire and Toby are both hurt both Jim’s decision to go to the Darklands alone and decide that holding back pent-up emotions aren’t the best way to deal with things. One-shot centered around Claire and Toby’s friendship. Takes place between the end of season 1 and before season 2. Def rec. Here.

Supplanter by Unstoppable Cyborg. @yellowmagicalgirl While in the Darklands, Jim saw someone who shouldn’t exist. Interesting take on changeling!jim. Here.

A New Becoming by NerdofSpades. @nerdofspades Complete. Short but good, it is a nice read. Jim accidentally transforms while fighting Gunmar alone and goes to Strickler for help.Here.

Before Dusk by Eclipsia. A boy without a name, a father without a son, and a Changeling without her damn breakfast. Half!changeling kid jim. Here.

Stricklake

The Strawberry Shortcake Chronicles by FoxLight. In short, the Stricklake series for any fan of the pairing. Description is phenomenal and the characters feel so alive and well-rounded. Seriously, go read this series. Here.

Cultic Epithets of the God Janus (disputed) by niemals_etwas. A divergent au where strickler meets barb a decade or so before canon. Writing is wonderful. They truly have a way with words. Definitely recommend. Here.

Fallout by Meg13. Lol, I really hope this person updates. Essentially, Jim is Walter and Barbara’s one night stand. The writing is great and I love the dialogue too. Def rec. Here.

In fact, as years went on, she found their conversations to be some of the most refreshing she ever had. [an au in which Barbara has an imaginary friend and then he stops being imaginary]. The Beauty of the Sky by FanaticFangirl2602 @fanaticfangirl2602. Oneshot. It’s a short yet sweet Jlaire fanfic and it’s just fluffy and sweet and nice. Here.

Thanks for Loving Me by LunarEclipse. Becoming a troll, it was nothing like Jim imagined. It hadn’t really hit him until the battle was over when all the adrenaline had left his veins and he had gotten a decent night’s sleep. Even then no matter how calm and safe he felt it took the armor almost four months to melt away from his skin, he was going through that much emotional turmoil. Claire and Blinky were truly his saviors in the end. Here.

Love, we hold on together by njckle. Embarking on a pilgrimage with bunch of belching trolls can be a handful, but Jim and Claire find moments to themselves. Here.

It was always you by Kiwibirdlafayette. @kiwibirdlafayette. Human Roleswap AU. King of the Blaaarrrggghh art. Blinkous Galadrigal, Arcadia Oak’s local genius and youngest college graduate, was convinced he was fated to a life of solitude. He would spend the rest of his life studying old books and hunting for the rumored trolls in this town. But, with a recovering ex-gang member is reintroduced into his life, he finds that perhaps he was wrong. Nice, nice, nice. Here.

Family History In The Context of the Parallel Development of a Relationship as Told Through a Trollmarket Dwelling by TheSoulOfAStrawberry. Even for trolls, the orthodox thing to do was to fall in love, move in together and in the chaos, start a family. Blinky and Aarrrgghh!!!, a scholar-cum-conspiracy-theorist and a pacifist ex-general Krubera living in a cave far too small for the both of them, let alone the mountains of books they lived alongside, were never too orthodox. However, in retrospect, they had indeed started a family. Just in an un-orthodox way. Here.

Public Displays of Affection: for Dummies! by SnorkleShit. When Steve stops caring about maintaining their cover, Eli thinks it couldn’t get better than that. The universe, mysteriously full of teen romance movie tropes, thinks otherwise. Here.

Moments Like This by AngelTheFourthDragneelBrother. Following right after the last episode of season two “In the Hall of the Gumm-Gumms”. Steve and Eli have numerous questions for Jim (mostly Eli obviously) and Jim, of course, gets fed up with the non-stop questions, but even more so he gets fed up with Steve and Eli’s arguing. Here.

For my Glory, where do I stand by zero_paradise. Elijah is a Creepslayer and Steve a part time Creepslayer and Trollhunter, of course he can do it all. He’s proud to see once enemies stand shoulder to shoulder, the heroes of Arcadia are his friends. He knows who the trolls really depend on, that the Z on his helmet means only something to him. Yet he wants to answer a call. When a chance discovery falls into his lap Eli may have found the very way to bring the Creepslayer name to the forefront. Here.

Birthday Candles by ummmmm. A Jim/Claire/Toby fanfic if you squint. AU future fanfic where the gang is middle aged and Jim questions whether he is aging or not like his friends and its sweet, angsty, and wonderful. Here.

And Jim isn’t the only one who’s antsy to see their missing family members returned. Blinky, no matter how many centuries pass, will always eagerly await a reunion with his bonded partner. Here.

Like Father, Like Son by Most Fantastical. It’s not pairing centric but someone told me there’s some Blinky/Nomura, which sounds totes cool. Post Series. Getting accustomed to all the changes is going to take a long time, a lot longer than six months. Especially when a familiar face shows up with some not so familiar history, and one last experiment of Morganna still lingers in the world. Jim is afraid, Merlin is defensive, Blinky is determined. And an ancient king is crazy town banana pants furious. I’m told it is a really good fic. Here.

Dawn on the Third Day by Nerves. Strickrot (Strickler/Angor Rot). Stricklander is growing impatient with how long it is taking Angor Rot to do his relatively simple task of killing the fleshbag Trollhunter. Giving him a deadline, tensions rise between them, and memories of their mostly separate yet parallel pasts are revisited through the complex feelings that they have for one another. Here.
