Bi- vs Pansexual

Imma be honest. I call myself bi but I really don't get the difference between bi- and pansexual. I am not opposed to dating someone trans or gender fluid, but if that is what makes a person pan then I feel like most people would be pan even if they identify as straight or gay. Like if a gay person dates a gender fluid person, does that make them pansexual? Help me!!
