RIP The Legendary Neal Adams. I met him numerous times. He was a good supporter of my 3D work. If he saw me standing in the line to talk with him at a convention, he would call me up to the front to see what 3D I had along to show & also perform a magic trick. The 3Dof his classic BATMAN #251 cover has been on consignment display at his Crusrty Bunker Comics & Toys store in Burbank, CA for a few years. In between complex client orders I like to do something fairly quick and easy for myself if only to show at upcoming conventions I might attend. AIRBOY #5 3D Shadowbox Paper Sculpture 2021 This is the second 3D I made of this cover. Based on the original art by Dave Stevens Published by Eclipse Comics in 1986. This post was originated on Instagram. Deja Vu? Just completed this 3D for client Robert Windom., the first of 2 he has ordered. The next one will be of the classic WOW! splash page from Dave Stevens' early Rocketeer story. Back in the 80's I previously did this cover in 3D for the Eclipse Comics offices. After they were taken over by IDW, it was give to Dave Stevens' sister Jennifer. In 2018 she sent it to me for restoring color fading & reframing. I posted photos & videos of it in early 2020, hence this new one might be Dejan Vu.When Robert went to visit her & saw the restored 3D, he contacted me to remake one for himself with Jennifer's ok (since she now had the first one, I gave her the option of having the only one I made). This was made using 16 color laser prints scanned from the original comic book cover I had. SMOKING SHIELDS Logo 3D Shadowbox Paper Sculpture 2020 Original artist unknown For client Guillo Larregui, former NYPD officer now in NV. Apparently he has formed a club with other former NYPD officers there. This 3D was ordered in November, 2019 and 3D work completed in February. It used about 15 prints of the digital image that Gil sent me and about 25 hours stretched over several months in rotation with other projects.  Due to the pandemic, framing was postponed until August. It has now been shipping to Gil in Las Vegas.

COMIC-CON ART SHOW ARTIST BIO POST Comic-Con Art Show: Todd R. Reis Art Description: 3D Shadowbox Art Paper Sculptures Bio: Since 1973 Todd has been making 3D shadowbox paper sculptures primarily of comic book covers, but also prints, photos, and posters for numerous comic professional artists, writers, publishers, and collectors. Most of the 3Ds made are client Custom orders.   Currently the 3Ds are made from color laser prints oh heavy paper using either a direct scan of a printed image or one downloaded from the internet.  All 3D work is cut by hand with an Xacto knife and uses Balsa wood, & other materials.

If interested send Todd some images for his opinion & estimates. Keep in mind, the more complex & detailed the original image, the more time consuming & costly the 3D is to make. Costs on recent orders have ranged from $300 to $4000. On average, most 3Ds run about $700 to $1200 plus framing & shipping.    Work  usually takes 2 or 3 months and done in rotation with other projects unless there is a tight deadline. He tries to work with most budgets, but if on a tight budget, keep the image simple. Framed THE PHANTOM Panel (B&W) 3D #2 2018 Original art by Sy Barry Client Lyn Anderson Yes, you've seen one like this before! One of the easier 3Ds to make. This is the third 3D I've made of this image, the second one in B&W. Lyn Anderson, a supporter of my 3D work who runs the Raleigh Comic Book Show every few months in NC, commissioned it back in July after seeing the first one I made for Jaime Diaz. They are not mass produced. All work is done by hand with an Exacto knife & other materials. It's not very likely I will be doing this image in 3D again. And so this happened! Followers of mine know I've recently made 3D shadowboxes of the classic THE PHANTOM panel image originally drawn by Sy Barry. Jamie Diaz & Lyn Anderson had ordered 3Ds of the black & white image and James Michael Sigler of the color version. The other day, James & Jamie went to visit Sy Barry at his home in Long Island and showed him the color one! Although Sy had seen the photos & video I had posted, now he got to see the color 3D with his own eyes! According to James: "Sy Barry really appreciated the intricate craftsmanship of your work and the depth of the forest. He also liked the curves in the arms." Sy then added his signature to the back of the 3D next to mine! Thanks Sy! I believe they will all be attending the NY Comic Con. This is the third 3D shadowbox paper sculpture I've made of this Phantom image by Sy Barry, and the second one in B&W. This one was commissioned by Lyn Anderson from NC. Upon doing the first one in B&W for Jaime Diaz, I had no idea it would be so popular. The second one was in color for James Sigler.
