【18 Concept Pitch x Northshore Museum】
Pitch:
Innovation, art and nature are the three original intentions for creating the Northshore Museum. Have you ever seen a museum built on the wharf? In Northshore Museum, you can not only learn about the history and culture of the Northshore, also enjoy the leisure and beauty of the Brisbane River. Northshore Museum will be divided into four distinct areas, they are art fountain, viewing platform, glass building and greenhouse. Both glass building and greenhouse are indoor pavilions. The glass building will become a landmark. It will be created by translucent and converted shipping containers with transparent glass floor and 3D advertising screen. The inspiration of greenhouse which came from the indigenous culture. It is an artificial rainforest where some vegetation and canoe designs will be showed in this pavilion. The aim for Northshore Museum is to take visitors into an immersive experience or enjoy a visual feast. This will be a unique adventure, carry your outfits, let’s go together! ~

【17 Key Criteria】
【Feasibility, Sustainability & Enduring Significance】
*Does my concept fall within the client’s budget and timeframe?
It may not fall within the client’s budget and time frame. The budget for my concept may exceed the prescribed limit. The whole museum will be divided into four areas, they are music fountain, viewing platform, greenhouse and glass building. So that it is belonging to a kind of large-scale concept, and it will need a very large design project. If the budget out of scope, the glass building will be replaced by the transparent container architecture. But my suggestion is that to keep the 3D advertising screen, because it will become Northshore’s feature.
*Is my project a one-off, or can it be refreshed, adapted, delivered in stages, or on multiple occasions?
Northshore Museum will be refreshed and adapted.
*Is it sustainable (environmentally and economically) and withstand the test of time?
Northshore Museum will become a sustainable architecture. When it opens, visitation will be stable and balanced. More than half of the building materials will be provided by Northshore locally. These materials are environmentally friendly and recyclable. Moreover, they are easy to be adjusted and moved.

【17 Key Criteria】
【Audience Engagement, Ethics and Diversity】
*What is the demographic at Northshore and who are its key stakeholders?
Residential development has occurred at the western and eastern extremities. Empty nesters may be higher asset rich demographic. In addition, professionals or retired professionals may have higher economic status. Target audiences of Northshore are divided into six types, they are new residents, current residents/workers, destination visitors, tenants and developers. Meanwhile, most of them are empty nesters, young families and young professionals. EDQ is the majority landowner, master developer and the development assessment authority for the Northshore Hamilton PDA who are also working with a range of stakeholders to deliver this major urban renewal project. These stakeholders may include businesses whose operations are changing and progressing with 21st century technologies / established businesses looking for large scale head offices.
*Who is my target audience?
Destination visitors are my target audience, and this group is including locals (families, professionals and empty nesters), locals (interstate or international visitors) and visitors (national and international).
*How does my project actively engage, sustain, and grow this audience?
If Northshore Museum is created successfully, it will become one of the most famous buildings in Brisbane. When tourists visit a city, they may really want to know about the history and culture of this city. Moreover, the museum is near the river edge which means they will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Brisbane River.
*How can I engage local Indigenous and culturally diverse communities effectively and ethically?
Firstly, designers should engage local indigenous before creating the museum so that they may learn more about indigenous history and culture. Secondly, the greenhouse area of Northshore Museum is also be called indigenous history pavilion which aims to produce empathy with local indigenous. This pavilion will be created into an artificial rainforest, and there will be many indigenous vegetation planted in here. At the same time, some indigenous designs will also be showed in this pavilion such as canoe, netting and basketry.
*Why would visitors want to (re-)visit Northshore to engage with my project?
If we want visitors revisit Northshore, the concept must be memorable. This concept not only represents Northshore’s history, also contains the diversified arts. The most important is that I hope my concept can take people to an immersive experience.

【17 Key Criteria】
【Originality】
*Does my concept engage with and draw attention to Northshore’s distinctive features (geographic, historical, physical, cultural etc.)?
My creative concept totally conforms to Northshore’s distinctive features. Firstly, the aim for the museum is to show the history and culture of the Northshore. Actually, despite this concept uses many new or digital technologies, it still includes some natural elements such as the greenhouse and timber seating areas. Northshore Museum will be built on the wharf which will underscore Brisbane’s reputation as a ‘River City’ and deliver an immersive experience to people.
*How does my concept compare to existing creative projects (through your research identify similar projects at Northshore, in Queensland, interstate or overseas)?
My concept may more immersive and impeccable. The details and compares are written in the industry research (see industry research part).
*Does the client need me to produce my project (ie. what is my creative contribution)?
The creative concept is following the client brief. It is energetic, progressive, creative and grounded, even it is encouraging interaction with our target audiences. The most important is that it will not only increase visitation to Northshore, also improve the diversity of audiences to the site. We advocate that the combination of nature and technology. At the same time, Northshore’s history and culture need to be remembered by people so that Northshore Museum will be sustainable.
*Can my project be produced by people not working in the creative sector)?
Not necessarily, it has to be produced and designed by some professionals.

【17 Key Criteria】
【Responds to the site & client brief】
*How does my creative concept respond to, and activate the site?
My creative concept is a history museum, and it will contain Northshore’s story, culture, art and so on. Definitely, it is not an ordinary museum which means both its appearance and design will be connected with the whole community and new technologies. I believe that it will attract many audiences from some unique elements such as art fountain, 3D advertising screen, transparent building and artificial rainforest.
*Does it reflect the client’s objectives, vision and brand?
Northshore aims to inspire new ways of seeing and interacting with the world. Firstly, 3D advertising screen is a good example which will not only provide our visitors a memorable visual feast, also hint us that the development of technology is advancing constantly. Secondly, we are living in this natural and ecological environment so that I will set up some riverside binocles on the viewing platform for visitors to feel the natural environment and urban development of Brisbane.
*Does it fill a need/gap at Northshore, and if so how?
Up to now, the heart of the waterfront is undeveloped, so that it doesn’t have the highly activation. Fortunately, Northshore Museum will be built in the central area, and it will replace the old wharf. If the museum is developed, it will attract different kinds of audiences and enliven this area quickly. The museum will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. which means it will solve the problem of visitor flow volume. My idea is that visitors can visit the museum first and then enjoy delicious food in Eat Street. In this way, the tourist amount will be balanced per day.
*What value does it add to Northshore?
Northshore will become a famous scenic spot. Museum will not only help the Northshore increase the passenger flow, also share local cultural heritage with people. It will become a memorable location and attract return visitors.

【13 Industry research x Compare concept with similar project 2】
My second industry research is a riverside coffee shop which is located in Shanghai, China. Manner coffee is a chain corporation in China. The concept of this brand is ‘Make coffee part of your life’. Actually, I really like the design of this new store. Because it is very close to my creative concept such as a transparent house with the rooftop camping area. The appearance of this coffee shop is attractive, especially when all the lights are turned on at night, we can see the internal environment of the store clearly.
Compare with Manner Coffee, the Northshore Museum will be larger. Although No.3 pavilion is a double floor building, it has a higher foundation which means we can install some advertisements (LED display) or any other art elements on the exterior walls. My idea is that we will have a 360 degree + 3D holographic laser projection, and people can use eyes to feel Northshore’s art, culture and history. Even they can interact with some new technologies.
Although Manner Coffee was built near the river, it still not fit with the river completely so that customers have to site on the roof for enjoying the river view. Therefore, Northshore Museum will allow visitors to enjoy the beauty of the Brisbane river as far as possible (outdoor viewing platform and indoor glass house).

【12 Industry research x Compare concept with similar project】
My first industry research is called Seoul Wave Art Center, and it is located in Han River Park (South Korea). This is an innovative architecture, and the shape of center may be looked like a big ship which is stopped on the Han River. In here, people can not only visit art exhibitions, also drink coffee and view the river.
Different from my concept, the Seoul Wave is an extended wharf. If visitors want to get there, they must through a bridge which is greater than 150 meters. At the same time, the center almost fits with the river level. About my concept, Northshore Museum will be built on the existing wharf. Although it has the distance between the river level, my project will design the transparent glass floor for the museum which means visitors will clearly see the Brisbane river below them (they may seem to be walking on the river).
The Seoul Wave Art Center is a complete and large architecture. However, Northshore Museum is not only interlinked indoor and outdoor, also the entire museum will be divided into four themed pavilions which will conform to the feature of diversified. Meanwhile, No.3 (main) pavilion will be designed to be an entire transparent building for allowing visitors to enjoy river and Brisbane city.
