degrowth is terrible branding, but this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept.
degrowth is a critique of capitalist over-production and artifically produced scarcity while malthusianism blames population and assumes scarcity as natural.
degrowth calls for taking sectors of capital overproduction (in the imperial core) and redistributing that production for social needs, while also offering reparations to the global south countries the core has drained (trillioins), and in fact encourages self-determined growth in global south countries.
malthusianism advocates for population-control, sterilisation, while blaming poverty and famine on population-growth and the poor. it shifts the narrative away from one of extraction and capitalism to defending "natural" property relations, enclosure, and accumulation.
degrowth on the other hand exposes the limits of capitalist production, thus necessitates and advocates socialist revolution/redistribution in order to liberate capital and ecology for the working class.
albeit in my interpretation of the two.
its crazy that “degrowth” rhetoric has permeated presumably marxist circles to the point that people think its fash to be against malthusianism

craaazy story
thinking about sholem schwarzbard again. jewish anarchist who fought with the red army, got horrified by pogroms he saw being committed in ukraine by the white army and petliura, then escaped to france after getting sold out to the whites by another anarchist. met makhno there while in exile, got told by him not to kill petliura, did it anyways, then got denounced by all the maknovites as a soviet spy and not a real anarchist or one of them. won the trial anyways on the argument that petliura was a rat bastard mass murderer who deserved it. somehow anarchists today still lionize makhno and not him because i guess makhno's bandit-kulak state briefly sticking it to the soviets and prolonging the white terror is more impressive to them than someone who actually had some number of principles

This is a chollima. Have you heard of it? The chollima is a Korean mythical horse (if you don't feel like you get it, it's like a unicorn. But way cooler and better than a unicorn tho). It has wings and can fly great distances at lightning speed. To be specific, 400km in a single night! The chollima is a symbol of inspiration for the people of the DPRK (I'm not sure if it's also popular in South Korea currently but it does predate the separation), reminding them to work with steadfast efficiency, speed, and determination to achieve their goals and dreams as a nation.
It is also said that because of the speed of the chollima, it's not possible for any mortal to ride it. So people who are particularly passionate and hard-working, meeting and exceeding targets, so much so that it seems almost god-like? They're known as chollima riders.
The movement which turned the chollima into a national symbol encouraging the citizenship to meet the nation's economic goals began in the 1950's. But the new youth of the DPRK needed something to inspire them too. That's why...
Move over chollima, there's a new magic horse in town! (jk we still love u xoxo) It's known as the mallima, and it's just like the chollima but TEN TIMES faster.
Today, the chollima and it's twin sister the mallima inspire the people worldwide to work hard and efficiently to achieve their goals.
Are you a chollima rider?

CANTADA (Pick up lines) by Ferreira Gullar from his book 'Dentro da noite veloz' (Inside the fast night) from 1975.
PICK UP LINES
You are more beautiful than a silver ball
made of cigarette paper,
more beautiful than a clear puddle
in a hidden place.
You are more beautiful than a zebra,
than a jaguar cub,
than a Boeing 707 soaring through the air.
You are more beautiful than a blooming garden
by the sea in Ipanema.
You are more beautiful than a Petrobras refinery
at night,
more beautiful than Ursula Andress,
than the Palace of Alvorada,
more beautiful than the dawn,
than the sapphire-blue sea
of the Dominican Republic.
Look,
you are as beautiful as Rio de Janeiro
in May
and almost as beautiful
as the Cuban Revolution.
