Thunderbolts and Nihilism

SPOILERS AHEAD

The Thunderbolts is arguably one of the best marvel films to date, and in my opinion it is due to the handling of these broken characters and their ability to push through the meaninglessness.

DENIAL

They have all been happy, at some point in their life. Eventually, when things start to rip at the seams, they deny it. This is however— a very short period. Therefore.. Im not going to go into this lol.

Discovering Nihilism

There is a mutual agreement in the group, that being nothing matters.This is repeated numerous times throughout the film, Yelena expressing this an abundance of times. They all recognize the pattern, the cycle they are in. They wake up, they do the job assigned, they go home. Over and over again, they have nothing meaningful in their lives, nothing of importance that inspires them to continue moving forward. This is the void. The one they just push down further and further.

Existentialism

Well, it is clear how they got here, they consider themselves losers, people with nothing worth living for. But deep down they refuse it, they beg for something, anything to give them this hope. In Yelena’s conversation with Alexei, this is prevalent. She has nothing, she is nothing, what is the point? Why can’t she find something to live for?

Depression

This void consumes bob, it takes over his entire body, life. He allows himself to succumb to the meaninglessness of life. This void is secure, it is safe and it is all he will ever know. When found by the crew, he is encouraged to defeat this void. However, it is pointless, that is what the void wants, it craves this pain, agony. He is committing ego death, in a way.

Absurdism

In this, the thunderbolts* realize what is happening, they recognize that this is not what is meant to happen, if anything this is destroying bob further. So they fight back, they run to save him, to hold him back. One by one they latch onto Bob and the shadow, the void starts to fade.

Bob found his meaning in life. He found the people he can care for and he knows they will do the same. This is a mindset shared among the Thunderbolts*, they found a reason to push forward. They created meaning in this absurd, meaningless world.

A world that never had their best interest in mind, yet they found each other and found reason and purpose.

Some people were speculating on Twitter that Temari is pregnant in Blue Vortex and that that's why she hasn't been shown yet and why Shikamaru and Kankurou were worried about "upsetting her". Which, ofc I would love, BUT THEN people were saying that if she's pregnant, Shikamaru is definitely going to die because they would do him exactly like they did Asuma for some poetic Naruto storytelling bullshit and when I tell you I am now having a panic attack.

Art has been, in a way, destroyed by social media. Artists tend to stare at the numbers and surround their entire passion around it. What was once used as an outlet, has become this unrecognizable mangle of what once was love.

And it sucks. Art is meant to be something you can create because you love to do it and you enjoy doing it. Not for numbers.

Im gonna be completely honest, numbers used to dictate my life. I surrounded myself with them and it sucked.

It took a long time for me to finally step away from such and post just to post. Post because i felt like it, because why not? I created this, im proud of it, maybe someone else will feel the same, or maybe itll effect someone.

art is beautiful because it takes passion and love to come together, its the human soul expressing itself. in my opinion it takes courage to share it with the world, even if only few people see it.
