The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright 1999
"The Kids Aren't Alright" is a song by the American punk rockband the Offspring. It was released as the third single from the band's fifth studio album, Americana (1998), and became another top 10 hit on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song was played over the end credits of Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage, and was used in the opening scene of the 1998 scifi-horror film The Faculty and appears on the soundtrack album. It is also available as downloadable content for the Rock Band video game series. The music video, directed by Yariv Gaber, received heavy airplay on MTV and was nominated for Best Direction on the MTV Video Music Awards.
"The Kids Aren't Alright" is widely considered one of the Offspring's best songs. In 2021, Kerrang ranked the song number one on their list of the 20 greatest Offspring songs. The download version of Splinter (2003) included "The Kids Aren't Alright (Island Style)", an instrumental version of the song featuring ukulele and steel guitar. It is also available on the Enhanced CD version of the album under the folder MP3.
The song lyrics tell the stories of several people from a town and the problems they faced growing up. Dexter Holland wrote the song after visiting his home town, Garden Grove, California, and discovering many of his old acquaintances had faced serious problems. Holland stated: "The neighborhood looks like Happy Days, but it's really Twin Peaks", while guitarist Noodles said that the song subverted the idea that "you grow up hoping you and your friends have a bright future."
"The Kids Aren't Alright" received a total of 88,6% yes votes! Previous Offspring polls: #143 "Gone Away", #355 "Come Out and Play".

Bill Withers - Lovely Day 1977
"Lovely Day" is a song by American soul and R&B singer Bill Withers. Written by Withers and Skip Scarborough, it appears on Withers's sixth album, Menagerie (1977). Withers holds a sustained high E note towards the end which, at 18 seconds, is one of the longest ever recorded on an American pop song. The song was listed at number 402 on Rolling Stone's "Top 500 Best Songs of All Time" in 2021. Released as a single in late 1977, "Lovely Day" peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard R&B chart, number 30 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1978, and at number seven on the UK Singles Chart. "Lovely Day" has been re-released as a single in the UK at least twice since the song's first chart run; in 1987 the original version charted again at number 92 on the UK Singles Chart, while a remix done by Ben Liebrand, named the "Sunshine Mix", peaked at number four. This remix resulted in renewed enthusiasm for the Withers original, which incurred a surge in airplay into the early 1990s and came to firmly overshadow the radio presence of Liebrand's version.
"Lovely Day" has been covered and sampled numerous times since Withers' original recording. A version by American R&B and dance music group The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. featuring Michelle Visage was included on the soundtrack to the 1992 film The Bodyguard, starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. It reached number 34 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 44 on the Billboard R&B chart, in addition to spending three weeks atop the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in December 1992 and January 1993. The song also reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart and number two on the European Dance Radio Chart.
"Lovely Day" received a total of 83,3% yes votes! Previous Bill Withers polls: #536 "Lean on Me".

Boyz ll Men - End Of The Road 1992
"End of the Road" is a song by American R&B group Boyz II Men for the soundtrack to the 1992 film Boomerang, starring Eddie Murphy. It was released in June 1992 by LaFace, Arista and Motown, and is written by Babyface, Antonio L.A. Reid and Daryl Simmons. It spent a then record-breaking 13 weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, a record broken later in the year by Whitney Houston's 14-week number one hit "I Will Always Love You"; Boyz II Men would later match Houston's record with "I'll Make Love to You", which spent 14 weeks at number one in 1994, and then in 1995 reclaim the record with "One Sweet Day" (a duet with Mariah Carey) (poll #296), which spent 16 weeks at number one.
"End of the Road" was the number one single on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1992. It was also ranked by Billboard as the sixth most successful song of the decade 1990–1999. Internationally, it reached number one in Australia, the UK, and on the Hot 100 Eurochart, among others. The song won Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song at the 1993 Grammy Awards.
It did not originally appear on Boyz II Men's debut album, Cooleyhighharmony (1991). It was released after all singles from their debut had been released, and was their fifth single overall. However, Cooleyhighharmony was re-issued in 1992 and 1993 to include "End of the Road" due to the success of the single. In 1993 the Spanish version of the song "Al Final Del Camino" was released as a single. The song has been covered by various artists, including the Korean group BTS.
"End of the Road" received a total of 57,1% yes votes. Previous Boyz II Men polls: #243 "Hey Lover", #296 "One Sweet Day".

Ahh
Ha, stand tall for the beast of America
Lay down like a naked dead body
Keep it real, for the people working overtime
They can't stay living, off the government's dime
Stand tall for the people of America
Stand tall for the man next door
We are free in the land of America
We aren't going down like this
Come on now
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ha
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on people
What, stand tall for the beast of America
Lay down like a naked dead body
Keep it real, for the people working overtime
They can't stay living, off the government's dime
Stand tall for the people of America
Stand tall for the man next door
We are free in the land of America
We're not going down like this
Come on now
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on people
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on people
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ha
Come on now
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on people
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Come on people
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ooh ooh, oohoohooooohoo
Ha
I will be right to you
I will be right to you
I will be right to you
And together we can stand up to the beast
You see, suppression is a motherfucking prison
So they hand you the key to your cell
You've got to love your neighbour
Love your neighbour
And let your neighbour love you back
Come on now
Stand tall for the beast of America
Lay down like a naked dead body
Keep it real for the people working overtime
They can't stay living, off the government's dime
Stand tall for the people of America
Stand tall for the man next door
Cause we are free in the land of America
We ain't going down like this
Come on

Ozzy Osbourne - Mama, I'm Coming Home 1991
John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne was an English singer, songwriter, and media personality who co-founded the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 1968, and rose to prominence in the 1970s as their lead vocalist. Osbourne released thirteen studio albums, the first seven of which were certified multi-platinum in the US. In the 1980s, he drew controversy for his antics both onstage and offstage, and was accused of promoting Satanism by the Christian right. He reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions. He rejoined from 1997 to 2005, and again in 2012; during this second reunion he sang on the band's last studio album, 13 (2013), before they embarked on a farewell tour that ended in 2017. On 5 July 2025, Osbourne performed his final show at the Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham, having announced that it would be his last due to health issues. Although he intended to continue recording music, he died 17 days later, on 22 July.
Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. He was also inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame both solo and with Black Sabbath in 2005. He was honoured with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 12 April 2002 and Birmingham Walk of Stars on 6 July 2007. At the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, he received the Global Icon Award. In 2015, he received the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. Osbourne's wife and manager Sharon founded the heavy metal touring festival Ozzfest, which was held yearly from 1996 to 2010. In the early 2000s, he became a reality television star when he appeared in the MTV reality show The Osbournes (2002–2005) alongside Sharon and two of their children, Kelly and Jack. He co-starred with some of his family in the television series Ozzy & Jack's World Detour (2016–2018) as well as The Osbournes Want to Believe (2020–2021).
"Mama, I'm Coming Home" is a power ballad from his sixth studio album No More Tears, which first released on 17 November 1991. The single is Osbourne's only solo Top 40 single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 28. It also reached number 2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks. According to American Songwriter magazine, the lyrics are inspired by Osbourne's realization that he would be dead if he did not get sober, and the song is dedicated to his wife Sharon for staying with him during his crazier early days.
"Mama, I'm Coming Home" received a total of 67,9% yes votes! Previous Ozzy Osbourne polls: #407 "Mr. Crowley".
