35: I Saw You Lying In That Bed (Reprise)
I saw you lying in that bed And your head was surrounded in weak Sunlight coming in through the Dark curtains, and everything was Better.
I saw you lying in that bed And I left you there to start breakfast Because you're grumpy when you first Wake up early in the Morning.
I saw you lying in that bed And you're blinking open unfamiliar eyes That are slowly taking their place in your head and in my Heart.
I saw you lying in that bed And wanted to see your smile Everyday and the way your Teeth peak out when you see Me.
Alright, that is the 35th poem of the series! I hope you all have been enjoying it, and it you have consider leaving a like or reblogging it!

Quick Update
So the 35th poem of “Is This The Future We Tried to Fight?” is actually going to be delayed until Saturday 17th! The reason I’m delaying it is because it is the first poem I wrote for the Recovery Section and also probably my favorite of the series! It will have a fun announcement to go along with it which I hope will make up for the delay :D

34: Phone Call Home (Reprise)
“Hey mom, it is me. Yeah, he is doing just fine. Don't worry for us.”
And I didn't say, Of course she knows already, That we are happy.
Another short one, but there are only 4 more poems after this one before the series reaches its conclusion! So thank you all so much for reading and if you liked this poem please give it a like or reblog it, but please do not repost it to another source.

33: The Family Barges In
Despair It's the magenta of your four brothers immediately grilling you. It happens when your mother won't stop hugging me and preening. It sounds like laughter as pictures are snapped. And smells smoke as a casserole silently burns in the oven. Despair
Let me tell you writing the word “despair” in a positive way was not easy, but I really enjoyed it! So, I hope that all of you reading out there are enjoying this series as we slowly hurtle towards the end and if you are please leave a like or reblog this poem, but don’t repost to different sources.

32: A Not So Touching Reunion (Reprise)
My therapist is on my shit list Your eyes are full of doubt The guards are nervous at their posts And he sits smug behind the glass
Your eyes are full of doubt In this process or in me, I still don't know And he sits smug behind the glass And it feels like several steps backwards
In this process or in me, I still don't know But still we muddle through And it feels like several steps backwards Even though it's a little easier to breathe
But still we muddle through The guards are nervous at their posts Even though it's a little easier to breathe My therapist is on my shit list
Pretty much as soon as I started writing the Recovery section I knew there was going to have to be a meeting between the villain and hero sides. I’m pretty proud of how this poem turned out and how it brings us all one step closer to the ending of the story.

31: Here We Are
Nothing changes right away Not that I would have wanted it to The changes come instead day-by-day Rather than any major breakthrough
We sit in the mornings and drink our tea Your pinky laying over mine And just being allowed to exist a while We stay like that until it's nine
Just a few weeks until we're near Until we're wrapped up warm in bed Until it's fine to call you dear And stare until you cheeks are blotchy red
This is where we want to be Something to which we both agree
There is just something I really like about this poem! I hope you all have been enjoying it too. If you have consider dropping a like or giving it a reblog, but don’t repost it onto other sources.

30: I Spoke Up
Our friends leave just a little past three And you decide we should clean up Something to which I barely agree
Our lids are hanging low As we move through our apartment Cleaning in a way which is steady and slow
Finally we finish just a little past four With both of us yawning But at least able to see the floor
"It's good to have you here." It leaves my mouth before I think about it And your returning smile is something I hold dear
And although the night is no longer young If morning ever comes I may not be brave again To finally stop biting my tongue
This is the end of any attempt to fight Because I want to so badly tell you I box myself in to keep out all attempted flight And it is my tongue I cease to bite
Thank you all so much for coming this far and reading this series! If you are enjoying it consider dropping a like or reblogging this poem, but do not repost it to a different source!

29: They Arrive and It’s Enough
I help you out of the hospital as soon as you can move.
Who would want to stay in A hospital for more than an hour is beyond us both. And Negotiating is off The table, of course. So Eventually we escape back to our new apartment's Door.
The party poppers nearly send us both to Our early graves.
Reasonable, as there are at least Eight people squashed into our home to Welcome you back. Rightfully so, as you can finally come join us at work. And Ideally you could help me with The paper work, but I'm sure you'll Escape most of it.
This is the kind of Healing that you have been needing, and it is just Enough.
Perhaps this would have been harder had we not such good friends. And even though we are tired, we Stay up with Them through the night.
Posting these poems has been a wonderful experience and I can’t thank everyone enough for reading them! If you are enjoying the poems please consider dropping a like or reblogging a poem, but do not repost them to other sources.

28: The Bandages Come Off (Reprise)
Misery It smells like disinfectant as bandages come unraveled from dry eyes. It tastes like stale hospital coffee drying uncomfortably on top of my tongue. It sounds like my first name as your eyes flit over every surface of my face. It feels like my chest squeezing as you grin and it reaches your eyes. It looks like an unfamiliar pair of blue eyes that somehow still hold all of you. Misery is knowing there is no backing away from this feeling.
A second poem for today since the other one was short. Thank you everyone who has read this far and I hope you are enjoying yourselves! If you are please consider dropping this poem a like or reblogging it, but do not repost it to other sources.

27: Is This Redemption That I’m Seeking?
Today was a terrible day to fall back into old Habits. Especially ones from high school.
Daily I hear your laugh, but in the softer tones of Evening with only the sounds of old cartoons playing, it is my Eventual downfall. Perhaps even fated in all the ways I don't believe in.
Efficient in its ability to blindside me every time, and with No way to shake off this, almost blind, Devotion to you.
After a busy week it is feels good to be back and posting these poems! I hope you all have enjoyed these poems as much as I have posting them. If so please consider dropping me a like or reblogging this poem, but do not repost to other sources.

26: Time Caught Up
The new apartment is great And living this close to our friends is better Although life is starting to pick up again after the wait
Two hours before I go in for review One week before I'm okay to work again And two weeks before you go in for eyes that are new
The review goes well But we both know it would Cleared for work again is what they tell
Work is far from unsuccessful Even as I'm fielding in calls for other heroes It somehow manages to be less stressful
Your day for surgery comes up quickly And is gone in the few short hours it lasts You go back to fiddling with bandages layered thickly
The waiting is done As cheap coffee squeezes sluggishly through my veins And we listen to old cartoons play I didn't know it was supposed to be this fun
Thank you for reading this poem and if you enjoyed it please consider leaving a like or even reblogging it, but please do not repost this onto other sources.

25: Rage in Two Parts
Relief lasts all of three seconds Until the packing begins Because of course we have to move.
And it's not like this is the first time And it probably won't be the last, But I can feel your irritation From across the room, And it isn't subtle.
I know you never used to fight villains But it is tragic just how badly You are losing to boxes.
You stub your toes, And trip over misplaced items. Our friends who come and help Often wonder why I let you do your part alone. I tell them I like my fingers attached to my hand.
Although, I pack away the dishes While you are out with them, The perfect distractions.
"WHERE DID MY TOOTHBRUSH GO?" YOU PACKED IT AWAY WITH THE SHAMPOO! "WHO PUT THIS BOX HERE?" YOU, BECAUSE YOU SAID IT WAS IN THE WAY! "DID WE REMEMBER TO LOCK THE FRONT DOOR?"
Probably not the rage you were all expecting, but moving can be such a pain!
I hope y’all are enjoying the series to far, and if you are please consider giving this a like or a reblog. But please do not repost it onto other sources.

24: Silence in Two Parts
You know that we were good heroes? Outside the media's fame and Under the law.
That is something they said could never be taken away. Of course Our teachers somehow Knew best.
There is no taking back the past. We can Only begin to move on.
He has been robbed of the purpose he Earned and somehow that made him Remember. "Ourselves are the only thing we can control." Easier for him to Say with total control.
Anyone else Would see that this isn't the end. And who are we to defy destiny? You know, I don't really care.
And I don't care if I ever go back. No this isn't the end, but Don't we deserve this break?
Naturally I'm enjoying the time with him. Occasionally wandering the streets Without the pressure of revenge.
Why does it have to End so soon?
And if I could stay here forever, would I? Reanalyzing this over and over leads me to the same Eventual conclusion.
Already we are getting stir-crazy in our flat. Left with nothing to do, short of breaking the Law.
Though that does get a chuckle out of Him. At least we aren't going Through this boredom alone.
Relief comes from the ringing of a dusty work phone. Empathy comes from friends out in a distance city, who are Meaning to set up their own business. Aiding heroes doing their jobs Isn't the same, but Neither are we. So it's time to start.
Thank you all for being patient so as to get to this point and I hope you are enjoying the series! If you are please consider dropping me a link or even reblogging this poem! Just please don’t repost it onto other sources.

23: Medicine
I speak to my doctor at your behest. About ways to finally heal.
On the condition that you finally rest, And let someone else take the wheel.
I talk to them about my pain. Something they seem to understand.
As the words trickle out of my brain. Somehow I’m starting to feel better.
I explain about that night- Both of them this time.
About how nothing has felt quite right. Like my mind is full of grime.
Feeling the same as the power in my veins. Unclean, as my power of poison.
Then it was like broken chains. And I could finally breathe again.
Thanks for making it this far with me and I hope you are enjoying the series! If you enjoyed this poem please consider reblogging it or dropping me a like, but do not repost it onto other sources.

22: The Aftermath (Reprise)
As the sun is coming up, you finally wake to Bacon that I'm Cooking on the stove. You're not the least bit Deterred as you comb over Every bottle and sniff the lids For sour smells that would Give away anything amiss. When you Have been satisfied I'm surprised to Just get off with a warning not to do it again. Your Kindness Likely stems from your hope for My bacon. Not that I wouldn't have shared anyway. Over breakfast I tell you about yesterday's Proceedings and you fail to Quash any signs of your exuberance. I Really want to tell you that it makes me Smile, but it's been Too long to admit how Utterly Vexed you make me feel. What would I say, other than you make me feel like Xenon? Unresponsive until mixed with You and Zapped to life.
Let me tell you that finding and “x” word will always be harder than any other letter in the alphabet.
Thanks so much for making it this far in the series and if you liked this poem please consider giving it a reblog or dropping a like! Please do not repost it to other sources as it is my own original writing.

21: More Steps In The Right Direction
After I'm released I go back to the loft You're asleep on the couch and the TV is playing And in the evening light you look almost soft Except for the empty bottles sat down where you're laying
You have the bottles I didn't want you to find And knowing you as I do, probably a talk As it would help you settle your mind And to keep your tongue from getting in a deadlock
I let you sleep and gather them up The empty and even the full ones And any left over in a stale cup There are more than a few tons
I wash them down the drain And throw away the glass As they have nothing left for me to gain So for a while I think I'll pass
I cover you with a blanket and let you sleep And go to bed for once without having to count sheep
I really did enjoy writing this companion piece to “The First Steps in the Right Direction”, mostly because it felt like tying up that part of the narrator’s life that he was struggling with. Especially with getting rid of the bottles as a symbolic way of cleaning up the past.
Thank you all for reading this far in the series and if you are enjoying it please consider reblogging it or dropping me a like! But as always do not repost it onto other sources as it is my own original writing.
