ultimately jin guangyao's downfall was his own sentimentality. it's why i hate it when he's characterized as just 'selfish and power hungry' because it directly contradicts what we know from the text itself.

jgy left an insane number of people alive that were all loose ends directly leading back to his actions.

from sisi, to mo xuanyu, to bicao, not ensuring that xue yang was actually dead, and staying married to qin su rather than divorce her and put shame on her and her family.

he also could have, should have burned or otherwise completely disposed of nie mingjue rather than scattering his parts and keeping his head (that he canonically talks to) in his treasure vault.

sisi was the only person left alive that both knew where jin guangyao was born and how jin guangshan really died.

bicao was the only person left alive that knew qin su was (possibly) jin guangyao's half sister.

xue yang knew all about the demonic cultivation experiments and was testing out the yin tiger amulet.

mo xuanyu was the only person besides xue yang and jin guangyao that knew about the experiments.

as far as we know from the text, jin guangyao never cheated on qin su. he was entirely faithful to her despite living in an entirely sexless marriage. his treatment of her was so renowned that people praised their relationship.

jin guangyao did many selfish things, was very cruel and cold-hearted, was hungry for a sense of power that would offer him safety. he is a villain of the story (though i stand ground on jin guangshan being the ultimate villain) and he's not a good person.

but it's fundamentally flawed to say that's all he is. that he only ever thought of himself when we know that's just not true.

I think about this interaction a lot.

It kinda makes it clear how much comfort she takes in Wright and Maya doing stuff like having the poster up of the movie she likes or looking after Charley, and how much it's helping her cope with her own death. It sucks so bad that we barely get any lines for Mia during her part of the investigation in 1-3, we should've got to gossip more.
