I’m almost out of AtLA episodes and sad about it, so here’s a bunch of reacting to Sozin’s Comet III

Toph must have like, estimated there was an airship passing over them based on sensing Sokka pointing, because he really didn’t have time to communicate that with words. 

yeah metalbending is pretty unstoppable (is there an advanced kind of airbending I’m about to see at the end here?)

I can’t believe the captain remembered my birthday!

Hmm, I think it’s pretty easy to put Azula in this box of the one-dimensional evil sibling who doesn’t get a development/redemption arc because someone has to be the bad guy. But, in the long run, she’s had it worse than Zuko. Firelord Ozai’s approval is worse than banishment. She didn’t get Uncle Iroh, didn’t get pushed to ask that question of what she actually wanted beyond being what Ozai wanted. Instead, she molded her identity around it. And now slipping off that pedestal of perfection is terrifying and she can’t afford to trust anyone. (And now I want more backstory on how Iroh and Ozai ended up so different, darn it! Haven’t I seen people talking about comics?)

Actually, now that I think about it, Ozai is just doing the same thing Azula’s doing on a larger scale. He can’t trust the Earth Kingdom and doesn’t know how to deal with it, so he’ll just get rid of them. What he’s planning is absolutely horrific of course, but there’s something petty and childish about it, too. I don’t know how to deal with people so I will get rid of the people.

OH YEAH IROH GETS A POWER BOOST FROM THE COMET TOO

Sure, the comet gives rank and file firebenders a power boost - but they’re still not masters. They haven’t practiced anything close this. They’re sloppy. Iroh and Jeong Jeong however...

What the heck is up with Azula and Zuko’s mother, anyway? (Also the haircut was a big turning point for Zuko, hmm)

YIKES I guess Ozai is another master firebender. Doesn’t really need his rank and file

iroh gets a firebending boost and jeong jeong gets a firebending boost and ozai gets a firebending boost and aang gets a firebending boost. lotta fire in this episode.

I love Sokka’s character development in this show so much.

Ah, the Agni Kai is so fitting... HONOR (also, didn’t he try to challenger her earlier and she refused?)

And the second time we see someone redirect lightning is also perfect.

Azula and Zuko’s fight is so beautiful...the most dramatic Agni Kai ever, underneath the comet. Perfect for this melodramatic family. and the MUSIC

hhhhhhhh i though katara was just going to be okay because waterbending and watching aang learn I guess this episode has to end badly so there can be another one. (but this is also really nicely thematic for zuko)

aang might be ‘weak’ but azula and ozai are definitely unhinged at this point

i’m gonna save the finale for later because it’s the last AtLA episode I’ll ever get to watch for the first time. But I’m pretty sure Aang is not going to kill Ozai in the end and I’m really curious what that’s going to look like. And what about Azula? (Katara’s going to be very dangerous next episode, I predict. Though her arc about forgiveness isn’t really finished yet, hmm. IS SHE GOING TO BLOODBEND AZULA?!)

“sokka’s master” is such an iconic episode the a-plot is about sokka getting a dope ass sword the b-plot is about iroh getting swole and the c-plot is about sokka’s friends just sitting there talking about how much they love sokka. a perfect episode from start to finish
