Alright, here goes nothing!

Here is an early version of the like opening scene/sequence of The Last of Us: Unbroken (my tlou fangame concept that takes place between parts 1 and 2 and also parallel to part 2 and expands on the ending)

Opening credits/panning to mountains around Jackson in winter with text

Showing how pretty it is

An unknown male figure, looks to be maybe a year older than Ellie is in tlou part 1, wearing a flannel, coat, jeans, and a cowboy hat looking out at the mountains with binoculars, back turned, hoof prints leading away from him

Voices snap his head around.

Joel: “I still ain’t sure about you being out here, kiddo.”

Ellie: “Well, you’re with me. You saying you can’t keep me safe, old man?”

Joel: [scoffs] “Ellie. Anything could happen.”

The unknown character curses under his breath, and whirls around, clearly looking for something…camera focuses on the hoofprints and a broken branch where a horse has gotten loose. 

?: “shit. Ranger, you sneaky bastard”

[player can now move]

?: [to himself] “I gotta find Ranger and get the hell out before I get caught.”

Ellie: “Besides, Tommy said it’s just one rider.”

Joel: [scoffs softly, but his voice is amused] “It’s never just one, Ellie. Now c’mon.”

Ellie: “Yeah. Let’s see what all the fucking fuss is about and go home, it’s freezing.”

[stealth sequence hiding behind trees while listening to Ellie and Joel’s conversation about someone being sighted up here while following the tracks in the snow]

[Idle dialogue] ‘dammit Ranger… where are you, boy?’ ‘Of all the times…’

[Finds horse]

[cutscene reuniting, pressing his forehead to the horse’s muzzle] ‘Dammit bud, you can’t wander off like that’

The horse snorts and gives him away

He’s surrounded. “…shit.”

[cutscene cuts to Ellie and Joel, dialogue undetermined as of yet]

If I said I had an idea for a DLC/third game in the TLOU series that ties in all the themes of the others and also provides somewhat meaningful resolution to the story would now be a good time to post on Tumblr about it?

Hello tumblr! Here’s an introduction to what this blog will be all about!! It’s a fangame concept for a part 3 of The Last of Us (since Naughty Dog shows 0 signs of making another one).

If The Last of Us ever got a Part 3

Here's what I'd want it to be about.

A character's journey in grieving in a HEALTHY way. Starting in the same mindset Ellie had in Part II, but realizing revenge does nothing. With setbacks of course, because no path to healing is linear, and focusing on time in Jackson before Part II happens and before Ellie and Joel fall out.

Tommy would get more screentime, and bond with this new POV character.

The story would stretch through Part II's timeline from this new character's POV, and introduce chores around Jackson, patrols, etc and a more social storyline

the new POV character would go after Tommy, Ellie and Dina after they leave and meet them on their way back from Seattle.

Additionally this Part III would add on to Part II's ending, and the new POV character would find Ellie as she's leaving the farmhouse after she finds it empty. The lesson of the game would be "living in the way the people you've lost would want you to live."

And this new POV character would offer Ellie to come with them and learn that for herself.

A sample level idea from my TLOU3 concept

It’s a really hot summer day. The teens (Dina, Ellie, and this game's POV character, Tate (original character and the "playable character" for this game) are all boiling as they sit in the mostly empty cowboy bar, the girls (Dina and Ellie) perched on the bar and Tate sitting on a barstool, fanning himself with his cowboy hat.

Ellie throws her head back dramatically. “It’s fucking HOT!” “Yeah, no shit, Sherlock” Dina quips, fanning herself with her hand. Ellie glares at her, and opens her mouth to start something, but before she can… “Ladies, ladies. Why not go cool off instead of fighting?” “Yeah? You got any ideas?” Ellie asks. “We could always…go swimming.” Tate says with a sly look. The girls raise their eyebrows, and exchange a look, looking interested but skeptical. “Yeah? And WHERE is this magical place we could go swimming?” Dina asks. “I know a spot.” Tate replies. “…off the patrol paths.” Ellie sighs, looking slightly exasperated. “Tate-“ Tate interrupts her “Come on, Ellie. I didn’t know you were such a goody-two-shoes.” He says jokingly, starting for the door. “I’m going, though.” He slows his steps, you get a front shot of him with the girls in the background. Ellie shifts off the counter she’s sitting on. “Wait.” Tate smirks, turning to look over his shoulder. “Yeeesss?”

“Yeah, I’d rather come and NOT boil alive.” Ellie admits. She glares at him. “Stop looking so fucking smug.” Tate grins. “Ha! Never.” Ellie looks over to Dina, ignoring him. “You comin’, Dina?” “Fuck yeah I am.” Dina replies, also getting to her feet. Tate: “Great. Grab your guns, shorts, and t-shirts and meet me at the stables in ten.”

Dina and Ellie walk over to join him by the door. “Okay, the guns I get…” Dina admits, but looks slightly confused as they walk onto the street. “But why would you want us to-“ Ellie doesn’t look confused at all, and grins evilly. “Easy. Cowboy here doesn’t want to have a show. Isn’t that like, the opposite of what most boys our age wanna see?” She snickers.

Tate pulls his hat brim low over his face and looks away to hide his growing flush, but the player sees it. “Shut the hell up, Ellie. Maybe my parents taught me MANNERS, unlike SOME people.”

“Hey!” Ellie shoots back. “I have manners-“

Dina interrupts them. “Oh my god, will you two stop? Come on, let’s just get our shit before the adults notice we’re plotting something.”

[Sneak back to your room and grab your stuff]

[Investigating your room, you get your gun, and some paper and a pen, quickly sketching a map of the area at your desk with a picture of where Jackson is, and an X, presumably where the swimming hole is.]

[Sneak back to the stables.]

When Tate arrives, the girls are waiting. “What’s that?” Ellie asks, gesturing at the crude map. “This,” Tate explains as he affixes the map to Ranger’s stall door, and adds - “Went to cool off. Back before sundown. T, E, and D” in pen. “Is so only Joel and Tommy come after us and not the whole goddamn town.” “What??” Ellie sighs, but she looks resigned.

Tate smirks. “I might be a moron, but I’m not TOTALLY reckless. Let’s ride.”

[Sneak out the back gate and ride to the swimming hole]

(Idle dialogue on the way there) “How’d you even know about this place?” Ellie asks.

“Exploring. You should try it sometime.” Tate shoots back.

Dina sighs. “Will you two ever stop?”

(At the same time) “No ma’am.” “Not a chance.” (Amused tones- their bickering is all in good fun.)

Dina chuckles. “Figures. It’s so fucking weird having two of you around, Ellie.”

“Hey! I am NOT like him. I follow the rules and don’t get chewed out by Maria, like, EVERY day.”

“Oh HO, so you ADMIT you’re a goody-two-shoes!” Tate exclaims.

“What! Dina, tell him I’m not!”

Dina (amused): You walked right into that one, Ellie.

Ellie (sighs): No fair.

they get to the swimming hole, Tate stays on the shore, sitting on a rock. “You’re not coming in?” Ellie asks, tilting her head slightly. Tate goes like “Nah. SOMEBODY has to keep watch. For infected. Raiders. Angry foster parents. Yknow.” Ellie tenses slightly and looks away. “Joel isn’t my dad. He’s just… Joel.” Tate rolls his eyes with a smirk. “Sure he ain’t.” Ellie scoffs and rolls her eyes back and says “Whatever, Cowboy.” And splashes him. “Hey!” Tate exclaims. Ellie laughs and swims off, Dina holds her hand up for a high-five with a “Nice one, Ellie.”

Tate puts his pack and gun aside, stripping off his shirt and pants. “You’re gonna regret that.”

“Ooo, I’m SO scared-” Ellie shoots back.

Tate dives into the water, below the surface. The water is just dark enough to hide him.

[Game dialogue: Dunk Ellie.]

[Ellie is too far into the pond to swim directly to her and dunk her. If you try, you run out of air before you get there, forcing you into a cutscene where you surface, gasping for air, and she splashes you in the face, saying “Thought you could pull a fast one, huh, Cowboy?”]

Instead, use various clumps of pond weeds and lily pads to edge your way closer. You have to be careful not to get spotted.

[Idle dialogue while you’re sneaking:] Ellie: “Where’d he go?” Dina: “Cowboy thinks he’s a fish.” Ellie: That reminds me…of a joke- Dina: ELLIE NO. Ellie: “Oh c’monnn… [Pause] Why was the fish kicked out of the choir?” Dina sighs. Dina: “…Why.” Ellie: “Because it couldn’t hold a tune-a.” Dina groans. Dina: ELLIE. That was horrible. Ellie: Nah, that was funny. Dina: NO.

[You successfully sneak up on Ellie and grab her legs, pulling her under for a second. Ellie shrieks before she goes under]

[Tate and Ellie both surface]

Ellie glowers at Tate. “What the hell!”

Tate: I told you that you were gonna regret it. Your fault for letting your guard do-

Ellie splashes him in the face, making Tate scrunch up his face, but he’s still smirking. Tate: “Real mature.” Does a smaller splash in Ellie’s direction.

Dina: So what? Abandoning watch duty?

Tate is already swimming back to shore. “Nah. Just wasn’t gonna let that stand. Eye for an eye and all that. You ladies carry on, though.”

Ellie: And you call ME a goody-two-shoes?

Tate (sighs but says nothing)

Tate climbs back up onto the rock, shaking his hair out like a dog before combing it back and leaning back his head to let the sunlight hit his face.

Just then, a runner shows up

Ellie: “Shit! Runner!”

[You pick up your gun and shoot it, non-cutscene]

The gunshot echoes off the mountains.

Tate: “Everybody will have heard that. And any other infected out here.”

Ellie: Damn it…

Pipe dream probably but I think I found the way to wrap tlou up properly

i think it is a very powerful thing when the story inside you is so loud that you are forced to relearn how to draw, write, and talk to people to get it made into a real thing

I’m nervous about posting about my tlou fangame concept bc I know some folks are very opinionated about how the story should go

This is just for fun and I’m really excited about it but idk if people will even care about it at all
