THE WILL (PART 6)
Officer Jackson arrived back at the precinct beaming from ear to ear. Yes, ladies and gentlemen you heard correctly this officer and his crew of five might I add have just arrested the Wrangler and his piece of shit brother. Now where the hell are O'Brian and Mercer so I can rub it in their faces he asked a passing officer. You have not heard she responded? Heard what asked Jackson? Silence filled the precinct and before Jackson could say another word he got called into the Captain's office. Hey Captain, what's up Jackson asked? Have a seat Jackson I have some terrible news. Sitting down in a chair in front of Captain's James desk, Jackson waited with anticipation as he closed the door. Captain before you start, I know that this case is originally Mercer's and O'Brian's, but I will not stand by and watch you give them all the credit for this. Me and my guys brought in the Wrangler ourselves. I mean yes it was because of their lead but my paperwork is clear about who was in the field getting those assholes. Stop, just stop Captain James interrupted. Mercer and O'Brian were following a lead earlier at Stein Hospital when an explosion happened and, we have lost all contact with them. What are you saying Cap Jackson asked visibly upset? I am saying that as of now we pray that our guys are okay out there. I will be down at the hospital finding out more if anyone needs me. Can I begin questioning these scum bags to see if they can give us anything. Yes, Captain James replied, but just remember this case just got a whole lot worse, keep your cool Jackson. That is an order! Captain James grabbed his jacket and headed for the precinct doors.
Breathing heavy Officer Jackson made his way to interrogation room one where Jacob was being held. Swinging open the door and letting it slam hard behind him Officer Jackson demanded that everyone clear the room. The two officers that sat across from Jacob made it clear that they were not finished their questioning. Get out now! Jackson yelled holding back tears. Annoyed the two officers left Officer Jackson alone with Jacob. Jacob Lynch, 32 years of age, 6 foot, 290 lbs., and no real past Jackson stated. That's what your file says anyway. But why don't you tell me yourself Mr. Lynch, tell me why you like hanging out around Junction Station on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's? Jacob Lynch sat at the long cold metal table handcuffed and sweaty with nothing to say. Hello? Did you not hear me asked Officer Jackson. Tell me what you were doing three days a week for two years straight down at Junction Station asshole. You killed my brother whispered Jacob. What did you say! Yelled Jackson. I said I'm not saying shit because you killed my brother now get me my fucking lawyer yelled Jacob. Your brother who Shawn? Asked Jackson laughing. I didn't kill him, but he will wish he was dead once the system is through with him. Oh, and as for your lawyer well let's just say he's missing. The only option you have right now is to answer my questions and try to get a deal for yourself. Looking up at Officer Jackson for the first time Jacob laughed loudly and began to rock back and forth. Losing patience Officer Jackson grabbed the back of Jacob's sweaty neck and slammed his head hard against the metal table. Two officers rushed to Jacob's aid as two more officers dragged Officer Jackson out of the interrogation room. Laughing loudly Jacob began to sing white roses, white roses, you will get your white roses as the door slammed shut. Get the fuck off of me I wasn't done with his ass yet yelled Jackson as Officers Green and Smith let him go. Look Smith said pointing at Jackson we all want these guys behind bars but if you pull another stunt like that we might as well give them keys to go home now. You have to learn to control your anger, or this will just be another let go case on your file. Yeah, let me handle that Jackson said as he stormed off in the direction of his desk. Smith followed pissed. Jackson, listen he started you are our brother and if you burn, we all burn so let's just do this right and get these guys for O'Brian and Mercer. Distracted by the dozen of white roses on his desk Officer Jackson asked Smith who put them there. I don't know Smith answered I was too busy pulling you off Lynch in there. Is this some kind of joke Officer Jackson asked loudly as he threw the roses to the floor with a loud thud. Standing around in wonder Officer Green walked over and said they were delivered this morning while Jackson and his crew were arresting the Wrangler and his brother. Ticking emerged from the roses that were on the floor. And without much time to move Jackson yelled out run before an explosion erupted throughout the precinct.
Brian here. I have just arrived at Stein Hospital where an explosion took place about thirty minutes ago. Now because of safety precautions police are asking us to remain here a block away from the scene. But if you look closely, it looks as if the explosion sent a huge vibration through the parking lot and into the hospitals first floor windows. There is no word yet on what caused this explosion, but the police are on the scene. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. This is a tragedy, and we send our thoughts and prayers to all those involved. Roads are blocked traveling north and west so expect heavy traffic during your evening commute. Back to you Janice......

THE WILL (PART 5)
The neighborhood was quiet for a Saturday as Jacob made his way towards his apartment building holding a dozen of white roses. Mumbling to himself Jacob did not notice the two undercover officers pass him by on his way to the elevator. Your late! The Wrangler yelled at his brother as he walked through the door of their shared apartment. Look I got here as fast as I could Jacob wheezed. Is the job finished? The wrangler asked. Yes, the job is finished but I don't understand why she had to die Shawn. Hey, you call me the wrangler! got it? Shawn shouted at his brother. Yeah, I got it Jacob replied looking towards the door. Did you hear that whispered Jacob. Yeah, you asking to many questions as usual Shawn replied. No listen.... Six officers waited on the other side of the door as Shawn and Jacob continued their conversation. Are we all clear officer Jackson whispered into his mic. Yes, we are all clear to go Sargent Brown replied. On my count Officer Jackson signaled before stepping aside. On three another officer took the ram he was holding and with one swing knocked the door of the hinges. All six officers swarmed the apartment surprising both Jacob and Shawn. Shawn reached for his 38 revolver and in return received a bullet to his lower abdomen by Officer Jackson. Jacob shook in fear as he was thrown to the floor by two officers. Get this fucking clown a bus and search everything. Oh, and Officer Jones make a call to Officer Mercer and let her know we have the Wrangler.

THE WILL (PART 4)
Arriving at Stein Hospital Detective's O'Brian and Mercer walked up to the reception desk. Hello what room is Megan Johnson in Robin asked flashing her badge. Receiving directions, the two detectives made their way towards the elevator. So, you weren't held up at the house this morning like you said Mercer asked O'Brian? No, but I was working Robin, like I have told you before my relationship with Megan is a thing of the past O'Brian explained. Don't explain yourself to me just be sure that you have your story straight for Diane, because I refuse to cover for your cheating ass again Mercer stated with an attitude. Oh, and O'Brian, be a good detective and keep your ass in the hallway Robin said as they arrived at Megan's door.
Detective Mercer knocked lightly before walking into Megan's room. Irritated by the sight of her Megan sat up in bed and sighed loudly. Oh, good your awake Mercer said as she closed the door behind her. Where is Greg asked Megan. My partner is at the office filling out paperwork Mercer lied. Disappointed Megan searched Detective Mercer's eyes to see if she was lying. Robin grabbed a chair from the far corner and brought it close to Megan's bed. As you know my name is Detective Mercer and I am here to ask you a couple of questions. Is that okay with you Ms. Johnson asked Robin as she sat down. Ask away Megan motioned. Great, Detective O'Brian informed me that the two of you were together this morning what time was that? I called O'Brian at home around 2 a.m. and asked him to meet me down Junction Station Megan started. Why did you have him meet you there, and not at the office asked Mercer? Because I was working, and it was convenient for me Megan snapped. I told him that I had some information for him, but it was useless because he brushed it off. What information did you have for him asked Mercer? I told him about a guy named The Wrangler who was hanging down the Junction last night giving out roses. I also told him that the Wrangler's brother was one of my clients. The Wrangler was looking for me the day he was giving out roses not his brother. And now I'm laid up in the hospital with a bullet in my arm. Look I know you don't like me because of what I do for a living Megan said as she grabbed Robin's hand. But I don't want to die please help me! Megan pleaded. We will do everything in our power to keep you safe Megan Detective Mercer responded.
I just have a couple of questions left if you're feeling up to it asked Mercer? Agreeing Megan shifted in the hospital bed and told Detective Mercer to proceed. Do you know what the Wrangler's brother name is and where we could find him Mercer asked? He told me his name was Jacob and once he did offer to take me to his apartment over on 8th and Parks Ave. I guess he was getting tired of the cheap motel me, and the girls use for our clients. Okay Megan this is useful information I just have one more question Mercer said. When was the last time you had Jacob as a client Mercer asked? He was with me last Monday, but he didn't stay the night like he usually would he said he had somewhere important to be and left. Thank you, Megan this conversation was helpful, if you think of anything else, please give me a call Detective Mercer said as she handed Megan her card.
Detective Mercer, Megan called as Robin got up to leave. Yes, Mercer responded. When I got shot and was riding to the hospital with Detective O'Brian, he kept calling me Kelly. Kelly? Are you sure that's what he called you Robin asked? Yes, I was out of it but I'm pretty sure he called me Kelly. I am not sure if that is important, but I figured I would tell you. Okay thanks again Mercer said as she went to join her partner in the hallway. Closing the door behind her Detective Mercer stepped into the busy hospital hallway and looked for her partner. Walking down to the waiting area she spotted O'Brian on his phone. Looking over her notes Mercer waited as O'Brian finished his call. You were in there for a while did you get anything out of her O'Brian asked as he hung up the phone. Yeah, I got a lot out of her Mercer responded, and now we have an address. Really, well do you want to head over there now O'Brian asked determined. Let's head back to the station and get together a team before we head over their blind sighted Mercer stated. Where is the address, anywhere I know? O'Brian asked? Its over on 8th and Parks Ave Mercer said. That does sound familiar O'Brian said as he reached for his ringing phone, but I don't remember why. O'Brian motioned to Mercer that the call was from his wife Diane, and she was pissed. I would be pissed to if my husband was still seeing the whore, Robin said to herself as they walked out of the hospital. Detective Mercer got into her car as Detective O'Brian stood by the hospital still on the phone with his wife. Assuming that O'Brian would be a while Detective Mercer closed the car door. In the passenger seat sat a dozen of white roses with a note attached. Heart beating fast Mercer grabbed the note and began to read it just as her car made a weird noise. Before Robin had a chance to react an explosion erupted.

THE WILL (PART 3)
Standing outside of Stein Hospital I took a deep breath as I replayed the last couple of hours. My watch read 8am and I knew that by now Diane would be getting the twins ready for school. Grabbing my cellphone out of my pocket I went to call Diane when my partner called me. O'Brian here what's up Mercer? What's up Mercer? Detective Robin Mercer interrupted? Let's see O'Brian, you said that you would meet me at the office this morning, and well I am here and not unless your invisible you are not. Shit Robin I am sorry I got held up here at the house, I'm on my way okay responded O'Brian. Fine, but at least bring coffee with you Mercer said, as she hung up the phone. Exhaling loudly, O'Brian shook off his phone call with his partner and dialed his wife's number again. Her phone went straight to voicemail as O'Brian headed back towards his car. After a train ride and a two block walk back to his car Detective O'Brian was worn out from the night he had just encountered.
Detective Robin Mercer hung up the phone frustrated but determined to get to work. Shuffling through the files piled high on her desk, Robin looked through the latest crime scene photos of the latest victim. Are those rose petals in the background she said out loud to herself. Just as she said this O'Brian walked towards her juggling two cups of coffee and a box of what she hoped were jelly donuts. Grabbing the box out of his hand and biting into a donut, Robin motioned for her coffee. Right, to the point I see said O'Brian as he grabbed a chocolate donut for himself. Smiling slightly, Robin showed O'Brian the picture that she was looking at moments ago. O'Brian tell me what you see asked Mercer? Studying the picture O'Brian looked at the victim in the photo. She was dressed in a similar dress that Megan was wearing earlier that morning, but hers was covered in dirt and her wig was thrown beside her covered in blood. Moving on from the victim O'Brian spotted what looked like white rose petals stuck to the arm of the victim. Are those rose petals O'Brian asked Mercer? Yes, I believe they are answered Mercer before biting into another donut. Well, Robin that's why I wanted you to meet me here this morning O'Brian replied. I received some information last night from Megan. Seriously O'Brian more prostitution informants asked Mercer as she shook her head. Ignoring his partner O'Brian continued. There is this guy, he hangs around Junction Station and the girls call him the Wrangler. He was there on behalf of his brother last night and guess what he was handing out. Hopefully condoms Robin joked. No O'Brian said. White roses and according to Megan every woman who received a rose didn't show up for her shift last night. Well, it sounds like he gave them a better offer Robin said, and besides the rose pedals in the picture are red. Yes, that is true responded O'Brian as he ran his fingers through his beard. But don't you think we should still check it out. Look at how this woman is dressed Mercer; tell me she doesn't look like a working girl asked O'Brian? She does and maybe we should check it out but first I want to question Megan a little further, and alone demanded Mercer. The history you two share does not help here. Okay but we need to go to Stein Hospital for that. What do you mean why are we going their asked Mercer grabbing her jacket? That is where I dropped Megan off this morning O'Brian responded walking ahead of his partner.

THE WILL (PART 2)
Traveling in the middle of the night to meet with an informant was becoming a pattern for O'Brian. He would meet up with Megan twice a week to gather street information and receive sexual favors. With Megan's help Detective Gregory O'Brian solved over a dozen of murder cases, and he hoped that she could help him solve this one as well. With a growing erection the suspense was killing O'Brian as he got closer to fifth and market. Stopping at the convenient store a block away O'Brian grabbed cheap cigarettes and a box of condoms. Arriving Greg looked around for Megan as he parked on a side street. This way the working girls knew to stay away from his car because he was not buying. Just as he put his car into park Megan got out of a ruby red Camry wearing a silver dress that left little to the imagination.
Gregory waited patiently for Megan to spot his car and climb into the passenger's seat. Fixing her make-up Megan exhaled deeply. Gregory knew not to ask if everything was okay. He knew what occurred in that car just moments before and he knew what would happen in his own car shortly. Where are my cigs? Asked Megan. Here Greg replied reaching into his pocket. Smoke filled the car quickly as Megan chain smoked her cigarettes. Cracking a window Megan put out her cigarette and reached for Greg's crotch. Not tonight Gregory said as he pushed Megan's hand away. What is wrong with you, I see your dick is hard let me just get you off so you can be on your way Megan said annoyed. Frustrated Greg started his car and pulled off. Where are you taking me? Megan asked. Ignoring her Greg drove around the block and pulled into the alley way where they have had sex before. Megan tell me what you know please Greg asked looking into her eyes. There is this guy they call him the Wrangler. He came here last night with a dozen of white roses. Every girl that he gave a rose to didn't show up tonight for work. Well, it just sounds like the Wrangler gave them a better offer Greg interrupted. Listen Greg Megan demanded. He has a brother; he is a regular of mine. He always brings me a dozen of white roses. My girl got word that the Wrangler came here last night looking for me. Greg I'm scared Megan said eyes full of tears. I just don't want to become the next victim.
There was a long moment of silence as Greg starred at Megan trying to piece things together. Frustrated Megan got out of the car and started walking out the alley way and onto the main street. Wait Megan Greg called following her. What Greg Megan answered as she lit another cigarette.
Tell me what your relationship was like? I fucked him three times a week if that is what you would call a relationship. He called I answered we fucked he left and that was it. Mondays, Wednesdays, and every Friday for two years straight. Letting out smoke from her cigarette Megan starred into Detective O'Brian's eyes and waited for a reaction. O'Brian looked away as he once again tried to gather his thoughts. Fed up Megan walked back to her main corner hurt and determined. You know you are not the only detective that comes out here. If you will not help me, they will, she shouted without turning around. What was that about girl? Sherry asked as she approached me from a block away. Mine your own damn business I shouted drawing more attention than I intended. Walking away towards the bus stop I decided that it was time for me to call it a night. I had enough disappointment to last me into morning. Just as the bus came into view a white van sped around the corner, opened the side door, and started to spray what sounded like fireworks into the air. Moving quickly, I dove behind the metal trash can attached to the bus stop. My left shoulder was on fire as I watched the van speed off around the next corner. Grabbing my shoulder, blood started to spill from my egg sized wound. Looking up from the ground I could see Detective O'Brian running my way gun drawn as I slowly began to lose consciousness. I woke to sirens blaring and O'Brian above my head talking to one of the paramedics. O'Brian don't let them take me to the hospital in barley a whisper. Shhh Kelly everything will be okay O'Brian responded as he stroked my hand lightly. Who is Kelly I asked looking at him confused? How much longer until we arrive O'Brian yelled over the sirens to the paramedic. Moments later we were slowing down and then we came to a sharp stop. As the paramedics were taking me out of the ambulance, I asked O'Brian again to please don't let them take me to the hospital. Kelly, I told you once already that everything will be okay O'Brian snapped. Who is Kelly I asked again as I closed my tired eyes?

THE WILL (PART 1)
Kelly don't! I yelled as she jumped into the deep end of the pool. I yelled for my mother, but she never came. Minutes went by and Kelly never came up from the pool water that swallowed her little body. I jumped into the pool determined to save Kelly only to realize that I to was sinking to the bottom of the pool. Kicking my feet while trying to keep my head above the water I yelled for help just before the pool swallowed my body and everything went black.
Greg, Greg, baby wake up, are you okay? Diane asked as she shook her husband awake. Sitting up in bed, grabbing his head Gregory shook off his re-occurring nightmare. I'm fine Diane he answered. It was your sister again, wasn't it? Diane pressed. Before he could answer Gregory's phone rang. O'Brian here Greg answered. It's me can you talk a female voice whispered. Looking in the direction of his wife who rolled back over and went to sleep. O'Brian answered yes as he went into the bathroom. Closing the door O'Brian whispered Megan, you must stop calling me at home. It's important Megan whispered. Can you meet me? Right now, Gregory asked? Well yes now, exclaimed Megan. I am on the corner of 5th and Market. Oh, and O'Brian make sure you bring the usual with you. Hanging up the phone Greg looked at himself in the bathroom mirror and shook his head. How did I get here he asked himself aloud? Dressing quickly and moving around the house quietly Greg grabbed his car keys and headed towards the front door.

1034 WEST YORK STREET (PART 3)
By the age of twelve I started seeing the doctor lady regularly. Her tiny apartment and that room became my home away from home. After about my fifth time there she started talking to me. She was the one who explained what sex was and how the pills she gave me kept me from getting pregnant. This woman was also the same woman who told me to run away.
We had KFC that night, the night that I finally packed my bag and decided to leave. It was snowing outside, just a light flurry when I made my way down the stairs. Usually, I would have to cook dinner, but tonight was different. Over dinner he had asked me something that still to this day makes my stomach turn. He decided that he wanted another child and since I was now the woman of the house it was my duty to provide one for him. Staring at him with no comprehension of what was being said. I sat there and cried as he reached for my hand and told me how I looked like my mother. I fought him off as best I could that night but just like every other time, he overpowered me, and I lost the battle. Giving him, one last looks over as he laid drunk on the couch, I reached for the front door that night and vowed to never return.
I was twelve with nowhere to go at 2:30 in the morning. I just remember running and not looking back. I told myself that if I had stopped running, he would eventually catch up to me. My only thought was to go to the doctor that smelled like sweet candies. Arriving at her house I climbed the steps alone and knocked on her door. She answered the door immediately, looked at me, and started looking around for him. Noticing this, I spoke up and told her I was alone and needed help. She let me come in but instead of leading me into the usual room with the table, we entered a tiny kitchen. Not much was in her kitchen just a table, two chairs, a hot plate, and a fridge. Starring at me in disbelief she ran water over a towel and pressed it against my face. She had never seen me beaten before the only bruises she cared for were the ones between my thighs. Asking her what I should do was pointless she just kept staring at me while she shook her head. She told me that I could not stay there and that if he found me there, he would do to her what he had done to me. She gave me forty dollars and told me to keep my head up as she walked me to the front door. Alone and afraid I stepped out onto the cold street for the second time that night. It felt as though I had been walking for hours but I refused to stop until I felt as though I was far enough away from him. Every car that drove by me looked like his, every man that walked pass me looked like him. I was exhausted with no plan and little hope that I would make it through the night.
A block from where I stood was a Church that looked familiar to me. As I got closer, I realized it was the same church where my mother's funeral was held. I sat on the church steps and watched as the light flurries became heavy snow. Freezing, tired, and scared I cried for my mother until I fell asleep. Someone kicking my foot woke me up out of my sleep looking around it was morning. Standing above me was a woman dressed I white. Till this day I believe she was an angel. She told me to come inside the church with her to get out of the cold. With no other options and to tired to run I followed this woman inside. The church was bigger than I remembered rows and rows of seating, and it was very warm in there. She led me down some stairs and into a huge kitchen area where there were rows of seating and tables prepared for food. She explained to me that the church fed people three times a day, and they were preparing for breakfast. I watched as the other women in white hustled to get the food ready. I was so hungry watching as they passed by me carrying tons of food. The woman who brought me down there went to talk to another lady that kept staring at me as though she could see through to my soul. Preparing myself to run the woman in white told me that I could eat here and that she would take me to her home afterwards. She told me that I had nothing to worry about as she made me a huge plate of food. I ate in silence in the far corner watching as men, women, and children piled into the church's kitchen to eat. They were all dirty and some women were beaten worse than me. Finishing my food, I went back up the stairs and into what the woman in white had called the sanctuary. I sat there thinking of my mother and how he had killed her. I began to panic thinking that he would eventually find me and kill me to. I could not go home with the woman in white he would kill her. I made my way through the church and back outside. It had stopped snowing and the sun was very bright. As I walked down the street, I heard a woman call my name. I kept walking because she sounded just like my mother. The woman in white grabbed me and asked me where I was going. Confused I realized that it had been her calling my name. How did she know my name, she had to be an angel? Grabbing me by the hand she told me that her and my mother were friends and that they had lost touch years ago. The last time she had seen my mother was in her casket. That's where she had seen me last to. Pleading with me to come home with her, I eventually gave in because it felt like the right thing to do.

1034 WEST YORK STREET (PART 2)
April 4, 2000, my mother passed away from a gunshot wound to the head. She was attacked as she made her way home from work is what the papers said. Gang violence was at a high and no other questions were being asked. My mother's funeral was a blur for me. Maybe it was because he requested for her to be cremated, or maybe it was because I just sat there the entire time thinking about how loud that gunshot was. My family showed up for the funeral and disappeared soon after. I had no real contact with anyone after the passing of my mother. Alone and scared with him became my everyday existence from then on.
It was the rain and cold air that woke me up that morning. I had another day off from school for a holiday which was fine with me because I had my books to keep me company. I got up to use the bathroom when his smell hit me hard. I jumped back not knowing he was in the doorway. As I stepped back pain went through my stomach sending me to my knees. Looking up at him for a sign of mercy he turned around and walked away. Not knowing whether this was a good thing I tried to stand as the pain in my stomach got worse. Not sure as to why I was in so much pain I proceeded to the bathroom. As I wiped myself, I noticed that I was bleeding. Not sure as to how I was bleeding or where it came from, I ran water in the tub to take a bath.
After my bath I laid back down in my bed and kept feeling shocks of pain going through my stomach. I guess I made too much noise trying muffle my crying because I smelled him before he hit my doorway. What's wrong with you now! He yelled at me. I told him I was bleeding from my butt and was in pain. He gave me the most disgusting look and told me that he would be back. Scared that he was going to kill me I lay there thinking about my mom and how I would be with her soon. Minutes passed and then I heard a woman talking to him as they headed towards my room. Instead of giving me answers she was annoyed as she threw a plastic bag at me and left. I had never seen this woman before, and I had hoped that she would return but she never did. The bag she threw at me contained pads, chewable Tylenol, chocolate, and a book titled SO YOU'RE BECOMING A WOMAN. Confused I read through the book and educated myself on what was happening to my body. The book contained very visual pictures and guided me on how to use pads properly. I cleaned myself up and cried myself back to sleep with thoughts of my mother on my mind. Welcome to womanhood.
In school the kids were cruel, and I only had one friend. Everyone always had on the latest fashion, and I was stuck wearing what he could find. How I dressed was the last thing on my mind. Everyday away from home was a plus for me even if only for a couple of hours. I would volunteer to help in the school's library which added on to my constant bullying. I didn't care though nothing they did to me compared to what I was used to getting at home. In the library I was able to be myself and do what I love. The librarian was nice and let me take home as many books as I pleased since I read through them so fast. Books became my everything and my way of finding peace that no one could take away from me.
That was until November of 2000 came. It was a rainy night and the electric in the house had gone out just as I was getting to the good part of my goosebumps book. I had a flashlight and just as I turned it on his smell hit me hard. He told me that it wasn't good to read in the dark and that I would strain my eyes. Feeling disappointed I turned off the flashlight and went to put my book under my pillow. Before I could, he grabbed the book out of my hand and ripped it in half. I was so angry and fed up that I accidently spoke and yelled that it wasn't my book. A smack landed hard against my face followed by words of how I thought I was grown and smart because I read all the time. I thought he would leave after his tantrum like always, but this time was different. I spoke up for myself and I guess he decided to teach me a lesson. Grabbing the flashlight out of my hand he made me undress in the moonlight that came through my window. Not understanding why, I was naked he told me to lay across the bed and spread my legs. Panic set in and before I could lay down completely, he put a gun to my head. The same gun that he killed my mother with. I started to cry and piss myself I would have even called for my mom this time, but she was in a better place. It was just me him and his gun. He started yelling about how I was a whore that would never become anything in life and how I deserved everything that was coming to me. Not knowing what to do I started to think about my make-up and how my mom could cover up my bullet wound once he shot me, and I joined her in heaven. He pushed me on my bed snapping me out of my trance and bringing me back to reality. He pulled down his pants with one hand while holding the flashlight with the other. I didn't understand what he was doing and couldn't see much in the moonlight I just remember his smell smothering me from above and how heavy he was in top of me. He was trying to push my legs apart as I tried my best to push him off me. Screaming and crying I didn't know what was happening all I felt was something poke me between my legs that was hard and then something felt like it was cutting inside of me. I peed myself again as I kept trying to push him off me. Crying from the pain of him stroking his body into mine I remember his smell and how pretty the moonlight was from my window before I lost consciousness.
Waking up and looking around I felt like I was dreaming. My legs were very heavy, and my head hurt bad. The smell of pee consumed me as I sat up on the table. Instantly I knew I wasn't home because the smell of that woman filled the air. Looking around I was back in the tiny apartment in the same room as before with the lamp. Only this time the room was a little different it had big red curtains on the windows, and the table wasn't bare there was a towel under me. As the thought to why am I here again came across my mind the woman walked in. She was smaller than I remember from the first time but that familiar smell of sweet candies surrounded her as she came near me. She asked me how I felt, and I told her that my legs hurt and my head. I wanted to know what happened to me and how I got here but all she told me was that I was a very bad girl, and this is what happens when you are bad. Still lost about exactly what happened she told me that I had lost my virginity and seeing the confused look on my face she got quiet. She wanted to know if I started my period and I answered yes. She dug in her pocket and gave me two pills to take. As I swallowed them his smell lingered at the door as he stood in the doorway. Smelling him made me panic and I pissed myself again but this time it burned which led me to scream and grab myself. The burning stopped after a while but when I looked at my hand all I could see was blood. She told me to calm down and that the bleeding will stop as soon as I took a hot bath.
At home the house was still dark which means the lights were still out. Scared I stood at the bottom of the staircase as his smell hit me again. Standing over top of me he put the gun back to my head and almost at a whisper told me that if I ever told anyone what happened he would kill me. Not wanting to say anything that would make him angry I squeezed past him and made my way upstairs in the dark. In my room I searched for my flashlight which was on the floor by my bed and turned it on. What I had seen changed my life forever. There was so much blood on my sheets that I started shaking and crying again. In a panic I changed my sheets and searched for my lipstick. Sitting on the side of my bed putting on my lipstick gave me a sense of peace. Everything will be okay now I told myself because I had put my make-up on.

1034 WEST YORK STREET (PART 1)
My fifth birthday was the turning point in my life that made things clear for me. I got up dressed and was overall excited about the party my mother planned for me later. My mother was in the kitchen cooking breakfast when I made it downstairs. As I made my way across the living room his smell overwhelmed me. I hit the floor hard, and before I had even realized that it was him standing above me another hand landed across my face sending me into a spinning trance. When I finally came to my mother was yelling something I couldn't really make out and he was standing there laughing saying what it's her birthday right? As I got up from the floor my mother motioned me over to come have breakfast. Sitting at the table with a bloody lip on my fifth birthday was the first of many days to come like this.
Later that day before the party started my mother gave me a life lesson that I carried with me throughout adult hood. As she put make-up on my swollen cheek, she explained to me that whatever goes on in this house should stay in this house. A lesson that will haunt me forever and always.
Everyone in my family was at my fifth birthday party. There were balloons, streamers hanging from the ceiling, gifts that took up half of the cake table, and then there was him and his friends. The drunken crew is what I heard my mother call them over the years. Living with one abusive alcoholic was enough for me let lone dealing with his drunk friends. I'm not sure how the fight broke out at my party, but it was huge. I remember dancing with my cousins when suddenly, I got pushed into the fire extinguisher that held the basement door shut. For the second time that day I was on the floor nursing a wound I did not ask for. My party ended shortly after that, and I was sent to my room wondering why me.
I could hear the screams from upstairs that night. I must have cried myself to sleep because when I woke my head felt heavy and my eyes were swollen. In my room I could hear him and my mother yelling about my party and how he drinks too much. Well, if the little bitch doesn't like it, she can always leave he screamed. Same argument different day, I never understood why my mother wouldn't just leave him. The clock on my bedside table read 4 a.m. when the house finally got quiet. I knew it was safe to roam the house now because all I could hear was him snoring downstairs on the couch. Moving very slowly trying my very best not to wake him I made my way downstairs where the scene changed drastically. What once was a beautifully decorated party was now a tornado of presents, cake on the wall, and beer can scatter in between. I held back my tears as best I could as I made my way to the kitchen. I was almost finished making my peanut-butter and jelly sandwich when his smell hit me. Not having enough time to react a punch landed across my cheek, the same cheek that he smacked me across the morning of my birthday. So, you think your grown now that your five years old right he yelled. No, I responded in between blood and tears. Well then what the hell are you doing sneaking around my house this time of morning, he asked? I was hungry I whispered looking at the floor. Waiting for another slap or punch to hit my face I held my breath and closed my eyes, but nothing came. Instead, he took my sandwich from the kitchen table, threw it on the floor and made me eat it like I was a trained dog. After eating my sandwich, I made my way back upstairs to my room and cried myself back to sleep. Happy Birthday to me.
I was nine the first time I tried applying make-up by myself. It was 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning when I felt my right side go numb. I must have overslept because all I could hear was him yelling about how dirty the house was. I tried to get up from off the floor but when I moved, I realized that I was trapped between my dresser and one of the drawers. Pushing the drawer to the side I tried to get up again, but it was too late, his foot came crashing down on my right side hard followed by you are a lazy bitch! Screaming to the top of my lungs at this point I began to see stars and my head got heavy as I lost consciousness. The strong smell of bleach woke me up. I don't know how long I was out for, but I was still in the same spot on the floor covered in pee. Wish it was my own, but I knew better than that. Trying to get up from the floor was not easy I dragged myself over to my bed and tried to stand but the pain on my right side was too much to bear. I knew that if I called out for help my right side would be the least of my worries, so I laid there looking for a way to help myself. Looking around my room I began to cry. All my stuffed animals were destroyed, and my make-up was smeared all over my mirror. That's when it hit me, make-up will make it all better or at least that's what my mother programmed me to believe. While reaching out for lipstick that rolled under my bed, I could hear size ten boots coming up the stairs. As panic set in I finally was able to reach it and smear it across my face. Starring at him face to face I didn't know what to think, but instead of him hitting me this time he told me to go take a bath that my mother would be home soon. Scarred shitless I told him that I couldn't move and closed my eyes. I felt weightless as he picked me up from the floor and thought in my mind this is it, he finally killed me. Instead, he said I needed to be looked at by a doctor that my right side was swollen bad. Smelling like pee in the back seat of his car I was in a terrible amount of pain and cried to myself all the way to the doctor. Arriving I knew right away that this was not the doctor that my mom usually took me to. He carried me up a flight of stairs that smelled worse than me and into a tiny apartment. Looking around there were no books, no kids table, nothing at all. Just a room in the back with a table and lamp next to it. The smell of the woman coming from the bathroom smelled very familiar as she came into the room where he was still to my surprise holding me. She told him to put me on the table and get out. Panic set in again, I didn't know this woman and even though I wasn't safe with him I knew being with him would eventually get me back to my mother. He told her he would pick me up when she was done. I had no idea what that meant but I do remember her telling me to count to ten as I lost consciousness again.
The sound of my mother crying woke me up that night. Still in pain I struggled to move but that didn't stop my ears from working. I could hear my mother yelling at him and telling him that we were leaving tonight. Excited and scared I wished to God that I could move just enough to hear his response. Nothing but silence filled the air for what felt like forever, and just as panic set in I heard a loud bang and the shattering of glass. Scared out of my mind I listened for my mother. Nothing again, and then finally I heard footsteps coming towards my room. I closed my eyes tightly and pretended to be asleep as my mother entered my room. She turned on the light sat on the side of my bed and told me that we were leaving. I couldn't help but smile as my mother helped me from my bed and began to pack up some of my clothes. I didn't ask any questions, but I did grab my favorite teddy bear and bible. I was packed and ready to go when his smell entered the room. Standing in front of me my mother told him again that we were leaving, and he needed to move. Ignoring my mother and looking straight at me he demanded for me to tell my mother that I fell out of bed earlier. Before I had time to grasp that this fight was about me and my injury my mother said that her mind was made up and told him that he needed time to himself. Clearly not accepting that statement he went downstairs stomping loudly. My mother apologized to me for what he had done and promised me that he would never hurt me again. Feeling safe and loved I threw myself into her arms and cried loudly. I looked up and saw him standing there with a gun! I drew breath in and just as my mother let me go there was a loud bang and a flash of light. Ringing in my ears is all I remember after that. Why didn't she just leave?
