The thing I like so much about Uma Musume (and similar all-female cast gacha franchises like Girls Frontline) is that because

A) the plotline is a serious action plotline usually given to shonen characters

and

B) all of the characters are girls

The story is forced to actually give all the girl characters full, interesting, three-dimensional personalities, goals, flaws, and intense relationships of the kinds that in pretty much any other media only male characters get to have.

Not that girl characters never get to have three-dimensional personalities etc in general, but Uma Musume and others of its type end up giving their characters *specifically* the tropes and personalities usually reserved for shonen anime boy characters.

And I love that.
