A little introduction about me (Christina).
I am a high school student in Austria, Europe. They are called Gymnasiums by the way. I love pop, rock, jazz and lofi music. I always try and change my life because it is my masterpiece afterall.
Back to the spoilers!
Today I'll be spoiling the book: We were liars by E. Lockhart
It is a heart-wrenching, sad but amazing novel. It really made me cry and not a lot of books do tbh. Just by the first page I was introgued.
Plot:
A girl called Cadence Sinclair Eastman lives with her mom who loves expensive things. Her father left them when she was just fifteen because he just couldn't pretend to like the Sinclairs, their family.
Every summer Cadence gets to see her family. Every summer she gets to see her cousins Mirren Sheffield Sinclair and Johnny Dennis Sinclair. But also Gat(wick) Patil who she fell in love with. One summer her mother decides that it's okay for Cadence to go with her father to Europe for the whole summer.
So she does.
While she explored Europe she decides to write E-mails to her cousin asking about Gat, who she hasn't seen for a long time. Sadly, they didn't reply at all.
When she comes back to Beechwood Island (Cadence's grandfather's private island) she sees Gat again and the two fall in love again.
In the end Cadence, Mirren, Johnny and Gat decide to light Clairmont (the newly renovated one. You'll understand once you actually read the book) on fire. The only one who survived was Cadence.
In the last few pages the author writes about how Cadence goes to Cuddledown (Mirren's former Beechwood house) and sees her family and lover's ghost. When they stop at the shore to bid their farewells together they talk about the memories they've had with each other. In the end we find out that Mirren, Johnny and Gat have already passed away since two years.
My opinion:
This is the saddest f*cking book I've ever read in my whole entire life. I cried at the start of the book, middle to the end. Literally, my eyes were swollen the next day. But in all honesty, I recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a sad yet inspiring novel to read. Or someone who's simply bored out of their mind.
Anyways...
That's all I'm going to share with you today. Au revoir!
