Watching weekly kimi to idol episodes is like taking a shot and wondering what bullshit im going to see this time. Im soooo tired of people praising this season as if it’s good when Uta’s the only one that gets to develop and is given this weird romantic dynamic with Zukyoon. It was cute until Kokoro’s family episode where she randomly decides to not walk home with her mom, and then EVERYTHING started to make no sense. Kokoro stopped having thoughts besides saying her catchphrase, Nana barely gets to say anything at all, and the villains (especially the weekly enemy designs) are just so boring.

Then the mid season cures are released and…wow. The hype i felt when the designs dropped and the episode is so different. Not only did they say nothing besides their names and catchphrases for their debut (excluding attacks), Purirun was just a different character. Meroron also didnt get the wish consequence, so it was weird (it was revealed today, and WOW i’ll get to it later). Even before the memory wipe, Purirun suddenly only cared about Cure Idol despite wishing that she could help all of the Idol Cures like right before that episode. What the hell happened to all three? After Purirun got her memory back, she isn’t even cutely dumb anymore, she acts like a 2 year old who can’t think and can only eat. Even in cure form, she doesn’t do anything. Meroron also doesn’t develop at all during this, causing the “the price was her ability to make connections” theory online, even though the condition was something the participant treasured, and Meroron did not care at all about the other cures.

A lot of episodes during this are repeat episodes for the cures, like the fanclub episode…when they already know what a fanclub is. Zakkuri and Nana’s episode was cute but Nana saying that she learned things from Uta and Kokoro is just not true. What has Uta done besides talk about Zukyoon, sing, and say her catchphrase whenever someone is sad? What has Kokoro done besides only saying her catchphrase? The episodes try to make the audience believe that being idols has done something for them, but we can’t even see them record the vocals for their songs. All their concerts are wrecked by the villains, they barely use their Curetube page, and Kokoro hasn’t talked about idols since the fanclub episode despite debuting as a big idol fan.

But Meroron and Purirun might be the worst case of this show. Ever since the Kirari Lock, NOTHING has changed. Meroron still hates Uta, Purirun only cares about Uta, and Kokoro and Nana are off to the side. With this week’s episode, Meroron’s revealed to have lost the ability to be friends with everyone. Which is SUCH BULLSHIT when it was clearly stated that the participants of the Lock lose what’s most treasured to them. Meroron’s consequence just feels like an excuse to keep her the same for weeks. Meroron crying at Purirun’s decision to forget Uta because she’s not Purirun’s treasured person felt like finality because it felt like Meroron would forget Purirun while Purirun remembered her (at least to me). Like Meroron had to quickly swallow the fact that she’ll forget Purirun and everything she’s made her feel while Purirun forgets about a girl she met just weeks or months ago. Then they come back as cures and Meroron just…remembers everything? Why is her condition a future thing? And they can just transform separately now???? They didn’t even have anything special happen. Purirun’s speech about protecting Meroron is also not in character because Purirun has not cared about Meroron for so long. Where is this suddenly coming from when every episode is Purirun loving Uta? There are no hints about Purirun always caring, and it’s not charming if Purirun’s oblivious because she’s literally a 2 year old who can’t comprehend something if Uta or food aren’t involved.

I love precure being fun, but this is just bad writing and excusing it because it’s a show aimed towards little girls. I want it to make sense and not be boring, not fueling a ship between a 14 year old and 20 year old looking cure who acts like she’s 2. Nana is literally the best character here since she hasn’t developed at all. Kokoro could be up there but her dance, low self esteem seen in her not including herself in the idol group, and love for idols are all ignored to give Uta another episode of nothing.
