NOW, ARE YOU HAPPY? | Wedding Day Special

pairing: idol!Jaehyun x reader
others: idol!Taeyong
genre: romance, fluff, wedding day, married couple
warnings: cursing, wedding day anxiety, nausea, unexpected pregnancy
words: 7k
summary: it's your wedding day, but despite the excitement you can't keep your anxiety at bay. Jaehyun's presence is the only thing that makes you feel better, but a single glance from your husband makes him realize that your nausea isn't just nerves. it doesn't take too long for Jaehyun to prove that he's right
This is a Now, are you happy? spin off
can be read as a separate fic
Your bridesmaid called for your attention, hands reaching out to smooth the fabric over your shoulders.
“I’m so excited.” She fixed you with a look, face pooling with a smile so sincere, the knot in your stomach traveled up.
“I’m so nervous.” You whispered under your breath.
“Why? I’m sure Jaehyun will love the dress. You look extra pretty today. And the cleavage area? Stunning.” Your friend’s eyes traveled down to your chest and you followed, focusing on your reflection in the mirror.
“Is it too much? I can’t work out what’s wrong with the dress, or, more likely what’s wrong with me. It fit perfectly last week. And now?” You ran the tips of your fingers over your waist and chest. The garment seemed like it shrunk by a size, or more like you expanded. “I’m anxious and fat, and it’s my wedding day?” Your exasperation and sudden outburst of teardrops in your eyes disturbed the whole room, your mom and your husband’s mom fussed around you in an instance.
“Darling, you look wonderful, the dress looks perfect, everything is good.” Your mom tried to carefully catch the watery diamonds in your eyes with a tissue.
“Marriage brings comfort, and a few extra pounds are a sign you're well taken care of.” Your aunt handed you a glass of water. “I’d be more concerned, if you turned into all bones after signing the marriage certificate.”
“There are no pounds, Jeonsoo, Y/n’s nervous, that’s normal, a lot of people are attending.” Your mom tried to shush away her sister discreetly, failing as she made a face right in front of you.
“Right, my daughter-in-law is not about attention. I’m so thankful you agreed to have this event for all of us old people.” Jaehyun’s mom squeezed your shoulder subtly. “I’m sure it’ll go smoothly. We have to go put on our hanboks and meet the guests. Will you be okay?” Her palm slid down your arm to hold onto your palm. Now you had your mom’s palms in each of your head and the waves of comfort it brought you were supposed to calm you down.
But it didn’t seem to fully work on you. “I am, thank you.” You smiled, gesturing for the mothers to leave the room without a worry. “Grandma will probably arrive early and nag that we’re late, mom. You need to be quick.” You mastered a little smile, lifting the spirits of both your and Jaehyun’s mothers, to not make them worry too much, you had to pull yourself together. Not make a scene.
“I will excuse myself also.” Your aunt gestured to the exit, leaving you and two of your friends in anxious silence.
You three followed with your gazes the exit of the last related to you person from the room and dropped all the formalities aside as she walked out. “Okay, but be honest, do I look like shit?” Your gaze fixated on the weakest target. Your school friend that had a rash over her neck every time she tried to lie.
“God, no! Where’d you get that impression from? The dress hugging your bust perfectly-.” She pointed out the main issue of yours. You felt even more conscious about that than before, covering your chest up with a palm.
“Okay, stop, Rina, I think there’s something else.” Sora made your other friend stop with both her eyes and a hand gesture. “What’s up, little love? What’s bothering you? Definitely not the dress.” Sora walked up to you and hugged your shoulder.
“I’m anxious about this whole thing.” It was a panic attack, you should’ve guessed earlier. Clearly. Semi-public events like that made your lungs stick to your back, vacuuming and not letting any more air in. Like when Jaehyun would want to go out like the little family that you were. Or when he’d bring you to public events and act like a stranger, but then allow his gaze to linger on you for a split second longer than everyone else and your anxiety throws you off a hill the same moment. When on the way home you feel like every other car is following you, like you’ve been busted and they’re on their way to finding out more and more. You could never get rid of that feeling no matter how hard you’ve been trying to do so all those years.
“Marriage?” Sora asked dumbfounded.
“You’ve signed the marriage certificate three months ago? No?” Rina’s eyes turned downwards as her smile fell.
“No! No. Not the marriage, I’m anxious about the event. There will be so many people, Sohee is here, and everyone are so exposed. And Jaehyun’s celebrity friends will come, and then it’s just us. There’s anxiety up in my throat at the mere idea of walking out. I feel like I will faint. I couldn’t sleep properly tonight wondering if anyone out of those invited has malicious intentions of exposing this whole thing.” You explained in a long ramble, not stopped even by empathetic sighs of your friends and little ‘oh honey’ exclamations along the way.
“I’ll call for Jaehyun, okay? You’ll feel much better once you see him. Or better, tell him how this is making you feel.” Sora squeezed you in her arms, thinking that’s something you’d agree to easily.
“No, I know he’s going to worry himself to sickness.” You protested weakly, having him here would be perfect, but making him worry about you will mean both bride and groom with anxiety attacks and it’s not a good thing to have that on a wedding day.
“Sweetheart, you’re anxious, it’s okay, but let us bring Jaehyun over. He’ll make it better for you.” Rina squeezed your shoulder on the other side of you, watching you let a pent up sigh out. “He’s your husband. You’ve always been saying that lack of communication almost ruined your life. Don’t pull that string again.”
“Okay. Okay, tell him I need him.” You agreed, watching Rina happily sprint through the room. “But you are so dramatic, Rina! I’m nervous on my wedding day, that’s it!” You cheered, trying to light up the mood before she exits the room. Gravely walking up to the man or saying that his wife, might be a little overwhelmed over this whole thing was a big difference, and it mattered how the news will be delivered to him. You hoped you somehow lit up her perspective about your mood.
“Sure thing!” She chuckled.
“Here, take a few sips of water.” Sora extended you a glass of water once again. “And sit down.”
A moment later you both stilled at the softest knock against the door, knowing exactly who’d make that sound. Sora looked you in the eyes, also crossing the room to the door, and exiting it before Jaehyun could even peak through.
“We’ll be around.” Sora let you know, before disappearing. Jaehyun took a step in right after, forcing the door closed with his arm, quickly passing the distance to you.
“Hi, baby.” Jaehyun dropped onto his knees right in front of your sitting figure. Lips quickly covering the back of your hand. “You’re stunning.”
“No, no, get up, your pants will be all wrinkled.” You worried to not make him worry about you.
“I don’t care about that. Your aunt said you’re having a panic attack.” Jaehyun’s eyes ran over your face, lowering down onto your chest that felt even more caged right the same moment. To an extent, where you felt actually sick and ready to throw up. “What happened?” Jaehyun’s fingers weaved through yours.
“I don’t know what this is. I just feel so caged in my chest. Sick to my stomach even. I didn’t want you to see the dress before it’s time, but everyone’s convinced I’ll feel better once I see you and they’re probably right.” Jaehyun smiled, rubbing his knuckles into your jaw.
“Come here.” Jaehyun whispered, getting on his feet an extending an arm to you, so you’d also get up and let him see you properly.
“Take off the jacket, please? We can’t be both messy at our own wedding.” Jaehyun gave in with no protest, covering the back of a chair with the piece of clothing.
“You don’t look messy. You’re so fucking hot and beautiful.” Jaehyun’s eyes checked your body in full height, but you couldn’t focus on the twinkle in his eyes or the way his mouth curled into this self-satisfied grin, you leaned in and propped your chin on his shoulder, the safest option to not ruin both your make-up and hair.
“I feel so sick, Jaehyun, I’m going to throw up.”
“Baby.” Jaehyun grabbed onto your waist, peeling your face off his body to look you in the eyes. “Hey, sweetheart, it’s all good. It’s just an official ceremony. We’re already married, remember, right? Nothing’s actually changing for us. Want me to make the room cooler? I can lower the AC.”
“No, it’s okay, thank you.” You shook your head. “I’m just so anxious, and I-.”
“Want to see Sohee? Or I could turn some music on to light up your mood?”
“Yes, but also no, I’m genuinely going to vomit.” You grabbed onto you chest once again, trying to take a deep breath in and failing.
“You should. It’ll make you feel better. Did you have any food without me? Like, if it was food poisoning I’d be sick too.”
“I don’t know. I can’t breathe, I think it’s just an anxiety.” You patted your chest, caught with Jaehyun’s absolutely terrified eyes.
“Let me undo the corset.” His fingers pulled on your elbow before he said that, trying to free you of your obviously caging clothing.
“No, it’s going to take forever to get me back together. I barely fit into the dress.” You whined, one step away from breaking into real tears.
“No, baby, it’s going to make you feel better-.” Jaehyun talked to you with the softest tone, like you were his child. The tone he used to make Sohee eat veggies she didn’t like or make her take a nap during day time. Your heart gave up on you, but also your anxious self was mad. Mad that he was going for mushy softness, not straightforwardly telling you to pull your shit together because he needed you to. You would’ve appreciated that more.
“Jae, stop-.” You swallowed a wave of tears.
Jaehyun trailed his mouth over the peak of your clothed shoulder, eyes pleading for surrender. “Listen to your husband for once? Please?”
“Okay, okay!” You sighed, allowing him to turn you with your back to him and start undoing the lacing one by one. He pulled onto the lace, making it better with just one row of corset eyelets loose. You should’ve never protested. You shivered as his lips landed onto your bare shoulder blade. He left another one on the other side of your shoulder and you let out a sigh.”Better?” You gave him a little nod. “Good.” Jaehyun moved your hair out of his way, leaving a kiss right at your first vertebra, lowering his mouth down your nape and landing his lips at every one of them, making a trail down your spine.
“Baby, don’t get carried away.” You tried to blindly catch his head midway.
“I love you, you don’t have to worry about anything. I’ll make sure everything goes well. Always. Not only today, for the entirety of our lives, sweetheart.” Jaehyun raised his head up, pressing his cheek into your neck.
“I’m just so anxious. If our wedding gets leaked, I’m going to be so devastated. Your life will be ruined on our wedding day. Thinking of that gets me into a nervous wreck.” You admitted, moving your arm backwards, so you could wrap Jaehyun’s waist with it.
“Sweets, maybe it was a bad idea. This whole wedding ceremony thing.” Jaehyun suggested sweetly. “I shouldn’t have insisted on a big event.”
“No, our parents would’ve disowned us without one. And Taeyong. He’d also disown us.” Jaehyun sneered at that against your skin. “Promise you’ll make sure it’s not going to end up like the biggest exposure of the century or something worse for you?”
“No one will know. We made sure of that, honey. I swear. We can cancel this right now, it doesn’t even matter, all I care for is that we’re married on paper and we’re going on our honeymoon in a few weeks. I couldn’t care less for wedding photos and gifts, if it’s giving you this much anxiety.” He turned you around in his hold, running his fingers through your hair carefully.
“No, it’s okay. Wedding photos are very important for our moms. They’ve been picking the perfect hanboks for 3 months, we can’t let them down.” Jaehyun chuckled. “I’ll get my shit together in a minute.”
“I love you. So much.” Jaehyun leaned in, mouth darting towards yours, while you virtuously dodged the kiss. Holding his face in your hands, you felt his skin under your thumbs, soothing out the skin on his cheeks.
“Baby, I can’t kiss you right now. My lipstick is going to be smudged all over your mouth.” You ran your thumb over his lips to calm Jaehyun down.
“Fuck it, I want you.” Jaehyun whined, arms groping your lower back and thigh. You hugged his shoulders and chuckled into his ear, tapping his back with your palm, signalling for him to not get his hopes up. “Okay, I’m also going to get my shit together in a minute.” He chuckled, moving his arms off your ass and into your hold, leaving a little space between your bodies. “Remember how I asked your permission to make my relationship vaguely public?”
“I wouldn’t want that.” You shook your head, stress paralysing your body.
“Neither you or Sohee would’ve been exposed, baby. But the difference is that you would not need to make yourself sick over worrying that this will leak. People could’ve been expecting our wedding.” He shrugged like it was the simplest thing in his life. Letting all of his achievements slip through his fingers because he was not growing out of his obsession. Sweet, heart-warming, reciprocated obsession, that put in danger every thing he worked for. It haunted you. Letting his life get ruined like that because of you was devastating. You were devastated at the thought. To an extent that all the anxiety in your body piled up in your throat and went even higher.
“Fuck.” You gasped, feeling the wave of nausea hitting your throat. “Can you help me out of the dress?” Jaehyun looked at your crinkled face, immediately pushing the dress down your torso in one swift motion and helping you step out of it. His face showed pure astonishment as he properly registered your bare body, safe for panties, in front of him, pacing through the room to the attached bathroom and dropping onto your knees in front of the toilet. You emptied out your stomach, hearing the footsteps behind you, right after that the soft material of Jaehyun’s jacket, the only piece of clothing that was available in this room to cover you up, hit your shoulders. “My fucking make up.” You cried out, as the other wave hit you and the remnants of your breakfast ran down the toilet.
“Baby.” Jaehyun squeezed your shoulder with a little force, lips pressing into the back of your head. “Should I cancel this?”
“No, no. Just like you said, I’m feeling so much better now.” You moved back against the wall, taking a few breaths in. You did indeed feel less sick, except for the terrible taste in your mouth you got up to wash away. Jaehyun’s jacket fell of your shoulders as you carefully wiped your mouth to not mess up whatever was left of your appearance. Jaehyun carefully wrapped an arm over your chest, somewhere in between his wish to cover you up and touch you. “I think I’m getting my period soon, my chest is sore.” You felt a little discomfort as Jaehyun’s fingers pressed into you more, letting go after he registered the comment.
“Can it be Sohee? Teething and chewing your nipples?” Jaehyun returned his hand with a lot more care, barely touching you at all.
“No, that also, but this is a different type of pain.” You were lucky enough to suffer through two types of boob pain at the same time.
“My baby has to go through so much pain all the time.” Jaehyun whispered into your shoulder, mouth licking into the skin afterwards, getting softer with each lick of his tongue. You were surprised he was able to pull himself together without your warning. “We should get you dressed quickly if you’re feeling better and still want to do this wedding thing.” Your eyes darted at the clock through the open door. You had about 35 minutes to pull yourself together, Jaehyun was right - you needed to hurry.
“No, I obviously want to. Have to make all the bitches jealous I got myself the best man?” Jaehyun chuckled into your shoulder. “Can’t believe this lame joke just made you laugh.”
Jaehyun looked at you through the mirror. “I might have a weakness for you.” He tilted his head a little looking at you. You couldn’t hold back but smile at your husband.
Jaehyun’s eyes trained on your child the moment she was put on her two feet before your bridesmaids and you. Your eyes trained on Jaehyun’s face expression, the way his eyes got lost in the sincerest smile, dimples on full display. His palm reaching out for his pocket on automaton and you knew his first intention was to snap a pic. He quickly worked out he had no phone on himself and grabbed onto the pocket of his dress pants to contain at least a tiny bit of his feelings. Otherwise it looked like he was about to burst from his daughter’s cuteness.
She caught the familiar figure of her daddy and took off in his direction, getting into the spotlight and making every single person coo at her cuteness, wearing the white flowing angelic dress. You heard gasps as she didn’t turn the corner like she was supposed to and went straight to Jaehyun. You’ve had a feeling it’ll be this way and had Taeyong on the ready to catch her attention and make her go in the needed direction. With a little soft ‘Tee-Tee’ coming out of her mouth and forcing more cuteness aggression and gasps out of every grown up person in the room. Every other one of them fished a phone out of their purses and pockets to take videos of her running down the aisle. Your breaths stilled as you watched her taking steps, praying she won’t trip over her own legs as her steps were still unsteady.
You also thought how all these people now had a video of your baby on their phones, but you fought really hard to keep the anxiety at bay. There was no guarantee all of them knew whose child it was, you had to swallow the lump down your throat, it was your turn to walk out, and you looped your arm around your dad’s tightly, unsure of your own ability to walk right this moment.
Jaehyun’s mouth fell the moment his eyes properly landed on you, teeth hiding his lower lip completely as he tried to, you guessed, contain himself from emoting too much. You smiled softly, cheering him on as his teeth chewed down his lip, eye darting away from your figure and into the ceiling. Your own eyes began to water as you watched Jaehyun fight his emotion. Your dad stopped and you followed, Jaehyun locking gazes with you and taking away every other thought from your head. His fingers wrapped yours and you lost connection with whatever was happening in the room. Only he mattered. You loved him so much, you’d do anything for him. You’d do anything for the love of your life.
“I'm not sure if this is a good opening for a wedding vow, but ever since Taeyong introduced me to his best friend, I was certain I wanted to marry her. And I know it took some time for you to warm up to me, but you, standing here right now with me, it’s my proudest achievement. Only our baby’s birth stands in one line with that.” Coos, cheers and chuckles erupted from your friends and family as Jaehyun took a little pause to grin at you.
“As I stand here in front of all my family and friends, I realise there are no words big enough to truly express how I feel about you. I’ve never loved anyone this deeply until I met you. I’ve never felt my love for someone be so real. You are my love, baby.” Jaehyun’s voice dropped an octave. You could tell that last line was improvised by the feelings that overwhelmed him right this moment. You felt the teardrops gingerly fall down your face the same moment your gazes crossed once again. Jaehyun couldn’t register you started crying in the short blink he gave you, no emotion showing on your face other than attentive listening. You were listening and not feeling like you deserved all this love Jaehyun had for you. Not when you put him through hell about two years ago.
“You are my support, my strength, my safe place. You believe in me when I doubt myself, and you always take my side. Even when I don’t deserve it.” You couldn’t hold back from mouthing you always deserve it back at him.
“I can’t imagine ever again waking up and not having you as part of my life. And I know what I’m talking about, I had to go through it once.” You heard Taeyong whispering something under his breath to the other best man, and felt glad Jaehyun held your hand, because you knew you would’ve smacked him otherwise.
“I love you for everything you are - your kindness, your patience, your unwavering love. You are the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Standing here with you, I feel more complete than I ever have, and I thank fate for guiding us to each other. And maybe Taeyong.” Chuckles ran through tables of guests. “Our little family, our baby - these are the blessings I treasure most, and I promise to cherish and protect them always. Through life’s ups and downs, I vow to do everything in my power to keep you smiling, to keep you safe, and to love you endlessly. Both of you.
I might not always be perfect, but I vow to love you fiercely every single day, to support you in every way I can, and to never take for granted the love and care that you give me.
And just so we’re clear. Now, that I have you as my wife, I’m yours forever. I won’t let go, I won’t let doubt or fear come between us. Take this as a threat.
I love you more than words can say, and I promise to spend my life making sure you feel it every single day.” Jaehyun leaned in, pressing his mouth into the corner of yours with chastity. “The only two times I needed you is now and forever. I love you so much, baby.” Jaehyun whispered into your temple and moved back, taking a few blinks to focus on you. Before you could raise your hand to wipe the tears away from your cheek, the pads of Jaehyun’s thumbs were wiping the wet stains away. Your eyes darted over to your parents, mom’s wiping the tears away from their eyes, while the rest of your guests made the room erupt in loud cheers. You found the perfect timing to lean in.
“Can I dip out of this?” You whispered to Jaehyun, not letting others hear your nervousness, and also hoping it’ll make both of you crack a smile. Jaehyun took your fingers in his, giving you strength to start telling him your vows. “I often think of how we began. How much I resisted to let you in, because I was convinced you plotted to steal my best friend away.” Taeyong was the only one to laugh, well aware of that story. But it turned out that I resisted the greatest love in my life. It’s my honour, really, to be by your side as you shine through life.” Jaehyun whimpered a little embarrassed stop. “And I don’t even mean your celebrity, idol, whatever they call you, life. I mean you being my guiding star in life, helping me find the right path, fighting with me over my stubbornness and love for suffering when it comes to picking jobs.” Jaehyun ran his tongue over his teeth, holding in a smile. “I know how hard it is to live with me, to love me, and I thank God every day he gives you enough strength to endure me.” His fingers squeezed yours, shaking his head disapprovingly at the comment.
“I am grateful every day for your patience, your understanding, and for the way you always see the best in me, even when I can’t see it myself.
You are my partner, my confidant, my best friend, I’m so sorry TY, and the love of my life.” You glanced behind your husband at your best friend.
“I vow to support you through every challenge, to celebrate every joy, and to stand by your side during difficult times. I know how it’s important with your job, to have a support system that would be with you through it all, and I’m trying very hard to be that in a field I know nothing about. I know the advice I’m giving can be dumb sometimes, but I thank you for never letting me know it is so. I hope that through the course of our life I’ll continue being the one you turn to in all your hardships, because we are married. We’re in this together.” You couldn’t hold back your own smile at these words. “I will always try to ease your stress, help you with your struggles. Be your anchor in the stormy weather.” You gave him a half-smile, feeling Jaehyun’s fingers tighten over yours. His mouth saying you are. “I always tell you this, it disgusts me a little, that I can love a man like this - feeling like I’m not having enough oxygen when you’re not next to me, when I don’t know when I could see you next time. When I fight with you over who loves Sohee more. But, for all I know, you’re the only man on this planet that’s worth of putting all this love into. I know, that your kind heart and endless will to make me happy are something I’m blessed to have. We both are blessed to have. I could tell you a million I love you’s, but those words somehow still will never express what I truly feel for you.
I’m thankful for your selfness and for putting up with my absolutely selfish and stupid ways of handling things. I’m so thankful you fought me when I tried to make you believe I didn’t love you. I’m thankful because I’ve never stopped loving you, I never will. I could continue with I love you’s, but I fear everyone else in the room are already tired and disgusted.” Taeyong, again, taking the spotlight of the day made a little comment under his breath and making people at the nearest tables chuckle. “I was thinking of what could I tell you in my vows, what will be significant to me, and foremost to you. Something, that would make you certain, that marrying me was one of the best decisions in your life, dare I say the best?” You raised your shoulder up flirty and Jaehyun smiled widely.
“I came to conclusion, that you’d be the happiest once I tell you, that :
I do want to have more babies with you;
I will consider staying on maternity leave for another year.”
You didn’t expect Jaehyun to let out an actual happy little woohoo at that and give your knuckles a peck, making everyone in the audience giggle. “But sincerely, you are my everything, and I am so grateful to share my life with you.
Today and always, I give you my heart, my soul and a promise that I’ll listen to you more as you say something, not after life shows me you were right. I love you, Jeong Jaehyun.” You wanted to also leave a chaste kiss on his mouth, soaking in the applause of all your guests.
“I love you, baby.” Jaehyun whispered to you, catching your head mid-action and turning you around, making his back hide you from public. You first wanted to ask why he’d do that, but his mouth latched onto yours frivolous and hungry way before that. You had to grip onto his biceps, losing balance at the motion. His friends immediately let loud cheers out of their mouths, whistling, screaming and clapping with full force, making the rest of the guest catch up to that. Jaehyun licked into your mouth, hyped by the sounds behind him, leaning into you more. Your hand moved up to his jaw, catching him in your hold and forcing off your lips. You feared all those cameras in people’s phones also filmed that. Jaehyun gave in, allowing for you to move his head like you wanted to and rested his chin on your shoulder in a hug.
“How are you feeling? You look… unwell?” Jaehyun reached a hand to pat your back, lips landing on your temple. You were feeling exactly how you looked, all those people, scents, drinks, it felt too overwhelming. Once everyone walked up to you for congratulatory words, the nausea hit you like brick. You had no idea that you were such an anxious person before your wedding day.
“I am, unwell. Food scents make me nauseous again.” You folded into Jaehyun’s frame.
“Baby.” Jaehyun cooed, taking your face in his hand. “Let’s go home.”
“We can’t leave this early.” You whispered into his cheek, breathing in the scent of his skin, the only scent that could calm your guts down.
“Sweetheart, stop worrying, please. Fuck reception. Fuck the celebration. We did the ceremony, did all the official proceedings, took photos. Remember how an hour ago you promised to listen to me more? My priority is your well being.” Jaehyun caressed your nape.
“I love you.” You simply kissed his mouth, letting him know you’ve agreed.
“Thank god. I’m going to ask my mom if she’s okay to take Sohee for tonight.” Jaehyun pressed his digits into the base of your neck to calm your anxiety down.
“No, it’s okay.” You protested, latching onto Jaehyun’s arm. “That’ll make it look like we’re planning to fuck all day and night.” You whispered discreetly.
“If you magically end up being well by the time we arrive home, then yes, making love to you through the whole night will be the plan. People guessed these things happen to us the first time they heard you were pregnant, love.” Jaehyun snickered, squeezing your side.
“Okay, do your thing. I’m just going to go there and check on her.” You gestured towards your mom.
“Tell Sohee I love her!” Jaehyun shouted as you walked in different ways.
“I won’t. You’re already her favourite parent.” You whispered to yourself.
You fell asleep as soon as you arrived home and Jaehyun told you to get into the bedroom and lay down for a little while. You dozed off in a second and woke up hours later. The sky turned dark already and Jaehyun on the bed next to you ate fruit, fresh out of shower.
“Hi, pretty. Feeling better?” Jaehyun reached a palm to you, inviting you to roll over to his side. You gladly accepted the invitation and tucked yourself into his side.
“My sweet-sweet husband.” You cooed, pressing your mouth into Jaehyun’s clothed chest. “I love you.”
“How are you feeling, baby?”
“Good, love the new shower scent.” You tucked your face in the crook of his neck. “Or is it just you?” You pressed your mouth into his neck, peppering kisses down the column of his neck. “It could be you…, I want you, deep and slow.” You crawled onto his lap, taking the plate with his food onto the bedside table and smoothing your palms over his chest. “Though I would like to take a shower first.” You were still wearing the second dress you had prepared for your wedding.
“Mmh, go on, I’ll be able to wait on you here.” Jaehyun pecked your mouth.
“Okay.” You straightened your back and wanted to roll over.
“Wait.” Jaehyun pulled you back into his lap by your wrist. “Do this while you’re in the bathroom.” Jaehyun turned to his bedside table and reached something out to you, hiding the item behind his palm. You expected some sort of nausea pills, only to realise he’s extending a pregnancy test to you as Jaehyun opened his palm up.
You furrowed your brow, looking at his hand like it was a wild suggestion.
“Nah-ugh.” You shook your head no and slid down Jaehyun’s body to get further away from his hand, ending up sliding down on his cock and immediately jumping off his lap overwhelmed. “I’m not pregnant.”
“Just to make sure.” Jaehyun took your palm in his hand and let the test rest there. “Okay?”
“Okay.” You agreed, leaning in to peck his mouth.
“Babe, can I come in?” Jaehyun knocked on the door, asking for permission like you weren’t his wife and he’s seen it all.
“Why are you even asking?” You peaked out, opening the door wide and sitting back down on the tub’s side.
“Privacy is everyone’s right.” You rolled your eyes at him in the mirror. “Did you do it?”
“Not yet.” You sighed. Jaehyun kneeled in front of you, chin resting over your knee.
“Why?”
“If it’s positive we won’t have sex.” Jaehyun giggled.
“If it’s positive we’ll have all the sex in the world. If you’re not pregnant, then we’re having even more sex.” Jaehyun wrapped his hands over your waist, mouth pressing into your bare knees.
“Promise?” You leaned into Jaehyun, foreheads pressing into each other.
“Swear.” Jaehyun kissed the corner of your mouth. “Want me to let you pee in peace?”
“Mmh, would probably be better.” Jaehyun chuckled and left the room. “Jae!” You whimpered as soon as you were done, laying the test face down.
“Yes?” He entered the room quickly, probably expecting you to know the result already. You didn’t, you were just scared to see it positive once again. You curled yourself into his side, hiding your face in his chest. The perspective of him being right suddenly made the whole procedure a near-death experience. You weren’t pregnant, you could tell you weren’t.
“You check it and tell me.” Your arms wrapped his waist, Jaehyun reaching out for the test and dragging you along.
“Think you’d be happy with another baby?” Jaehyun tickled your side before seeing the result.
“I have no clue.” You lied and made a mistake of raising your eyes and meeting Jaehyun’s judgemental stare. He knew you were lying before the lie left your mouth properly.
“Promise me we won’t be stupid kids about it this time? If we don’t want this to happen, there are ways to deal with it. We have to be rational and honest. Swear?” You could easily translate this into I won’t let you fuck us up once again.
“No, of course. Honesty is everything. And your baby inside of me is definitely going to make you all obsessed with me, and that’s a bonus for me. Right?” You pressed your mouth into his. Jaehyun caught up with confusion in your voice, pulling back to see the test.
“Okay.” You hid your face in his chest. “It has an emoji.” Jaehyun sighed and you couldn’t understand if it was a sigh of relief, or the upset sigh, or him not being sure about the result. You turned around in his hold confused, there wasn’t supposed to be any emoji at all. Your eyes immediately fell onto the word over the digital screen. There was no emoji. Jaehyun tricked you so you’d see the result yourself quicker.
“How did you know I was pregnant?” You gasped, head completely clouded. You couldn’t understand what was going on. How he even guessed it right, what you were supposed to do now at all.
“You won’t believe it.” Jaehyun held the test saying Pregnant tighter in his hold. You checked his eyes, he was on cloud 9 just from seeing the result of the only test you took, clearly contemplating how open he should be about his reaction before he could see yours. Obviously to match with you, knowing your history.
You couldn’t give him any reaction. You needed at least ten of these to make sure it’s correct and then a doctor appointment to make sure and settle with the idea.
“Well I guess I will.” You refrained from touching the thing with your own fingers, pressing yourself more into your husband.
“Your chest?” You snaked a palm between your bodies onto your boobs and looked at Jaehyun confused. “When I saw you on that chair, I unintentionally noticed how your breasts… they seemed fuller in that tight dress. And then you threw up, and I touched your bare skin, and I had the feeling it was this. I touched every part of you just yesterday and you were just you, every part of your body perfect against my fingers, and in the morning I couldn’t see you and then your breasts were definitely not the way you usually were. Still perfect, but you know-.” Jaehyun stuttered over his words at last.
“You are so right, the dress felt too tight, even though it was perfectly fine at the fitting.” You cried out, fist against your hip bone.
“Back when you were already pregnant with Sohee and we were still together, your chest felt bigger too, but I thought I was just being weird because I had no clue we were expecting a baby. This time it kinda connected.” Jaehyun moved his arm, to run it over your stomach.
“Can you really feel my chest change like that?”
“Of course I can, I touch you all the time. I can feel it all.” He murmured, and kissed your temple. “So how do you feel? What do you think? You haven’t said a thing.” Jaehyun smoothed the skin of your cheeks in his hold like you were a cat, test left on the sink.
“One test doesn’t really mean a thing.” You whispered unsure.
“You’re upset.” Jaehyun whispered back with his eyes searching yours. You could only guess he was looking for a sign you’d do something stupid. There was no sign, you weren’t planning to. You were just sick and tired, caught by absolute surprise and not able to process what this whole thing meant to your, seemingly uncontrollably, growing family. “It’s okay if you’re upset, talk to me, please, baby.” Jaehyun panicked, palms holding your face tighter than before.
“I-, I don’t know what I think. It’s just a single test and sometimes they’re coming out wrong. Sometimes it can be a false pregnancy. I’m confused.” You sighed out and hid your face in Jaehyun’s chest.
“It’s okay.” Jaehyun patted your back.
“I’m sorry I’m not as excited as you are. I wasn’t even slacking on my pills. I just wanted to have our second baby to be planned, and it seemingly is not going to be that way.”
“Didn’t you promise me more babies and to stay on maternity leave for another year just a couple of hours ago? You knew.” Jaehyun chuckled above your ear.
“I really did, huh. If it’s real and I’m pregnant, we’ll need a new place, this flat is too small for 2 babies.”
“I know.” He nodded.
“And I will need you to myself a lot more, I won’t be able to stay alone with two small kids as much as I do with Sohee only.”
“I know, sweetheart.” You raised your head, gifting a little smile to Jaehyun and he smiled relieved, sensing your approaching acceptance. “I love you.” He kissed your mouth chastely. “You’re a great mom whether it’s just Sohee or Sohee and our second baby.” Jaehyun’s palm pressed into your still flat stomach. “I really want to tell Sohee she’s going to be the big sister. Should I take her home?”
“Baby, we need to check with the doctor first that the test is correct.”
“I’m going to be a dad.” Jaehyun’s arms squeezed your body tightly, letting your arms wrap over his shoulder.
“You are a dad.” You chuckled, one arm wrapped over his shoulder, the other one caressing his cheek. Jaehyun smiled so widely, it was hard for you to not smile back, or not share his happiness and excitement.
“I think I could cry right now.” His forehead rested on your shoulder. “I love you.” Your neck shivered from all the kisses that fell on your skin. “I am the happiest man on earth.”

Lets not love each other is such a cute, heart-fluttering, and innocent romance to read. I really thought he would end up going to Japan. Im not sure how his parents will react, but at least they are together now. I imagine him still playing basketball in university maybe just for a club or something casual 🥰
I'm so glad you liked it 😊😊😊
Im sure jaehyun's parents are going to be furious once they find out about his decision, but they can't undo it
I do see him continue with basketball in university, i actually have a little plot for their college life 😉

LET'S NOT LOVE EACH OTHER

pairing: NCT Jaehyun x reader
genre: one-shot, strangers to lovers, angsty themes (them having to separate for college in a few months), smut, fluff, school!au, coming of age!au, Jaehyun basketball player!au
warnings: cursing, mentions of harassment (no graphic description, a pinch and a hug by a stranger), physical fight (Jaehyun with strangers, no graphic description), jail scene, police involvement, Jaehyun's mom is manipulative against reader, nickname 'babe' for reader, first time sex (m), denial of feelings
words: 15k
A whistle echoed through the empty hallway, drawing your attention to the source of the sound. “I’m not first in line.” Jaehyun gave you a half-hearted smile and fell on his butt next to your feet. “Do you know when Mrs. Lee comes?” Your eyes darted towards the wristwatch on your left hand.
“I was told to come by around four o’clock. Mrs. Lee’s class supposed to be over in ten.” You blinked at the boy that looked up at you. You smoothed your palms over your skirt in sheer nervousness. He was too close to the bare skin your skirt revealed and you smoothed your palms twice over the material for good measure. Jaehyun scratched his temple, fishing his phone out of the pocket and checking the lock screen for time.
“So in about 15 minutes.” He nodded, acknowledging the information and letting the back of his head rest against the wall. You let out a little sigh you didn’t know you were holding. Jaehyun’s presence added up to that nervous itch you had about your whole presence next to the principle’s office.
“What time were you supposed to show up?” You asked, stuttering by the end of your sentence as Jaehyun raised his eyes back up at you.
“She just told me to come by after practice.”
“I see.” You gave him a curt nod. You knew that Jaehyun as the part of the basketball team received privileged treatment. He was one of the school’s sports scholarship recipients. You guessed he was asked into principle’s office for some sort of favour for school he could do. Like representing your school at one of the events they did for publicity.
“Funny seeing you here, are you doing some social work for Mrs. Lee?” Jaehyun voiced out what you thought about him just a second ago. You almost told him how you thought the same thing, how you both weren’t the usuals in her office, but somehow ended up there on the same date.
“No, she thinks I slapped a girl.” Jaehyun rose to his feet, bewildered. You slid against the wall a step away from him, avoiding physical proximity.
“What?” You chuckled, it’s not like he knew what to expect from you. You were in the same year, sure. Knew each other on the basic level, but you might’ve become the type to slap others and he wouldn’t know.
“Spoiler alert, I didn’t.” You raised your arms up in surrender.
“I guessed so.” His shoulders slacked a little in what seemed to be relief. “I’m here because I fucked up on an essay and now she’s threatening my scholarship. I should be shaking down to my core in fear right now.” He rolled his eyes.
“And why are you not?”
“My dad would cover any expenses just to get me into that school. Even if I was a dumbass he’d still make sure I got in.”Jaehyun let out a chuckle and you weren’t sure it was a proud one.
“Really?” You also weren’t sure your parents were devoted to cover your school expenses no matter what.
“Yes, that’s his dream, to get me into that school. So he’ll do it no matter what. Personally I’d be more pleased with the scholarship way, but you know-.” Jaehyun trailed off.
“That school is which one?” You blinked at him, seemed like he have forgotten you weren’t familiar with each other to that extent.
“Oh, right. I’m going to Japan, Osaka University. You?” Jaehyun lifted his chin up at you in question.
“Wow, I’m just going to apply to SNU.” It was big, sure, but still not as big as what Jaehyun has set for himself. Truly the superstar of your school and probably soon enough town. Once he hits the Japanese Basketball League or whatever team he was doing this for, it will make him big.
“It’s not just SNU, going to The University is big for our town. And country.” You appreciated the hyping up he did for you.
“I guess, I could only brag if I get in.” You shrugged a little.
“Sure you will-.” Jaehyun attempted to continue this little psyching you into success thing.
“Ah, kids, you’re both already here? That’s good.” You heard Mrs. Lee’s voice as soon as she turned the corner, clinking of her door keys in her hand. “You can both come in.” She gestured with her hand to follow her in as soon as she was done with the door and you trailed behind, Jaehyun holding the door for you to walk in before him. “Y/n. I’m going to start with you first.” Mrs. Lee’s eyes landed on you and you panicked. You weren’t sure that being told off in front of another student was considered very good pedagogy in your book. You would’ve preferred Jaehyun staying behind that door. You panicked.
“I swear I never even touched her-.” You burst without Mrs. Lee giving you the word, but keeping it in seemed like an even wilder thought. You couldn’t possible allow for her to think you’re suddenly the type of person to slap others. You weren’t, and you had no good reason to do that either.
“Miss y/l/n, I’m aware of what happened.” Mrs. Lee steadily let you know, absolutely stoic in comparison to the tremble in your voice.
“Really?” You leaned in a little surprised.
“Of course, sweetheart, we watched through the security cams, you never touched Miss Jeon.” Her voice got a little softer and your shoulders lost half the weight they carried just a moment ago. “Accusations Miss Jeon made are way more of a serious crime than what you’ve done. It’ll be handled with the help of our counsellor and with a lot more seriousness.” Mrs. Lee’s eyes trained on the calendar she had on her table.
“But what have I done?” You looked at her confused. If you were pleaded not guilty, what did she mean with that?
“You’ve engaged with them verbally, and I believe you should never engage in verbal altercations with people with malicious intentions. This deserves some extra time thinking of your own behaviour.” You blinked blindly, guessing where she could possibly be leading this. Mrs.Lee’s eyes finally landed on you and then traveled over to Jaehyun that stood right next to you. “Here comes Mr. Jeong who suddenly decided to mess with his average grade.” You also looked over to your side to see Jaehyun. His finger tugged onto his backpack strap, eyes focused on Mrs. Lee. He clearly had a little fear bubbling up in his system, he was just good in keeping it at bay. “Do I remember correctly you got the highest grade in your class for that same essay?”
“The Master and Margarita one?” You clarified, not sure which one of the multiple essays you had to write recently she was referring too.
“Yes.”
“You’re correct.” You did get the highest grade, same went for the test you had to take on the book. You might’ve had a little more spare time than usual to analyse what you read, that’s how you got the highest points, nothing more.
This also was the reason you were accused of slapping someone. Hanni and Ryo from your class thought they’d excel and they didn’t.
“Then I’m sure helping Mr. Jeong return to his average grade is not going to be difficult for you. You,” her finger pointed at Jaehyun. “Are going to re-do the test and the essay next Friday.” You barely held in a sigh.
The book was part of the world literature course you had to take. This specific book chosen as a punishment for disrupter of the literature curriculum by a few students. Mr. Kim had emphasised how complex and profound the book was, something studied in literature clubs or in university literature courses. That’s why Hanni and Ryo lit up with excitement, literature majors to be.
Anyway, you hated that you had to go back to that. Also hated how Jaehyun’s scholarship was on your shoulders, you hoped he understood of such implication also and hated it as much as you did-.
“Okay.” He agreed easily, you held in another gasp. He wanted his grades back to normal, considered you capable to help him with that. You’ve already visualised running back home and reading every expert review on the internet to make sure you got the right words to explain the complexity of the book to Jaehyun.
You gave them both a nod, unaware though how on earth would you even help someone on an essay, describing the plot would still not help him on writing thousands words about it. What did Mrs. Lee want you to do?
Help him read the book? Make sure he read it? Read it for him?
“And your incident will be forgotten once I see a good grade under Jaehyun’s name in the grade book.”
“Okay.” You nodded again, and looked at Jaehyun who gave you the weakest of smiles.
“So, when are you free?” Jaehyun ran his fingers through his backpack without paying much attention to what he was doing. You wondered what he was looking while looking at you. “I have a lot of practice, but it’s mostly right after class and evenings are generally free time for me. Does Wednesday work?” He suggested and finally glued his eyes to the backpack.
“I’m, well, I am free whenever you are. Don’t do sports.” You shrugged and felt a little bewildered when Jaehyun raised his head and smiled at you. Both his dimples imprinting the image of his face in your mind. “Wednesday sounds good.” You nodded and pressed your teeth into your lower lip to not smile back. Jaehyun took a few more seconds looking at your face.
“You know what?” He paused, making an illusion of him expecting an answer out of you. “How about tonight?”
“You mean right know?” Your brows furrowed at the suggestion. You weren’t busy for the evening nor were you against the suggestion, but it would’ve been clearly better if you did that internet search before starting with your help. Good thing Jaehyun looked ahead of him and didn’t see the struggle.
“Mm-hmm.” He nodded nonchalantly, taking steps towards the exit.
“I guess yes, I’m free.” You nodded then.
“Cool.” Jaehyun nodded too, finally looking over his shoulder at you. “It’s a study date then.”
“Sure.” You trailed behind Jaehyun. “Where are we going?” You expected that you’ll stay somewhere on school grounds, like the library where he could get the book, at least.
“My parents own a raw marinated crab place, if you don’t mind, we could do it there? I could really use some food right now.” You didn’t know why he felt the need to explain to you any of that, you knew what his parents did. Everyone in school probably did. Your town was small, their place was probably the only one serving crab in the area.
Everyone’s been there at least once in their life.
“Sure.” You nodded and gave him a smile when he turned around to glance at you, again.
“Do you know any other words?” He slowed down his walking, allowing for you to walk casually next to each other, not you trail right behind him like before.
“Su-.” You closed your mouth, Jaehyun’s mouth turning upwards without showing you his teeth. “I do know other words, clearly. I’m just agreeing with you.” You explained as if he needed you to.
“Do you eat spicy food?”
“Sure-. Ugh, yeah, I’m okay with spicy food.” You weren’t trying to be that awkward on purpose. You were just suddenly smitten with the way his eyes trailed all over your face whenever he listened to you talk.
“You’re cute.” Jaehyun chuckled to himself. “I think we last talked back in like… fifth grade?”
“Probably? When you smashed a basketball during PE against my head in 8th grade was the latest one for sure.” You chuckled and suddenly felt that pain in your head once again.
“That wasn’t intentional.” Jaehyun scrunched his nose, shrugging his shoulder.
“Twice?” Within 10 minutes also.
“I’m sorry you still remember that.” Jaehyun shook his head apologetically. You weren’t even mad at him, haven’t thought of that day before you’ve talked to him today. Now all the rear encounters you’ve had with him flashed before your eyes.
You walked up to the door with the Jeong’s Crab sign hanging above and didn’t need Jaehyun turning to the door to know you were at your destination. You’ve been here before.
He walked in first, holding the door for you once again and letting you walk in before him.
“Mom, it’s me.” Jaehyun announced with lungs full of air. His mom immediately emerged from the kitchen, taking a look at her son. Her eyes traveled over on you, and they expressed nothing, you weren’t a stranger to her. You’ve met, and talked, and she knew you by your name for sure. She wasn’t surprised to see you here. Maybe, just curious why together with her son.
“Y/n, darling! It’s been so many years!” She clapped her hands before her chest and crossed the dining area to you two. You watched the people at the tables turn their heads at the sound.
“Mrs. Jeong, it’s so nice to see you.” You gave her a little bow.
“Y/n’s going to help me with my literary class assignment.”
“Of course, of course. Take a seat. I’m going to bring you food in a minute, sweetheart.” She patted Jaehyun’s cheek. “How was the practice?”
“Good.” Jaehyun gave her the curtest reply. So teenage-boy-like. You held in a laugh.
“Why did you call that an assignment?” You jumped in on his wording as soon as his mom gave you space.
“I didn’t tell her I fucked up the essay. The only condition I had staying for a week in Japan is that it’ll not fuck with my grades, and it did exactly that.” He grumbled lowly.
“You should’ve just read the book.” You blinked at him, smirk adorning your mouth before you saw Jaehyun’s face expression. After you did, you let your mouth fall into a straight line.
“Would you read a fuck ass book written by someone hallucinating off drugs or would you do anything you wanted, if you were in Japan? For a week? All by yourself?” Jaehyun’s brow rose up to challenge you. There was no challenge needed, if you were in Japan with him, you would’ve not read the book either. Not like with him, instead of him, obviously.
“I think I would choose the latter.” You agreed non-discretely as his mom reappeared with side dishes to put on the table. Jaehyun nodded in agreement.
“What do you want to drink? I’ll get it from the fridge.” He stood up, eyes trailing to the fridges.
“Ugh…” you didn’t need to look over to know your options. “Chilsung will be good.” With a nod he trailed off.
“Do you have the book?” You asked as soon as Jaehyun returned to the table.
“No, ask me anything else. I can’t digest the school conversation yet.” Jaehyun’s eyes looked sad, which made you want to continue the school conversation, ask him what was up with that. But you opted no to do that, you haven’t talked in years and you had no intention to make him mad.
You just had a wild guess his pride was hurt and he tried to not think of the mess he made with his average grade, was mad to ask for help from you. You also had a wild guess that basketball, or his chosen university would make his mood lighter.
“Why did you pick Japan?” You smiled, leaning into the table a little. The last real conversation you had was probably the argument you had about SNSD and 2NE1 on your way back home from school when you were eleven. You were just curious to talk with him.
“I did not. I was only allowed to pick a major. School was on dad, like I said.” He took the chopsticks roughly from the table storage and pressed them against the surface to even them out in his hold. You didn’t even flinch at all the noise he made, he’s always been rough-handed.
“Really?” Your eyes widened a little. The last impression you had of him was Jaehyun being the freest boy, allowed to do whatever the hell he felt like doing.
“Yes, before you ask about basketball, I didn’t really pick that for myself either. I tried to quit many time, but thanks to mom I’m here and I’m doing good in it. Am I planning to continue? Not really. Do I hate it? Also no, I just never picked it as something I wanted to consume my whole life.”
“Wow, okay.” Your mouth opened confused, then closed. You had no idea how he read through your next question, had no idea how on earth he guessed the follow up to that also. You got quiet not because you were hurt of the way he talked to you, you went quiet because that was all the information you had about him. You exhausted all the general information you had on him and now to continue you had to… be his actual friend?
“I’m sorry I’m coming off rough.” Jaehyun apologised, trying to catch your gaze. You wondered if he sensed himself going too hard on you.
“It’s nothing.” You shook your hand in front of him, you weren’t about to waste your energy on that.
“It’s not an excuse to be a dick, but I fell at the practice today. Hit the back of my head and it’s just falling apart.” He ran a hand over his face with a lot of force. “It’s been killing me for the past hour and I’m reaching the point of madness.”
“How did you manage to do that?” You furrowed a brow, he wasn’t just an average player, he was good-good. There were boys in every year at your school that praised him like he was Michael Jordan himself. Michael Jordan don’t just trip over his feet at practice, you were sure.
“We got a new guy on the team, and I guess he was trying to impress the coach. He pushed me in the chest when I wasn’t looking and went off showing his skills, while I was sitting on the bench with my head splitting in two.”
“Were you checked on? Not like you have a concussion or anything?” Jaehyun blinked at you for a few seconds, showing you his dimples afterwards. “We should’ve stuck with Wednesday like you first suggested.”
“I’m fine, don’t worry. I’m just mad about the whole thing, being mad makes the headache worse.” Jaehyun chewed onto his lip. “Being here with you seems to make the headache go, though.” You intentionally let that comment go.
“I’m sorry. It’s not fair sportsmanship, has anyone seen him do that to you?” Jaehyun shook his head, clearly wishing to drop the conversation.
“What about you?” He leaned in a little on his elbows.
“Huh?”
“Aren’t you mad about those girls acting like you slapped one of them?”
“Well, sure I am. I’m just relieved it all ended well for me.”
“I’m sorry you got dragged into this.” He sighed and you weren’t sure if he meant himself or the slapping accusations. You guessed he was talking about himself.
“Helping you doesn’t sound too bad. Not like I’m going to write that essay once again. I, anyway, barely imagine how I could help. You just need to… read the book? Unless you don’t know how to read and need me to read it for you.” You giggled to yourself.
“Well I don’t.” Jaehyun threw those words deadass seriously at you.
“Don’t what?” Your brow gave out your emotions.
“Know how to read.” He blinked at you emotionless, waiting for a proper reaction you could give. There was no doubt he was shitting you, but still. You looked at him confused for a few seconds before you processed it.
“Ouch.” You opened the bottle of cider he brought you. “How did you go through Michael Jordan’s autobiography then?”
“Audiobook.” You couldn’t hold back a little laugh surpassing your mouth, cracking a smile first and giggling into your palm after.
“Fair enough.” You nodded, sipping on the drink.
“Would you though?”
“Would I what?” You ran your fingers over your hair, reaching for your chopsticks afterwards and going through the same process as Jaehyun did with evening them out in your hold.
“Read it for me if I asked?” Jaehyun’s eyes twinkled with playful mischief, crooked grin tugging at his lips, as if he was daring you to catch on to the joke hidden behind his teasing glance.
“If only you were truly unable to read.” you bent your head slightly, eyes meeting his with a mischievous sparkle, batting your eyelashes softly.
“I have a really tough time with reading.” He gave you a little pout and you fell right into that trap.
“Really? You’re dyslexic?” You’re mouth made a round shape.
“No, I’m doing basketball, school, assignments, I have to also help here, and by the time I have time to read I’m so tired I fall asleep on the second page.” Jaehyun bit into his cheek.
“You really need to rest.” You stated the obvious.
“My grandma says I can rest all I want once I’m dead.” Jaehyun’s eyes rolled into his head.
“I can see why you’re all keen to go to Japan.” You had to admit he was having it tougher than you are.
“Glad you can understand.” He nodded.
“Anyone could understand that.” You furrowed your eyebrow.
“There are many that don’t.” Jaehyun shrugged and dug into his food.
“Well, fuck them then, I guess.” You shrugged also, reaching your chopsticks for the deliciously smelling crab.
“How did you know I still like Michael Jordan anyway?” Jaehyun walked you back to your house, despite you telling him it was okay not to. Now, the backs of your palms met for the briefest moment, only to wobble apart again every ten steps you took.
“If your collection of Jordans, PE shirts saying Jordan on the back since, like, third grade are any indicators… I guess it was just my lucky guess.” You turned around to give him a little smile. Jaehyun returned it, giving you acknowledging nods. Your palms pressed together once more, but instead of separating on their own, Jaehyun wrapped his fingers over yours and held them in his grasp. You glanced over at the boy walking beside you, holding your hand, simply looking straight ahead. His undoubtedly handsome features betraying no emotion.
It seemed he gave you a moment to get used to his touch, because when you turned your head back to look ahead, he shifted his palm and laced his fingers through yours. You didn’t dare to look at him this time, feeling your heart pounding in your ears. You gave his hand a gentle squeeze, and he squeezed back in response. You walked through the street hand in hand.
“This is where I live.” You broke off the silence, gesturing with your locked hands in front of you.
“Oh wow.” Jaehyun raised his head surprised, you didn’t know what that gasp was supposed to mean. “I didn’t know you moved. My best friend lives two houses down the road.”
“Oh wow.” You mirrored his reaction and stopped, your heart pounded in your chest at the thought of what could follow. You were right at the gate, turning to face him. Jaehyun let go of your hand, and you seized the moment to hide your fingers behind your back, locking them tightly, mainly to hide your nervousness on the situation. His affection was so sudden, so unexpected, and yet it didn’t really shock you.
“Thanks again for letting me waste some of your time,” Jaehyun said softly, a gentle smile playing on his lips.
“If you need my help with anything, just text me.” Jaehyun nodded, and you returned the gesture, your eyes lingering on his face. As you reached for the gate, Jaehyun moved ahead of you and closed the distance. His eyes flicked to yours just before he leaned in, and then his lips pressed softly against yours. The moment froze, your breath hitched, and you felt your body go stiff with surprise.
It wasn’t your first kiss, you’d shared kisses with boys before, but it still made you freeze. Jaehyun’s lips were warm and gentle, and there was, clearly, sincerity behind the action. You felt a rush of warmth flood through you, a mixture of shock and pleasure.
Jaehyun pulled back slowly, eyes searching yours. You felt breathless, cheeks flushed. “But you’re going to Japan soon,” you whispered, your voice trembling slightly as your gaze flicked across his face, trying to read what he was thinking.
“If you’d want me to, I’ll go back-and-forth every weekend for you.” he replied softly, his voice full of emotion.
A smile tugged at your lips as Jaehyun’s lips brushed yours again, this time more lingering. As he pulled back, an overwhelming rush of energy surged through you. Without thinking, you opened the gate and waved at him with eager enthusiasm, though it was obvious your nerves were behind your cheerful gesture. Then, you quickly disappeared behind the fence.
Within the second you felt your mind change. You peeked back out, just in time to see Jaehyun hadn’t even turned around yet. Heart pounding, you took a tentative step back out and closed the distance between you. Pressed palms gently into his shoulders, leaning in to meet his lips once more. You kissed him softly, deliberately. You left a gentle peck, feeling the faint beat of his heart beneath your palms.
Jaehyun smiled, opening the gate himself this time, leading you home and closing the gate right before his face, separating you.
“Hey.” Jaehyun sat down at the desk before you, arms folded on the backrest of his stool.
“Hey.” You raised your head and smiled. “What’s up?” your eyes scanned the classroom. A few girls whispered over Jaehyun’s presence next to you, the rest were clearly busy with their own stuff, giving you enough privacy.
“I was going to do what you told me - text you if I needed anything, but turns out I don’t have your phone number.” Jaehyun laid his phone on your table, above the notebook you were scribbling in. Unlocked for you to type in your phone number, and you did just that. Jaehyun watched your fingers move over the screen, taking the phone in his hand. He ran his eyes through your phone number, shook the phone in his hand, mouthed thank you, got on his feet to lean in and kiss your cheek and walked out the class. You watched him out and behind the door. Jaehyun turned around and looked you in the eyes through the glass on the door and put the phone to his ear.
Your phone vibrated in silent mode in your bag. He watched you reach over for the said bag, find the phone and go through the digits of the unknown phone number with your eyes. You slid your finger over the green button and put the phone to your ear, locking gazes with Jaehyun.
“Hi.” He half-whispered.
“Hey.” You spoke back, something about the way he looked at you made it so tantalising.
“I think I heard you say your evenings are typically free?”
“You heard me right.” You gave him a nod.
“Good, because I want to book them.”
“All of them?” You couldn’t hide the shock on your face.
“Hm, yeah. Preferably. If you’d want that also, we could start with tonight and see what’s up.” Jaehyun’s eyes were running all over your face in a clear sign of nervousness.
“I’m cool with that.” You smiled, teeth teasing the plumpness of your lower lip.
“Cool.” Jaehyun nodded and bit onto his lip also. “I’ll text you after practice.”
“OK.” You smiled and watched him put his phone away in his pocket.
It was so easy to be with Jaehyun. It was so easy to be someone he liked. It was so easy to be his girlfriend, even though you’ve been one only for a week, you knew it can’t get any less than what you already had.
Jaehyun’s fingers played with yours as he led you through his house up the stairs to his bedroom. As soon as you were inside, he got you to his bed and sat down, pulling you to lean into him and sit, ending up halfway on his bed, halfway on top of him.
Your arm wrapped over his neck, getting his face closer to yours, Jaehyun’s palms spreading over your back to give you support. You guessed he didn’t invite you over to play his Play Station, you had a good guess you were here for sex and you had no intention to hold that back from him. Not when you liked him so much. Already.
“Hey, babe, wait a second.” Jaehyun put his palms on your cheeks, pulling you back.
“You don’t have to pep talk me, I’m down for it.” You tried to get closer to his mouth once again.
“It’s not that.” Jaehyun unwrapped you from his neck. “We should’ve talked about this before I asked you to date me.”
“About what?” Your brow furrowed. You hoped he wasn’t about to tell you he was just excited to see his result on the essay and regretted making you feel like there was more.
“I don’t want us to break each others heart when school ends and we have to inevitably separate.” Jaehyun dropped his hands, giving his back a bit of support.
“I get it, you’re going to Japan, I’m not. I didn’t take your words about flying back and forth seriously, if you’re worried about that. I wouldn’t expect you to do that. Flying so much is bad for our planet and stuff-.”
“Babe, why are you like this?” Jaehyun’s shoulders slouched, fingers caressing your cheek.
“Because good things have to end eventually. And you might be the best thing that happened to me in school, only fair we have the exact end date settled. That way we can take care of our future selves from the start and spare the heartbreak.” You patted his head, returning your arm to rest around his shoulder.
“So you’re good with not taking me too seriously?”
“What do you mean?” You leaned into his touch more.
“We’ll have to promise not to love each other. Promise that we won’t involve our hearts into this.” Jaehyun moved your body up his thigh more.
“Just spending our evenings together, kissing each other, but not crossing the line, not going for more?” Your fingers trailed lines over the skin of Jaehyun’s cheek. "If we feel anything, we have to stop."
“Yes, nothing more. We can’t get too attached.” Jaehyun moved his hand up your spine, to match his words with his actions.
“We can’t.” You nodded and leaned into Jaehyun more. “I won’t come to your games, seeing you play would mean I truly care for you.”
“Sounds good. I won’t come see you between classes, that would mean I can’t stop thinking about you during school.” He focused his gaze on your lips.
“No, you have to come see me.” You brushed your mouth against Jaehyun’s, feeling his arms lock on your back once again.
“Really?” Jaehyun lifted you up, wordlessly hinting for you to sit on his lap properly.
“Yes, I would want to see you and talk to you. Just don’t do physical contact. If we’re not serious about this, there’s no point in letting people know.” You moved your face back, Jaehyun breathing out of his mouth heavily. You found his shoulders with your palms, pressing on them to lay him down. You leaned into his chest and kissed him once again. Jaehyun pulled you back, looking into your eyes.
“I will come see you as many times as you’ll want me to.”
“And then in hundred and ten days you’ll be gone.” You couldn’t hold back a pout. "Won't even remember my name after a month in Japan.”
“No, I’ll be gone only if you’ll want me to be gone. Otherwise I’ll be all over your phone.”
“But you won’t be here, touching my thighs.” Jaehyun’s fingers gave you a squeeze as you mentioned them.
“That’s why our plan is the only right way of handling our situation.” You nodded, allowing for Jaehyun to roll you over and get on top of you for more kisses.
You weren’t sure the plan was working. You weren’t sure your hearts weren’t involved in this relationship. Weren’t sure either of you kept within the bounds of casualty. The clock was ticking, the days were passing, you were down to 73 of those before his flight and despite knowing it from the start, it didn’t help with not feeling hurt. It seemingly progressed into more heartache with each passing day. But you weren’t even supposed to use your hearts.
You sat at the basketball field, another rule you’ve set and broke. Despite Jaehyun insisting on your presence in the first row, you opted for a seat at the back to not be the centre of his attention. Not make things known for the people if you never took it seriously. At least this one rule you were determined on keeping.
Jaehyun gave you a few smiles throughout the game and waved at you as soon as he spotted you in the audience. It was your first time watching him play. To give you both some acknowledgement, you held back for a month. You really tried, mutually, to not do things that’ll be considered taking the relationship more seriously than it was needed.
You still didn’t want to break each other’s hearts. You were still making sure you weren’t falling in love.
That’s why seeing his regular championship games was a bit too much, that’s why you promised to not see him play in the regular championship. Play-off’s though were big, they were a different thing, good time to come see him, know for yourself how good of a player he was, despite his whole act of not being into basketball much. He was definitely glowing on the field, smile not leaving his mouth, every one of his motions proving wrong what he’s been saying.
Maybe he liked being in denial about things he loved.
The game was going well for Jaehyun, for what you knew about basketball in the short period of time you’ve dated him it’s a good day for him when the opponent lets him shoot 3 pointers. Given by the score on the board, his wide smile and constant pats on his back from his teammates the game was going way better than well.
The crowd began to countdown as the game clock showed 15 seconds left, standing up and cheering loud. You counted down in your head also, remaining seated, but still excited for your school, whole basketball team and if you stopped lying, their forward. This win meant going into the second round of play-off’s and more games to visit for you.
The sound of a horn signalled the end of the game and Jaehyun let the ball drop from his hold, his teammates making him lost for your eyes in a group hug. More people emerged onto the field, both teams’ second players, coaches and just friends filling up the space. Cheerleaders going around to congratulate their acquaintances and favourite players. You rose to your feet to let people out, eyes glued to the field as someone tried to walk past you and go home.
Jaehyun caught your eye as another couple of students walked past you, running up two stairs at a time seemingly in your direction. He was just talked to by his coach last time you checked and now he was two rows lower, not a drop of tiredness on his handsome face. Just the happiest smile and wide open arms as he got closer to you. You ran down a few stairs before your feet lost touch with the ground and Jaehyun’s sweaty body wrapped around your waist, lifting you up.
“I’m sorry I’m so sweaty.” Was the first thing he told you when your arms moved back from hugging his neck to caressing his cheek and nape. Jaehyun put you back down, letting his palms rest on your lower back.
“It’s okay. Congratulations.” You smiled, contemplating whether or not you wanted to kiss him, whether or not he wanted to kiss you in front of everyone. You haven’t moved your eyes off his shiny happy stare, but you were convinced half the people on that field glanced over at you, wondering where their golden boy took off not two minutes after the game ended.
“I’m sure you’re my lucky charm.” He flirted. There was no chance he actually believed that, but regardless your mouths met halfway. You pressed against one another, Jaehyun’s fingers moving up onto your neck and then jaw to get you better angled and kiss you properly, when, you guessed, his friend made the loudest whistle that was audible even through the crowd noises, followed by specifically loud clapping of his palms, drawing more attention to you two.
“Off you go, champ!” He commented and Jaehyun finally worked out that this cheering was directed at him. He turned around to his friend to do something you couldn’t see, as his arm pressed you into his chest.
“I’m sorry, that’s Dokyeom, he’s a little crazy about relationships.” You chuckled into his chest, not caring for how wet the shirt was.
“It’s okay.” If we’re ignoring the fact we’ve broken another rule, we’re more than okay, right.
“I need to go back, but like I promised I’m all yours afterwards. I’ll try to be very quick, okay?” You nodded in response and Jaehyun’s mouth landed on yours for a peck. “Thanks.” His mouth covered yours again and then he took off, not taking a single look back.
You watched him run down the stairs and into Dokyeom’s arms, who seemingly continued with the teasing as his eyes trailed back over to you. Your own eyes focused on your phone as soon as you saw a few shocked face expressions over team’s cheerleaders, who’s eyes moved between you and Jaehyun for a few good seconds.
“We should pay you for spending your evenings here and serving food.” Jaehyun leaned over the counter for you to kiss his mouth, and you did what he wanted you to, taking the rice wine bottle out of the fridge afterwards.
“I’m doing that to hang out with you, huh.”
“You are?” Jaehyun teased, running around the counter to block your way to the table that waited for you to serve them.
“No, it’s the crab, I’m busted.” You feigned surrender.
“Thank god, I wouldn’t want to break your heart.” Jaehyun ran his thumb over your cheek, hugging you afterwards.
“63 days left.” You mumbled into his shirt.
“Babe.” Jaehyun called out for you, asking to see your face. “Don’t count it down.”
“Why? The date is set. The more I think about it now, less painful it’ll be on D-day.” You were convinced by now this was a lie. You hated saying goodbye to him, hated waking up and knowing that you had one less day to spend with him.
“Are you sure?” His brow furrowed reading through your lie.
“I’m not, but y-.” You sighed, holding yourself back from breaking down.
“Excuse me, kids, what about my rice wine?” A middle aged man called out for you and you jumped away from Jaehyun, running with the bottle to the table.
“We’d get fined for this, if we worked at a real restaurant.” Jaehyun chuckled as soon as you were back within the hearing ability from him.
“Good thing you’re the boss here.” You gave him a wink. With his parents being present at the restaurant you never allowed yourselves this much frivolity, knowing damn well you’ll get scolded.
“Good thing I’ll never be the boss here.” Jaehyun shrugged.
“You don’t plan to ever come back home?” You sulked without even realising you did so. You’ve never talked about his plan to return in four years, but you guessed it was natural for him to consider. Even if in four years you’ll barely remember each other’s names. Even if in four years you hoped you won’t be here either.
“I will, obviously, come back home eventually. I’m not sure when, but I will.” Jaehyun added reassurance to his voice after taking a glance at your face, like that promise could change anything about your situation.
“I still don’t understand why would you want to quit sports if you’re an excelling sportsman. You could become someone really great.”
“I’m not, and I don’t like basketball to be doing that for life. I want to have a proper job and by 30 if I’m not the next Michael Jordan I’m jobless back here serving drunk middle aged men. That’s not my dream, babe.” You blinked at the boy in front of you.
Looking for words to say, thoughts to share. It was still unbelievable for you to hear. A boy doing so well in sports in high school not willing to continue sounded too weird to be true. But it was true and you were flabbergasted every time he mentioned it, to say the least. “Speaking of middle aged men.” Jaehyun’s eyes rolled backwards as the door made a creaking noise and let 5 halfway-drunk men in. You watched Jaehyun cross the room and invite them to seat at any available table.
And there were plenty, Monday night was the slowest time of the week and that’s exactly why Jaehyun’s parents left you two in charge of the place for tonight, while they went to visit Jaehyun’s granddad. Any other day of the week they’d opt for just closing, you were sure.
“Their spirits are quite lifted.” You commented as Jaehyun got back to you, shoulders bumping into each other.
“I hope their order isn’t just 10 bottles of soju.” You blinked at him, he still cared for the business to earn money.
“I hope they’re not ordering any soju at all, I’m scared of drunk men.” You whispered into Jaehyun’s shoulder, his palm covering yours.
“Don’t worry, babe. I’m here.” The buzz from the button on their table made a little vibration through the counter and Jaehyun took off to serve them, pulling a smile on his face.
You watched their encounter all the way from the back. Watched the way their mouths moved, their eyes ran between themselves, menu and Jaehyun. You tried to eavesdrop, hear what they were settling on in terms of food, but they were talking all at once, not making it possible for you to distinguish what any of them were saying. Then your attention moved to the customers that wanted to pay. As you were done over there, Jaehyun already went over to the aunty in the kitchen and let her know the order.
“Good?” You searched his face for any signs of disappointment.
“Yeah, just 3 bottles of soju and 5 beers.” You weren’t sure this was good, they were already drunk and you were trying not to give in to the panic. You had a gut feeling they could bring trouble. Like start fighting with each other type of trouble. You wished you didn’t have that feeling, you also wished they were civilised drunk men. “Ordered three big sets.”
“Do you think we have a chance they’ll be done by the time auntie closes the kitchen?” Your teeth found your lip, knowing the answer.
“Absolutely not. Don’t know if I should tell them now or when they’re even more drunk.” Jaehyun contemplated, clearly unsure what would strike back worse at him.
“Why do I feel like we’re going to spend the night here.” You let a sigh out.
“Why do I feel the same way?”
You watched quietly how the men opened the soju bottles, mixed them with beers, clinked their glasses. All the loud sighs they made as they took their first sips and the way a wave of laughter ran through their company as one of them said something. Jaehyun went back over to the table to put the side dishes out on the table, not allowing you to go and serve them. You cleaned up the other tables for closing, took all the dishes over to the aunty in the kitchen.
“I can help you.” You volunteered, watching Jaehyun struggle with a mountain of food. He malfunctioned at first, looking over at you and then at that group of people. You and them, contemplating for another 2 seconds, before giving you a nod.
“Okay.” He nodded again, watching you reach out for plates, helping Jaehyun with raw marinated crab and spicy crab, while Jaehyun pushed the trolley with the gas burner and crab stew. You put the plates on the table, holding in your breath, even though you realised none of the men paid attention to you. You both were just invisible waiters, kids that served food.
Jaehyun lit up the fire, you put the very last plate on the table and was ready to take off, when one of the men raised his head and thanked you. He even gave you the smallest nod of acknowledgement and in that moment you felt like you acted dumb before.
Dumb for being scared and judging people just because they had a drink. You felt your breath get steadier. It won’t be as bad.
“I’m gonna go over there and tell them we’re closing in 15.” You volunteered again, watching these men getting progressively more intoxicated, ordering more drinks from Jaehyun.
“No. I’ll do it.” Jaehyun protested.
“It’s okay, I promise. They seem fine and I’m not scared. Better chance they’ll accept it from a girl, than you.” The concept of smiling politely and telling them in a soft voice it’s time to pack their shit and pay somehow seemed like a working concept.
“Okay, just tell them we’re closing and immediately leave. Don’t converse with them.” Jaehyun nudged you with a finger like you needed to be told that. You still knew better than not be cautious.
“Don’t act like they’re dangerous, they’re drunk and barely moving their limbs.” You leaned into Jaehyun, mouth pressing into his. “They’re just customers.” Jaehyun held onto your wrists, kissing your mouth once again.
You walked up on your tiptoes to the table and folded your palms. “I’m so sorry for interrupting, we’re closing in fifteen minutes, if you could just-.” You moved your eyes towards the door unintentionally. You didn’t mean to say get out, but you hoped they knew the meaning behind your eye movement.
“Oh sweetheart, I’m sure you won’t be closed in fifteen.” The nearest man to you looked over you with a smile and raised his arm. You first thought his arm raised to scratch his brow, forehead, any part of his body, really. But you felt an arm wrap over your lower back, so low you were pretty sure it wasn’t even considered the back anymore, and felt a pinch. Your mouth opened, and before you knew how to react you felt fingers wrap over your forearm and pull you away.
“Don’t you touch her!” Jaehyun’s voice was barely audible, you could see his shoulders shake in what you could only assume rage.
“Is that your little girlfriend?” The other man laughed and looked over at you with the nastiest smirk.
“Don’t even look at her!” Jaehyun growled. “Pay your bill and get out of here.” Jaehyun breathed heavily as he steadily tried to contain himself. He turned away then and made a crucial mistake. “Fucking pricks.” He mumbled under his breath.
“Come again, son.” The closest one to Jaehyun stood up and grabbed the sleeve of his shirt, turning Jaehyun around like a piece of paper, the boy clearly not expecting physical contact. “Really want to mess with us over your little slut friend?” The moment word slut left his mouth, Jaehyun’s fist was already on its way to the man’s nose. That drunk person fell to the floor immediately, holding on to his face that began to bleed right at the contact. Your scream shook the men back a little, as they began to gang up on Jaehyun, who you tried to reach with your hand and pull him away from involving himself in any more trouble.
“Baby, don’t do it, please.” You cried out, weaving your arms around Jaehyun’s shoulders.
“Listen to your whore boy, you’ll really regret not doing so.”
“What? A bunch of drunk old asses think they can beat me up?” Jaehyun snorted, provoking the man and the next moment he pushed you away once again, because they began to push and pull each other, throwing words, and the worst of it all - punches. All the noise summoned aunty from the kitchen and you ran to her screaming over the shouting that was happening behind your back.
“Call the police! Now!”
“So, once again, you’re saying the man in blue dress shirt harassed you, your boyfriend interceded on your behalf, then they began to throw punches at him?” The policeman asked you for the second time.
“Yes, that’s exactly what happened.” You’ve said the same thing word for word, you couldn’t understand why he needed for you to repeat that.
“Can you describe what sort of harassment it was?” The man came up with a new question.
“He touched my butt, pinched me.” Words barely came out of your mouth.
“That’s not exactly what other witnesses are saying.” The man scratched his brow, biting on the pen he wrote with.
“What do you mean?”
“What I’ve gathered from other witnesses is you came up to their table to let them know the place was closing, your customers agreed to leave in 15 minutes, helping you with the beer bottle you dropped. Your boyfriend didn’t like them not leaving immediately, coming at them and throwing the first punch at the man. Did he or did he not punch him first?” He read off the paper until the moment he threw the question at you.
“He defended me!” You cried out.
“Okay, you admit that Mr. Jeong threw his fists first, thank you.” The man took notes on that same piece of paper.
“What do you mean, thank you?” You tried to read upside down what he was writing there.
“You’re good to go.”
“What about Jaehyun?” You couldn’t go without him.
“He’s staying here for a little while.” You felt your heart sink to the pit of your stomach.
“What? Why?” You cried out scandalised. “He didn’t do anything!”
“Given by the clean face, save for a little bruise around his eye, and ruined faces of four men, I highly doubt he’d done nothing.” You couldn’t remember Jaehyun going feral on them, it felt like they punched each other to accuse Jaehyun for more than what he did. There was four of them and they all ganged up on him, how is that even possible physically.
“But it was self defence! I’m telling the truth! They harassed me, he protected me. Then they ganged up on him! He didn’t punch them because of whatever they’re saying! They’re trying to frame him, made it look like he has anger issues! Don’t you see?”
“There’s no surveillance cameras at the restaurant, no way to prove your words. You could be saving your boyfriend.” The man shrugged, absolutely uninterested in your tears.
“And they could be saving their friend? Their story doesn’t even make sense!” It really didn’t make any sense, Jaehyun not liking the fact the didn’t want to leave immediately? That’s clearly made up.
“And they’re probably are, but you messed with a bunch of lawyers, so even if it’s not the truth, it will be one in court. I’m sure they’ll take care of that.” The man closed the notebook he wrote previously in.
“Court?! What do you mean court? Can I see him? I need to see him. Did you call his parents?” You blinked tears, ears on fire from realisation of what was to come.
“His parents are on the way. I’ll give you five minutes, if you promise to get the hell out of here afterwards.”
“I-, okay. I will.” You wiped your eyes.
“Good. What school are you two attending?”
“Why?” You blinked dumbfounded.
“So many questions, I can see how you got your boyfriend in this situation. We’re going to report him to the school for violence.”
“No, please don’t. It’ll ruin his scholarship and-.” You felt the tears stream down your face at another realisation.
“That’s the process. Hong, get the girl to that kid detained for physical violence.” The other cop nodded and you stood up, trailing behind to see Jaehyun.
Your head spun as soon as you did see him, in a cage, like som sort of real felon.
“Five minutes.” The man looked you dead in the eyes and was ready to leave.
“Can you let him out for these five minutes?” Foolish of you to ask, but still.
“You’re funny. Could let you come in, not sure I’ll be in the mood to let you out once the time is up, so be wise choosing.” You contemplated for real, thought if staying behind the bars with him would be better. Maybe it was, you’d let them know he didn’t do things they accuse him of.
“We’re good.” Jaehyun voiced out what you couldn’t and the cop nodded, walking away. “Babe, no. Come here.” Jaehyun gasped as soon as he saw your tear-stained eyes and reached a hand out to pull you closer, against the cold metal. “Don’t cry, don’t. It’s not your fault. It’s okay.”
“They lied about what happened, they said you lashed out on them because they didn’t leave when you wanted them to. Police has to report this whole thing to school.” You bawled your eyes out.
“Tsss. Don’t tell me anything about it.” Jaehyun patted your hair, his face being too stoic for someone that’s put behind the bars unfairly. “I’ll be okay, just tell my parents what really happened, they’ll get me out of here.”
“I’m so sorry.” You felt Jaehyun’s fingers wipe your face.
“Babe, it’s not your fault.” He cooed, calm. The only one to be bawling should be him, really. Not the other way around. You hated that you were unhelpful.
“It is.” You cried.
“Go home, sleep tight, angel. I’ll come out soon and will make sure we catch up with our dates.” He caressed your cheek, smiling.
“Jaehyun.” You cried more, his arms wrapping your waist as far as they could go between the bars. Your arms wrapped his neck as far as they could go also.
“Come on, babe, kiss me. I need something to keep me warm tonight.” You licked into his mouth, eyes blinded with tears, trying to not choke while kissing your boyfriend. “Please quit crying, it makes me feel like you’ve got your heart involved.” He whispered, mouth pressing into your cheek.
“It’s not, I swear.” You lied, feeling your heart clench at his little smile.
“Good. I still don’t love you, you should go.” His fingers squeezed your waist for the last time.
“I don’t love you either.” Jaehyun nodded and let you kiss him two more times, before Mr. Hong returned and walked you out of the police station.
“Repeat that again.” Jaehyun’s mom didn’t spare you a look, staring at the glass of water that stood in front of her.
“Your son stood up for me. That guy, who’s nose Jaehyun broke, he harassed me. Jaehyun-.” You felt like you were being punished, standing next to the woman and her husband, head low with shame.
“What? Harassed you? Did he kiss you or touched you inappropriately?” You took the shock and anger in her voice as pain on your behalf for the man’s action.
“No, he called me names and pinched me.” Your fingers pinched your nose to not cry again.
“That’s it? And you made a scene about it?” And you took it as such wrongly. It’s like air was beaten out of your lungs at the cruel realisation.
“I didn’t, Jaehyun saw it before his eyes and before I could do a single thing, I was thrown away and he punched that man.”
“So it’s because of you. Oh god.” Her eyes finally met yours. “Did you know Jaehyun’s been set for a scholarship? Did you know he was one of the top students in his year? Do you know he was the team’s captain assistant? And it’s blown out the window because of you!” Her voice ricocheted through your brain in painful pangs. You obviously knew all these things, and you knew whatever happened to his average grade was nothing in comparison to what was about to happen.
“Mrs. Jeong, I’m so sorry-.” You could only whisper.
“Honey, it’s not the time to point fingers. What matters more is to get Jaehyun out of there as soon as possible.” Jaehyun’s dad almost made you feel like he sided with you, but you knew better than believe either of them.
“We couldn’t know they would lie to the police and everyone would believe them.” You talked again.
“Enough! I don’t want to hear your voice any more. I’m just glad that in two months I won’t ever have to see you again. Maybe, if I’m lucky enough, Jaehyun will break things with you once his out of j-,” Mrs. Jeong chocked on the word. “Once he’s back home.”
“Lawyers say the only way to get out of this thing is to make amends with the accusing party.” Jaehyun’s dad said casually. “Because they have connections, and Jaehyun will definitely be charged with something otherwise.”
“That means you’ll put all of your sorry into that apology so they would drop their charges.” His mom hissed, fingers pressing into the table.
“Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Jeong, I’ll do anything, I’ll tell Jaehyun-.” You were ready to drop on your knees for her to forgive you.
“No, girlie, you took this the wrong way. You’re going there alone, you won’t drag my son into this. He’s having it so much worse that you are!” The look she gave you probably could’ve killed a small pet.
“What if they assault me?” You trembled at the idea.
“Then that’ll be it-.” And lost strength in your legs at her implicated answer.
“Honey! I’ll go with her, don’t play the villain here.” Jaehyun’s dad stopped his wife.
“She ruined our sons life! And I’m the villain?”
“Mrs. Jeong, I am so deeply sorry.” You felt the tears stream down your face again.
“Show that, then. We have to pay bail money to get him out. Pay it.”
“How much is it? I don’t have much, but I’ll give you everything.” You nodded with vigour. You’d do anything to get him out of there save.
“It’s two million.”
“I don’t have this much, I-.”
“Then earn it, get a job? Would that be too much to ask for a boy you love?” You almost let we don’t love each other slip out of your mouth. You knew she’d destroy you, if she ever heard those words.
“It’s not, I’ll get the job, I’ll pay, but there’s no way I’ll get the money overnight.” And you needed him out immediately, not when you’ll be able to gather the money. Jaehyun can’t be left in jail for months, you trembled.
“We’ll get him out, you’ll pay us back. Now get out.”
“Okay, Mrs. Jeong. Thank you, Mrs. Jeong. When are you going to do that?”
“Get. Out.” You nodded and ran to the exit of the restaurant immediately after. “Wait!” You paused. “God forbid you telling any of this to Jaehyun. You get me?”
“Yes, of course. I understand.” You bowed and left.
“Babe, why are you ghosting me?” Jaehyun studied your eyes for a good second.
“I was at the library, I told you.” You gave him an apologetic smile and closed the door of your locker, trying to get away from him longing stare. Jaehyun’s arms wrapped your waist pressing your back into his torso. At least you couldn’t see his stare.
“Not so fast.” He whispered into your ear. “Your evenings are supposed to be mine. All 40 left of those.” Jaehyun’s mouth peppered kisses on your neck, your arm automatically hooking over his neck to push him away.
“There are people, Jaehyun.” You whispered.
“Everybody guessed we are dating after I kissed you at the game. I can kiss you all I want now.” He turned your around in his hold, latching his mouth onto yours. “You skipped our game yesterday.”
“I’m sorry.” You kissed Jaehyun apologetically. “You won, right?” You knew they did, he called you after, you had to run all the way to the staff bathroom to pick up his call and make him believe you were at the library, not serving tables at a bakery four blocks down.
“You know I did.”
“See, Am not the lucky charm you wanted me to believe I was.”
“You’re better.” His mouth pressed into yours for a long, longing kiss. “Tonight you’re mine, promise me.”
“Jae, I can’t. I’m so sorry.” Your palms pressed into his shoulders.
“Why? Did something change? Is that because of jail? Or because I fought? You’ve been distant ever since.”
“It’s neither, I swear to you.” You kissed him, pulling back and then kissing him once more. “I don’t love you just as much as I did last month. It’s the entrance exams and the fact I suck at social studies, I need to be fully prepared.” You came up with a lie on the spot.
“You have to rest too, that’s what you tell me and you don’t follow the simple rule.”
“That’s why Thursday evening I’m yours.” You made a promise that would directly affect your debt to his parents, but you couldn’t lie to him any longer. You missed him, missed having him all to yourself in the evening, missed him walking you home and kissing your mouth until you were losing balance. You needed him as much as he needed you. You’d work out the money issue anyway. You had more time before you had to leave for SNU. Jaehyun was going early. With no him in your presence it’d be so much easier to work and pay his family back.
“Babe!” Jaehyun called out for you right in the middle of school, ten’s of heads turning around to see him. He ran through the corridor and lifted you off the floor. “They dropped the charges!”
“What?” You practiced the surprise on your face through the whole morning, given the genuine happiness on Jaehyun’s face - he wasn’t told the reason those charges were dropped.
“I guess those fuckers admitted to lying and dropped all the charges. I’m free, my scholarship is back in my hands and my mom is not giving me the punishing look anymore.”
“Congratulations.” You blinked.
“Thank you, babe. I told you you shouldn’t worry, the truth will always win.” Jaehyun kissed your cheek, squeezing you in his hold relieved. You hugged him back, thinking of the humiliation you went through last week, how they asked for you to get on your knees and bow in deepest apology for the slander you did. Jaehyun’s dad was the only anchor you could hold on to in the process, the only reason these men were controlled into not going too far.
It was all worth it, Jaehyun was happy and free, it didn’t matter, really. As long as his life wasn’t ruined because of you.
“Babe, be honest. You want to break up with me?” Jaehyun’s brows furrowed.
“What?” You laughed at Jaehyun’s assumption like you wouldn’t have thought the same thing if you were him.
“How many times we’ve been together in the past month?” He pressed, leaning into you more.
“My entrance exams-.”
“That’s bullshit, SNU exam period ended last week! My friend applied there and told me that! I checked on their website.” Shit.
“I’ve been busy, Jae, I’m not avoiding you on purpose.” You shook your head, trying to buy time and think of anything you could tell him.
“I think you do. I think you want to break up with me and don’t know how to do that.” The tone of his voice told you he was mad. Again, who wouldn’t.
“You are so wrong!” You burst, you weren’t trying to break up. You were, in fact, trying to keep him closer to you.
“Am I?”
“Of course you are, I don’t want to break up with you! If we had more time left together, I’d spend it all with you!” You fought him back.
“Why are you not spending what we have, then?”
“Jaehyun, it’s really complicated. Just give me three more weeks.”
“I’m going away in three weeks!” You heart shattered. Your mouth opened and closed, when you tried to say anything your voice wasn’t there.
“I-, fuck, Jaehyun. It’s fucked up.” Your fingers curled in fists, pressing nails into the skin of your palm.
“What is fucked up, babe? You should tell me. I tell you everything.” Your brain paced.
“I wanted to get you a goodbye gift, and got myself a job. That’s why I couldn’t be with you all the time-.” You lied the worst lie, made him feel guilty about pressing you to reveal your surprise. Except for there wasn’t any.
“Oh my god, babe. You should’ve said something.” Jaehyun grabbed your shoulders, giving a few long blinks for you to come up with any words.
“I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“I thought you didn’t want me anymore. I thought all sorts of things, like I scared you away with fighting, or worse. God.” Jaehyun kissed you.
“I’m still into you, you don’t have to worry.”
“My god. I’m so fucking into you.” Jaehyun pressed his fingers into your shoulder blades harder. “As far as I can be without involving my heart.” You nodded in agreement and let his lips cover yours.
For your next payment Jaehyun’s mom told you to come over to the restaurant, instead of coming over to your place in the morning herself, like she did every Monday before. Jaehyun was supposed to be hanging out with his teammates and gave you the perfect chance to discreetly give over the money.
You walked in, and Jaehyun’s mom immediately noticed your entrance, guiding you with her eyes toward the counter. You haven’t been much to the restaurant ever since the incident, walking past that table still gave you a little tremble inside.
“Good evening, Mrs. Jeong.” You greeted the woman that barely gave you attention, reaching out the hand towards you quietly. You fished out the envelope from your pocket laying it on her palm. She opened it and ran her fingers through money, counting the bills thoroughly, like you would lie to her. You watched her go through every bill, letting the envelope slip through her fingers somewhere in the process and sitting down to pick it up, when you felt a human body press into your back.
Two hands wrapped your waist, mouth pressing into your cheek. The silent hi, babe gave you the last hint on who this was.
Blood outflew from your body, you knew for sure his mom was about to go through the same the moment she straightened her back. You couldn’t move a limb, and you should’ve moved all of them to shut his mom up. You were only hoping he didn’t see you hand over the envelope, didn’t see the look she gave you, counted the money. God. You needed to turn around and see his face to know what he saw, but your body wasn’t moving.
“Were you slacking off this week?” His mom began to retort behind the counter. “Your wage last week was 150k. With such small money, it will take-.” She finally straightened her back and locked gazes with her son. You could see emotion flow through her face, the way her mouth opened with a little tremble, closed back, the way her eyes trailed over Jaehyun’s arms wrapped over your waist and then fell on you, giving you a death stare before turning back at her son with a smile. “Sweetheart! I thought you're out with your friends!”
"We came here to eat. What small money? What's that about?” His arm wrapped your waist tighter, looking between you and his mom. You felt that if his arm will press into your stomach a little more you’ll puke. Lying wasn’t your favourite thing to do, lying to Jaehyun felt straight up like the worst shit that could ever be done. And you’ve been doing that all the time ever since the fight.
"Sweetheart, it was nothing-.” Mrs. Jeong waved him off and looked at you for support that you hoped you were giving. Except for if you saw yourself in the mirror you’d know you had horror written all over your face.
“Babe?” Jaehyun bent his neck to see you better.
“It's nothing, that's right.” You finally managed to nod.
“I saw the envelope, what money my girlfriend could possibly owe you?”
“The one that helped to bail you out of jail…” you whispered under your breath, not a smart move. You knew that, you should’ve not said a thing. Jaehyun’s arm crushed your ribs. It was supposed to be a thought, not a confession.
“What? Are you asking y/n to pay you the bail money back?” Jaehyun’s chest pushed forward and crashed you into the counter more, closer to his mom.
“Sweetheart, your girlfriend was the reason this happened, she offered to pay us back.” She still kept the tone of her voice sweet for her son.
“You did?" Jaehyun stared and you stuttered. He could know for sure you didn't.
“Mom, you didn't. It's-, I-.” He swallowed. “Mom, what the fuck?” Jaehyun’s voice went a pitch higher.
“Jeong Jaehyun, your language!” She raised her finger at him.
“No! Mom, fuck that! I’m not a child! You can’t be doing that to my girlfriend. Why would you do that?” He ended his sentence with a loud, tired sigh.
“Son, what’s going on?” Jaehyun’s dad emerged from the kitchen. You wanted to evaporate from the room, or at least not stand right in the heat of the fight unfolding, but Jaehyun’s fingers were now bruising the skin of your upper arm and holding you right before him like a shield, or the prove of their wrongdoing.
“Were you aware that y/n pays you money back for bailing me out of jail?” He hissed.
“It’s a good thing she willed to help.” His dad nodded, the practiced version leaving his tongue perfectly.
“Dad, no, don’t even! I know you forced her! Mom forced my girlfriend to pay her the money back. Forced her to work and lie to me!” He let an exhausted sigh above your ear. “Why would you even do that, when you know how limited our time together is! This is like-.” Jaehyun paused and then spoke above you with new force. “You purposefully sabotaged this! Purposefully made her work until the day I had to leave! Why?”
Mr. Jeong scratched his brow in response. “Are you still doing that job of yours?” He questioned you, motioning his pointing finger in circles. You nodded. “Honey, didn’t we discuss that we’ll return all the money since the charges were dropped and the bail money was returned to us?” Jaehyun’s dad tried to speak quietly, but both you and Jaehyun heard that sentence perfectly. Now it was your time to gasp. Jaehyun was right, what the fuck? This was a purposeful sabotage. You didn’t even need to work anymore and had no clue.
“What? What!” Mrs. Jeong blew air out of her lungs. “She is the reason behind this incident, it threatened the future of our child! The least she could do is pay some money back.” Her head turned from her husband to her son. "You’ll leave for Japan in a few weeks any way and won’t remember about her by the end of the year. It hurts to think about it now, but it’s life. If you’re grown up, drop the delusion, Jaehyun. I stored all the money she gave me here. I was gonna return them once you leave for Japan.” Jaehyun’s fingers gripped onto you even tighter to not burst out of rage. You covered his fingers with yours, the boy finally paying attention to what he did and letting go. You felt his fingers smooth your skin afterwards.
“Honey, it’s still not our business-.” Jaehyun cut his father off, which made his mom fumble in shock.
“Fucking yes! None of your business! And it’s unforgivable, you forced her to keep away from me, lie to me and I won’t be too shocked if this all was under a threat!”
“Jaehyun, don’t exaggerate over a girl! She’ll get her money back!”
“But I’m not getting all those lost days back!” Jaehyun reached a hand forward. “Give me her money back!” Jaehyun’s mom immediately reached 5 envelopes you’ve handed her over before and dropped them on her son’s palm. Jaehyun hid them in the front pocket of his hoodie.
“Jaehyun, be the grown up you’re trying to make me believe you are! Get yourself together! Think!” Think of what exactly? You couldn’t understand her words. She should be thanking gods he doesn’t know you were the reason the charges were dropped. You knew it’d destroy him, and their relationship forever.
“We’re going.” Jaehyun took your palm in his burning from rage hand and forced you out of the door. As you were running out the door you met eyes with one of the team’s guys, utter shock on his face probably mirrored everyone’s that was in the restaurant at the moment. His mom screaming behind was still in your ears as you walked the street in a fast-paced steps.
“Where are we going?” You pulled onto his hand, still being dragged behind Jaehyun.
“Don't fucking know. Why didn't you tell me?” He turned around and took your face in his hold.
“They are kind of right, I should've shared the money. I just didn’t know this was done with the intention of separating us.” You covered his fingers with yours.
“Babe, no. That's bullshit. It's not because of you nor is it your responsibility to get me out of. Is that why you ditched me all the time? There was no job for a goodbye gift, there was a job to pay the money back to my mom?” Jaehyun ran his eyes over your face, smoothing thumbs over your cheeks to calm both of you down.
“I, well, I-, I didn’t want to lie, but your mom made it clear you shouldn’t know. And I honestly agree. Look what it done to you!”
“Baby.” Jaehyun cooed, pressing you into his chest. "I'm so fucking sorry.”
“It's okay. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you, made you think I wanted a break up.” You grabbed onto his arms to steady yourself. “I’m so relieved you know now, I couldn’t lie to you any longer.” You landed your lips on his hoodie, ironically over where his heart was beating in his chest.
“Babe.” You pressed your forehead into Jaehyun’s chest, hiding away from his gaze. The exhaustion from this whole lying and scheming thing made you teary-eyed. Jaehyun’s fingers found your chin, forcing it up so you’d face him. Your eyes closed as he raised your head, you couldn’t and didn’t want to see him. You’d break down.
Jaehyun’s mouth rested on your cheek, then he moved back and froze for a little while, waiting for you to look back at him. You opened your eyes, to see his glowing stare burn through you. “I love you.” He whispered as soon as his brain registered you were finally looking back at him.
“Jae, don’t do this. You’re going away, we promised not to do this to each other.” You tried to move your body away from him. Physical contact gave you immediate pain. Knowing he loved you and knowing he had to leave so soon made you physically weak. Like all strength got sucked out of your body in an instance with his touch.
“I love you. Loved you probably since the second week of our little dates.” You felt tears prickle your eyes. You were feeling your heart tear up. It was so unfair, that he did that you literal days before walking out of your life. You blinked, feeling your heart crush in your chest.
“Why would you do that to me? When you’re about to leave me, you’re so unfair.” You whispered, not able to use your voice properly.
“Babe.” Jaehyun called out once more, letting go of you and looking for his phone in all of his pockets, finally finding it and unlocking, after a few swipes of his fingers the boy shoved it into your face. The brightness of the screen almost blinded you, eyes tired and hurt from tears. You glanced at the letter he opened for you and felt yourself cry even harder. Congratulations, great pleasure, Bachelor of Business Administration program, starting in the Spring semester, develop future leaders with a global perspective, review the enclosed materials, your enrollment. It was all such a blur by the time you got to the end of it, you couldn’t even blink, pushing his hand away.
“Why are you showing this to me? I know you’re leaving.” You pushed him away, getting in a fight where he’d won without much effort, trying to make you see his face again.
Jaehyun called out your name, probably for the first time since fifth grade. He probably called you once or twice by the name when you only started talking again, but still. It was such a striking difference to the babe that always left his mouth that your eyes blinked away all the tears and finally focused on his face. Only now did you notice a smile adorn his lips. “Look at the logo.” He turned the phone back at you, zoomed in on the logo.
The latin phrase, the blue colours, wreath, pen, torch… it all looked identical to the letter you had sitting in your mailbox Favourites. “What did you do?” You stumbled back a little, piecing it all together in an instance. “Your parents will kill you!”
“Babe, I want to go to Seoul with you.” Jaehyun put the phone away and reached out to hold your palms in his. “Aren’t you happy I want to be with you?”
“I-, your mom. She will never accept me, not after this.” You tried to get out of Jaehyun’s hold and couldn’t.
“Stop caring about that, tell me that you care about me? Please say you do.” Jaehyun squeezed your fingers.
“I do.” You whispered, stopping yourself from trying to get away from his touch.
“Yeah?” You nodded in response and let Jaehyun hug your shoulders.
“We’re going to SNU together.” You raised your head from his chest, searching his eyes for any prove that he knew what he was doing. “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“I only got the letter on Monday, barely had a good chance to talk to you since then, and now… I just felt like if I’m not telling you now, you’ll want to get away.”
“I applied to Osaka University.” You admitted the stupid thing you did for him. You were thinking he’d like to hear and see that, if he felt the same way you did. Though you barely got in and couldn’t afford the fee, it was still worth to tell him. So he’d know you’ve thought about doing things for him too.
“You what?” You couldn’t tell by the shock on his face what he even thought, though.
“I was contemplating whether or not you’d want me there with you. If I’d want to go there instead of my dream school.”
“And you got in?”
“Only on the paid basis, I think the fact I don’t know Japanese also took a toll on that. I anyway don’t have the money to pay, so I would’ve not been able to come with you.”
“Good, then we’re going to Seoul. Together.” You nodded, happiness finally sinking in your body. Your arms wrapped Jaehyun’s shoulders and you patted his back.
“Jae?” You pulled back, searching for his eyes. “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing. I would do anything for you.” He leaned into your forehead.
"Really?"
"Yes. I just didn’t want to miss you for four years. That’s when I knew I love you.” he pressed his lips into your mouth. "I love you."
"Maybe you want to go back to my place? Since we know we don’t have to separate anymore I can allow for you to see my room.” You raised a shoulder, flirting.
"Your parents?” he cut to the chase, making it impossible to hold in a smile.
"Out."
"Really?" His brow raised at you.
"Yes, it's Friday and they sometimes go out camping for the weekend."
"Oh, wow. Let's go then.” You pulled onto his arm, this time making him trail behind you. “Can’t believe you’re letting me in your room.”
“A boyfriend with serious intentions is totally different to one that was supposed to get away, isn’t it?”
"Have you ever done this before?” Jaehyun broke off the kiss to ask you the important question. You’ve kissed, hugged and caressed each other’s skin so many times. Nothing beyond a touch, a soft tingle of skin against skin, but now, as Jaehyun’s fingers trailed the wet patch over your underwear, you could sense he was nervous. Your chest felt caged at the feeling of his digit teasing, you haven’t even registered the question at first.
"Yes. Have you?" Jaehyun malfunctioned a little, like he expected you to say no. His fingers left your heat, leaning in to you. Your legs wrapped his hips tighter, ready to feel his body weight on yours.
"Not fully.” He admitted, a little sheepish. He had no reason to be sheepish, you loved him either way.
"You mean like-?” You trailed off.
"Like foreplay, I guess. No penetration.” You nodded and reached to your bedside table, where you hid a few condoms ever since that first urge you had to sleep with him. Even if you weren’t about to be serious. If he’d asked you, you would’ve said yes.
“Do you want to do this with me? If you’re waiting for special so-.” This didn’t feel like the right time to ask him, but you’ve dragged him all the way to our bed and haven’t given him a chance to speak once. Kissing his mouth, neck, chest, stomach and even his thighs. If he had any doubt you were horny when you suggested to get to your house, he clearly lost that thought as soon as you straddled his thighs. But it was clear about you, his opinion wasn’t taken in consideration.
“Babe.” Jaehyun let out a sigh, eyes rolling to the back of your hand. “I’m a virgin because I had no girl to do this with, not because I wasn’t ready or anything. You are, anyway, special to me. I was waiting for someone I love, and it’s you.” He stretched his mouth in a smile and kissed your lips, taking his kisses to your neck, sucking in a bit of skin to lick on it afterwards. “I’ve always wanted to do this.” He kissed your skin once more and pulled back.
You shoved the foil packet into Jaehyun’s palm ad watched him rip it. “Do you need help with the condom, or do you want my advice?” If you were him, you’d be thankful for any advice on your first time, but he also was a man and that could possibly be awkward for him. You haven’t slept with many men, you weren’t sure how their brains worked.
“Sure." Jaehyun gave you a nod and kissed your mouth. “For both questions.” It made you relieved, the fact his ego wasn’t hurt by your advancement in that department. You nodded and sat up, resting your palms against his hips. Jaehyun raised his body so you’d be able to take off his underwear.
“I don’t have that much experience, I guess just don’t overwhelm yourself.” you looked up at him from under your eyes, fingers wrapping around the waistband of his boxers.
"Babe, I'm not that much of a noob.” Jaehyun chuckled, but then stopped as soon as he felt your fingers pull the material down. “Do you mind?” He asked, pulling you up by your elbow. You let him raise you to your knees, making your face closer to his face than cock.
"That's not what I meant. I heard that it can be pretty overwhelming when you slip inside for the first time. Don't want you to bust quickly, only if that’s not what you want to do. Then I’m cool with that also.”
“Okay.” Jaehyun nodded, and your fingers rolled down the fabric, setting him free. You could tell Jaehyun didn’t want you to ogle over his cock by the way he stared into your eyes. You’d do that for him, only hoping that in return he won’t stare too much at you either. You had the experience, but it didn’t take the nervousness away. You wanted him to like you completely, wanted him to be satisfied with your body too, but the nerves were still there and telling you you still can be not enough.
You kissed him to let him know it’s all okay, to let yourself know it was all good. You let your fingers wrap around the base of him and caught the little gasp he let out with your mouth. You stroked him a few times, Jaehyun’s arm wrapping your waist to keep his balance, then you took the condom from his other hand and spared a little glance of him to press the condom against his tip and roll it onto him. He watched you do it, gaze returning back at you just in time to catch the fact you’ve been looking at his cock too, eyes showing just enough nervous tremble to make your heart squeeze.
“I don’t know if I’m crazy to say it. I haven’t seen many cocks in my life, but yours looks like the prettiest one in the world. Delectable also, I’m really dying to feel you inside.” You bit onto your lip, eyes flattering before you could see his reaction. Jaehyun’s palm landed on your side of your head, inching your head so he’d kiss your lips. “I meant it.” You whispered in between kisses.
Jaehyun’s fingers pushed you back to lie down, arms caressing your stomach and chest, lowering all the way to your panties, taking them off your body and throwing to the side. Jaehyn let his fingers wander over your thighs and stomach, until he build up courage to lower it down to your heat and slip his fingers between your warm, glowing with slickness velvety folds. Your arm wrapped over Jaehyun’s neck, pushing him closer, the other one grabbing onto his wrist on automaton. You didn’t want him to stop, but the feeling was so sensual you needed him to be careful. “Is it not okay?” He tried to move his neck back and ask you.
“No, it just feels too good, I fear I’ll burst.” Jaehyun smiled, pecking your mouth. You felt his fingers work you up more over the clit, allowing two of his fingers to slip inside, make sure there was enough slickness for him to not hurt you.
“Should I?” He asked.
“Jae?” You called out, as his eyes fell back to where you were about to connect. “I love you.” He filled you up in one smooth trust, a hitched breath slipping out of his throat at the feeling of something new.
You could tell Jaehyun felt completely overwhelmed, like he was drowning in the warmth and tightness of you surrounding him. His breath uneven, eyes fluttering with a mixture of shock. His whole body felt tense with pleasure, his eyes wide with what seemed to be disbelief. He was just so caught up in the sensation, overwhelmed but clearly loving every second of it. You couldn't stop thinking how good the stretch he was giving you felt.
You had no expectations, you just wanted to be with him completely, let him take over not only your soul, but body also, you would've been satisfied if he lasted three secone.
You got to feel his body weight on top of you, got to hear the sounds he made as he reached his high. You got all that, got his fingers working you up to climax, got his head laying on your bare chest afterwards, heavy hot breaths fanning over your skin. Got his mouth trailing kisses all over your sternum, and I love you’s rolling off his tongue in-between each one of them and got him falling asleep next to you, face tucked into your shoulder blade.
You couldn’t keep the bubbling excitement at bay. Falling asleep in Jaehyun’s arms, you hoped you'll stay with him forever.

“We have to promise not to love each other. Promise that we won’t involve our hearts into this.” Jaehyun moved your body up his thigh a little more.
"Won't even remember my name after a month in Japan."

pairing: NCT Jaehyun x reader
others: Jaemin, Renjun, Taeyeon
genre: office!au, fluff, suggestive themes, some light angst, co-workers to lovers, romance, happy ending
warnings: language, alcohol, semi-public make out, pining
words: 8,5k
can be read as a stand alone fic
part 1 of 3
part 2 | part 3
synopsis: Jaehyun's been your prime interest since the day he walked into your office three months ago. You finally get to meet him properly at a corporate party, as the evening unfolds, you discover that you share far more common ground than you'd thought. And as he walks you home afterwards, you find out you might be not the only one interested in that way.
----------
"Oh. I can't even look that way right now." Nari rolled her eyes, tapping your shoulder with a finger as she raised the glass to sip on her drink.
"Why?" You moved your eyes over the room flustered. It didn't strike you you were staring much - you thought you were pretty smooth. No longer than a second to look at him as you turned around to reach for a canapé. No longer than a moment of your eyes on him as you looked for an unfinished bottle of champagne. You must've not been as smooth as it seemed in your head - you focused on the gin&tonic you had in your hand and left it for your own good at the nearest table. You still had to get back home with your own two feet, it's safer to sober up.
Your friend rolled her eyes once again and sparked the worst of your personality traces - curiosity. "What? Why? Why, why?" You took a step closer to hear the gossip, drunk smile spreading on your face and you attempted to hide it behind your palm to not look so wasted. "What's the tea? I literally looked there because it feels like Miji may be the tenth person to approach him with a hug." You weren't totally lying. You did look because every woman at the office, married or not, mind you, approached the man of your interest with the widest smile and the warmest hug. You tried to think logically and assume he was friendly down to his last bone and made everyone at the company love him in just 3 months he's been here. Then, you spiraled down to thinking it was far more than that. What if he slept with every second woman in your agency and every other was lining up to get with him? Then you climbed back up to adequacy, as your own boss approached him with that big grin and warm hug right in front of her husband's nose.
He must be just out of this world friendly.
"I don't have any tea on him. He's just not my favorite person right now." Nari's eyes glued to her drink.
"Oh?" you turned your head around. This was what you considered tea, so why would Nari say she didn't have any? She was his direct report, after all. "What happened?" You leaned in a little, ready to be scandalised, terribly disappointed, turned off and disgusted. Anything, because being the opposite and out of his circle of interest was actually agonising you at this point.
"He's just a pain in the ass. All polite, with that stupid welcoming grin and an answer to every question asked." Nari spat annoyed.
"Oh." you said again, but the tone of that sound changed completely. "Isn't that good for the accounting manager that he is? I guess now we know how he got there." You tried to support and also possibly nudge for more info.
"I just feel like that's fake and he's a leech. He is a man in a managing position." she pointed out with a rise of a brow. "If it's not pretty privilege, then it's most definitely that."
"I heard he's pretty smart." you randomly stated, the look Nari gave you made you regret every word that left your mouth afterward. "Taeyeon worked with him in her previous agency, she said he's been a brilliant mind since he was an intern." You glanced behind Nari, the man of the hour still stood on the same spot, still talking to Taeyeon and Baek.
"Yeah, if he's such a brilliant mind why won't he make that report himself and not ask me to stay overtime?" Nari spat and everything finally clicked in for you. You laughed lightheartedly, tilting your head back a little and pushed Nari by her shoulder.
"I knew there must be something behind that venom outburst! I clearly remember you saying that your new Jaehyun boss is much better than your old one." you tried to not say the name too loud, but your voice made a weird wave as his name left your mouth and in pure fear your eyes glued to Jaehyun and you were very much glad the gin&tonic was safe and sound somewhere else. Jaehyun stared right back at you. As you lost all traces of time while locked gazes, it was hard to look at the situation soberly - did he look because you were directly in his line of vision? Did he look because he heard you call his name or he looked at you too in general?
You shriveled as soon as his eyes left you.
"Fuck, I think he heard that. That's pretty awkward." you almost automatically tried to lift your arm up to take a sip and calm down, disappointing your own self with the lack of a glass in your arm.
"Dude! He's my boss, ah shit." Nari panicked and looked away from you, trying to make herself busy with something else.
"Ladies." You watched Nari jump in her place at the greeting. With blasting music, it was hard to distinguish voices, and you giggled as Renjun's face painted with confusion. "Why?" he addressed you, as Nari slowly turned around to see who it was.
"She thinks you're her boss-" your tongue pressed against your teeth.
"I'm in different division tho-." Renjun raised his palm up, confused.
"No, she thinks he came here to tell her off because he heard us gossip about him."
"There's gossip?!" Renjun's already half lifted palm grabbed onto his chest in a dramatic gesture. It clearly said yall had gossip and didn't look for me?!
"There's none. She's just being dramatic because everyone loves him."
Renjun gave an accwpting nod. "Okay. That's real. My boss seems to be in love with him, too."
"Well, seems like we're yet to get in line?" you snorted. You would like to skip it and see for yourself first.
"You want to?" Renjun questioned.
"Ah-." you looked over your shoulder flabbergasted."I haven't had the chance to work with him yet. But everyone makes it seem like he's a very lovely person." Yes, that also on top of his breathtaking looks and sexy ass brain that made him a very valuable man at such a young age.
"I'm on short leg with Jaem, I can make him introduce y'all." Renjun sipped his beverage through a straw.
"I work under him, I know him!" Nari exclaimed and clapped her hands in front of Renjun's face. Like the solemn idea of being introduced to the man disgusted her.
"Okay! Don't clap it in front of my face." Renjun clapped his hands in front of Nari's face to piss her off in return.
"Okay, I won't." she did it once again and they both burst into laughter. You almost stopped them and asked about you. What about me? I don't work for him, I want to know him.
"Oh my god. Do you hear that?" Renjun stopped, stretching out his arms for everyone to stop and perked up his ears. "You don't?"
"The song?" you questioned.
"That's a song from like 10 years ago?" Nari perked up her ears too, probably looking through the music library in her head.
"8 years. That's my prom song! Oh my god! We have to go dance!" Renjun grabbed both your arms and pulled you behind him, one short corridor through and you've entered the kitchen area that transformed to the dance floor for the night.
-
Wait, so you're probably wondering what sort of office this is? With a dance floor and alcoholic beverages? It's better to give out some explanation before it gets too late.
Your CEO had her 50th birthday this week, since the agency also happened to close off a big deal with a lot of money involved a week before that, everyone was gifted with a surprise party to celebrate and wind down after the hot season. A little food, a lot of alcohol and a DJ on the 40th floor of your office on Friday night - great suggestion for everyone involved. People always show up for free booze, food, and party. Especially when the main demography of your company switched to young adults who worked as interns.
You had to be there too, everyone from senior and above were obliged to and as head of your group of clients you had to dilute younger audience and also, maybe, hopefully, scare them to not turn this into a trash party. This still was your office. And it'd be amazing if it stayed the same way by the end of the night.
Jumping ahead, none of you really scared the interns. They still were pretty wasted by the end of the night, women's bathroom became a fallen victim to someone's weak stomach. Don't think anyone really wants to go in detail with that.
You didn't actually mind being here. Despite having a higher position in the hierarchy, you were no fool to refuse a free party with your friends. Especially not when your main attraction was all in for the evening in the group chats.
You've heard people talk that there was also some action on the 35th floor, but who were you to go there and deprive yourself from hearing and seeing him from a distance. Even for 10 minutes.
So now, naturally, jumping with your friends in a pit of almost teenagers to a song they were too young to know, you processed in your head a plan of retreat. You might be a little sweaty and very drunk, but you're still very much dedicated to him. And it's been maybe 20 minutes since you left the open space area to dance.
"I need to pee." You excuse yourself and take a few steps away from the banging of the speaker. A few more steps and you bump into your subordinate, grabbing each others hands in a polite dance of sorry's and awkward suggestions to dance the next song together. You didn't want to judge, but she seemed like she needed to take a few gulps of water. You circled yourself out of her grip, and as you turned around once again with a smile and a small bow, you bumped into someone once again. You quickly turned around and jumped back this time, surprised and shocked. The victim of your awkward stumbling turned around, too, but you really didn't need him to. You've been staring at this suede light brown jacket for hours. You recognized it immediately. You knew exactly who you bumped into.
"Oh, I'm sorry." you smiled as his dimples hypnotised you.
"No, you're good." he waved you off and smiled more. The gesture and the voice and the eyes made you weak at the knees, and also made you want to reach the bathroom sooner. An arm slapped his nape, at which he jerked surprised, his almost full glass spilled the beverage on his finger.
An arm now wrapped over his neck and before your eyes appeared Jaemin. Your gaze shifted once again, watching the man in light brown jacket lick the droplet of, you assumed, gin, off the side of his finger.
You flushed. This was a workspace. Why would he show you his tongue in the first place, even before introducing himself properly, and why would that very mindless action make you cross your legs? You had a very explicit answer to that, but you weren't about to tell anyone all that.
"Ah! Y/n!" Jaemin exclaimed and a very satisfied grin appeared on his face. You wondered what would've caused that, you weren't familiar to that extent. Jaehyun just blinked, he clearly didn't know you personally.
"We haven't met, yet." you let Jaemin know, clearing the awkwardness that maybe only you felt.
"You're kidding?" Jaemin addressed the man in his hold. "You aren't?" he did look shocked, as Jaehyun looked at him still with no specific face expression. You didn't know you were that big of a person in this company, for it to be a surprise you haven't introduced yourself to someone new. It's been 3 months, but still, he's new here. "That's y/n, then. Taeyeon adores her. She's the head of her group. Super responsible, insanely trustworthy, and quite friendly if she likes you enough." You opened your mouth shocked at the last bit. First of all, you really held back to open your mouth in shock since the beginning of that monologue. You had no clue that's what your boss was going around saying about you. If you were a tad bit more drunk, you would've cried on the spot and found her for a hug. Second of all, you really were flabbergasted that Jaemin cared enough to remember. Third of all, the way he smiled at quite friendly if she likes you enough made you dizzy. You really wanted him to know he was at the top of the list of people you liked. Fuck, after he reached a hand to shake yours, you maybe were ready to confess you loved him.
"I'm Jaehyun. I hope you like me enough to be friendly." your heart exploded in your chest and made your palm sweaty. You wished to dodge the handshake, but he reached a little forward, and you had no choice but to shake it. His fingers were a little chill to the touch.
"Of course, of course." You hid your hand behind your back, giving him awkward giggles between each word.
"I'm leading Nari's team. I saw you two chat before? You know Nari, right?" he acted like he weren't sure, gesturing with his hand towards the opensace area.
"Yeah, we're friends. I heard of you before." you said and bit your tongue. Shit, now he's going to assume you gossip about him. His lips formed a little 'o'. "Not in that way." You waved your hands in front of him, hoping he'd understand it's really not in that way. Jaehyun simply laughed.
"I hope I'm not too much of a fussy baby when it comes to work." he probably referred to the fact Nari could've complained about him.
"Oh, no. No, I wouldn't gossip around like that-." And if I would, I won't say it to your face, duh.
"It's okay." he shook his head, clearly amused. Fuck, you hated this. Why were you all awkward and scared and nervous like that over someone else's boss? You were just one step behind in your career, also very bright mind, if you say so yourself. Stupid pretty privilege of that stupid pretty man. You moved your eyes to Jaemin, he wasn't making you nervous one bit. You could very much talk to him freely.
Jaemin ran his eyes between you and Jaehyun with a smirk. What was happening in his intoxicated mind?
"I'm sorry, I was heading for the bathroom." It's better to just fleet. "Do you mind?" you gestured behind their backs.
"Of course." Jaehyun stepped aside, pushing along his... ugh. Who were they? Judging by the grip on his neck, friends? Just close colleagues? Anyways, you took a step forward and left.
-
"You left for the bathroom and never came back, traitor." Renjun plopped on the couch next to you. You were hiding from people, trying to calm your body and mind down. "Drinking all alone? That's a double traitor. What happened?" Yeah, calming your body and mind with alcohol. Stupid idea.
"I bumped into your boss! Jaemin smiled at me weirdly." your voice full of complaints. You hoped it was enough to cover that his smile wasn't the only thing that weirded you out.
"And?" Renjun wasn't scandalised like you wanted him to be. He just sighed.
"I felt weird. I didn't want to return back there and bump into him once again." You didn't fully lie about that. Jaemin did scare you a little with those eyes.
"He's always smiling weirdly, that's his trademark." Renjun snorted. "You missed a whole lot of fun, though." you pouted and took a sip.
"I need to head home. Subway's closing soon." Nari sighed, and you peeped at your phone. Midnight, it really was almost the time to go back home. The party would be over any minute now.
"Let's just wait till the DJ wraps up?" you suggested, maybe because you hoped for the drinks to settle in your system just a little more, maybe because you wondered who Jaehyun will leave with and where he has to go.
"You're the lucky girl that can just walk from here home. I need to commute with a subway and another train." She was right, but also you wouldn't walk anywhere all alone completely drunk. You'll call the taxi.
"You can crash mine." Renjun suggested.
"Yeah, and take the same hour to get there."
"At least you won't be commuting alone." Renjun shrugged.
"Ah, it's fine. I lived there my whole life. I'm used to this."
"Okay." Renjun nodded.
The music still blasted, but it seemed like people were also looking forward to heading home, a small wave exceeded the kitchen area and some of them headed towards the coat room direction and some, in yours.
Jaemin, Jaehyun, Taeyeon, Baek and Sung all headed to the open space area you were crashing, and you genuinely panicked, changing your posture, collecting yourself to look somewhat presentable, when or better if, Jaehyun takes a look at you.
The group was passing by in a conversation, not paying attention to you, and you almost gave out a sigh of relief, when Renjun reached out a hand and grabbed Jaemin by the elbow and he stopped in his tracks, also making all of your bosses stop and stare at you three.
Renjun was out of your friend group starting this very second, you decided.
"I'm gonna head home." He announced to his boss.
"Okay, see you Monday then." The answer is predicted, why would Jaemin care much anyway?
"I'm going too, then." Nari nods, happy that she has company at least on her way to subway.
"Okay, see you guys Monday." Baek gave you all a nod, his arm gripping over his wife's waist tightly. The group seemed to take a step away, as Jaehyun pulled on Taeyeon's shoulder. You watched how he made a silent gesture in your direction and never felt more awkward. He stopped people from walking so Taeyeon would check on you going back home. It was awkward, but your heart almost flattered at the gesture, scratch the stupid pretty privilege comment made earlier.
"Oh, she's fine. She lives almost around the corner." Taeyeon waved him off lightheartedly. She was right, and you knew she didn't care because she knew your whereabouts well.
"Oh right. What was the street? That's one fancy place." Baek smiled, scratching his temple to remember. "Ah, something funny?"
"Summer street." you help him out.
"Summer street?" Jaehyun raised both his brows up.
"Ugh... yeah? Summer 125 is my address." You chuckled, confusion spread all over your face.
"Right. That's exactly how you said it when I first asked. Pretty funny to me, my adress is Summer 125."
"Mine's Summer 127." it was your turn to gasp at Jaehyun’s words.
"Really?" You raised a brow.
"Yeah, I never knew I worked with a neighbor." he chuckled. "Nice to meet you then, again."
"Right." You smiled too, again.
It sounded like bad news to you. How were you supposed to sleep tonight, knowing in the building right next to yours Jaehyun was going on with his life, not caring for you. So close yet so far away. Not thinking that you're somewhere near, while you'll be agonizing with curiousity and want.
"I'm heading home too, we could get there together." he said excitedly, placing a glass on the coffee table. Your eyes caught how it was still almost full. Was it the same drink? If you weren't hallucinating, he seemed thrilled to be able to walk home with you. You held back a reaction, thinking how about 10 sets of eyes looked at you for response.
"Ah, I wanted to take a walk, actually." you excused yourself. There was absolutely no chance you wanted to be left alone with him. Drunk and horny. It'd be distressing.
Jaehyun scratched a brow and shrugged a little as he answered back. "I'm cool with a walk, I got here by car and have to leave it." His eyes landed on the glass that he left just a second ago. "So yeah, walk's fine."
"I don't want to bother you t-." you protested, ready to stand up and deny him further. You wanted him in your personal so badly you didn't want to stay one on one with the man if he didn't have it in his plans to get you in his bed in the upcoming hour. If that made any sense.
"You get here by car? When you can literally see your house from the building?" Jaemin laughed and cut you off, very rudely.
"She does that too." Taeyeon giggled.
"Okay, weird people, it only makes sense you're neighbours." Jaemin snorted.
"How does it make sense?" Nari asked confused.
You didn't know. But some sort of connection to Jaehyun made your heart pool with warmth.
You stood up, maybe too quickly, maybe it would've happened no matter the speed, but you stumbled and hit your side on the tall armrest of the couch and was caught from further falling by Sung.
"Thank you." you whispered very awkwardly.
"Alright, Jaehyun you're definitely walking this girl home. I won't be able to sleep until you tell me she's in the safety of her house." Taeyeon sounded like a mom, you appreciated her care. You didn't appreciate though that her caring involved him.
"I'm fine, promise. Just not the best mixture of drinks." you chuckled. Taeyeon gave you the look, and you stopped smiling.
"Okay, we take off. Bye-bye." Renjun stood up too, helping Nari up and walking away from your group.
"Text me." You call out. The rest also suddenly continued with moving, Jaehyun though, kept his eyes on you.
"Shall we?" he asks after clearing his throat. Ugh, you really hated this. You hated his wish to help you get home. You don't want him to be your friend. You don't need any more friends. You need him as a lover.
"Sure." you gave him a nod and walked in the wardrobe direction. You could feel the phantom of his arm over your back, you guessed in case you tripped once again, you knew he'd catch you. Very mindful of him. You hated that he was making you more into him with every passing second.
"Sleep tight!" Taeyeon called out, and you turned around to blow her kisses, that somehow looked like they were addressed at everyone in that group. Whatever, if Jaehyun allows the phantom of his fingers to scoop you in his very real hold and take you to his home, you'll kiss every person in that office on the mouth on Monday.
Jaehyun offered help as you struggled with your coat, you kindly declined and made him watch your lonely battle. As you won, the two of you got to the first floor in a very packed elevator.
You headed towards your street, Jaehyun kept a mindful distance between you two and you were thankful for that. Giving your brain a chance to sober up and not do stupid things and ruin your entire career at the agency. You would not be able to continue working there if you did something inappropriate against his will.
"So, I guess we can say hi to each other if we meet on weekends." Jaehyun retorted quietly. You didn't turn to look at him.
"Yeah. Have you lived here long? I don't think I've genuinely seen you before?" You wondered. You would've noticed a hot neighbor at some point.
"Five years i think. You?"
"This was my parents gift for future investments when I was in school and dad had spare money. I've owned it for forever, but lived... maybe around 7 years?"
"I see." Jaehyun paused his talking and you really wanted to turn around and see his face expression. Was he thinking what to ask you next or that was all the information he needed and his plan was to get home in quietness. Good thing you didn't have enough time to decide on turning around. Jaehyun continued to speak. "Mind if I asked how old are you?"
"Mind if I ask how old do you think I am?" you flirted, all of a sudden, turning around with a sweet smile to see him.
"Well, if I met you on the street, I'd think you were barely 18. But since I know you from work... 25, maybe?" he raised a brow and stopped walking, expecting an answer. You faced him properly.
"One year up." you gestured with your pointing finger up.
"Ah- almost." He bit his lip and gifted you a smile. The one that made both his dimples visible. "I'm 27."
"I see." You gave him a nod. "So you got this place all by yourself at the age of 22?" You didn't mean to voice out the question like that, or maybe voice it at all. Jaehyun smiled wider at your boldness. If you got that apartment years ago as an investment, back when the district wasn't the fancy skyscraper area, he most definitely got it when the prices rose up to heaven. You were curious if he was also filthy rich in addition to all his other accomplishments.
"No, a loan and help of parents too, of course." You gave him a nod and continued to walk. Still sounded like he was filthy rich to you.
"So, do you like it here?" You asked, not even sure what you meant. Walking in pure quietness felt like you had nothing in common, and you knew it wasn't the case. At least you both drove your cars to the office next door, right?
"Here as in the neighborhood or here as in the company?" He continued walking a little behind.
"Company first." You decided you'd want to hear about the neighborhood a bit later.
"Ya'll seem like a fun bunch of people. My previous agency never had office parties, too, so it's already a win." he chuckled behind you. You didn't give him a visible reaction. Smiling with your back to his face.
"It doesn't happen too often." It really was maybe a twice in a year situation.
"Anyway, it's a nice way to meet new people."
"That's true." you nodded, slowing down so he'd maybe catch up to you. If he wanted to talk about meeting the new people -you-, you had to have him right next to you.
"We would've possibly not talked if not this." He said it a little slower or softer? Or quieter? Or you were out of this world intoxicated and full-on imagined things that weren't there? You had a history of projecting your own feelings onto others, you weren't sure in anything.
"Yeah, would've been a bummer." You nodded casually. What a big fucking bummer it would've been.
"Is that sarcasm?" he snorted. You had to turn around and look him in the eyes to make sure the tone of your voice didn't offend him.
"No, it would've been a bummer." You said with sincerity. "Didn't Jaemin tell you, if I like you, I'll be quite friendly. Ain't I friendly enough?" you tilted your head a little. You were friendly enough. It felt like the only right thing to do next is step a little closer and see if he'd mind you kiss him. But then again, you promised to keep yourself together for the sake of your working sanity.
But you really liked him too, and your feet made you take a step forward with no warning.
"You are. Very much, thank you." he smiled with a bite of his lower lip.
"What for?" you couldn't hold back a frown and also stepped one more step closer.
"For bumping into me, I guess." You looked away, unable to give him an appropriate reaction. Your heart was giving out on you once again. You turned away, wobbled and walked a little sideways, getting directly in front of Jaehyun. It was almost comical how you almost bumped once again right after that comment was made. He grabbed your forearm to walk you next to him.
"This is not intentional, I promise." you had to make it clear. It really wasn't.
"I believe you, it's the funny mixture of drinks in your system." His lips formed a little quirky smile.
"How would you know?" you flushed once again, did he watch you? You hoped he really did.
"You said that to Taeyeon." his lips fell downwards, upset with you not getting him. You completely forgot you said that. Maybe you were much more drunk than you initially felt.
"Yeah, right." Dissapointment washed all over you. Jaehyun's fingers still gripped onto your forearm even though you were okay now. "Good thing you know how to manage your drinking." you tried a little teasing on him. "Guess that comes from your managing position?" You smirked, eyes searching his face for a reaction.
"Ha-ha." Jaehyun replied dryly, swallowing a smile. Still, his eyes gave you a look of appreciation. Like he liked your teasing, but had to keep his brain straight. "I was just hoping to get home by car and didn't drink tonight." he shrugged and then kinda slowed down. You wondered if he bit his tongue.
"I saw you with a drink." You frowned confused.
"Ugh, should I really tell you that it was water?" Your eyes caught only a glimpse of his eye roll.
"Water!?" you turned around, Jaehyun's fingers falling off your arm. "You said you can't return by car anyway?" That was exactly his wording, you didn't hallucinate, you were sure.
"You didn't want a car ride, and I really didn't want to leave you alone to walk back home drunk." His brow quirked at you. You could see his face search for any signs of you being mad. You weren't. You just wished he said it sooner. This would've let you know he wanted you too. There was no way he didn't, with effort he put in to get back home with you. Possibly, to the exact same apartment as you.
"And why would you care so much for someone you barely know?" All you asked of him is to open up his cards, and you'd do the same.
"A couple of hours ago I found out that your smile is the most captivating thing in this city, and since then, I kinda can't help but be drawn to you." Jaehyun's eyes blinked at you in slow rhythm, allowing your drunken mind to process the words that left his mouth. Captivating? Oh wow. Drawned to you? Damn. If that was just some bluff to get in your pants, you'd help him do the button. You were sure your face expressed confusion, but Jaehyun smiled, and you realised you smiled at him dumbly for a few seconds with no other reaction at all.
"Oh my god." you turned away and quickened your pace. Why the hell would he say that, and why would you short circuit at his words and embarrass yourself by running away. Your face expression most definitely took your aura to zero. You really wanted to get home quickly and hide, losing hope he still was captivated after your reaction. It was only convenient your house was closer than his to where you were coming from.
"You're feeling better? You walk quite fast and in a much straighter line." he chuckled at his last comment.
"I am."
"Hey, y/n." he called out and finally seemed to put to use his long legs - Jaehyun caught up in a few steps and walked in line with you. "I'm sorry, I lied if it bothers you. I don’t, usually, lie much." You wondered if he wanted you to know he was serious about all this captivating stuff. You just wished he'll make things clearer for you. You hoped for two outcomes only. Either he would get in your bed, or you'll black out this whole conversation.
"It's nothing. It's sweet that you sacrificed a 5 minute ride back home for a 20-minute walk with me." You turned around. "This is my house." you raised an arm gesturing at the building. It's obvious Jaehyun knew where building 125 was, he slowed down and stopped. "Thanks again, I'll go."
"Ugh, wait." he stopped you mid-turn, and the way he chewed on his lip, you wondered what exactly was happening in his head. If he wanted to come upstairs with you, he just needed to take a step your way. If you were completely honest with yourself, at this point, you wished he had stopped the motion and let you go. You were shocked he liked you too and needed time to sober up and process it. You needed to sleep on it. Sleep alone.
You clearly wanted him as much, there was no doubt. You had no power to contain your wishes any longer, but hearing him being drawn to you also made you not want to ruin the natural flow of things. If he liked you like that, maybe he'd move towards you in his own natural pace? "Taeyeon said I should walk you directly to your apartment." No, NO. You lived on the 20th floor, and the elevator ride will take hours. Small rooms and you with him alone aren't the plan. Not when he said those things and pushed you halfway off the cliff of horniness. "I have to make sure you're safe on her behalf." Maybe he didn't have a slower pace than you did. This was not that smooth of a way to get to your home.
"We have a concierge. Nothing would happen to me on the elevator ride." You protested. If Jaehyun just wanted to see you close the door of your apartment before his face, you'll not let him get up with you.
"Don't refuse me?" he lowered the tone of his voice, and your heart went in overdrive. Whatever you thought of not letting him come with you was long forgotten. Wow, if that's how he planned on talking to you when he begged, you'll agree to anything. You actually had to seal your lips to not let that 'wow' come alive.
"Agh, okay-." You just nodded.
"Okay." Jaehyun gave you a nod and took a few steps towards the building. You stood at the same spot, watching him take off. He seemed eager but also nervous, but also, you could've projected all your feelings onto him once again. Because you were dead nervous, but also so excited to be with him even for another five minutes. You really wished in this moment you were teenagers. You'd just kiss and brush it off like nothing ever happened. Because kissing when you're young is okay. Kissing your co-worker does not sound fun even if he's drawn to you. But also, the co-worker being Jaehyun makes all the risk worth it.
A demon and an angel were bumping heads on your shoulders, pushing you off the cliff on one side and not letting you do anything stupid on the other. Jaehyun looked behind his shoulder and returned back to you.
"You coming?" his palm landed on the lower part of your back for a little push to make you move.
You greeted the concierge and heard the elevator ding. You stepped in and pressed yourself in a corner. The further you are, the safer you are from mistakes.
Jaehyun walked right behind you and gave you a look. You looked right back at him, questioning his stare. Did he expect you to jump him after the confession? The tension on your side of the elevator was too high to handle.
Right until it hit you. How the fuck would you get anywhere if you didn't press the floor button? Jaehyun had no idea what floor you lived on.
"Shoot, it's 20th floor." You chuckled awkwardly, pushing your body off the surface to reach for the button, Jaehyun did also that and your fingers landed on top of his. You jerked back in an unsuccessful attempt to lose contact.
Why would it be unsuccessful when your hand left his? Well, the man thought you were falling once again and caught you by your shoulders.
"See, and you didn't want me to take you to the door. What if you stumbled on your own and hit your head?" That's a pretty dramatic stretch, you swallowed the comment.
"I didn't actu-" You swallowed that comment too "Thank you." he stretched his mouth out in a thin line, making a ridiculous show off of his dimples and tapped your shoulder, letting go of you afterwards.
The elevator dinged once again, and you thanked God, walking out quickly in the direction of your door. There's literally nothing else left, punching in the code and locking the door from behind. The carpeting deafened all sounds, making it seem like you two were sneaking in, even though there was nothing sneaky about this walk. Jaehyun trailed right behind you, and as you stopped at the door, you breathed all the air out and turned around with a smile. "This is my apartment." you tapped the door awkwardly with the back of your hand. You really wished you had the guts to joke around and tell him Sorry, can't invite you for tea tonight. You would've, if your heart didn't beat in your throat. Jaehyun raised his eyes and seemed to memorize the number on the door. "Thank you for taking Taeyeon's words so seriously and walking me home. I appreciate it." You puckered your lips, moving your gaze from his face to Jaehyun's chest.
"It's my pleasure, honestly, to keep you company." your mouth kinda opened at that. Was he planning to go completely bold with you? The air was thick with unspoken words, and you wondered, honestly, if he could feel that too. Things he said made you question your sanity in the worst way possible because it felt like he flirted. But does he? Would he? Is he doing what you asked for - laying all his cards out?
A smile plastered on your face mirroring Jaehyun's one, silence descended further within the corridor, almost deafening as your ears rang, still not used to quietness after the party. You couldn't even hear your breaths. You had no clue what reply to give him at those words. Maybe it was your cue to bow and unlock the door. Jaehyun shifted his weight, and you almost flinched backward, thinking he was leaning in to you. The small talk really wasn't talking on your side. Your guts were only telling you to kiss him.
As you were about to find the strength to talk, to thank him once again and say goodbye, Jaehyun's hand gently cupped your cheek, tilting your face upwards. Your eyes flattered. His palm was like a heater to your skin now - compared to that icy handshake at the office. You shivered as your eyes met, a silent understanding passing between you two. He was telling you non-verbally, he'd make a move if you'll let him know you want him to.
If only he knew how badly you wanted him to, if he could feel the speed of your heart pumping blood right this moment, he'd be concerned for your health. You clutched your fist on the material of his dress shirt, letting your back hit your door and rest against it and pull Jaehyun with you. A smile adorned his beautiful face for a split second, right after that he had turned it to a focused expression, running his eyes all over your face, until his lips landed on your lips and he made a move towards you. This time, you had no room to move away. And you didn't want to, really.
Jaehyun’s lips brushed yours, a barely-there feather-light touch that sent shivers down your spine. He moved his neck back, to see if you didn't want him to continue and pulled him in for a different reason. Like there was anything else you two could do pressed against the door.
You still appreciated how he moved around with care and mindfulness. You extended your neck, rising on your tiptoes and captured his lips in the same feather-light kiss.
The brush of his mouth was gentle at first, soft and teasing, as if he were savoring the sweetness of the moment. Then, the kiss deepened, Jaehyun turning it into a slow burn. Everything faded away, leaving only the sensation of his lips on yours, the taste of him, the warmth of his embrace. Your hands found their way to the nape of his neck, fingers tangling in his soft hair, pulling him closer, deeper.
Jaehyun responded with a low growl, capturing your bottom lip between his teeth, a playful nip that sent a flood of warmth down your core. “Jaehyun…” you moaned, your voice barely a whisper. The sound drew a smirk from the man in front of you, and he kissed you again, this time with an intensity that made your head spin. His mouth was a perfect blend of sweetness, igniting all your senses.
“I swear I didn’t walk you to your apartment for this,” Jaehyun found power to pull back and clarify. He murmured against your lips, his voice warm and seductive. "But seeing you... I can't hold back."
You laughed softly. “I know you didn’t. I trust you.” your eyes locked onto his. You hoped he could read that this was exactly the reason you hoped he walked you all the way up here.
With every kiss you felt yourself melting, and when he nudged his teeth against the soft skin of your neck, sending a rush of heat through your body once again, you couldn't help but arch into him. “Jaehyun… please,” you breathed with desperation, urging him on. If he starts to undress you here, you will let him do that, too.
He cupped your face with both his hands, his fingers brushing against your cheeks, just your face. You made a remark in your head. Despite what his tongue was doing to your mouth and your neck, his palms were keeping the interaction PG. And since Jaehyun acted like all he needed was your lips, your arms clutched onto the dress shirt around his waist, holding back from excessive touching.
As he kissed you, though, your body craved more. He was putting your body on fire. It was getting more and more difficult to keep your hands on his waist. You had to know, you couldn't make the first move without knowing what he wants and likes. What if he has some sort of Christian Grey trauma and hates being touched, thus refrains himself from properly touching others?
“Don’t hold back,” you whispered between feverish kisses, starting from afar. Maybe Jaehyun was considering your feelings and not his. You wished he was a mind reader or some shit, that way you would not have been forced to drool over him from around the corner for all those months. He'd know you wanted him and get to action sooner.
“God,” he murmured against your mouth, the sound raw and unrestrained. “You feel incredible.” With every brush of his lips against yours, you could sense now how fervently he wanted you, how the chemistry had transformed. His right hand finally let go of your face and slid down onto your waist, gripping onto your skin with so much passion and need. His lips found their way onto the sensitive skin next to your ear, right where your jaw met with it, making your core arch forward his body and moan. Your eyes widened, not realising before you felt it, how turned on Jaehyun was from kissing you. While widening your eyes, you also crossed your gaze with CCTV cam and realised you quite possibly are watched right now by your concierge. You pulled back to pull him into the safety and warmth of your apartment, but Jaehyun seemed confused, trying to pull you back close to him.
A sly smile creeped onto your lips as you whispered. “Jaehyun, we should get inside. My concierge is probably watching us like a TV drama” Jaehyun followed your stare, also noticing the camera and losing all contact with you, letting you open the door.
The door clicked shut behind you and Jaehyun barely had time to step fully in or adjust his eyes to pure darkness before you were pulling him towards your body, your lips crashing together once more with an urgency that set your heart racing. And also set your heart with the only goal for the rest of the night - taking him inside of you whatever number of times he pleases.
His hands found their way around your waist, fingers digging gently into your hips as he pressed your back against the cool wall of your apartment. The kiss deepened, transforming from soft exploration into something wild and uninhibited. You melted against him, every ounce of tension in your body dissipating as your mouths moved in perfect harmony. Jaehyun’s lips were warm and inviting, drawing you in with a new force, darkness seemingly changing the trajectory of his actions. He was much bolder now, his mouth sucking in the skin, leaving red spots on bruised skin that borderlined with hickeys. Jaehyun's hands roamed all over your body, gliding across your back and tangling in your hair, securing you against him as though he was afraid you could slip away.
“Jaehyun,” you breathed between kisses, overwhelmed by the sensations surging through your body.
You also felt more confident in your actions, threading your fingers through his hair, pulling him closer, wanting more—more kisses, more intimacy, more heat. You could feel him struggling in his pants, pressing him more against your thigh. You felt intoxicated at the idea of setting him free. Jaehyun tilted his head, trying to deepen the kiss, his mouth moving along yours.
As both your breathing grew heavier, you could feel his fingers inching beneath the hem of your top, exploring the soft skin of your bare sides. You were on literal fire, you tried to press into him so badly, if it was possible to just melt against him, you would. Jaehyun was straight out of your dream. He was your walking fever dream, forcing his mouth and body against you and at the very back of your head you had a very certain but very small concern regarding this - you were scared you were passed out somewhere in the office after the party and dreamed this whole interaction. Your fingers found the waistband of his dress pants, and your palm sneaked down the zipper, giving him a squeeze.
But just as it felt like you were spiraling into something deeper, something that would blur the lines further, Jaehyun suddenly pulled back, his brow furrowed. The heat in his eyes burned bright even in darkness, but there was an unmistakable hesitation there “Tell me to stop,” he urged, his voice thick with a mix of desire and restraint as he searched your gaze, pupils dilated with tension and horninnes.
You let the words hang in the air for a moment. “Did I do something wrong?” you asked concerned while also being breathless and a little bewildered, your heart pounding with a mix of urgency and eagerness as you tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear. You shouldn't have touched his crotch. You ruined the whole fucking thing. Disappointment in yourself flooded your head and your eyes fell onto his chest, trying really hard to not lower down to his bulge.
“Tell me I can't have you—yet.” he added the yet as his fingers squeezed your chin, forcing your head back up. Jaehyun wasn't looking for just a fleeting encounter; he wanted something more significant, something meaningful. Thus, he shouldn’t be getting it all in one night. You felt the same thing within your heart, at least the meaningful part. You wanted to have him for an eternity, but that didn't mean you can't have him tonight.
“No, baby, you can,” you murmured, embracing your own need. “I want you to.” The pet name that left your mouth stirred your own insides. You hoped he could sense you didn't want him for just drunk sex too. With your words resting in the space between you, Jaehyun leaned in once more, kissing you deeply—a long, lingering kiss that spoke volumes. It was as if he was trying to savor the moment, capturing every ounce of his unshared emotions as if this kiss could seal the promise of what was to come.
Your lips met again and again, easing from passionate urgency into softer caresses, and despite your words, Jaehyun made sure to lower the degree of your kissing.
No sex was coming your way tonight. You could feel it in the way his arms chastely rested on your waist. Body pressed against body, you could feel his heart racing in rhythm with yours, and it made every touch feel like a sweet revelation.
Eventually, Jaehyun pulled back again, his lips brushing softly against your mouth, leaving you breathless and wanting more. “I should go,” he finally said, his voice laced with something heavy, but there was still a lingering warmth in his gaze.
“Okay,” you whispered, already feeling the pang of reluctance settling into your chest. There was no point in fighting him now. You didn't know him well, but you could tell his mind was made up already. His ground can not be shaken. He moved at his own pace, and if you wanted to have him in your life , you had to respect that.
Jaehyun brushed his thumb along your cheek, a lingering touch that radiated promise even in farewell. “Goodnight, and… thank you for tonight.”
With one last gentle kiss, he stepped backward, the door closing softly behind him. You stood there, heart racing and mind swirling, knowing that tonight was only the beginning of something beautifully complicated. The kiss lingered on you lips as you showered and got yourself ready for bed, for the first time in a while not being able to contain your excitement for Monday.
