Golden Age Green Lantern

Talia smiles, and her heart simply floods with so much joy that it spills out her eyes. The bundle of perfection in her arms is fleeting, but in this moment, they are together.

He is set in a sling, snug against her body. The basket, crafted by her own hands, is lined with blankets. A tag sits, ready to be tied, with a name scrawled in impeccable cursive in the middle. Damian, it reads. The name of her precious angel. Beside it, a bracelet. One made just for her baby. It’ll grow with him, and be a small way to connect him, but not burden him, with his first home. Artisan and gold, shining like the sun, shining like his beautiful brown eyes. He is destined for a greatness she does not yet understand—happiness.

He is carried out into the night, the stars impossibly clear considering the light pollution of American Suburbia. They light the way to the house she’s made her destination. She’s done plenty of research before hand; a young couple, one a successful author, the other a decorated chemist. Judging by their search history, they’re interested in having a baby. With any luck, they’ll view Damian’s drop-off as fate.

She sets the basket down, and nestles Damian within it before quickly covering him with the surrounding blankets. She ties the tag to the basket and clasps the bracelet against his wrist, hanging loose yet secure. With one more kiss, she rings the doorbell and disappears into the night.

Years pass, and Talia learns she has a sister who brings with her a nephew. He’s only five, baby fat still clinging to his cheeks, but her heart sinks at the scars that coat him from his head to his toes. Upon her grandfather’s request, she agrees to help train him, if not to help keep a closer eye on the boy. His eyes glitter a familiar green, and distantly she wonders why their shape is painfully familiar.

Nyssa smiles, neither kind nor cruel, and continues to fidget with the golden bracelet nestled within her pocket.

What I hate is when people try so hard to justify Dick's hate for Talia because people like him better than her (not me but yk).

Like noooo there's no justification. "Oh Talia did this" "Talia did that" everything you have just said has either been retconned, is racist writing, overall poor writing from people who don't understand Talia or written in a comic that is obviously there to uplift Dick (yes Talia has been degraded to uplift Selina, Dick and Bruce).

Literally just let it be, Dick doesn't like Talia because he doesn't like Ra's. "But Talia kidnapped him" Ra's did, where was Talia in those panels? Right she wasn't in them. Talia was in Med school, the girl had better things to do.

"Talia was close to Dick's age" No it was disproved because in the same comic series she was revealed to be 150 years old. Talia being 150 years old has also been retconned, she is now the same age as Bruce.

Just let Dick be petty, yes I know he's y'all's Golden boy but it's never that deep. Dick hates Talia for petty reasons and Talia either doesn't care and ignores him or she replies sarcastically to whatever he says.

Just let Dick be petty.

My headcanon is that the Justice League thinks Talia is a villain who is constantly trying to take over the world, but instead of denying it she indulges them and involves Bruce.

Talia will make it a big deal to follow Bruce anytime he goes to the JL HQ and to be lovey dovey with him and ask him things like "Would do anything for me Beloved?" When Bruce says yes Talia will stare dead at the JL members across the room. Then she'll give Batman a big kiss without breaking eye contact with them.

One time she interrupted a meeting asking where the bathroom is. Afterwards they found her in the computer room doing something on the computer (she was just typing jibberish on a word document) and Talia said "What! This isn't the bathroom! Silly me! You know how it is with postpartum brain."

Green Latern: Isn't Robin 15 years old??

Wonder Woman and Superman continously voice their concerns but Batman always brushes them off. The Justice league is convinced he is under a spell and the others make Zatanna try and break the "spell" without Batman realizing.

Talia loves to slip in the phrase "world domination" "as a joke" when speaking to Bruce when the Justice League is around.

To top it off anytime she "slips up" about world domination around Bruce and Bruce "inquires" what she means. Talia will just pull Bruce into a passionate kiss in front of the Justice League. They so think Batman is under a spell.

I completely understand why they chose to age up Izzy Hands in “Our Flag Means Death”. In fact, basically all the characters are aged up from their more likely historical ages- pirates didn’t have particularly long live spans. Izzy Hands is my favorite ofmd character and the direction they took with him requires his to be this angry, pathetic, masochistic, old man. (Plus it doesn’t hurt that the actor is both fantastic and hot.)

However, I can’t help but imagine a late adolescence 16-19 year old Izzy.

An Izzy, who like Stede, had always admired Blackbeard and wanted to be like him, but who was capable of violence because he had been forced into it to survive.

An Izzy who Edward took in because he saw himself in this boy and saw him as someone he can take in and mold as a mini version of himself, only as this goes on, for Ed to realize that doesn’t even like himself so the parts he liked about Izzy were the parts that uniquely belong to Izzy. Parts that Ed weeded out, only to resent the outcome at how similar the two of them had become.

An Izzy who Stede can’t bring himself to be mad at, because that’s just a child, only a few years older than his eldest. And an Izzy who takes this sympathy and care as condescending and reacts aggressively in order to prove himself.

I think it could pose a big question to Ed’s morality that he would be willing to let this child, not only on his ship, but as his right-hand man. Even if Izzy was in a previously violent situation, Ed is just introducing him to another one.  

I just think it could be interesting to have this masochist worship, but without any of the definite romance. (Maybe Izzy could still have feelings for Ed, because he’s not exactly a father figure, but their relationship is far from professional so he’s not sure what it is and he develops these complex romantic feelings in the confusion. This has the added benefit where Izzy is longing for an affection that will never be reciprocated in any form. Ed trying to ignore the fact that he is taking advantage of the kid’s feelings anytime he has him do something. Izzy feeling like Stede taking Ed from him, even though ed was never his in the first place and never could be. Idk, a lot of these are kinda already done in the show, but I do think the age difference would inherently change the way it’s done. I do actually think it’s more tragic that in the show there is nothing inherent about Izzy that makes Ed unable to love him the way he should, he just… doesn’t.)

I think in general, I would’ve liked to see a teen character in the show, apart of the crew. I would’ve especially liked to see the dynamics it would’ve created with Ed and Stede. The moral dilemma of allowing a child in a violent environment when they no doubt were already in one prior. Most pirates were teenagers and young people in their twenties, so it seems fitting to me. Obviously though, I love the direction they when with Izzy. He’s such a unique, nuance character and I love him sm
