Taissa had almost not come. Despite what Van seemed to think, this was hard for her, too. Just the sound of Van’s voice over the phone threatened to split her chest open, and she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to keep it together if she saw Van sitting right in front of her. But, in the end, Van was evidently okay with this, so Taissa decided that she would at least pretend to be, too.
