happy opening !! hi, i'm halley (she/her), and i'm super excited to present my marble-cold miracle: lee jinie, a twenty-three year old astrophysics major and reigning president of lyra, the most cutthroat social collective on campus. tldr, as a character created under the ‘passive prodigy’ label, she’s got that whole gifted genius thing going on, but without the desperation to prove it. some more information about her upcoming below the cut !

academically & emotionally untouchable, she lives off the elegant satisfaction of being underestimated as a woman in stem ! inspired by #failure, she frequently subjects herself to almost masochistic (?) attempts at trying new things — whether it be a terrible wardrobe choice or joining a jiu-jitsu class she was objectively too tired for. ( spoiler: she never tapped out & ended up with the bruises to show for it. )

highkey inspired by ginny weasley ( ginny … jinie … ), has a bunch of older brothers that all have their own beat — doctor, corporate shark, national athlete, poet laureate, etc. — going on. she gets attention & affection for just being her, but there’s no real empty space to fill in the very, very full medal & trophy cabinet ( literally ). so she settles for just being brilliant without consequence, to just doing things because she wants to — and honestly ? she’s happy that way !

desperately in need of a rival — academically, socially, both ??? someone to bring jinie out of her ‘idgaf’ funk and get her fighting over dumb petty things, like that (1) seat in the library or the last chocolate muffin in the cafeteria, because fighting over grades is so pointless when you’ve both got a perfect 4.5 gpa ??

next door neighbour ( gaeum ) who’s convinced jinie is up to No Good because they see her hauling a huge bag down the hallway at 3am in the morning, followed by nights of muffled screaming through the walls … she also gets those weird fresh vegetable and fruit box subscriptions to her door and nothing good ever came out of those … 

club buddies : someone to play badminton with at 9pm and giggle over pronouncing ‘shuttlecock’ in the most plummy british accent ever, someone to reenact the queen’s gambit with at chess club and also make up weird versions of chess where the king & queen line up is at the front and the pawns are the back, and someone to go to pick up plastic bags by the han river and hand out environmental campaign leaflets with on campus !

oh no we hooked up once at the freshers’ party as freshmen and we like to pretend it never happened except other people keep reminding us all these years down the line and maybe i think about it too sometimes ? maybe ? but i’d rather drink battery acid from professor lee’s rancid hip flask than admit that ! type plot. maybe it’s awkward because jinie & your muse are genuinely great friends now and who wants to end such a cool friendship ? or maybe it’s because they both realised they’re really not each other’s type of person ( lbr, jinie can be super obnoxious ) so it’s just unfortunate that they find each other hot … rip

meet uglies at random places / times on campus : bumping into each other by total coincidence when they’d really NOT rather see anyone. like one time, jinie was attacked by a bunch of pigeons whilst attempting to eat a croissant outside and your muse happened to stumble across the scene of jinie’s breakfast, clothes and hair being attacked by those savages … etc. 

jinie sees this super cute student frequenting the geum gym on campus & she’s been trying to get a student athlete to get her in … maybe she convinces your muse that she’s a health / fitness fanatic and is too poor (?) to afford retail gyms, so your muse takes pity on her and accompanies her inside for a few weeks, only to realise that all she does is stare very pointedly at a certain someone whilst half-heartedly flexing on the rowing machines … ( said super cute student athlete connection also wanted ! sign up for a free two week trial for your very own stalker )
