Wednesday, Star-crossed lovers :

- “Let’s see”, said Vex, running her fingers through Keyleth’s hair. “You’d be… the princess of a faraway kingdom, and I’d be a poor poacher who caught a glimpse of you during one of my hunts.”

Keyleth shifted a little, to nestle her body more snuggly against Vex’s, to rest her head more comfortably on Vex’s shoulder.

- “Is that all it would take ?” she asked. “Just a glimpse and then. Bam ! In love ?”

- “Yes, because your father has been cursed.  So that, hmm… his daughter would break his heart by refusing every proper suitors.”

- “That’s the curse ?”

- “Yes.”

- “It’s a pretty mild one.”

- “You’d think so, but kings really care about their bloodline.”

Keyleth giggled :

- “An architect would have just been like « yeah this sucks a bit, I guess ».”

- “But for a king it’s pretty much the end of the world. And your fictionnal dad is a dick.”

- “He’s all, « woe is me, my daughter wants things for herself ! »”

- “See ? What a dick.”

- “Woe !” cried Keyleth, and then she kissed Vex on the jaw. “Woe !” A kiss on the cheek. “Woe, I tell you !” A quick kiss on the lips.

They laughed, not so much because the King’s lament was funny, but because the moment was sweet, and laughing made it sweeter. Neither of them could have told how those little storytelling games had begun, but it had become a beloved ritual. It was nice, sometimes, to be someone else. Someone whose problems they would never have to face.

- “So you’re in love with me. How do I fall in love with you ?”

- “I start leaving you gifts on your balcony. Under the cover of the night…”

- “You sneak into the castle !”

- “Avoid the guards.”

- “Climb the vines adorning my tower !”

- “… and put down a few trinkets I made for you.”

Having heard his name, Trinket put his big muzzle on the mattress and there was another minute of shifting, so that they could both scratch him between the ears.

- “But of course, you’d want to know who’s leaving those offerings.”

- “So one night, I just pretend to be asleep, and catch you in the act.”

- “And after that, I do the same thing – sneak in the castle, avoid the guards, climb the tower - but instead we talk all night.”

- “That’s pretty nice.”

- “It is.”

- “I think I want to end the story there.”

- “Well, I was planning on being mortally wounded and dying in your arms while you swear to never love again, but… whatever you want, dear.”

They fell silent for a moment, lulled by the coziness of the bed, of the room, of their closeness.

- “Vex’ahlia ?”

- “Hmm ?”

- “Why am always the princess, or the queen, or the rich chieftain ?”

A pause. A light kiss on the top of Keyleth’s head :

- “I just think I can pull off the dashing rogue look better, I suppose.”

- “You can pull off any look better.”

- “I beg to differ, O Voice of the Tempest. Do you really not see how people look at you ?” It was Keyleth’s turn to hum :

- “And why are you always trying to end your stories in tragedy ?”

- “You know what, I’m not sure. I guess I just think they’ll never be as happy as we are, anyway.”

- “You’re right. Woe is them.”

- “Woe !”

- “Woe, I tell you !”

first entry for @vexlethweek ! It’s really great that someone decided to organize one :D

Unlikely beginnings :

Vex pressed her cheek against Trinket’s fur and very firmly decided she wouldn’t cry.  It had been stupid of her to lose her temper like that. She had been right, of course, but she’d had to ruin it all by becoming emotional, and that was the problem. It only made her seem unreasonable. She would bring up the subject of party funds again, but only after she’d calmed down and thoughts of how to best make her point come across. Right now, she just needed a bit of peace and quiet.

Of course, she’d barely finish that line of thoughts that she heard someone walk up to her. It wasn’t her brother (he’d never make that much noise, even if he wanted her to hear him coming) and it wasn’t Grog (who certainly wasn’t that discreet) but other than that, she had no idea who it might be. And – she told herself, facing the other way – didn’t care.

- “There you are !” said a voice, somehow managing to convey « resolute cheerfulness » and « nerve-wracking indecisivness » at the same time.

Keyleth, then.

- “It may be different where you’re from, darling” shot Vex, starring ahead, “but around here, when people suddendly leave in the middle of a screaming match, they generally want to be left alone.” - “Oh.”

She sounded entirely dejected, and Vex kicked herself mentally. But before she could find a way to apologize, or to convince herself no apology were needed, Keyleth went on :

- “I won’t stay long, then. It’s just, you left your meal untouched, so I thought I could bring you some stuff.”

She finally appeared in Vex line of sight and ploped on the ground with a curious mix of awkwardness and grace. Awkwardness and grace : yet again two thing that should have been contradictory, and both fitted Keyleth like two well-tailored gloves. But Vex wasn’t about to tell her that, so she rolled her eyes instead :

- “You don’t have to do it, you know.”

- “I know. I wanted to.”

- “No, I mean. You don’t have to pretend. That we’re friends.”

- “I thought we were”, replied Keyleth. She sounded, this time, a little defiant – and more than a little hurt. Fuck.

- “We travel together”, she added, like proving a point. - “Safety in numbers”, countered Vex, not knowing why she did.

- “And we fight together.”

- “Yes ? Safety. In. Numbers, darling.”

- “And you showed me how to skin that Cocatrix !”

Keyleth looked positively triumphant. Vex opened her mouth, closed it again and settled on :

- “That’s your proof ?”

- “Well, you didn’t have to !”

- “No, but you…”

Vex cut herself short. « But you asked me », she was going to say. But she certainly didn’t always do what people asked of her. And it had been, well perhaps not fun, but… Alright it had been fun. It had been nice.

- “It’s just that chatting over the mangled carcass of a monster seems an unlikely way to start a friendship”, she finally said.

- “I didn’t say it had been the begining”, observed Keyleth. She had finished arranging the food – on a little square of tissue, like a damn picknick. “And anyway, unlikely isn’t the same as bad.”

- “I suppose not, darling.” Said Vex, scooting to the side to let her snuggle up to Trinket. “I suppose not.”

results of the interest inquiry

This post was due quite a few weeks ago, but better late than never! Here’s a quick TL;DR for the results and for anyone who just wants to know the situation on the dates and prompts. This will be cross-posted to Twitter!

TL;DR: The week will take place, ideally, from Sunday, February 23rd, until Saturday, February 29th, with a total of seven days of prompts. 

The decision on prompts was split pretty evenly between if the mod(s) would decide the prompts or if we’d take submissions, so we’re going to do a combination of both: I’ll start a list of possible prompts I’ve been brainstorming, reblogged as I update it, and anyone with ideas can send them to the inbox or in dms here and on twitter.

nice to see so many writers into vexleth!!!! it’s also nice to see nobody said they wouldn’t lmao.

i asked, would you want to submit prompts? and you answered:

the answers to this are fairly split, and i’m not going to make a solid decision based on one answer tipping the scales a little, so we’re going to do a combo of these. i’ll make a post with prompts I’ve been thinking of, and whoever wants to suggest prompts or ideas can send them in! i’ll decide which days will get which prompts. the post will be edited and then reblogged with the most recent version to keep everyone up to date! the suggestions will be accepted through the inbox, or through dms on twitter or on here.

i asked, what would be the ideal date for this event for you personally? and you answered:

well,, in the interest of giving people time to create content ahead of the dates,,, I think we’re going to go with the middle to late weeks of February! Just perfect and on brand for Femslash February, in my opinion. The dates can always be skootched a little farther back if it might work best, but right now Sunday, February 23rd to Saturday, February 29th feels like it would give enough time. It won’t interfere with Valentine’s Day either.

Sorry for going radio-silent for a few weeks, school got hectic! But great news!!

In a few hours, I'll be posting the overall results of the survey (A sample size of 42! Holy fuck!) and then I'll announce what the plan for the event is. I can't wait to get this started.

thank you to everyone who's helped boost the interest post! once it reaches a sample size of ~40 ill start putting things into motion. my first order of business is to find a theme for this blog and finish setting up the twitter as well!
