i'm having... blog remaking thoughts
#( * ooc. )#now hear me out#i AM very sentimentally attached to this blog bc i have had it for so long#but it's such a jumbled mess because i have not remade jekyll's blog in the nine years i've had it#it is so old and so jumbled and i think it would be better to just reboot and keep this as an archive#same aesthetics and everything!! nothing fundamental would change just a Fresh Start

* 𝐇𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄.
she’s always wondered what her file must look like. never has rain gotten a good look, though, she’s always imagined it like something in the movies. sections that are entirely marked out, or redacted, or whatever. “well, i dunno. haven’t you got like.. an encyclopedia on me sitting there?” rain never knows what they’ve been told. what they haven’t. they find it’s usually easier to keep her out of things, until she has to be a part of them. “apparently my brain’s all fucked up. i’m like… i dunno. a victim of some bad shit.” she was never allowed to swear at the lab. it’s one of the few rules of theirs that she has enjoyed breaking. “what d’you want me to say?”
the very problem with this case was that henry did not have an encyclopedia on rain — or rather, the encyclopedia he did have contained more redactions than solid information. really, all it told him was that she had been rescued by a police raid from some kind of traumatic situation. what the situation was, how it had affected her, or even what she’d suffered was all neatly hidden behind line after line of black bars. it made any sort of analysis more than a little difficult, to say the least. after a moment of thought, he leaned forward in his seat and spun his pen around his thumb. “ well, let’s start with what’s been happening at school, hm? your aunt tells me you’ve been having a bit of trouble adjusting. ”
#hidefire#( * v: modern. )#i'm glad it works hlkdjsfdsf#the more he learns about rain the more he's gonna want to study her like a bug

also as much as it’s fucked up that henry keeps using his formula for this double life can we acknowledge how wild it is that he even took it initially. just looked at this colour-changing beaker of bubbling chemicals he haphazardly mixed together at two in the morning and went ‘yeah i’m gonna drink that.’
#( * ooc. )#again a lot of adaptations show him testing on animals first but in the book uh#he did not#just kinda chugged that shit raw with no hesitation

When I would come back from these excursions, I was often plunged into a kind of wonder at my vicarious depravity. This familiar that I called out of my own soul, and sent forth alone to do his good pleasure, was a being inherently malign and villainous; his every act and thought centred on self; drinking pleasure with bestial avidity from any degree of torture to another; relentless like a man of stone. Henry J*kyll stood at times aghast before the acts of Edw*rd Hyde; but the situation was apart from ordinary laws, and insidiously relaxed the grasp of conscience. It was Hyde, after all, and Hyde alone, that was guilty.
MY BROTHER IN CHRIST THAT’S YOU
#( * ooc. )#LIKE!!!!!#how the fuck do you go in literally two sentences from 'yeah i love to torture people' to 'lol but why should i feel bad'#henry will look back on what he did as hyde and go damn. that was pretty fucked up! anyway i'm gonna do it again tonight :)

no but like. the sheer level to which henry rationalises everything he does as hyde, despite openly acknowledging that he is harming people severely and repeatedly, is so fucking disturbing. especially given that he does this willingly and knowingly over years and years. so many adaptations try to make it out like henry either doesn’t know what he does as hyde or can’t control the transformations, and i can’t stress enough how much that isn’t the case in the book. he’s completely conscious of everything he does as hyde, he knows that he’s getting enjoyment out of hurting people, he actively and regularly seeks it out, and he just... doesn’t feel bad about it. at all.
#( * ooc. )#this is why it drives me insane when the story gets boiled down to 'j*kyll is the good side and hyde is the bad side'#he isn't good he's a fucking sick bastard who openly is like 'yeah i drink raw chemicals so i can go out and torture people'#'without consequences'#'and no i don't feel bad about it <3'#and it's terrifying how well he hides that this is who he is

* 𝐌𝐎𝐋𝐓𝐎𝐋𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐎.
it’s not as though enola hasn’t faced incredulous men before. she has two brothers, after all. still, she plants her fists on her hips, and sets her feet where they are. ❛ scotland yard? you seem to mishear me, i said i wanted to be a detective, not a buffoon in a silly hat, ❜ she shifts, then, arms crossed over her chest, and casts her gaze over him, from the top of his head, right down to his frankly ugly shoes. ❛ aren’t you meant to be a doctor? i thought that meant you’d be more intelligent than this. ❜
well, that was enough to get under his skin a little. a child with delusions of grandeur was easy enough to scoff at, but he was less inclined to laugh away blatant insults. squinting sharply down at enola, he folded his arms over his chest to mirror her own stance. “ permit me to give you a little advice. whatever profession you wish to have, young woman, you will do better in the world if you have a little respect. ”
#moltolavoro#( * v: canon. )#if u look up hypocrite in the dictionary u will find a photo of henry jekyll#get his ass enola

𝐐𝐔𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒. / @hidefire asked: ❛ you wouldn’t understand. ❜
standoffish. not the sort of patient that he particularly liked to deal with, but certainly not anything new. all things considered, it was more surprising when patients considered for these trials were not a little wary. the smile that he fixed on his face in reply, as he leaned back in his seat with a shrug, was as friendly and pleasant as he could make it. “ perhaps i wouldn’t. perhaps i would. either way, i can only help if you try to tell me. ”
#hidefire#( * v: modern. )#ok my thoughts for this are maybe arc two or arc five?#modern verse henry usually works for a pharma company so i'm thinking possibly she's considered for a new medication#after everything she went through and the struggles at school i figured the family / school might insist on her trying smth#but if that doesn't work let me know and we can plot smth else of course!!

𝐐𝐔𝐎𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒. / @moltolavoro asked: ❛ why are you laughing? this is a very serious situation. ❜ ( from enola (: )
dr. jekyll had not even made an attempt to hide his incredulous laughter when it first burst out of him, nor did he seem at all concerned by her comment on it. really, a girl her age, claiming to be some sort of detective — it was all so positively absurd, in his mind, that laughter could be the only response. “ oh, forgive me, miss. i am sure you are very clever, quite clever, but i rather think you would find yourself an odd addition to the ranks of scotland yard at your age. ”
#moltolavoro#( * v: canon. )#pov you're a condescending physician about to get your entire shit wrecked by a teenage girl
