Earl thought about it. What Ava wanted to do seemed perfectly just and perhaps noble. And a whole race or species suffering in such a way , especially at the hands s of the the church, needed saving. “Alright. I’ll help, it’s clearly something very important.” He began to wonder of agreeing so soon and so easily was a good idea. “What do we do first, then? What is the first course of action?” What could they do? How could they stop all of it? It clearly wasn’t going to be an easy task.
@himmeltheblue
Earl looked down at the strange concoction in the bowl. It certainly didn’t smell bad, but the ingredients were rather repugnant. His brain was conflicted, one half thought he should eat it to be polite and grateful, and Ava was so kind to make it for him, but also, the really quite unsavoury mixture of ingredients wasn’t something he wanted to put in his mouth. “...Thank you...” He had to at least be polite. He may as well try it, for all he knew it could have been delicious, or at least edible. He had a spoonful and was about to put it in his mouth when it became very clear the Pthumerian woman didn’t seem right. From what she had said, it was very likely she was upset due to her husband. Still, it couldn’t hurt to try asking her what she wanted to do. “Ava? Ava, you alright? Would you like to talk about it?”

Earl rolled his eyes and quickly got out his torch and immersed its end into the flames. He held it in front of the beast patient, getting closer and closer. The creature stepped away, holding its hands up towards the hunter defensively. He looked at Ethan. “Looks like you were right, well done. Now grab a torch and help me clear the way to Djura.” The beast still didn’t approach, very visibly afraid of the fire.
@ethanisamess
Ethan’s bizarre excitement and enthusiasm both confused and surprised Earl, even though he had known him for years. “I do not need protection. Focus on yourself.” He walked with Ethan at a good pace, crossing the bridge. Through some smoke and running up the bridge was a figure, one that was clearly not human. A beast patient, with its arms out in a threatening position was coming for them. There was some fire on its way, which it avoided in a way that seemed almost fearful.

It certainly was a lot to take in and to process it. He exhaled, thinking about it all for a few moments. “I knew the church was corrupt and probably as close to evil as it could get, but that is something I never knew they did.” The church was already incredibly shady and dodgy, secretive and sinister, but enslavement was something he had no idea about. “That... truly is awful. I can only try to express my deepest sympathy. I can assure you, however, that I am not affiliated with the church.” He said in a very honest and sincere tone. “So... what is it you wish to achieve? Rescuing? And what do you need me for?” He was curious, and willing to help the woman if needed.

He sniffed the mixture in his bowl again and put it down. He moved closer to her, look up at her. “What exactly did you witness? Clearly it was quite harrowing, whatever it was.” The Pthumerian woman had clearly been through a lot, quite possibly to hell and back. He felt sympathetic towards her, he may not have known the story, but this was blatantly a troubled woman with her great share of woes. His tone softened, sounding more kind and gentle.

“Perhaps you are right. He spotted us from afar as soon as we entered.” He looked around, not able to see anyone, where the hell was that man? “I do not like the idea of sparing beasts that are trying to kill us, however. But maybe it is all we can do. I definitely want to speak to Djura. So, speed and stealth it is.” He nodded, then looked to try and find the best route, and where Djura even was. “I think this way, over this bridge might be a good way to start.”
@ethanisamess
“The boy will likely make things worse for us. Djura will see us as all the same, I think. If he sees Lennon carelessly slaughtering everything, he’ll see us as being exactly the same. I want to talk to Djura, reason with him, but that young fool will make it difficult.” He sounded really quite irritated. He rubbed his eyes. “I think we should avoid the beasts for now, and try to take the quietest route. But if our lives are threatened, I won’t go out of my way to be peaceful.”

He didn’t respond to Ethan’s words, he simply looked at him for a few moments. The loud voice made him turn around sharply. “No doubt.” He responded rather quietly. Djura had warned them, and with being a retired hunter, he would surely resort to violence if he felt it need be, and chances are he would be very skilled. “We need to be quick, but careful. I say we try to kill the beasts out of his sight... wherever he is. Then we try to get to him and reason with him. Does that sound like a good plan to you?” Ethan may not have been wise or full of good ideas, but his opinion still mattered nonetheless, the two were a team.

Earl grumbled at the unpleasant wake up. Being up all night, he had very little sleep. Upon realising what had landed on his forehead, he wiped it off with a rag he found beside him. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. “Awfully early, isn’t it?” Ava would have surely understood the morning was something hunters saw very little of, she may not have been a hunter herself, but she definitely had the skills to be one. Earl got up and stretched, cracking his back as per usual. “Thank you for the place to stay, though.”
@himmeltheblue
“Really? That sounds lovely, I’d love to have tried it.” He patiently waited for the tea to brew, something he was more than used to, he drank a lot of tea. “So, if you’re not a hunter, what exactly are you doing here in Yharnam? You mentioned vaguely of what sounded like a good cause… but how did you come up here? What exactly is going on?” He then realised he was asking a lot of questions. “Sorry… I don’t mean to pry. I don’t usually ask so many questions. I’ve just never seen a Pthumerian before.”

“That does not make me wonderful.” He wished Ethan would stop with the affectionate names, even if it was just a friendly thing. He didn’t believe Alfred had the same feelings for Ethan, though he could have been wrong. He looked at Ethan. “Well, hunters aren’t welcome here, that’s for certain.” With that being said, he pushed the doors open. They were stiff, it was clear nobody had been there for quite some time. They were greeted by wooden structures on fire and older architecture. It was obvious it was abandoned.

He tutted. “Ethan, I have no qualms with your preferences. If man wishes to lie with man, so be it. But it is no matter, man or woman, hunters should not engage in such things.” He pulled his hand away from him, not responding to the younger man’s change of subject. He merely continued to travel. There was a sign on some doors, expressing nobody being welcome Old Yharnam, especially hunters. “Hmm...” He scratched his chin as he read the tattered paper nailed to the wooden doors.

He heard the crow’s caw, not sounding gurgled, monstrous, or beastly. It was clearly Ava’s companion, following him. The bird was very odd indeed, what with last time, he only had the feeling something bad would happen with it around, as if a bad omen. The hunter paid Blackwind no mind, and went about killing any nearby beasts, such as huntsmen small and large, rabid dogs, maneater boars, and more. He just wanted to kill what needed to be killed for the last couple of hours in the night. Eventually, as it started to get slightly lighter, he made his way back to Ava’s place, sitting in a chair and falling asleep.

Earl scoffed. “It matters not how others perceive you, especially in such trivial matters. It is for strength, which is very beneficial, especially with what we do.” He rubbed his forehead as Ethan fell down the stairs. He was unbelievably clumsy, how was he even still alive. Once he reached the bottom of the stairs, he held his hand out to help him up. “And I don’t think courting or any form of relationship is something hunters have the time for, nor do the ones being courted have the strength or heart to bear worrying if you’ll ever come home.” He carried on with the conversation as if the man didn’t fall, but really he was just so used to this behaviour that it didn’t surprise him anymore.

He watched her leave. Sleep tight? But it was still night! Though the night seemed long, morning always came, and Earl only slept at daytime. Being a hunter often lead to such a sleeping pattern. It was like being told to go to bed in the middle of the day! He couldn’t possibly. Ava seemed to be happy having a rest, so he thought it would be fine if he just went to kill any nearby beasts. He’d come back by the time the night was over, surely the Pthumerian woman wouldn’t mind! He got up, grabbed his weapons and slowly sneaked out, searching for anything that needed to be killed.

He wasn’t normally offered a place to sleep so willingly and openly, so he found it rather odd. But the woman seemed really quite upset, so things were probably fine. For him, at least. He watched her move to the corner. He sighed. “Ava... did you want to talk about it?” She May have not wanted to and would have preferred quiet, he would have understood that, he much preferred to keep things quiet, but he had to offer. He couldn’t just ignore someone so sad.
