"Ah, you're going to! Good, maybe we can go together."
He grins when Apollo mentions Vera's show, absolutely delighted that the both of them would be going to the show that night. When Apollo mentions the flowers, however, he looks at the little vase and shakes his head.
"No, these aren't for her - these, ah, these were for me."
He nudges the vase away from the edge of the table, so they won't fall when someone eventually thunders down the hall in some emergency, and shrugs.
"It's quite the day, if you'll remember. I've been busy all morning."
He fidgets with the gunmetal rings he wears, the little physical tic he's had for a very long time, and imagines running his fingers over the ridges of his keys and counting each one.
(He's gotten better in his compulsions, but still.)
"It doesn't matter - you're right in that I would prefer more glitter. And that I need to pick up some flowers before the show for Frau Misham. Come, come, we'll go get them together."
" Uh- sorry. But, Let's not stretch the truth about fans; that's you, not me." Disbanded or not, not all of them had jumped ship the moment the lead guitarist was declared guilty.
" It's an important day- Miss Misham is having her art displayed at a museum in the city. I wanted to celebrate her rising career and of course, congratulate her on her progress."He can only haphazardly hope that the card didn't look as flimsy as it felt in his hand. Eight dollars for a fairly specific card from a man who had almost no artistic talent; it had to be preserved.
Apollo's head tilts, getting a full view of the prosecutor tells him two things, and presents another question." It's kind of late to be delivering those to a client, unless you're getting more floral appreciation in your decor-?"

" Which, wouldn't surprise me- but I'd expect something with a bit more glitter for your tastes."

Apollo doesn't knock - and that makes Klavier jump like he's been zapped, shoulders jolting as he turns to look at his impromptu guest. There's a long pause before he speaks, with an expression briefly like a deer in the headlights before he schools his face into neutral coolness.
"Ah - hasn't anyone told you it's rude to barge in to someone's office without knocking?"
He goes for sing-song in his tone, which he mostly manages, and sets the vase down with its quiet little display. There was a card with his name on it tucked among them, carefully wedged to hide the message on it.
His eyes move from Apollo's tidier appearance to the card before settling on Apollo's face.
"You've dressed for an occasion." He dodges the question he was asked, for now at least. "And you've brought informal paperwork. Who are you delivering cards to? Admiring fans would love to know."
It'd been a while since that young woman had shown up in his office. That case was such a staggering time in his life, a nail in more than one coffin. It still felt like ages ago Vera was in his office, struggling to speak while nibbling those short cut nails. He'd been using this floor of the office for their copier for a greeting card he'd bought that was unfortunately torn; Instead of shelling out another three dollars with his limited amount of time, he simply made a photo-copy and redid his signature with dogged precision. He was still walking with the pen in hand when he passed the prosecutor's office door. Even if he wasn't a shy type, the door usually remained shut to encourage interested parties to ring the guitar doorbell. That was as much as Apollo assumed.
"... Everything alright, Klavier-?" Shouldering in, he clips the pen to the card. There's a few less wrinkles in his suit vest this afternoon, most notably.

There's an energy around Klavier's office today, like the aftermath of a procession - he'd been missing until past lunch time, and had come in with all the fanfare of someone trying to avoid all the security cameras lining the halls.
He'd had places to be, flowers to send and receive (judging by the flowers tucked under his arm), and was on the tail end of a phone call now.
"Ja, yes, of course I will be there. You will have the most beautiful showing, I'm sure - and I will do my best not to bring too much attention to you. Yes, Miss Misham, I'll make sure you remain the star on such an important evening. . .it's good to hear from you, Vera - I'm sure you've got plenty of things to deal with. Call me if you need anything at all."
He looks down when he clicks the phone off and brushes into his office. The door is left ajar as he tucks the flowers into an off-white vase that had been a gift from a couple of years ago.

🍾 Do you ever think you'll be wrongfully accused?
"I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. It seems to be a staple among my coworkers."
He sighs deeply, his shoulders drooping as he says it.
"I can only hope to have a good attorney to swoop in to my defense if or when it finally happens."
drunk klav questions.

🍾 What's your opinion on playing a guitar with your mouth on stage?
"Considering the calluses on my fingers, I think it's a very stupid idea."
He wiggles his fingers a bit over his drink, smiling as he does so, before he shrugs.
"To each their own, but I won't be doing that."
drunk klav questions.

🍾 + ' ... let's get this sorted out once and for all. are you a pop star or a rock star. ... ... hey, kid. focus. '
He should really stop spending time with his coworkers like this. He sighs a bit, chin resting on the edge of a mostly empty cup as he's grilled with questions. The latest one is the one that makes him laugh.
"I am the rockstar prosecutor, my dear friend. Just because it might not sound the same as the rock-and-roll you are used to at your age, doesn't mean it's not."
He swirls the drink and looks into it for a moment, debating if he should get another.
"Has that really been eating at you so much?"
drunk klav questions.

"I appreciate someone who doesn't compromise on finding the truth of a crime. You've got my respect in that, I promise you."
He leans back in his seat and watches Lang play a private game between him and the nearby wastebasket. Klavier nurses his drink and draws shapes in the water on the side of the glass.
He's heard stories about the wolf of Zheng Fa, mostly through starry-eyed retellings from Daryan when they had been draped across the couch in Klavier's apartment and reviewing mock cases before they had graduated.
Funny, how time has put him beside one of Daryan's starstruck idols.
The nudge away from the main part of work makes him hum, his brows arched in amusement as Lang seems to ask about his music in an accusatory manner.
"Ah, I record on the side, but I have retired from the stage. I had quite the fiery send off to my last show. The Gavinners did not survive long without our beloved guitarist in the lead."
He shrugs, trying to seem unbothered.
"Will you forgive a man for the occasional Christmas album?"
"Oh, pretty-boy made it seem like I was on the straight and narrow? I'm the wolf sniffing around on scene, and that means I'm not one to compromise. The evidence better stick like white on rice." While he's making a toss for the trash can, he's eying a host, making the basket right after she passes . Orange rind in, set, match, game. No need for anyone to applaud- he's made a score with no competition, though seeming pleased with himself regardless. Briefly his fists clench as he celebrates his victory. " Recently I was called on scene for a murder that happened in one of the quieter neighborhoods. One of those where people keep pointin' fingers at the new people that just moved in. It only gets better from there- but I did confirm there were no parrots involved." That infamous case had reached his ears all the way in Zheng Fa.
"But... we're not limited to work talk. I assume you heard from Miles about me. Suprising he brought up INTERPOL in the first place. You still make music while you're accusing people in court?" Snide. Every prosecutor still deserved a little bit of prejudice until they proved their worth.

The halls of the office are lonely, Klavier thinks, with a lack of holiday decorations. It's between the seasons now, so it would be a month or so still before they had begun to decorate the space with colors other than austere gray and brick red. He's almost disappointed he doesn't run into either Payne or even Officer Meekins on his way in, making his way up the stairs without any of the usual Gavin's back! fanfare.
He supposes that the surprise of seeing him wears off after he has come and gone four or five times in the last few years. Who could blame him for wanting a bit of red carpet flair even now?
He's setting his own office to rights when Edgeworth finally makes an appearance, and Klavier greets him with a warm smile over the edge of a cup of coffee from the machine down the hall. The displays on his wall are open, where he's taken down one of the old acoustic guitars to realign the strings on it.
"Ah, Herr Edgeworth - I should have expected you bright and early. Don't worry about a delay. I asked you to meet yesterday, and then had to leave the office all day, so you didn't miss me by much."
He sets the cup down on the enormous speaker that doubled as a table, and leans on the edge of it at the same time.
"I just wanted to let you know I would be back in town for an extended period of time, so you can pass cases to me, ja? No need to keep them all to yourself if you've been swamped."
Nevermind his own workload - the prosecutor's office was known for hiring workaholics.
To be honest, Edgeworth has been meaning to talk to Klavier for quite a while, now. Despite his flashiness and fame as a rockstar as well as a prosecutor, he's always been very capable in court - something of a genius, even, even if not all of his coworkers would necessarily agree.
That's not why Edgeworth wanted to talk to him, though. Truth be told, he's been... how to put it bluntly, worried about the younger man. It's difficult to tell if Edgeworth is imagining it or if there's really something there, but while Klavier hides it well, he's been through a lot as of late, and sometimes Edgeworth gets the impression of something hiding behind that confident smile of his... something that makes Edgeworth's gut twist to think about.
As Chief Prosecutor, he feels somewhat responsible for his prosecutors in the Prosecutor's Office - and he doesn't want Klavier to go through any suffering he might be experiencing alone, either. The problem is... well, it lies with Edgeworth himself. Despite how far he's come in the past eight or so years of his life, when it comes to emotional matters - those of the heart, so to speak - he often really doesn't know how to be of any use.
It's not a fact he's happy about... but now that Klavier has asked to see him, Edgeworth is determined to try and do something to overcome his weakness a little. At least he doesn't think he'll make things worse... right?

"You wanted to see me?" Edgeworth asks first, straight to the point as always. "I apologize for the delay... it's been rather busy lately, as I'm sure you can imagine."
