"oh, yes, very mature." there's a round of chortles behind her, surely coming from aemond or daeron or both, but they quickly quiet down at the look she casts over her shoulder. they too had pets of their own and she'd just made it clear that she wouldn't tolerate an untrained one in their home. sunfyre was a delightful bird on most days, but he could be as disobedient and heedless as his owner when he wanted to be. "until he learns how to be disciplined — and until you apologize for your sister's ruined dried insect collection on his behalf — he is staying inside his cage in the backyard." she huffs, fixing aegon with a stern stare, brows raised and hands on her hips. "you can stay outside as well if you'd like to raise that finger again."

she does feel bad about the hierarchy she's knowingly, intentionally placed her children in. it was the same thing her father did to her and her siblings and a part of alicent has always felt remorseful, even though she herself was not at fault. the look of frustration on aurane's face was so similar to quiet disappointment on gwayne's; it softens her resolve, however slightly. "you know how important aegon is now. he needs all of us — needs to know that we'll be there, standing beside him, when he wants to turn to us."

if she were a different kind of mother, she would cross over to aurane and hold him for a moment, an attempt to reassure that he was loved despite her negligence. but that wasn't ingrained in alicent's motherhood and the gesture might just anger her son further.

"it is a crucial time for us to be united. i'm certain your brother would appreciate having you there." alicent tries to catch his eye, head tilting in his direction as she takes two steps forward. her poor aurane. how it must haunt him to know the attention she gives to aegon would be his if he'd only been born a few minutes earlier. "but the day is ending, and the council will not be held until an hour past our first meal." a beat passes, then she asks, "what was it that you needed me for?"

aurane's jaw clenches with his mother's bluntness, but he truly expected nothing less. she was not one to lie to her children, underneath any circumstances. " YES, of course. the king's needs must be met before my own. " there is no mocking in his voice -- there is, in fact, a lack of emotion. perhaps aurane has learned from the best. " if we are speaking honestly, MOTHER --, " the younger of the twins takes a sip of his wine, mouth souring. " it feels as though you have been doing much to IGNORE me. or anyone other than aegon. but. . . " gods, was speaking his mind to his mother this DIFFICULT ? he and aegon share much in common, and one of those was always their love and attentiveness of alicent ; he feared disappointing her more than most things in life.

it is a FATAL FLAW, perhaps, because aurane cannot hold her eye contact for long ; he must look away, must defer to her wants. he feels his stomach twist. " . . . if aegon has need of me, i shall be at council tomorrow. though i believe i will have little to offer. " and this was the truth. aurane knows little of warfare, of best tactics. he knew what he was taught in his lessons, but those memories had long since been replaced with drink, with brothels and women. he had a feeling, however, that alicent was not needing this of him. she wanted him to SUPPORT AEGON ; to be his continued and consistent SHADOW -- and aurane was very gifted at that.

"as you have, yes? three strong boys as of the past week and no complications or losses in between. that is much more than the gods blessed your poor mother with." and though unintentional, the words left unspoken may be about how the gods blessed her marriage with viserys with sons instead.
