Urban & Graffiti Arts
Tumblr media
Urban Art looks and feels like graffiti right?
Tumblr media
Graffiti looks like Urban Art.
So what are the key differences?
Urban Art has more of an image based design while Graffiti has more of a word based design.
Graffiti also can be used for recognition or attention to an artist or gang, while Urban Art is just an organized abstract expression of art.
Here are some examples:

Now while Urban Art and Graffiti may have their differences, they are still both considered street art. But- it is important to now your differences.

Week 7
Hip Hop Movement
Your own body has movement in music. Whether you know it or not- your body is always moving and creating a rhythm.
Your heart beating in a certain pattern-
Tumblr media
Your leg/foot tapping to pass time-
Tumblr media
You cracking your knuckles-
Tumblr media
Even kissing your teeth-
Tumblr media
All of these moments create a sound and whether you know it or not, that hip hop.
Hip hop is not just the modern music we hear today, it's more of a culture. Being able to hear all of the sounds a body could make and turning it into a "chant" or a "song" is of an ancient African time. Tribes would often use their bodies to create sound or music as a culture or tradition. Before there were drums and auto percussions, there were slaps, taps, and mouths.
hm... mouths? like beatboxing?
YES! Just like that. That ti-ti-ti-tat-ti-ti-ti-ti-tat is beatboxing.
Or in other words ancient hip hop with the movement of your mouth (& body).

MCing
Tumblr media
*Drops the Mic*
What is MCing?
Yeah. It's a way of spreading encouraging messages in a rhythmic flow using emphasis on certain words, rhyming organically and not to a specific pattern, and knowledge beyond reach for effective vocabulary.
MCing is such an art that some have even went as far as learning the entire dictionary to gain knowledge and leverage on their rhymes.

What is Go-Go Music?
youtube
That ..^.. is Go-Go.
This type of music, like said in the video, has a funkadelic sound mixed with Latin drums.
Go-Go bands bring out the soul of the person and uses elements such as call and response, role call, syncopated polyrhythms, and a vast use of percussion instruments.
Tumblr media
Go-Go Music's home is the capital of the United States (Washington D.C.) and it is a beautiful sound. Especially in-person.

Week 3
The Origin of Hip-Hop
Tumblr media
Soo... hip hop. It had a huge impact on the African American culture and has transcended all over the world.
But- where did this vibrant tapestry come from?
Africa. Yes. It started in Africa and came about through the tribal chants and rhythmic storytelling in their everyday life. The slave trade ultimately carried the different cultures to the U.S. giving the Bronx, NY a new, emerging sound. A blend of the African, Jamaican, and Afro culture = Hip Hop.
BOOM!
DJs, Scratching, Mixing, Masking, MCs, and many more talents came about. So the next time someone asks you how hip hop came along and changed the world, tell them where it began. The Motherland.

Usually in 𝓗𝓲𝓹-𝓗𝓸𝓹 and 𝓡𝓷𝓑, they say the best die young. Iv’e always believed in that 𝔭𝔥𝔢𝔫𝔬𝔪𝔢𝔫𝔬𝔫 because so many of my favorite authentic artists have passed.

The industry seems to forget these artist who lost their lives generally changed the game. Now, there are rappers who don’t speak full words- but ᧁⅈ᥇᥇ꫀ𝕣ⅈડꫝ.. and artist who only sing about 𝕊𝕖𝕩.
