ENG-T Tokyo Ghoul: Jail (Ch.1 Pt. 1)
Here’s the first rough translation log for Tokyo Ghoul: Jail, a Japanese exclusive. If you want to know more about the plot of the game and the characters before starting, check out the Tokyo Ghoul wiki. I’ll also make a masterpost to put this in order. Since I’m using Google Translate for this and barely know a lick of Japanese, expect many errors. Google Translate can’t translate all slang or emotional phrases and sounds. If you’re reading along, feel free to send me asks with corrections or additions. First you’ll be met with the title screen. The options in order are: New Game Continue Gallery: This is where you can see CGs, listen to the soundtrack (music), watch videos, and see your battle record. Settings: Change text speed, sound volumes (including for each character’s voice), and some button mappings. You can also choose whether you want to use the rear touch pad here. ------------------------ If you’re starting a new game (which I’m assuming you are if you’re starting at Chapter 1), choose the first option. Any time Rio is narrating, it will be italicized. If he’s speaking, it will be in normal text. Multiple lines from a character in succession will be written as one piece of dialogue. [I’m starting this blog after I had already finished the first scene, so here’s a quick summary: You wake up in a room with no memory, but you’re worn out. A big burly man is standing in the doorway. He tells you you’re imprisoned and mentions the name Jail, while also telling you his name is Shiki Kijima ( ć‚ć‚øćƒž 式 ), a ghoul investigator. You then remember that your own name is Rio ( 凛央 ), and that you were at home when suddenly you were kidnapped and brought to this place. The scene ends bleakly with Kijima saying something along the lines of ā€œPain unlocks memories. Let’s have some fun.ā€] Now we’re in the next room in Cochlea prison outside of the cell, and we can see other cells. ----------------------------------- I was hurt many times, but I still couldn’t spit out the answer Kijima wanted. He asked me about the name ā€œJailā€, and it was repeated many times. But no matter how much I was asked, I didn’t know the name. Kijima: Hmm, can’t you remember this far? Rio: ... Kijima: If it wasn’t acting, it would be troublesome. No matter how much ownership I have, it’s a rule that you shouldn’t dispose of Cochlea’s food without the permission of the prison chief. Is it okay to kill him if he’s on the escape? Such ā€œaccidentsā€ are common. Here, look at this figure. Do you know? I’m enthusiastic about my work. Rio: ... Kijima: I just want to know. Who is ā€œJailā€. Rio: Don’t....know... Kijima: Many investigators were buried by him. He’s a vicious eater. We call him ā€œJailā€ because his eyes look like bars when he’s in action. I also had a conversation (confrontation?) with him in the past. I lost my ears, extensive skin, right leg, and subordinates. I’ve been investigating ever since, relying on the pain and memory of that time. And now I’m convinced: you’re the ā€œJailā€ that did that to me that day. Rio: I don’t know...I’m just a ghoul....why do you suspect that I’m that ghoul ā€œJailā€...!! Kijima: Why?....Then let’s ask one more question. Is your brother ā€œJailā€? ...!! --Brother. This guy, how does he know I have an older brother? Rio: What happened to my brother... Kijima: [laughter] ...I’m scared...does it come out at this level? (Do you remember now?) Your brother is waiting in the VIP room of this facility. In this facility? Was my brother also captured by Kijima? Kijima: Let’s ask again. Was your brother called ā€œJailā€. A brute that killed a large number of investigators. Was he a murderer? Rio: My brother...my brother isn’t the type of person who would do that! Kijima: Your older brother called himself ā€œJailā€. Rio: ...!! Kijima: So we’ll release you. Rio, you’re protecting yourself, right? At that moment, a big back and a strong and gentle look came to me. He always protected me. Kijima: However, no matter how many discussions we have, he won’t tell me the truth. He only says ā€œRelease my brother.ā€ [Since he wasn’t listening to me], he didn’t need to hear anymore. Because... Rio: ...!! This smell... Rio: Blood....? Kijima: I don’t think you need such ears. Rio: ...!!! A fluffy feel that is transmitted through the paper. Two ā€œlumpsā€. Rio: Uaaa....ahhh!! Kijima: Please rest assured, I haven’t killed him. Rio: Why...why is this...!! Kijima: Did you say that? I just want to know. Who is ā€œJailā€? Brother...brother...brother...brother...! Kijima: What’s next to your ears? How about your eyelids? I’m sure you’ll have the best night. Rio: Stop...stop it!! Please! Kijima: [kukuku] If you’re Jail, you should be honest, before that paper bag is full of ā€œbrothers.ā€ Rio: Uaaaa... Investigator: Special Associate Kijima. It’s about time. Kijima: Oh, it’s already time. It’s too early for the fun time to pass. Then I’m looking forward to it, Rio. ā€œJailā€. Killer of investigators. ...Not my brother. My brother wouldn’t do that. I’m the same. I couldn’t do that myself. I’m a powerless ghoul. Rio: (What can I do...) [End scene] Notes for this scene: I wasn’t sure if it was Rio’s ears that were cut off, or his brothers.
