Me and about 12 year old me! I used to have glasses around that time (I lost them on a trip when I was about 16 and haven't replaced them since 😅) and I've chopped my hair since then. And I'm now perhaps a little more tired and world-weary than that bright-eyed little girl, but even though I can't go back to that pure childhood innocence, I think now, as C.S. Lewis said, I'm "old enough to start reading fairy tales again," and keep on appreciating the simple joys of life. 😌❤️

Death By Meat Grinder

They were in their kitchen, making homemade sausage for a family reunion. They gently picked up a slab of meat and gingerly placed it in the grinder. They were fascinated by the simplicity of the machine. In goes a meat slab, and out comes ground beef. They began dropping various objects into the grinder, as you do. Old flowers? Kitchen sponge? Half of an onion? Straight into the grinder.

“Mommy?”

A small child appeared in the kitchen, right as they were about to put the family bird into the grinder.

“I-Is that Mr. Wiggles?”

They were startled, and let go of the bird.

“Oh no dear, that wasn’t Mr. Wiggles. That was his friend, Mrs. Wiggles.”

“But we don’t have a Mrs. Wiggles…”

“Oh dear, why don’t you come here and give mommy a hug?”

“Okay! What’s that thingy on the counter?”

“Why don’t you come look, sweetheart?”

And with that, they swiftly sweeped their son into their arms and put his face a bit too close to the grinder.

“M-Mommy? I don’t have to be this close to it…”

“What do you mean, hun? Is this not good enough for you? Nothing is ever good enough for you. You whine and complain about everything I do for you. Why are you like this?” The child was sobbing at this point. “I have tried my hardest everyday, every week, every month to support you. Care for you. Make you feel loved. But nothing is EVER good enough!”

“M-mommy what are you do-”

There was a hard shove. A scream. A ‘wrrnNNGGG’. Sobs. Blood.

“W-w-what have I done??”

They were holding their lifeless son in their arms. What remained of his face. The clumps of hair and flesh on the counter. On the wall. On the floor. On their clothes. On his clothes. Everywhere.

“Darling are the sausages almost re- OH. MY. GOD. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??? I’M CALLING 911.”

“W-wait! I CAN EXPLAIN! PLEASE GIVE ME A CHANCE! PLEASE!”

And as soon as they knew it, there were sirens and flashing lights.
