Apothecary work was his primary drive. To help people was what kept him travelling from town to city & back again, but not even he could resist a little R & R after a while ( doctor’s orders! ). Thus, he stands with his feet buried snug into the shimmering banks of Goldshore, the tide sweeping along his ankles. This stance is held for quite a while, hands on his hips, as he thinks. Maybe its a review, a look at the happenstance of this town prior to his intervention.

Not that it really mattered. At least, not now. Not with the beauty of the horizon, or the vast sea ahead of him. Not when he could be out swimming! 

He’s careful in removing Zeph’s satchel, putting it just far enough out of the tides way. Gods forbid it gets swept out to sea, gods forbid it sullies -- both for Zeph’s & the tincture’s inside sakes. His jacket, on the other hand -- merely haphazardly thrown onto the land. Once he’s sure it’s safe, he turns to his friend -- asking a question he was quite sure he already new the answer to. 

Not that it ever hurt to try!

The traverse from region to region could be brutal . Feet were sore , & although there was no lack of beasts to keep them entertained , it meant that each journey they undertook felt that much longer . Yet , Alfyn found this part fun . Not that anything would beat actual apothecary work , but it gave him a time to think , to put the books he’s read and the diagrams he has memorized to use . 

It was just natural preference to stick himself at the back of the line up , allowing him to slow down and speed up -- look things over curiously at his own pace , without creating a hold up in the party . For times exactly just like this , stopping & kneeling down to inspect the flowers that he found , eyes squinting as he really tried to remember where he’s seen them before . It was dangerous work , being an apothecary . A plant can be just as potent as a poison as it is a medicine .

There was no need to call out , he wasn’t going to hold up a line like this when they were so close to another town . He could only just imagine how tired everybody felt . Thus , he was quick to pick as many as he could before his partners escaped his eye . So quick , however , that he was sloppy in stuffing them in his satchel & running back . ( There wasn’t enough to share with everyone , a small transgression that frustrated Alfyn -- simply wanting to please all of his friends . ) His footfalls only slow once they have somebody to match with , of which he then begins to slow down even more , trotting just comfortably behind the warrior . Egad , that was actually more tiring then he thought ! 

“ Look what I found ! ”

His breath was still heavy , each word equal parts exhaustion & excitement . A second more passes , & he had almost completely forgotten to open his bag to show off the find . He reaches in , digs around a little -- hand meets only glass jars & no , no -- AH - HA ! 

“ There it is ! ” 

Alfyn pulls the flower out of his bag , & extends his arm out to offer it to Olberic . He could spare the associated lecture until after it was taken .

“ You can take this . ”

so alfyn’s last stand is my favorite ability but now i use it almost exclusively for everything so like . my alfyn hasnt been fully healed in so long just so that i can keep getting phat last stand damage and ngl it is probably Not Hale and Hearty(tm) for him like.... hey alfyn u sure you dont want a healing grape? maybe you can perform a little first aid? and alfyns just vehemently denying the entire thing like no !! its just a flesh wound !! im all good shucks dont even worry. 

meanwhile. olberic of all people gets a paper cut. and he concocts a custom made healing spray.

He certainly should have handled the prior battle better. An awkward blow from one of those gods damned revenants had left him with an aching shoulder.

Yet, he was reluctant to allow Alfyn to check it over. But he knows better than to argue with an apothecary, so he - almost begrudgingly - lets him inspect said shoulder.

“ ‘Tis fine, Alfyn. Truly. ”

A worrywart by nature , it was second nature for the apothecary to pry into every little injury that his party faced -- an aching could be adverse , a cut could breed infection , something he’d never know without proper care to check ! It was nothing unusual for the apothecary to stand a little more on edge whenever anyone in his vicinity mentioned pain , & when a man is the target of most blows from enemies they face , how could one not keep an eye slightly more watchful , more cautious ?  

“ I think I’ll be able to judge that -- shouldn’t take too long ! ”

It’s a promise proposed moreso for the warrior , to ease the presumed reluctance he had . He holds his arm out , using his finger to gently point towards Olberic’s shoulder , a silent question of the consent he needs to begin checking it over .

“ -- If I can ? ”

The conversation passed could prove tedious to others . To extract such information from citizens , strangers -- it took a lot of trust , & trust took a lot of time . Thus , it wasn’t unusual for an inquiry from Alfyn to span up to half an hour of sheer talking -- subtle questions thrown in here & there . Sometimes , it could span even longer , especially with those of shrewder backgrounds . Maybe the lack of forcefulness in his approach was what took him so long , maybe he enjoyed the companionship that came along with inquisition . Either way , after leaving each person , Alfyn brimmed with the certain sense of accomplishment & gratification that came by association . 

This time was , well , certainly no different . After nearly an hour of speaking to the person , even Alfyn felt a little tired by the circumstance . With a simple ‘ nice chattin’ with ya ! ’ , he rushes back to Cyrus with a grin across his face . Thumbs hook into his pants , and with one precautionary glance behind him , he huffs out a small phew ! Could it be satisfaction , exhaustion , or perhaps both ? The latter proved obvious as information was relayed . “ Not the most well-liked , I don’t think -- he’s another moneylender . You can only imagine the sorta reputation he’d have !! ” There’s a small pause as he talks , as if trying to piece together any more that he gleaned , & yet all that comes next is pure opinion piece , anecdotes.

“ Sure seemed nice though , I liked ‘im ! Definitely not the worst moneylender I’ve ever met . ”
