Words can't describe how much I love Mizuki Akiyama. She is incredible trans representation. Probably the only character I've seen that actually sums up the transfem experience without being treated as a joke or a fetish. As a trans woman myself, she makes me feel seen, and I have to give the creators of Project Sekai all the credit in the world for making such a nuanced and interesting character.

I've been in Mizuki's shoes so many times. This feeling of loving your female friends and being so happy around them but always feeling this disconnect. This knowledge that if you tell them the truth, that everything could change. And you know in your heart that it probably wouldn't, that your friends love you no matter what, but the fear never leaves you.

So you keep quiet. You bottle up your feelings. You hope and pray they never find out, so you can keep being one of them, "one of the girls". So you can keep living this life that you've fought so hard to obtain.

And don't even get me started on her thing with Ena. An arguably romantic relationship between a trans girl and a cis girl? And it isn't treated as some kind of joke? That's insane.

I'm not a trans lesbian (I'm bisexual for the record) but I understand Mizuki's feeling there too. Feeling like a creep for even daring to express yourself to someone you love. This need to always mask your true feelings so you don't get hurt. Always ALWAYS feeling gross, different, unworthy.

And yet, Mizuki dares to exist. She wears the ribbon. She loves cute things, fashion, and her friends. No matter what anyone says, she is Mizuki. She is a girl.

She is so strong and brave it inspires me to live. I am a girl too, and I also love cute things, fashion, and my friends. I dare to exist. I won't give up.

I honestly don't know any trans women who like Project Sekai and Mizuki, which I think is a shame. I'm sure they're out there, but she deserves more love among the trans community. ALL HAIL MIZUKI!! ICON, IDOL, AND PRINCESS!!!
