This year, I really wanted to draw something inspired by one of my favorite Elucien fics ever written — playgirl by @damedechance 🫦 I wanted to dedicate this to the wonderful, talented Marissa with a huge sloppy thank you for writing an absolute masterpiece and THE sexiest Elucien AU you'll ever read.

@norabraveseeker and I came across a pin that SJM had saved that must have reminded her of Elain and Lucien. It’s called Masked Stranger and the Rose Maiden by Kippery on deviantart. We wanted to create our own version and we are so excited to have amarnouille work on this for us. Amarna did such a wonderful job creating our vision and was such a gem to work with. I ask myself often—what has drawn me so fiercely to Elain and Lucien? Is it the tropes associated with them? Is it the tension, angst and yearning that exists between them? Is it the potential of their story and the many, many paths it could possibly explore? The answer, while being all of the above no doubt, is the formidable nature of their bond, but also what their relationship means to the narrative; Sunlight, power, loss and reconciliation, travel, acceptance, choice and agency. The nuance of a mating bond existing between two characters that have both experienced deep senses of lost love finding one another amid the despair is so incredibly riveting.

The Seer and the male that can See through magic. The Lord of Foxes and the Lovely Fawn. Sun and Earth. The Lovers. The Travelers. The socialites that can charm any room. The compatibility between Elain and Lucien is so rare as it is exciting—the beauty of their connection being so deep, so profound, that the author herself removed a previous pairing to create two incredible couples. Their book is going to be so hauntingly beautiful.

One of SJM’s old Pinterest board posts had artwork of a lady with a rose tattoo on her back. Of course this made us think of Elain. How maybe Elain would have a rose shaped bargain tattoo with her mate in future books.

DMONYART did an absolutely INCREDIBLE job! Elain looks positively gorgeous! We love her cute little smile and blush 🩷. Lucien looks insanely handsome. We love how he’s tracing Elain’s tattoo with such love and reverence.
