                       STEPS WERE TAKEN IN ORDER TO BLOCK HER PATH,  desperate to carry some of the burden placed upon lithe shoulders.   ❛  if i can’t have children with you i won’t have children at all.  ❜   although, in hindsight, that might’ve just placed even more weight upon her, which was not his intension; goal had been to reassure her, the growing number of concubines nothing but a formality.��

                       PURE LOVE STARED BACK AT HIM,  heart almost shattering at the thought of not being able to fulfill her duties as wife. at the very least, she’d stay by his side as his soulmate until the very end.  ❛  we’re still young. and, i have plenty of offerings i can leave at the temple.  ❜  that was, if this truly was the gods testing them and their resolution ( it sure wasn’t easy, timing a crucial matter amidst fleeting schedules ). hand linked itself with his, reassurance pressed with the gentlest of touch.  ❛  do not worry. hm?  ❜  gaze demanded his, brows lifting while awaiting his conclusion.

                       NOT ONE TO RECIEVE FLOWERS,  the gesture would’ve made cheeks flush with color if able. although usually cursed with frigid exterior it was nothing but warmth and wonderment that greeted her. distance between them vanished as he leaned closer, a kiss placed at the corner of painted lips as thanks.   ❛  they’re almost as beautiful as you.  ❜   to witness him now was to witness the duality of death; one moment calm and peaceful, cruel and merciless the next. 

                      IT WAS THE LEAST SHE COULD DO,  tails metaphorically swaying with pride while she beamed for him. the added kiss was just the cherry on top, in her eyes.  ❛  i’m glad you like them. see — we’re just like those couples on morning tv.  ❜  okay, perhaps not exactly like them. fiery locks were tucked away behind ear, excitement still bubbling within.  ❛  do you, uh... do you have some free time?  ❜  gods, HOW did mortals make this look so easy in dramas..?

                        THE WARMTH OF HER HAND  was missed the moment she let go, causing him to rest his own comfortably behind his back instead; head was held high until she spoke of such personal matters, surely these things were better to discuss in private? he seemed to think so, the look given clearly revealing as much.   ❛  ferti— really? and what if the fault lies with me?  ❜   maybe they should take it as a sign, a sign that the gods thought it best they not reproduce; not that she wouldn’t make a wonderful mother, it was his own paternal instincts that he doubted.

                       SUPPOSE THAT WAS ANOTHER DRASTIC CHANGE;  to no longer feel comfortable in her own home, private matters better discussed in the buzzing public than in the confines of their crowded mansion. at least here, they wouldn’t be walked in on by nosy servants or ill-willed concubines.  ❛  i highly doubt that. the physician also pointed out that the fault usually lies with the woman.  ❜  and thank gods for that, because that meant that the burden was hers to bear, giving her ample opportunity to work on a solution while doryeong went to war. she just wanted to start prepping their abode for future children — but first, she had to make sure they could even bring them them to life ( and hopefully before he ended up having children with the concubines instead ).

                        THE WEIGHT OF HER CONFESSION  stole his breath away, the happiness she provided the only thing needed to keep him alive. lips connected in hopes to convey what words never could, his feelings for her transcending human comprehension.   ❛  i love you in ways you cannot imagine. no one has ever cared for me the way you do and i cannot until the day i get to call you my wife.  ❜   his future was carved in stone and his path clear, for a life without her would be no life at all. 

                    SHE BELIEVED EVERY WORD, her heart swelling with reciprocation; the day she’d take his hand in marriage was every light needed to continue their habitual suffering, such promise fuel to weary bones and souls alike. warm smile blossomed for him, eyes filled to the brim with devotion, as was her final words:  ❛  let’s go to bed.  ❜  heated whisper, the need to hold him close triumphing that of lounging in temperate water.

                      ❛  YOU HAVE NEVER  been weak in my eyes.  ❜   the final words spoken before he drowned himself in her affection, her sweet kisses mixed with pain was all too fitting for a wildfire such as herself. to contain her was a pointless endeavor, his choice to fuel the flame their inevitable downfall. their kisses deepened as he grew hungrier, the aftermath of their misery awakening a different beast within, a beast that craved the warmth of her embrace and the sting of teeth and nails. hands grabbed a hold of her rear as he hoisted her up, carrying her off to the alter known as their bed. 

                          THEY WERE ALL IMPULSE AND IMPURITY,  wounds patched up with bruises of desire and messy tongues. hunger impelled her to gorge on his affection, this devil of pure black capable of sating every little need that burned like a hell’s gate. such is why hand anchored itself along the column of his neck, nails pressing against bulging veins as if daring him to drown her right there and then. his weight already kept her at bay in soften sheets, a much welcomed fortitude lest she unleash every single emotion driving her to temptation. the itch was there, both old and new cowering at his mercy. all he had to do was enter into the fields of flames, bringing ephemeral pleasure to centuries of pain.

                            HER FORMAL ETIQUETTE  always caught him off guard, making him feel extremely awkward.  not that he could blame her, seeing as judgmental eyes were always upon them.  still, traces of a frown could be detected, the look given slightly dejected.   ❛  sunhye — you know you don’t have to bow like that…  ❜   she bore a resemblance to a songbird trapped in a gilded cage, making him the only key to her freedom.   ❛  but yes, i would love to.  ❜

                        PERHAPS SHE HAD CHANGED FOR  the more formal, or perhaps she simply wanted to exert herself as the lady of the house; either way, it was a gesture that had come to stay.  ❛  come, then.  ❜  fingertips grabbed gentle hold of his, tugging him along until they had to walk side by side in public.  ❛  i talked with the physician yesterday. he wanted me to try some new herbs to promote fertility.  ❜  hands remained folded beneath silken sleeves, pouch of coins carefully hidden with purpose at her waist.

                        BODY REFUSED TO COOPORATE,  his muscles still tense from trying to contain the wildfire that was his heart. had it not been for the fact that this was her bed he’d collapsed from exhaustion long ago.   the rough day at work, forgetting to eat, not to mention the perpetual shots of adrenaline, was beginning to take its toll; he should really take better care of his health.   ❛  no thank you, i get enough of those at work.  ❜   features turned soft, almost dreamy, while laying there gazing at her. deep and steady breaths were taken, hopeful that they would soon calm him. though, for each moment that passed, an ache began to grow, a deep yearning if you will. it filled the entirety of his chest, making it difficult to breathe all over again.   ❛  i’m too scared to close my eyes… what if you’re gone when i wake up.  ❜   heartfelt honesty delivered through hushed tones, his cheeks quick to expose his embarrassment. 

                          THE CONFESSION PROMPTED LIPS  to curl with sympathy, hand reaching out to adjust a lock of his hair.  ❛  i promise i won’t go anywhere—  ❜   a pause, realization hitting her like a jolt of ice.   ❛  unless... you like waking up to warm breakfast?  ❜  cue a tentative smile, eyes burying themselves in his while still given the chance. the pull was more than just gravitational, his soul seemingly holding the final pieces to complete hers. sunhye could but wonder how the two had managed to stay apart for so long, his company filling her with a happiness earlier unbeknownst to her. never again, she thought, would she let him pass her by without hand grabbing its destined hold, pulling him back to her where he belonged.

                       THEIR DYNAMIC WAS ONE OF EVERGROWING MYSTERY;  one week they would despise each other with such passion — the next, nothing but cherished touches and honeyed declarations. it was a direct result of their clashing nature, how fire and ice never mixed well at all. this week, however, was one of the latter.   ❛  here — i got you flowers.  ❜  proud as the vixen offered the humble bouquet, consisting of black and burgundy dahlias.  ❛  i don’t know, they just reminded me of you.  ❜
