so youtubes ai age verification

For those unaware, youtube is rolling out an ai to watch its users habits to estimate your age. The only way to correct it if it estimates you are a minor is to upload a credit card or government ID

So, obviously this raises some concerns.

- some videos will be age restricted for those who arent under 18. Leading to less revenue for youtubers.

- youtube will keep this information, possibly for up to two years. (It wont let me link the video but look for Deep Humors video on this. They make tons of videos on this topic) and they have only specified they wont use it for advertising purposes.

- youtube or Google could be hacked and this data could be breached and leaked

- more surveillance as companies, governments, and organizations continue to push this and censorship. This is another push to just makeing things worse.

So, what can you do?

Join the boycott. Starting august 13th untill they revoke this decision, (so yes its temporary) find alternatives to youtube or any services that connect to it (yes, even if its on another app or site, it gives youtube traffic)

Tell youtube you disagree via the feedback page, letters, or comments under their main channel and youtubes creators channel.

Speak out publicly on your own socials

Encorage others to do this as well.

A weird one, change your profile picture to clippy. This isnt youtube specific but its at least saying something.

Please continue to support creators however. Engage with their other socials, buy their merch, stream indie shows on other platforms if avaliable, listen to their music on other platforms.

Also, alternatives arent hard to find or use. You could also simply use this to allow yourself to take an internet break.

We can do this if we unite.

Okay so bad news for everyone on YouTube right now

Starting the 13th, we will have an AI determine if we are children or not and if you are a child, than you are forced to send your ID, send a selfie or a credit card

This has the obvious cons of having your privacy being revoked from you and and in case there is a security breach, major identity thefts.

So what do we do in this scenario?

Well right now I have real idea as this is relativity new to me, but I do have two plans

Plan 1. Bug the shit out of them, send letters and send emails about how much of bad idea this is.

Include why the AI will mess up and target adults who watch cartoons, include privacy issues, censorship issues, anything you can think of that relates to this. I want you guys to bug the hell out of YouTube until they reverse this idea

Plan 2. Blackout.

Since the thing is coming out on the 13th.

The plan will be to completely avoid YouTube at all cost for that day, no watching, no sharing, no uploading, no nothing.

Download videos before things go down, watch Netflix. Whatever you do, don’t touch YouTube.

That’s all I can say right now, I also want you guys to let YouTubers know of this situation cause if it’s important for everyone on the website to talk about this immediately

Spread this stuff around, let people know of YouTube’s upcoming policy and how it’ll hurt everyone
