i would also venture out to say that cruelty is a core tenet of luxury. the whole point of luxury is to flex how much other people had to labor and quite literally suffer to bring oneself pleasure. it’s been obscured with time, but that’s the foundation. this is what makes the whole “cruelty free” & “sustainable” reframing of contemporary luxury so ridiculous.
we’re so far from what luxury once meant that any pursuit of it in today’s time is just laughable.

like one of today’s most sought after bags is made of vegan leather. the phrase “vegan leather” is an affront to the consumerist gods all on its own. it’s just so funny how materialistic everyone is while having less and less knowledge of what quality goods even are. truly astounding.
