Just lost a few braincells reading an nyt article about gen z "treat culture" and I can't even fathom that this is a thing. We're living in a dystopian hellscape where someone spending $5 a week on a cookie is considered a wasteful brat because they should have just gone for a nice free walk instead and saved the $250 a year that roughly equals four days' rent. That's why these ungrateful kids can't buy a house, naturally.
I am ALL for free treats, like hiking or reading in the park. But at some point you can't budget your way out of poverty, and you will literally go mad if you deny yourself basic pleasures that are literally all around you. They even lamented that little treats could snowball into doing something absolutely unforgivable like learning how to play the guitar or buying concert tickets.
At what point do we just start saying out loud that living an enjoyable and fulfilling life is now only acceptable at a 100k+ salary, and if you're one of the millions of people unlucky enough not to be in that category you should just eat dirt and be grateful?

Gotta say -
I'd rather be Woke than broke.
Tumblr media
MAGA racists will turn all of racist history on its head to make themselves the victim.
Maybe 'racist history hurts my feelings' and 'systemic and generational racism makes me not like my country' should make you want to end racism rather than attack its victims.

I love thinking about yarn amounts in terms of practical distance. The cardigan I'm knitting will use 1,200 yards of yarn in 10 skeins. That's the length of 12 football fields, or close to 3/4 of a mile of yarn laid straight. I also think it's funny how small it gets compressed down to when wound into a skein, so that all 10 can fit in a shopping bag. When I tell non-knitters all this it makes their heads explode

It’s work in progress Wednesday! I wove a gift for my toddler niece’s bedroom and since I have extra warp on, I’m weaving a spontaneous drawing of a horse I did on the warp in sharpie. I thought I’d post this little group of progress pictures as I finish up tapestry no. 2 and wait to take my cute little beehive off the loom.
Tumblr media
Day 1: got the bottom hem set up and bottom border woven
Tumblr media
Day 2: started the beehive and dots on the flower bush
Tumblr media
Day 3: more progress (I plan the sew the slit up between the flower bush and the beehive after the loom)
Tumblr media
Day 4: I called in sad and wove all day, so I finished the beehive, added some little bees around it, and started the top border. Tragically from this view it looks like a little pile of poop with flies around it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 5: I finished the beehive, advanced the warp to the back (see the upside down image of the finished weave for reference) and saw I still had some warp left to do a small tapestry, so I sketched a giant horse on the warp and am testing my rapid rendering skills (I can’t draw). Day 1 of horse.
Tumblr media
Day 6 of warp and 2 of horse: yep it could be a horse all right
Tumblr media
Day 7 of warp and 3 of horse: it is still a horse. I am trying to use as few colors as possible, and using multiple butterflies of the brown to create dimension and subtle shapes in the horse’s head.

KNITTIN' MITTENS!
Tumblr media
Absolutely tearing through these mittens, I finished the one in about 10 hours. They're supposed to be fully lined and I'm not sure if I have something suitable in my stash for it.

Low Effort Magick for Exhausted Witches 🌙
✨ Stir your coffee or tea clockwise to infuse it with positive energy.
✨ Hold a crystal for a few moments ~ feel its energy and let it ground or uplift you.
✨ Burn a candle, incense, or diffuse oils that match your intention for the day.
✨ Take a shower imagining the water washing away negative energy and refreshing your aura.
✨ Spend a moment in nature ~ even touching a plant or stepping outside can raise your vibration.
✨ Write or speak affirmations and name at least three things you’re grateful for.
Remember: magick doesn’t have to be elaborate ~ it’s about intention, even in the smallest acts.

Addendum -
Tumblr media
¤ Give an offering at the boundary for the Guardian upon entering.
¤ Give a token at the boundary upon exiting while requesting that the Guardian keep all souls safe & secure therein.
¤ Be watch for gifts of the senses: smells, sounds, feelings, tastes, tokens in green spaces & on patches.
¤ Be mindful of time. The dead experience time differently than we do - respect them.
Graveyard Etiquette
for witches, wanderers, and the quietly curious
Tumblr media
Speak softly. The dead do not sleep, but they listen.
Never walk directly over a grave. Circle around with respect.
Leave offerings only if they are natural: flowers, stones, a whispered prayer.
Ask for permission before taking anything — even a leaf, even a photograph.
Do not bring loud music, disrespect, or ego. You are a guest.
Coins on tombstones are for the dead, not souvenirs.
If you cry, do it freely. Spirits understand grief.
Do not perform magic on a grave unless explicitly invited — by the spirit or by blood.
Never disturb animal life. Cats and crows are guardians here.
When you leave, turn back once and thank the cemetery for having you.
Some places remember. Some places respond. Walk gently.
