Illustration for Kookie Magazine issue 11. ⁠⠀ 🍭⁠⠀ Kookie is an award-winning print magazine for pre-teen girls featuring powerful stories of inspirational girls and women. It's also ad free. ⁠⠀ 🍭⁠⠀ I was really thrilled be be commissioned to do this illustration to accompany the story Race to the Finish by Elle McNicoll. The main character is called Addie, and she finds out what winning really means. ⁠⠀ 🍭⁠⠀ This beautifully written story reminded me of my teen days, as training companion with my cousin, who was selected to represent my district in a running race. 📣Live Instagram Kitchen lithography. 📣⁠ When:⁠ Monday 25th May at 11am⁠ 📣⁠ Where:⁠ @ViolaWangStudio Instagram LIVE⁠ 📣⁠ What do you need:⁠ 1. Kitchen foil (aluminium foil)⁠ 2. Cola – for processing the plate (any brand and make is fine)⁠ 3. Chinagraph pencil (or any oil-based drawing material. ie, crayons)⁠ 4. Water – for washing the plate⁠ 5. Oil-based printmaking ink (oil paint also works)⁠ 6. Roller– to apply the ink⁠ 7. Sponge – to clean the plate⁠ 8. Spoon – for printing (a real press also works!)⁠ 9. Washi tape – to tape down the plate (though any tape will do)⁠ 10. Kitchen towel⁠ 11. Vegetable oil – for cleaning up ⁠ 12. 2 x plastic sheets – one for the foil plate, one for rolling up the ink (you can also use trays and dinner plates instead, as long as they have a flat surface )⁠ 13. Paper – to print your edition (any paper will do, even photocopy paper)⁠ 📣⁠ I hope you manage to find all the materials; don’t worry if you can’t. You are very welcome to come and say hi. It sets a good rhythm for the day – not only keeping you fit, but the natural boost of endorphin helps you to keep focus and be positive. ⁠Plus you can listen to a podcast when you run, or catch up with friends on the phone – perhaps that's pushing it a little far! Thank you everyone who came to the winter fair @IllustrationHQ over the weekend. This was the first time for me to run the stand as an individual artist at the fair, it was a daunting task at first but everyone were so supportive, I felt that I was being a member of a big family.
