Itto’s darting, avoidant eyes finally settle and calm as his pacing slows.

Breathe, Itto, breathe. Remember what that nice lady at the onsen told you.

He takes a deep breath before turning to the kid.

“Thanks little rabbit child! You seem quite experienced with these wings, but be careful you don’t let the wind carry you away. Those blasted invisible forces of angry nature have knocked me down more times than I can count.”

The oni puts his hands on his sides as he begins to laugh. Words from the heart go to the heart, and Itto could tell that in this kids eyes that she really meant it.

“Let’s get our wings ready and set sail! I’m itching to give those stupid winds a beating!”

What happens when the stones become the two birds?

Itto has always felt home with his two feet planted on the ground. It meant he could run when he wanted. It meant he could flip whenever he felt like it. And trust him, they are sick flips. But the air? It was much harder to do flips in the air and not land flat on your face.

Walking up towards the examination booth, the tall oni takes a step forward towards it, then a step backwards before pacing around, his feet making slight divots in the dirt.

"Hahah! This is gonna be a breeze! Get it? Hahah! There is totally nothing scary about hundreds of feet off the ground with no ability to cushion the fall if a stray raven were to pass through! Hahah! I'm the one and oni Arataki Itto! A little exam is nothing!"

Despite the rapid prattling, the oni still remains stuck in his circle of pacing, deepening the ground even more. So much so that onlookers could think he is creating a storm drain with his steps.

At the thrust of the spear, the Oni's hands immediately rise, palms open, poking out between the stones.

"Woah woah woah, there is no reason to be hostile! I'm just your friendly neighborhood Oni. I came here cause there was this kid that asked for some help, buttttt..."

Itto glances left, then glances right, frantically searching for some sort of proof.

"I don't see him anymore... I kind of fell from a cliff while calling out for him."

Itto inspects the icy glare of the frost colored woman. Her attitude was painfully reminiscent of a certain bird woman, a scary bird woman...

"Look lady! I promise I am no suspicious! Okay I know a suspicious person would say that, but I really am here just to find that kid."

Let's Talk Cryptids, Episode 1: the Squonk

"A YOKAI WHO CAN TALK???!?!?!? THAT'S EVEN SPOOKIER."

The oni scoots backwards until his back hits a tree. Hyperventilating from shock the oni stares at the spirit. After a bit, Itto calms down a little.

"Oh. You are just a guy. My mistake dude! You scared me with all that freaky mistic magic floating stuff you got going on there, but after all that you are pretty plain looking."

On the ground where he fell, Itto spots the chess set that has fallen. "Hmmmm. I have an idea! As punishment for scarin my pants off, mind playing a game with me? I don't really know the rules so I need someone to teach me and you seem... smart enough."

"Woahhohoho! Mighty & Might: Wipeout Warriors! I love the sound of that name! Way to go little guy, you are a genius. Mighty & Might: Wipeout Warriors, onwards!"

Despite saying onwards, the two still had to wait for the worker to put a band around each of their wrists, confirming that they were infact participants for the contest. Once all signed up, they were directed to the line to challenge the wipeout course.

There were jumps and hurdles, ropes you have to crawl under, but most importantly and famously, the big red balls suspended over water, the folly of many.

"Those. Those I shall overcome! Look at all those contestants fall at those rubber balls! I hope they can support my might... My frame is quite large..."

The Scions of the Canopy are known for their brilliant feats of athleticism and adventure. For a limited time, they’re welcoming visitors to take a spin through some of their most rigorous training courses. Bungee jumping off the cliffside, scaling mountains without equipment, and “wipeout courses,” get the blood pumping and can really test even the most seasoned of adventurers.

“Wh- huh? Wait you have heard of me? I mean, of course! Many know the name wide and far, it’s on its way to becoming a household name! For sure! If we need anyone else, I’ll come searching for you first!”

Itto stretches his arms above his head and lets out a satisfied exhale. 

“This is going to be perfect! You are small but mighty, and I’m mighty but mighty! Come’on, lets go get signed up! I’m raring to go.”

Itto leads the way through the crowd, plowing a space behind him for Venti to follow. After nearly running over a few people and profusely apologizing, Itto contains his excitement and begins to walk a bit slower as he nears the sign up. Itto walks up and takes the pen, but before marking his and Venti’s name down, he turns to Venti.

“Uhh how is your handwriting? I’m worried that they won’t understand my avant guard font. Some say it looks like bull scratch, no offense Ushi.”

A small angry moo emits from slightly behind Venti as a miniature bull voices his discontent with his owner.

“I’m sorry dude! It’s the truth, we seriously need to get you private lessons with a tutor or something, it’s becoming a problem. Where was I? Oh yeah! Sign ups. Would you mind doing it? Oh and for team name, how about something like ‘David and Goliath, the bestest of friends take on the world of wipeout’?”

As the fight drags on, exchanging blow for blow, the team constantly jumps in and out, swapping places. After Itto's turn, he backs off and starts to lean on his sword out of the sight of others, heaving.

How long have we been fighting...? I am starting to get tired... Can I just leave the rest to them? No. THIS is when I need to go harder. THIS is when I need to pull myself together. Come on man! You are the numero uno. Now prove it.

Itto kicks up his blade and wields it once more. Running at the red haired menace, the oni swings wildly, tiredly, but his reckless swings still find their marks.

Once again, the group descends the spiral staircase, one step at a time. Itto looks confused by a new trinket he found on the side of the stairs.

How is this cup going to help me in a fight...?

Soon, the stairs level off and the abyss floor stretches out. There, a tall man with flowing red hair stands with a presence that commands attention. A shiver is sent down the oni's spine as he grins.

The red haired man raises his spear, summoning two floating constructs, a sharp jagged shield, as well as a detailed shield.

"This guy is our next opponent? He looks strong! Hahahaha! Oh boy this really gets my oni blood pumping!"

The oni strikes his chest, and from it, the room starts to shake steadily, rhythmically, like a heartbeat. The loud drum reverberates throughout the space, shaking each member to their core. As the drum beats, Itto's form begins to shift, his oni features become more accentuated.

Sparks and chunks of metal are sent flying and scattering across the abyss floor. The enemies are whirring slower and slower, their movements are becoming sluggish... but never the less deadly. One must be careful to not get hit by stray claws... but Itto is not just anyone, he is the one.

As the group wanders down the spiral stairs, Itto is walking in front of the group, stretching as he goes.

"Ahhh, that fight was good! We really gave them a real beat down! I wonder if there will be more stronger enemies at the bottom! After that fight, I feel like I have grown stronger! Maybe its because I'm just an awesome oni... I can't explain this new hat or sword though, those just kind of materialized."

As they reach the bottom and are faced with their new enemies, Itto gets primed and ready. Soon, a familiar shield forms around him.

"Back at it again huh blondie! Great going! If you are going to do the same thing, so will I!"

With a running start, the oni again hurls his bull at the clump of enemies, hitting them all.

"Boom! Just another strike for Arataki 'The Bowling Champion' Itto! Bam! Kachow!"

After ducking and dodging through the meks to retrieve his fallen sword, Itto skids to a stop and turns to face his foes.

"Hahaha! Now that I have gotten my sword back... you are all cooked!"

Ushi jumps up into his arms as he drops his sword, "You did great too little guy! You were the king of the battlefield!"

Itto turns to the rest of the group and waves.

"Way to absolutely rock you guys! We did it! I really hope no more of those little meks guys show up to fight us here.... wait, where are we?"

Jaw. Dropped. Itto has not seen anything cooler than this random stranger suddenly sprouting a wing and horns, just like his own. It was like he was a super evil super hero and the oni's eyes were shinning.

"Woah!!!! You can just do that?? I have never hear of an oni having wings before! We could be like, relatives or something!"

After staring at his friend for a moment, he shakes his head, and locks back in. Dodging one of the enemies attacks, and striking back, only to be hit by the same bomb's after effect.

After so generously trailblazing a path through the enemies, Itto looks back at his amazing group of friends.

Wow these guys are really awesome!

"Wait? Your last name is Apocalypse??!?! THAT'S SO COOL... is that like, actually your last name or do you just want people to call you tha-"

Before Itto can finish his question, he gets charged behind by a mek, knocking him to the ground. Otto's shield takes some of the impact, but the rest of it hits Itto.

Itto jumps to his feet, dusting himself off, and starts walking towards the enemy, rolling his shoulders.
