What if the book is actually the bungo stray dogs novel and as we know all bsd characters are based off of IRL writers so Asagiri could very much exist in their universe. It could be that Asagiri is an ability user who can write novels and his novels become an alternate universe. That would also makes sense as to why BEAST Dazai can know his other alternate universe self as the book is an ability. It could also be related to Dazai's lack of feeling human. He knows he's just a character in a novel and knows his destiny is already made so he struggles to find worth in living.

I love dragons man I just love dragons FUCK I love dragons they make me so happy. They have adorable and beautiful and scary faces and wings and feets sometimes and tails. Sometimes they have beards. They like crystals and shiny things (me too!). They symbolize power and obstacles and nature and the universe. My heart learned what it was beating for when it first imagined the beating wings of dragons in flight.
