the iconic turning and looking back moment in tmwwbk gets used for orpheus and eurydice parallels pretty often, but really, i think lot’s wife is a much better fit. dean isn’t losing cas in the act of looking back, he’s already lost cas. but he can’t stop caring, so he looks back and lingers when he should be fleeing. when lot’s wife turns, it’s about watching what you love burn because you can’t stand not to see it one last time, you can’t walk away, immobilized by grief. and that’s dean every goddamn time.

when orpheus turns, on the other hand, it’s about losing what you love because you love it too much to pretend you don’t, even if acknowledging it means you lose each other. it’s the brief, blinding moment of joy of love seen and recognized, immediately torn away leaving only silence and absence behind. when cas confesses his love in despair? that’s orpheus turning.

the thing about destiel to me is that i think dean is well aware of how he feels. but because his life is one disaster after another he’s always telling himself “this isn’t the right moment i’ll wait until things cool down.” but then every time they defeat the Bad Guy or whatever and they finally have time to themselves, at least for a little while, cas goes alright well i am no longer a useful tool and you don’t need me anymore so i will stop bothering you and leave. which dean takes as a brush off/cas does not feel the same way. and this continues on and on and on for the entire time they know each other, and then. well. hmm.

while benny also calls cas THE angel in this scene, i think it's because cas calls him THE vampire

it's a two-way thing where they both refuse to call the other by name, only be species. benny is undoubtedly VERY aware that the angel is really dean's angel - case in point with this scene where benny calls cas dean's "buddy," putting a special emphasis on the way he says "buddy"

pretty sure the reason for that goes back to this scene in 8x02 and benny realising that they might be a bit more than buddies but are probably in denial
