im actually very hopeful about transhumanism and machine intelligence vastly improving the standard of living for everyone in the future but im also very conscious of the natural resources needed to sustain such a high level of technological intervention so i try really hard to minimize my own waste of hydrocarbons, rare earth metals etc. and yes i do remember that the last time i tried to conserve vital lithium salts by going off my meds i did blow up my marriage, gamble away my life savings, move to Namibia and attempt to launch an onlyfans career by filming myself stomping exotic fauna to death while wearing fetishy leather boots. but let's be clear: this technology could save literal billions of lives and vastly improve trillions more across the indefinite future of the human race. if we situate all of this in a utilitarian ethics, i could singlehandedly drive the elephant shrew to extinction and i would still, objectively, be doing the right thing.
