"Maybe that was the trouble; maybe she just wasn't crazed enough. True derangement stopped at no boundaries. Mad enough to wish for what she was not mad enough to grasp--now there was a singularly useless lunacy." --Ista in Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold

“No, no, it’s not books at all you’re looking for! Take it where you can find it, in old phonograph records, old motion pictures, and in old friends; look for it in nature and look for it in yourself. Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what the books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together in one garment for us.”
- Ray Bradbury, Farenheit 451

... rose petals ....
Rome’s spectacular tradition of red rose petals fluttering through the oculus of the Pantheon is held each year on the feast of Pentecost.
The unique ceremony occurs at around midday when fire-fighters drop tens of thousands of rose petals 43 metres into the interior of the Pantheon, symbolising the Holy Spirit’s descent to Earth.
The annual spectacle will take place after the 10:30 mass with a performance by the Basilica Choir and the Band of the Fire Brigade of Rome.
