i am the only city boy mutual in the world, and that's okay i guess. it's what i get for liking bands (kinda) similar to 10cc + elo. here's a few tracks that might pique your interest

the ending of "cigarettes" features amazing guitar work by mike slamer & steve broughton + key work by max thomas. the entire song is good as hell

this was their biggest hit. you can hear the influences of elo & queen. vocals features the newest member of the band: drummer roy ward who would continue to lead vocals w lol mason, especially after bassist chris dunn & steve leave in 1979

this track comes from their last album. max, lol, roy, and mike were the only og members. this one stands out to me bc it's a good example of a catchy chorus, which they're known for. another track sung by roy ward

before roy was in the band, this is their debut album. i think this track best captures their lyrical genius. many of their tracks are "quirky and funny," but some just have amazing lines that come out of nowhere. really, lol & steve knew what they were doing!! (i think lol & steve wrote this one. if not, max & mike might have helped)

track sung by lol! it's catchy, and the lyrics are funny but also just so tongue-in-cheek. "i know you like your victims sweet & sour." i believe this was also a minor hit. i might be wrong, but anyway, good stuff!!

a nice little disco-inspired track. the lyrics are hilarious about a man who ate his car & other inanimate objects! "golden gate on a dinner date (heart burn!)" it's catchy, funny, and really shows that these guys know how to make fun music, but also they have extreme talent to execute it right

another song sung by lol. i believe this was a hit, too. it's a love-song ballad about never finding the right words because someone leaves you, well, speechless. this track comes from the first album w/o chris & steve. many fans don't like it, but i like it a lot. although the song is a little softer, it sends goosebumps down my arms, and im not a huge fan of corny ballads

lastly, the very song that got me into city boy. it's jam-packed with hard rock guitars and killer vocals, especially in the chorus, and a dramatic atmosphere soaked in despair about the end of the world! the entire album has a darker vibe compared to their earlier albums. on top of that, the song comes from the last album to feature chris & steve. nevertheless, it's extremely catchy & the lyrics are top tier. the orchestra part ramps up the climax by the end of the song, and oh my god...if this song doesn't make you a fan, i don't know what will. the guitar solo at the end is literally perfect and captures the rush and bustle of what you'd expect from the end of the world. all and all, i should see more praise for them. i think a lot of you would be interested in them. got into them bc they were in a "10cc related mix" spotify gave me

i like how the prog fandom has evolved over the last few decades. people think that there is this air of "erm ACKSHUALLY ☝️🤓" around the genre, and while that is partially true, the actual fandom has progressed into rpf heaven and yaoi enjoyers. people will judge you more on what's your fav ship rather than whether you listened to gentle giant or not
