I want everyone to know that there are queers in the hollers of Appalachia, in the bayous and marshland of the Deep South, in Southwestern deserts, through the Ozark mountains and up to the Rockies. There are queers in the Great Plains, there are queers in rural America, in trailer parks of the Osage foothills. In the places you least expect us to live, we are here, carving out community and fighting for liberation with pride despite it all. Stop forgetting about us. Stop overlooking our experiences and our impact just because we don’t live in a Big Gay City. And for the love of God, stop looking at us with pity.

sometimes i wonder if ennis has never gone back to brokeback mountain after jack’s death and can only look at the postcard of it or if ennis goes back to the mountain every month like he did with jack and closes his eyes and tries to imagine that jack is by his side, playing the shitty harmonica in the dim glow of the campfire like they did when it was just jack and ennis and brokeback mountain against the entire world
#bawling my eyes out#i have so many thoughts abiut this#ennis would probably not go for a bit. months at rhe least but maybe even a few years before he feels brave enough to go back to Brokeback#he eventually works up the courage and goes and sits there and cries a bit but tires to imagine jack is with him#he wanders around all the spots theyd frequent together#and then after that it became a pretty regular thibg for him methinks#was probably therapeutic#bbm

You ever get the feeling… I don’t know,… when you’re in town and… someone looks at you… suspicious, like he knows? And then you go out on the pavement and everyone’s looking at you like they all know too?

The stale coffee is boiling up but he catches it before it goes over the side, pours it into a stained cup and blows on the black liquid, lets a panel of the dream slide forward. If he does not force his attention on it, it might stoke the day, rewarm that old, cold time on the mountain when they owned the world and nothing seemed wrong. The wind strikes the trailer like a load of dirt coming off a dump truck, eases, dies, leaves a temporary silence.

Tell you what, we coulda had a good life together! Fuckin’ real good life. Had us a place of our own. but you didn’t want it, Ennis! So what we got now is brokeback mountain! Everything’s built on that! That’s all we got, boy, fuckin’ all. So I hope you know that, even if you don’t never know the rest.
