A list of nature/wildlife/animal webcams
joreLook we could be pretty restricted from getting out and interacting with wildlife and nature. So here’s a number of webcams from all over the place which will let you watch wildlife/animals - many of them have sound so just having them on in the background gives a soothing background noise. And we all need nice things right now.
BTW, this list is nowhere near exhaustive
Cornell Lab Webcams
They have so many!  And there’s a mix of bird feeder ones where you are seeing many kinds of birds (and other things!)  interacting on bird feeders and cams aimed at nests of individuals - which means it’s good webcam season in the northern hemisphere as nesting is underway.  But my absolute favourites are the Panama bird feeder (tropical birds squabbling over fruit), the Albatrosses (currently have a chick) and the Ontario bird feeder (hey they’ve got snow).
Scottish Wildlife Trust Osprey cam Expect the Ospreys back any time now.....
Shetland cliffcams... a wee bit early, but the Shetland isles are a group of islands off the north coast of mainland UK with marvellous sea cliffs and tens of thousands of wildlife. Puffins are the main attractions. For now though the only webcam is letting you look out over the cliffs
Dorset barn owls - want to see Barn owls gently snoozing in a box? this is your cam. But even as I wrote this post there were woodpeckers drumming and chiffchaffs calling and it was lovely.
African safari cams - 6 cameras around waterbodies in Africa (helpfully, it doesn’t provide any further information on where). But even just looking around, them while preparing this post one had an elephant family and there were various birds around
Nature Conservancy Australia reefcam Reefcams seem to be hard to find. This is one. It wasn’t really working.
This site has consolidated a lot too - Explore.org And a number of them show highlights at times when the webcams aren’t operable. but there are hummingbirds and more African cams (including the Africam ones above) and a bunch of ocean ones and bears and gorillas... and just go look ok?
Zoos etc
It’s not all about wildlife. Check out zoos and aquariums for their own streams - many are doing more right now. Two I use are Monterey Bay Aquarium which has both webcams of wildlife and also of their own exhibits and Edinburgh Zoo for its penguins and pandas. The Penguins are preparing to breed. Much pebble stealing going on.

A list of hockey stats sites that I use - v2 July 2018
I produced a list previously but things change in the stats world, so here’s a small update. The big change is a flurry of new player evaluation sites; I’ve tried to explain the difference. I’ve also removed some sites that are no longer extant.
I don’t use all of these all the time - but I do use most of them at some time and there’s a couple I tagged on here thinking I should take the time to explore them more myself.
One thing to note; a lot of the sites are run by guys with a very strong twitter presence. They’ll often pick out cool or interesting things by twitter so they can be a good follow, without having to read all the stats stuff.
And most of these resources are free to look at/use. But the people behind them need to eat; some of them have Patreons which help keep this stuff available to us (too many sites have gone dark as their creators went on to get jobs with NHL teams). If you can, and you want to, please help!
Data
Corsica - the current king of them all, this is the source of so much scraped data and then Manny does really interesting things with it too (he has incorporated Dom Luszczyszyn’s Game Score as well). Good game reports, good modelling, about the only source of pair/line combination data, game scores, xG. Can be quite buggy.
Natural Stat Trick Generally, if you’re not using Corsica, you’re using Naturalstattrick. Really easy to down load from (if I’m doing my own analysis, I usually take it from here). Use Scoring chance and High Danger scoring chance rather than xG so is someone is talking HDSC they’re taking it from here. Excellent shot heatmaps during games. Great for doing analyses of when this player played with that player what happened?
NHL - Sometimes, although their stats are pretty basic, they’re what you need. Want to know what a team’s PK% is? find it here. They’re annoying to get to, but once they’re they’re simple enough.
Microstats - Cory Sznajder does a lot of work looking at what’s termed microstats; plays within a game. Want to know who much Sid has passed from low to high? That’s a microstat. And this is the best source (or check out the player evalutation charts later on)
Hockey reference - It’s not one I use a lot, but it gets referenced a fair amount. Good for longer term data and records.
Left wing lock - Want to know who is playing on what line? Great for fic or fantasy hockey!
Visualisations
If you like pictures rather than number then these may be better for you. A couple of wizards use data from above, or develop their own and draw pictures to help us understand what is going on in hockey.
Hockeyviz - Micah McCurdy is great. Love love love this one. He’s my go to for a visualisation of how a particular game has gone; good team and player visualisations too. So if you don’t like numbers, he’ll often produce something a bit more visually comprehensive. Watch out for what he names his quadrants too. As a Penguins fan ‘We may win but you may die’ was a very appropriate quadrant for them for much of the year.
Sean Tierney - Sean’s charts are excellent - derived generally from corsica, you want a time series of how PDO has varied for your team this year? Sean’s your man. Site isn’t updated automatically, but is usually done every few days in season and he’s a good twitter follow (if only for his bemused ramblings about how the Pens kept trying to escape his axes this year).
Player Evaluations
Big increase in these recently, so I spent some time tracking more down. These allow you to get a sense of how a player plays relatively quickly.
More general or aggregated ones:
https://public.tableau.com/profile/bill.comeau#!/vizhome/SkaterComparisonToolv2/Dashboard1 - good advanced stats, very detailed.
https://public.tableau.com/profile/andi.duroux#!/vizhome/PlayerEvaluationTool/PlayerEvaluationTool - easier to understand, good aggregations
Microstats:
https://public.tableau.com/profile/christopher.turtoro#!/vizhome/PlayerPassingProfile/PlayerPassingProfile - what kind of passer is the forward
https://public.tableau.com/profile/christopher.turtoro#!/vizhome/2-yearA3ZPlayerComps/ComparisonDashboard – comparison tool for micro-stats. If you want a laugh, check out Conor Sheary vs Alex Ovechkin... and then remember this is micro-stats and Sheary will look better than Ovechkin as Sheary is a better playmaker and Ovechkin scores.
Methods and papers
Metahockey - this is like the Hockey stats repository of knowledge. A couple of folks realised that knowledge was getting lost because it was all piecemeal all over the place so put this together. If you want to find out about a particular thing, it’s likely in here. Also has a way more comprehensive list of sites than I have here.
Hockey-graphs - so much original work has come out of this site it kind of needs to be mentioned. Much of the passing project stuff results come out on here.
Cap!
We’re coming into Cap season… so have your cap sites to hand:
CapFriendly My go to.
NHL Numbers - cap, salaries and some stats too! Always good to have a back-up cap tool as the Cap guys get snatched up by the teams...
Predictions
A lot of sites combine their data with predictions - Moneypuck is all about predictions only
Drafts
If you're desperate to know how your team was built, this is fun https://public.tableau.com/profile/andi.duroux#!/vizhome/DevelopmentTrack/March2018

Did you think Conor Sheary was playing well?
Well he is. And actually the team is generally (although this is all playoff games). He needs to lose that monkey on his back though. He’s shooting at 2% through the playoffs...  graphic by @ChartingHockey

A list of the hockey stats sites I use
This will likely be a non-exhaustive list, as I’m pretty sure I don’t know them all - and feel free to suggest more - but this is the list of sites I use to find out stats and data and visualisations when I’m trying to look at data from a game.
Data
http://corsica.hockey/
Kind of the grand-daddy of them all. It’s a little buggy at times (just reload!), but this is the best source of raw data out there - game, player, team, line, pairing... it has them all. Really good for a source of xG per game, also game scores per player per game.
http://naturalstattrick.com/
The other big source for raw data. Has some really nice plots/figures (shot heat charts are sweet). if someone is quote high danger chances or scoring chances they’re generally using naturalstattrick.
There are a few oddities with those sites - sometimes the same stats for the same game don’t add up between the two sites and I don’t know enough to know why. I do have a preference as to which I think is more reliable, but it’s a guess. Just be careful with mixing and matching stats from both sites.
http://www.nhl.com/stats/ yep, sometimes! they do have a fairly good set of options so if I want to know how many SHG the Pens scored in the 2012/13 season, i’ll usually go here. Nothing fancy or advanced, but sometimes I just want to know what a teams PK% is running at.
https://theenergyline.wordpress.com/ Corey Sznajder’s site so lots of micro stats available.
Two I use a bit less:
http://hockeystats.ca/ - good game data, interesting plots but it’s all very much in the moment, no data store.
https://www.hockey-reference.com/ - I see quite a few folks reference this, but not really worked my way through it. Does have good stats for individual players though.
https://leftwinglock.com/index.php  - Listing it here because it doesn’t fit anywhere else - how to find out who is playing with whom and on which line relatively painlessly
Visualisations
http://hockeyviz.com/ - love love love this one. He’s my go to for a visualisation of how a particular game has gone; good team and player visualisations too. So if you don’t like numbers, he’ll often produce something a bit more visually comprehensive. Watch out for what he names his quadrants too. Player Evaluations
https://public.tableau.com/profile/andi.duroux#!/vizhome/PlayerEvaluationTool/PlayerEvaluationTool currently seems to be the most comprehensive. Not sure how long a sample size is used.
http://ownthepuck.blogspot.co.uk/ - been around for a while now. But doesn’t have any of the current years’ data
Methods and papers
http://metahockey.com/ - this is like the Hockey stats repository of knowledge.
