Ask Pegasus for linguistic trivia.
Tumblr media
If I asked him directly I'd get told "Do I look like a clown?" His trivia depends on how you classify languages (and dialects). But if they were from Earth, they all would probably belong to 1 language family. Their origins are relatively easy to trace back to a single common ancestor.

When you drew Pegasus making a cat hiss + seagull scream + bullhorn sound, does that mean like a cat and a seagull screaming into a bullhorn, or like those two combined with that weird whine/doot feedback sound bullhorns can make? this is important for my auditory bastard immersion
Natural cat/seagull but much louder. :') He's not a vocal/chatty animal, but his few vocalizations can be heard from a great distance in his natural environments (coasts, sea, ocean, cliffs). The cat-like hissing and yowling are for close-range, but he'll lean on that horn real hard if we are talking about getting jumpscared Closest thing to a feedback sound might be if he screamed in an enclosed space that reverberates (just typical echo). Might give himself hearing damage with that though

Warm-ups and wind-downs with the horsie (I haven't LOOKED AT humans in six months, let alone draw any) Pegasus doesn't neigh and doesn't growl, he honks and hisses. u_u" Occasional yowling/screaming; generic terse English, to tell people to fuck off (unlike Griffin, he doesn't eat people, even when offered 🙃 He will maul people at the drop of a hat tho)

Anotherrrr WIP. A while ago I added Pegasus's teeth in with a placeholder tongue, both sculpted in Blender. Also made a quick animation test, started working on the façade of the building (and on partitioning it into sections that can be hidden easier), and the horse temporarily got very fluffy

You get more heavily unfinished WIPs that I have to pause working on Holly happens to be my first full-body human model! I modeled Pegasus's head once but we will not talk about that. I think I will try again and then we'll talk. The fire of my enthusiasm to try again can be compared to a thousand burning suns. I have been designing creature heads in 3D & 2D simultaneously and I think I should be doing the same with people. It's so much faster and clearer. You can almost immediately see if the features you had in mind will work for you or not. And you get to roast your own anatomical knowledge in real time with no end in sight

EMOOSE I included my corrections separately. I don't note my thoughts down when I do these, but I did this time because some people seem interested. P.S.1: When I decide how to position the corrections, I consider things like whether I started sketching at and/or focused mainly on e.g. the bust or some other part. Frequently, in the case of starting with the bust, the backside ends up being the less precise afterthought. Ideally I'd start with the whole silhouette of the figure so there's no room for error in the details, but hey. Shit happens. P.S.2: These 1-3 minute things are called croquis. I like them for being high risk, high reward - you could either end up feeling like "I should never pick up a pencil again" or "wow I nailed it on the first try" with nothing in-between.

hey what was that about eating people?
Oh lol. Griffin's natural diet doesn't include humans (too small to be worth it), but he does eat people, *when offered,* and only in his own form. Let's say, after a battle, you have a lot of dead bodies you don't know what to do with, but there's a t-rex sized polite carnivore right there that likes food. A match made in heaven, some would say.

I almost didn't post this anywhere - for one, I figured social media compression would obliterate it. But let's go anyway My first sketch of Griffin had such a specific expression that I could not reproduce again - or rather, not when I tried to immediately pair it with another key expression. It was either one or the other. This is the first attempt that I feel like with a little polish it would finally match what I had in mind. His range is alien to me, and at the same time, he reminds me of my grandfather who I unfortunately seem to have inherited my sense of humor from. The issue is like... let's say I inherited a sword, but, I'm a featherweight and it's a zweihänder

WIP-posting for my sanity I realized recently that I can import my old SketchUp model into Blender (I don't have SketchUp). Even more recently I realized that this means that I am now free to sculpt the shit out of it 🔹 Some fun things I did with it in Blender so far: Rigged the lights and tied the controls to a light-switch model. Rigged the windows. Yelled at the screen a lot. Lost all sense of time. Finally made the central staircase in the library a bit nicer. Most recently I made progress on the façade (touching it is intimidating; past-me left no notes so I have to mind-read smh) 🔹 Who Is She: The central building of Kellandia's most prestigious academy of vocational arcane education. It moonlights as the administrative center of the region as well, not entirely with the blessing of the government. They leverage the fact that 1, the academy is the country's primary source of military mages, 2, they have an amicable relationship with the locals, and 3, the region is very remote and scarcely populated, mostly by shepherds. If the shepherds didn't like e.g. the new taxes, they could say "nah" and the nerd castle would have their back. If the nerds were cut off from the rest of the world, the shepherds would have their back. They don't seek to detach from Kellandia because there is no real animosity between them, and they have common interests and enemies. The avalanche-happy climate is not suited for tall glass windows and mansard roofs; as such, these architectural choices and their pristine conditions are a flex and an advertisement of the kinds of things being taught there. Metalworking, botany, medicine, engineering, tailoring... You could study arcane plumbing here. Or even regular plumbing. If you wanted to. For whatever reason.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree just launched 🎉 I've been working on the game for the past few years as a part of Primal Game Studio! It was a fascinating, positive experience for me; the most complex game I've ever contributed to; and I learned a lot. I'm thankful that I got to work on it. I'm going to play it too, obviously x) It's on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 at the moment!

Pegasus about to vaporize Griffin (2018)
Pegasus is the only spirit who is more dangerous in his human form than in his own. Spirits can't physically die, so he does not hold back when Griffin pisses him off.
Pegasus could basically kill anything in 1 hit, which is unprecedented, and doesn't really check out either. Very few spirits can do things no other spirit can explain or replicate; this happens when one gains some specific insight into reality's nature. Most spirits don't develop any ability like this, largely because most of them are not nearly as obsessed with anything.

UPDATE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A work in progress... I finally got around to updating Phoenix's visual design. The 2011 version I included is pretty dated. I still like how its tail burns my eyes to dust if I look at it for more than 5 seconds though. I want to keep that but also expand her eyeburning repertoire and maybe even give her 1 more human form design since she IS supposed to have a ton. I would include native form variants like... piebald and stuff; even for Griffin I thought a melanistic or golden form would be cute, but man is it a lot of work and not top priority either. Suffice it to say, they have more range than what I depict. We'll see how much energy I'll have - I'm on the fence about drawing her fave human form for the sheet because I have recent examples of it. I've been putting off updating her self-roasting turkey form because... well look at it Anyway, now I can say "I have a tentacle cock monster mural on my acid trip chicken's ref sheet"
